he looks up at you. “i was gonna start wrapping presents,” he says. “i just got the baby down. are the twins asleep?”

you listen for any sound from your children’s bedrooms and hear nothing but the familiar quiet settling of your old house, the faint music from the living room, the creak of the stairs when danny shifts his weight.

“i think we’re good,” you say quietly.

he smiles up at you. “then get down here. we gotta get started on the mr. and mrs. wagner wrapping extravaganza.”

“i have some stuff hidden in our room,” you say.

he starts to come back upstairs. “i’ll help you grab it.”

“thank you,” you say. “hey, you want a christmas surprise right now?”

“sure,” he says.

you blow him a kiss, and he chuckles when he catches it.

“my favorite!” he says. “how did you know?”

“just lucky, i guess,” you say.

you smile and still feel butterflies when he smiles back, even after all these years.

“i sure am, mrs. wagner,” he says tenderly. “i love you, you know.”

you give him a beaming, bashful grin. “yeah, i know. i love you too.”

Hooookay. I was gonna make a post about it anyway, so I might as well just answer it here.

First of all, he says it so gently and sweetly, I love how it sounds coming from Tommy. From an in-universe perspective I find it interesting though. I'd suspect after the cruiseship they were all hanging out and then took the chopper back together, so Tommy most definitely heard people referring to Buck as... well, Buck.

We know he's the one who called up Tommy to give him a tour and he had to tell him who he was, so I guess we can guess that he introduced himself with his full name and his nickname, as he usually does and Tommy just didn't want to assume familiarity — which is totally fair and he has no idea about the implications and backstory that comes with the name, after all most people don't have worldshattering abandonment issues attached to their given names.

Out of universe, however. Hate to burst the bubble of new beginnings and rebuilding Buck from the Evan of it all (though I'm sure the writers did calculate that into the equation as well and it worked out great but), most of Buck's love interests have called him Evan.

Abby only when she fullnamed him I think, but Ali almost exclusively and even Taylor, who usually referred to him as Buck, called him Evan, more than once if I remember correctly (I don't even think we heard Natalia call him anything, she was so short-lived lmao).

Anyways, for me, it feels like this kind of line of separation between constant main characters and characters who can be gone and done from one episode to the next, if that's what the storylines are calling for and since we know Tommy won't be around that long (though I hope he'll pop back up later on again) it works into the favour of that.
