MarAce Week, 2023 Prompt 2: Booty Shorts.
○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○
It's another causal, early morning. Marco's quietly making his way into the kitchen to start preparing breakfast, not realizing that Ace is already awake and in said kitchen.
As he rounds the corner, he blinks slightly at the sight before him.
Ace is there, reaching for a cup in the cabinet and dressed in a shirt that damn near came to his knees. What that one of his-? Oh he could feel his face warming up.
"Um- Ace- are you wearing anything under that-?" He asks in a light tone. He may or may not of had his hopes up.
Upon hearing his lover, Ace slowly looks over his shoulder and grins softly. Marco looked so cute when he was flustered. Bringing his hands down to grip the edge of the shirt, he slowly pulls it up, only to reveal a pair or booty shorts underneath the shirt.
"Of course I am, why wouldn't I?" Of course he's smirking, and as he predicted Marco looked so very disappointed.
Without a second thought, Marco turned away from his lover to try and hide just how disappointed he was. "N-no reason..."
He then leaves the kitchen to go take a cold shower. Ace is such a damn tease but revenge will come when he least expects it.

Dancing Dreams and Pretty Princes, Chapter 7
Prompt: Day 7, Free Choice—Coronation Ratings: General Audiences Warnings: None Relationships: Marco/Ace, Izou/Thatch Characters: Marco the Phoenix, Portgas D. Ace, Izou, Thatch
Chapter 7 of 7 for the @marcoaceweek event!
Soon after Marco let Ace know in private, they announced the news to the entire kingdom of Goa. Ace stood at Marco’s side as he declared it from the grand balcony overlooking the large plaza out in front of the palace. Thatch stood on his brother’s other side, Izou beside him. Each of them was grinning, wide and bright.
And when Marco proclaimed, “Dear citizens of Goa, from this day onward, I swear to devote my life to your kingdom, and do my best to do you right, as your king!”
Well, it was no understatement to say that the cheers could be heard all the way to Coconomi. They could feel the force of the crowd’s love from three stories up—there was no doubt they would welcome the Newgate family with open arms and wide smiles.
But what took Ace more by surprise was the way that, amidst all the shouts and proclamations of love and happiness, Marco looked to Ace, ever so softly took his hand, and pressed a kiss to the back of it, before raising it high in the air for everyone to see. Ace couldn’t stop grinning the rest of the day.

Here For You (MarAce Week 2023, 1):
Sooooo, it's almost 6am. I've had wonky sleep and have to go to work soon and my brain decided ANGST. Anyways, I've got an AU of Ace surviving Marineford- and I decided to write him having a mental break down after being in a coma for 2 years- hurt comfort it is.
Anyways! Sorry it's long but- enjoy!
○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○○
The sound of things being thrown around had startled Marco, causing him to awaken from his sleep. Beside him, the bed was empty...which could only mean one thing.
𝐼𝑡 𝑤𝑎𝑠 𝑜𝑛𝑒 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑜𝑠𝑒 𝑛𝑖𝑔ℎ𝑡𝑠...
Moving quickly, Marco threw the blankets off himself and made his way out of bed to locate the source of the noise, knowing all too well what he'd find once he got there. Ever since Ace came out of his two year coma, he had nights where he had mental break downs and Marco would always find him on the ground in a mess of things he broke.
Every time, the sight broke his heart. He knew Ace already had some troubles before the incident at Marineford, but now? They seemed so much worse. The self doubt and insecurities his lover already carried seemed to have doubled. The mental and emotional trauma from that day didn't help either. It was all taking a toll on his poor firefly. It didn't make Marco feel any differently about him though. He already swore to be there through everything, and he intended on keeping that promise.
Another crash shook the blonde from his thoughts as his bare feet lightly tapped against the floor. As he thought, the kitchen light was on. Shaking his head slightly, he slowed his steps and stopped just on the edge of the walk way to the kitchen. There, he stopped and listened for a few moments so he could assess the state Ace was in.
"Dammit-!" Ace shouted as quietly as possible. He knew Marco was just down the hall, so he was trying like hell to be quiet but he couldn't stop himself from throwing whatever he could get his hands on. The table had been flipped, chairs knocked over, dishes broken, it looked as if a tornado had torn through the kitchen and left it in ruins.
"Dammit...!" The raven whispered out once again as he slammed his fist down on the counter. His jaw then clenched tightly while his body started to tremble. Slowly, he slid to the floor and brought his knees to his chest. His hands came up to tightly grip his hair while his forehead was pressed against his knees.
The scars on his chest and back were aching again and all the thoughts he tried so hard to get rid of just came flooding back at once. He hated nights like this. They were so stressful...
As he sat there on the floor, a broken cry escaped from him. He had been trying so hard to keep the tears in, but he couldn't hold them back any longer. He couldn't hold anything back any longer...
Just as he finally started to cry, the sound of bare footsteps on the kitchen floor caught his attention, causing him to tense up a bit. He should of known... there was only one person that could be... meaning he once again woke up Marco with this...
Keeping his head down, Ace clenched his jaw once again. He was trying hard to keep it all in, but it was slowly slipping. He hated when Marco saw him like this. As if he didn't have enough to worry about already.
"Ace..." Marco finally spoke out after a few minutes of silence. He must of been analyzing to figure out the best way to go about this.
When the raven didn't reply, Marco let out a small sigh and slowly knelt himself down in front of his lover. While he couldn't see the other's face, he knew Ace was trying so hard to keep his emotions bottled up. No... that wasn't what needed to be done.
Shaking his head slightly, the Phoenix slowly brought his hands up and placed them on Ace's trembling shoulders.
"Ace...please..." Marco tried again, making sure to keep his voice as gentle as possible. He didn't want to startle or upset Ace any more than he already was. "Look at me, darling..."
Still, Ace didn't move. If anything he seemed to try and curl up more. No... that wouldn't do. Moving himself slowly, Marco carefully shifted so be could sit down next to Ace and pull him into his lap. One arm slid around his lover's waist while the other hand came up to gently rest upon those messy raven locks.
"Shh... it's alright, my love... I'm here for you, I promise. Let it all out." He hummed in a soothing tone before placing a gentle kiss right against Ace's temple. "Don't hold it back..."
The hand that was resting upon Ace's head slowly started to ruffle through his hair, while the arm around his waist tightened for security. Marco's gentle voice, and soothing touches slowly got Ace to break out of his shell. Within a few minutes, he let out a choked sob and covered his face with his hands.
"M-Marco...hic... I-I'm sorry...so s-sorry..." Ace finally cried out. "I...didn't mean to... hic..."
"Shhh.... it's okay, everything's okay..." Marco replied gently, though he wasn't sure if Ace was apologizing for the mess or the incident two years ago. Either way, it didn't matter. Marco held no grudge. He just wanted his lover to be alright.
"I told you, I'm here for you... I'm right here and I'm not going anywhere." The Phoenix hummed softly, placing more gentle kisses against Ace's temple and tear-stained cheek.
"W-why...? You don't have to...hic...deal with this... With me..." Ace sounded so broken...so unsure about everything.
"I love you, yoi... You know that. It doesn't matter what you're going through, what battles you're facing, I will always be here and I will always love you for you. I give you my word on that." He tried to sound as reassuring as possible and to his surprise, Ace managed to unfold his body and finally turned to look at him. Seeing that sad expression... Marco felt his chest tighten.
"I...don't deserve someone like you..." Ace whispered out as he closed his eyes. That freckled face was a dark shade of red caused by all the crying he had been doing. Such a look didn't suit someone as beautiful as him.
"You deserve everything, my sweet firefly. Everything good in life." Marco hummed back as he gently wiped away the tears on the raven's cheeks. "And I intend to give you everything I possibly can."
Another sniffle escaped from Ace, but a small smile did manage to form. Slowly he was calming down and settling against Marco's bare chest.
"I...love you so much... Thank you for...hic... dealing with me..."
Before Marco could respond, Ace went limp in his grasp. His breathing was still a bit uneven, but it seemed he had ended up passing out.
Shaking his head slightly, he carefully scooped Ace up in his arms and carried him back to their shared room. The mess could wait. For now, Marco just wanted to get them both back into bed.
It wasn't the first time...and it certainly wouldn't be the last, but Marco was prepared for that. After all, he promised Ace he'd always be here for him, and he intended to hold that promise until the very end.

Dancing Dreams and Pretty Princes, Chapter 3
Prompt: Day 3, Fall Ratings: General Audiences Warnings: None Relationships: Marco/Ace, Izou/Thatch Characters: Marco the Phoenix, Portgas D. Ace, Izou, Thatch Summary: Ace gets to know Marco better, and starts to have proper feelings... he might even fall in love...
Chapter 3 of 7 for the @marcoaceweek event!
Marco and Thatch took their dinners alone, unless it was a communal thing in the grand hall while they were hosting visitors or something of the like.
But after that day at the training grounds, he was invited to have dinner with the brothers. He was sure he’d misunderstood—there was no way someone of such low standing like himself, a mere commoner, was being invited to share a meal with royalty.
Either way, he was nervous enough to force Izou to come with him.
Well. By force he really meant beg, in all honesty.

Dancing Dreams and Pretty Princes, Chapter 4
Prompt: Day 4, Chase Ratings: General Audiences Warnings: None Relationships: Marco/Ace, Izou/Thatch Characters: Marco the Phoenix, Portgas D. Ace, Izou, Thatch Summary: Ace chases after Marco, determined to get more from him
Chapter 4 of 7 for the @marcoaceweek event!
Things deteriorated from there. Well, for Ace at least.
The week they were at his family’s farm, he was too distracted to think about his new situation with Marco—too wrapped up in catching up with his brothers and seeing what they had been up to, what had been changed while he was gone. And most importantly, extracting promises that they would visit the castle as soon as they had time.
His gramps dealt with the visit better than Ace could have expected. Anyone was better than Blackbeard, he supposed, but it helped that Marco and Thatch were relentlessly charming and trying to put their kingdom back together.
Luffy and Sabo loved the princes as well. Sabo, of course, could tell the instant Ace’s face flushed from receiving one of Marco’s grins exactly what his brother’s dilemma was.
He wasn’t free of the teasing until they got back to the palace. Speaking of…
After returning to the palace, a couple things changed. For one, Ace was invited to dinner every night. It had been quite a surprise, and for the first few nights, Ace was a protesting, stammering mess.
“This is improper,” he tried to protest, when Thatch served them cordon bleu, made from scratch with his own recipe, “You needn’t go so out of your way, Your Highness,” when Marco took him out to see the most beautiful sights of the kingdom. “Please, I won’t ever be able to repay you.”
None of it worked, of course—and slowly, but surely, Ace stopped seeing Marco as His Royal Highness, Prince Marco Newgate, Son of His Royal Majesty King Edward Newgate, sovereign of Sphinx, and instead as just Marco. He would even go so far as to say they were friends.
He didn’t catch Izou’s silent fist pump when he told him the news.
Those little actions—the food, the talking, the going out together—it was really doing something to Ace’s heart. Something quite bad, if he just left it like that and didn’t do anything about it.
And if the looks Marco shot him from time to time meant anything, the prince wanted him to do something about it.

Dancing Dreams and Pretty Princes, Chapter 2
Prompt: Day 2, Yearn Ratings: Teen and Up Warnings: None Relationships: Marco/Ace Characters: Marco the Phoenix, Portgas D. Ace, Izou, Thatch Summary: After Marco's dramatic entrance and subsequent saving of the Goa Kingdom, Ace begins to yearn for the prince's attention and pretty smiles.
Chapter 2 of 7 for the @marcoaceweek event!
After that great battle, Ace went back to his life in the palace—working, properly, once more, as a dancer for the court. Izou did as well—but almost none of the others followed their lead. Either way, meeting Marco’s eyes when he looked up from his performances sparked a fire low in his belly that he didn’t really want to put a name or explanation to. It made him want to spend more time around the prince, to get to know him.
The opportunity came to him in the best thought he’d had in a while—bringing food and drink around whenever he wasn’t doing anything else.
He’d begun with simple things first. Water, bread, dried meats. They were all well received—Marco gave him sweet, soft smiles every time, grateful for the interruption as he, Thatch, and their advisors, both of the original court and from Sphinx, planned how to fix the mess left over in Goa.
Which, speaking of Thatch—Ace felt horrible that he hadn’t recognized Whitebeard’s fourth son the moment he saw him, and had addressed him with such disrespect. Well, more like the instincts Makino had shoved in him made him feel horrible. So, as much as he yearned to have Marco's attention and eyes on him, he also had to make it up to the other prince as much as he could.
As it turned out, Thatch was a chef himself. When Ace brought that news back to the kitchens, there was chaos and shouting as they prepared the most exquisite things they had on hand for Ace to take up. Thatch’s eyes lit up at the change, and he gushed over every bit, no matter how small it was. Ace listened dutifully—and ate, as well, since Thatch insisted he try it and rebuild his energy after all that dancing.
Ace didn’t understand half the things he said, to be honest—he’d never even heard of pâté before, but it was certainly something. And when he returned to the kitchens, everyone from the chefs to the grocer crowded around to hear what the chef prince of Sphinx had to say about their food. Ace felt like a goddamn hero every time he reported back, with the way their eyes shined and how they begged him to send their thanks and awe back up.
Ace could tell Thatch had a real passion for cooking. The moment he had a second to spare, he was certain the prince would march right down to the kitchens and thank the chefs himself.
Marco, on the other hand, wasn’t quite as into food as his brother. Ace did find out, however, that he was a fan of just about anything with pineapple in it.
With a bit of pleading and bribing, Ace managed to convince the chefs to make a pineapple dish every other day or so.
Through these new duties that Ace took upon himself, he got to know the brothers better.

Dancing Dreams and Pretty Princes, Chapter 1
Prompt: Day 1, Conquer Ratings: Teen and Up Warnings: Graphic Depictions of Violence Relationships: Marco/Ace Characters: Marco the Phoenix, Portgas D. Ace, Izou, Thatch, Marshall D. Teach | "Blackbeard" Summary: Ace, a dancer in the once-proud kingdom of Goa, is demeaned and humiliated by Blackbeard, a power-hungry king with a strong army. Luckily, Marco comes in just in time to save the kingdom from ruin. From there, feelings blossom between the two.
Chapter 1 of 7 for the @marcoaceweek event!
The very first time Ace saw Marco was when the man was beating the absolute tar out of the king of Ace's kingdom.
But that sounded bad without context.
Teach, or "Blackbeard," as he was more popularly known, had had control of the Goa Kingdom for several months. He and his group of usurpers had taken control from the royal family, composed of a sweet old King who was entirely devoted to his wife, the Queen. Ace had been employed for several years as a dancer of the court, and he enjoyed his position—he’d made a friend, by the name of Izou, who helped him conquer his helplessness when it came to makeup. Well, more like Izou did it for him, as Ace didn’t have the patience required to hold his hand so steady so close to his eyes.
With or without having to sit still to be made up every day, Ace had enjoyed being a dancer. It built muscles in a lithe, pretty way. Not that he cared much about appearances, but it helped keep his agility and speed while also growing in strength.
Plus, being a dancer in the old king’s court was for fun. He made a nice amount of money—and he got to eat leftovers and food directly from the royal kitchens. For free.
But when Blackbeard took over—he had the old, kind king executed, and his wife along with him. It was a tragedy, a horrible travesty that they weren’t even allowed the time to mourn.
Blackbeard had no mercy for the castle staff. He made them all into slaves—and Ace, unfortunately, was his favorite toy. He was forced to fetch the man’s slippers, practically, to sit at his side and peel him grapes, clean up spilled wine at his feet. It was humiliating. Ace wanted to kill the man himself—but knew he couldn’t. The bastard was surrounded by his men at all hours of the day, and Ace knew he’d be killed himself long before he could reach Blackbeard. And if that happened, only more of the same pattern would follow—only someone else would become Teach’s victim. Izou, perhaps, or one of the newer dancers who didn’t know how to defend themselves.
Ace couldn’t let that happen. He’d endure his humiliation at the hands of this piece of shit for as long as it took.
But it couldn’t be forever.
Teach was a shit person. Somehow, he was an even worse King. The kingdom was in shambles already—the outer edges especially. The farming towns had their crops stolen with no recompense, trade deals were disregarded—the entire thing would collapse if it kept going like this. It wouldn’t take long.
But Teach didn’t care. As long as he had a veritably endless feast to pick and choose from every day, he was satisfied. The chefs were worked far past their limit and threatened with death if they even looked like they were going to pause for a fraction of an instant, not to mention the rest of the palace staff. They were all being worked to the bone, and they wouldn’t be able to keep it up much longer.
That was when Marco came.

Dancing Dreams and Pretty Princes, Chapter 6
Prompt: Day 6, King Ratings: General Audiences Warnings: None Relationships: Marco/Ace, Izou/Thatch Characters: Marco the Phoenix, Portgas D. Ace, Izou, Thatch
Chapter 6 of 7 for the @marcoaceweek event!
“What are you going to do when he leaves?”
Ace sat frozen, the words ringing in his ears. The chatter surrounding them became indistinguishable white noise, bouncing around in his head and getting louder by the second. When he spoke again, it sounded as though he were underwater.
“L-leaves?” he choked out. “What do you mean, leaves? Why would he leave?”
Garp blinked back at him. Suddenly, he looked saddened, but also more nervous than Ace had ever seen. He let out a long sigh, and delayed replying by picking at the tablecloth for a moment, the delicate fabric catching against coarse fingertips.
“Ace,” he finally said, a hint morose, still looking down at the table, “I know you’re a bit impulsive, but…”
Normally, such a comment would provoke anger and a fight out of Ace. Now, no such feelings welled to the surface. Only dread, a hint of despair.
Garp shook his head. “You need to think a little more about the future, son.” He finally looked up to meet Ace’s eyes. “The Princes—they’re not from here. Hell, Marco is Old Whitebeard’s firstborn. What did you think would happen?”Whitebeard’s firstborn. Of course. He’d been a fool.

Dancing Dreams and Pretty Princes, Chapter 5
Prompt: Day 5, Celebration Ratings: General Audiences Warnings: None Relationships: Marco/Ace, Izou/Thatch Characters: Marco the Phoenix, Portgas D. Ace, Izou, Thatch Summary: Thatch throws a party for the new couple
Chapter 5 of 7 for the @marcoaceweek event!
Thatch threw a party the very next week. It was an extra-frivolous thing, thanks to Izou’s helping hand, with all sorts of banners, entertainment, and probably the most color Ace had ever seen in one place.
He found out it was in celebration of Marco’s birthday, as well, which would take place in a few days—and then promptly began panicking on what was appropriate to get a prince who had everything he could ever need. He would have to get Izou’s advice later if he wanted even a chance of success.
The party itself was spread all throughout the castle. The entire kingdom was invited, and a good majority showed up. He’d even spent a good few hours with his brothers before the festivities properly started up.
Garp was having a good time chatting up one of the palace’s veteran cooks, who honestly just seemed pleased the old man was scarfing down so much of his steak. The aforementioned chef’s son was around somewhere as well—Ace was pretty sure he’d seen Luffy kidnap the poor boy out to the gardens, as he was wont to do with anyone he found interesting.
Truthfully, he didn’t know where Sabo had ended up, or with who, but in the end, that was probably for the best.

Note
So obviously marcoace week never happened this year when you said it was going to, but is it still gonna happen again eventually? Or if you can't do it, will you find someone else to?
Hiya! Old mod Aussie here, back again and getting everything else up and running once more. Initially in 2019 I stepped away from running the event for personal reasons and removed myself as a blog moderator. It didn't work out too well, and I've only just managed to get back in contact with the Mod who was going to be running 2020-onwards. I have mod status again and will be starting the event back up again. Maybe with a bit less focus and ranty tags, but no less love!
I'll be posting some polls soon for prompts and potential event days :3 If you have any further questions or want to suggest dates, feel free to send me an ask! 🥰

Happy to announce that I will be posting for marcoace week 2023 (Oct 1st-7th)! I finished all 7 days, minus editing, which I'll start on tomorrow! It's actually 1 multichapter fic instead of 7 one shots like I usually do for challenges, so it was pretty fun to write!
