So I’m doing another big piece for some TMA stuff because I finished it now and I am ssaaadddd… anyways I’m doing another Tim centric piece, and I ended up stuck with a pose that didn’t fit in with the rest!

So here it is, Tim being miserable on his unauthorized vacation to Malaysia, as referenced in MAG 89! I found it quite interesting the idea that the personnel couldn’t leave without physical consequences!

Plus there’s something inherently funny in imagining Tim on vacation, kayaking or something, trying desperately to enjoy himself to a point of stubbornness, while feeling awful because the cosmic horrors who rule the universe won’t let him quit his desk job

Oh yeah I’m also a strong advocate for the fact that everyone in tma are trans btw, all of them, every single one

god this statement...honestly i didn't know how they were gonna make a gym spooky but man i think they pulled it off...

diversity win!! the guy who owns the gym likes men but you only know that cause his partner had a heart attack maybe from steroids!!

they really just said what if you trained at a gym alone and then you weren't...it was actually horrific many limbed creatures made from an unholy combination of human parts...oh and that the one other person you trained with has probably become one of those body parts

the whole stuff about the body dysmorphia did get to me though like yeah i definitely get the whole let's destroy ourselves to get the body we want vibes

Yeah, good move Elias. No need to comment on the fact that Tim started mysteriously dying as soon as he started skipping work, that's not something that a normal person/employer would think is unusual.

There's nothing powerfully evil about the Institute!! It's just old!! The fact that no one can quit or escape is just because the building is weird!! That makes perfect sense. I am a normal boss and a normal man. :)

mag 90 - body builder

i like this episode because it really shows how it's possible to push the boundries of a simple concept. i don't think most writers would have developed the flesh into anything more than gore and body horror, which i personally find really boring. but that is not what happens. instead the flesh is stretched into themes of self-image, presentation to the world, and others views of you, and whilst stuff about body dysmorhphia does make me feel somewhat uncomfortable (but at least not in a way that makes this statement really hit home) this is very well written

to me, the flesh monsters are pretty irrelevant. they are there to present some type of climax of the episode, but i really find that the build-up and this guy's mental state is what is really meant to target us. people could disagree on that though

once again, the entities target those who already have an affinity for them. i mean, the ad literally says 'your perfect body is here' - that is not meant to aim at the average person who just wants to work out once or twice a week for health reasons. everything about it is designed to spur on someone already falling into this pit

this was an episode i always remembered really well, and i'm not even sure why. most episodes i can recall in vague details, but i remembered name, episode number, plot, etc. of this one going in. great episode, even if it makes me very uncomfortable

Hi, dropping in to add to the favourite TMA episodes thing! I really liked 108 and 122 - they’re very similar so I’m lumping them together, but they both have the deeply disturbing premise of “what if you were the only real person left in your life?” They felt really haunting and 122 was one of the few that genuinely disturbed me. 90 was also one of my favourites, mainly because I found it weirdly relatable (dysmorphia gym mirror scene!) and also because this is one of the ones where I’m certain I’d have made a laughably easy meal for the Entity involved. The Flesh would not have to move a muscle to get me tbh…

oh and of course: Mag 74: Statement of Lydia Halligan, regarding her insomnia <3

HELLO <3 ooooh i tend to skip 108, actually, because i find the statement sort of dull, but i LOVE 122!! and i think one of the reasons that both of these stranger statements work so well is exactly what you pointed out. it's the mental anguish. it's not like a living doll or a clown with sharp teeth, it's the terror of being utterly alone in a way that you realize... slowly. and you can't really tell if something is happening and evolving around you, or if you're just seeing more clearly by the day. TERRIFYING.

i would argue also that the flesh would probably joyfully move MANY muscles to get you :) too many...

this is very cool to hear tysm for sharing! 108 and 90 aren't two of my favs so it's v interesting to me to hear about them from a different perspective. i think 90 probably isn't a fav of mine because i just find it so... sweet? it's not horror it's just really endearing to me. oh to be able to mold your own flesh to your liking <3

Graham Folger... oh, that guy would never swear. I am sure of this. And I feel like Sebastian Adekoya wouldn't much either... or he would with Jared, perhaps. Also hear me out I made Not!Jared/End!Seb and Boneturner!Graham/Oliver-but-nothing-bad-happened-to-him would anyone read anything about it? Also Not!Jared is a gingerhead, do whatever you want with this information.

Ross Davenport (MAG90) may or may not hate having over people at gym just blasting music on a speaker - like just buy headphones and stop bothering me with whatever you listen to (not sure what he would listen to but I just like giving every character I like liking about the same things as me which isn't too bad given how large my taste can get. I feel like he would listen to Tub Ring.)

Hezekiah Wakely would love weighted blanket+noise canceling headphones combinaison, I would lowkey resurect him just to give him that.

Tyler, the guy from MAG177 in the processing line, I give him a 70% chance of also being terrified by the Eye but not as much as being just processed throught the lines, cut up only for them to use nothing, then restart.

Toby Carlisle, really, that guy just needs help please give him therapy instead of insulting him in your statement Christof you asshole (I feel way too much sympathy for this guy even if he stared ominously at his neighbor while smoking on the balcony and hammered meat everywhere)

But this isn’t about Jon lol I just thought that quote was raw as hell. This is about books!!!! I forgot Mike was the one that put the Boneturner’s Tale in the library where Jared eventually found it! And it makes me wonder whether the book kept any record of him trying to use its power? Sort of like the venom symbiote in marvel, where its psyche is affected by that of its host, and then that new symbiote affects the next host. But it’s a symbiote because they affect each other! Looking at other books in the Magnus Archives there are a couple that come to mind when thinking of previous “owners” leaving their mark on it: The Book of the Dead and the Catalogue of the Trapped Dead. The former works as a classic haunted chain-mail plot, while the former literally holds the souls of those who are added to it. Fun coincidence that these are both End related.

It doesn’t really bode well, because no other books that are brought up seem to have that property. I would peg Dictionnaire Infernal as being able to but since we know so little about it, that’s just pure conjecture.

A book like The Boneturner’s Tale doesn’t seem to have any room for new editions (though the Cantebury Tales themselves are kind of notorious for being unfinished). But I just can’t help but imagine these things with some sort of memory, at least for people who try to harness their power. But maybe I’m just putting human qualities onto these books, for the hell of it. The servants and the monsters are where messy human and sentient thoughts happen, these books are much more rigid in their classifications and what powers they represent.
