Death Proof
Tumblr media
Hullu kuski säikyttelee kivikovalla kaarallaan misuja tien päällä. Sitten vastaan asettuu vähintään yhtä kovat misut. Jätkä maistelee omia juttujaan.
Kaahailupätkä. Välillä, kun ei kaahailla, jutellaan. Ja pitkästi. Niinkuin Tarantinolla on aina tapana.

i know your interests are mainly on historical sewing, but do you know of anyone on youtube that does more contemporary mens- or masculine styled sewing- that isnt the uninteresting wardrobe basics stuff? so far ive only found JULIUS and happily dressed (who no longer posts 😔) whos styles interest and inspire me- i dont know if im just bad at finding youtube channels :c
Hm, none that I can think of. The only contemporary sewing channel I follow is Marcy Harriell, who occasionally sews things for her husband, but I think most of her videos are dresses and such. I guess Peter Lappin was posting videos for a while 7 or 8 years ago, but I think they were mostly vlogs about what he was working on, without much sewing footage.
You're probably not bad at finding youtube channels, men's sewing content is extremely sparse and hard to find! But maybe if I post this someone else will have some suggestions.

Threads, May 2019
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
What? May? Really? Well, it can give us all hope that spring is on the way. Meanwhile, enjoy the clever piecing of cotton wax prints in Marcy Harriell’s article which is featured in both the top image here and the cover photo. Since these prints often feature very large motifs, it is essential to make sure they don’t fall in silly places like on your breasts or your hind end. Harriell masterfully cuts these prints, cutting up large motifs if need be and piecing seams, in order to make the most of them. It will take some experimentation and practice to do the same yourself, but the challenge will be worth it if you like bold prints.
There is also a dimensional lace article by Joi Mahon for those of us with embroidery machines. She shows the embellishment placed the wrist which is probably good for piano players and flamenco dancers, but placing such interesting features near the neckline would work better for most of us. Beverly Johnson explains how to make a bralette from start to finish. That is her Sweet Sixteen pattern in pink lace in the third photo and about the prettiest one I have seen. Ellen W. Miller shows how to place design and place soutache, a kind of narrow cording, which works best on a substantial, tailored garment here just as it did when the Victorians put it all over capes and coats.
Plus there are the regular features on new products, new patterns, and more technical articles as well. Threads is always an interesting read and this issue makes me want to get back to my sewing machine.
You can find it at newsstands, at your local fabric shop, and online here: https://www.threadsmagazine.com/
