Nobody Does It Better - Roger Moore filming the opening credits to The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) along with dancer (and bodybuilder) Carolyn Cheshire and Maurice Binder, the title designer behind 16 Bond movies (he also created the opening gun barrel effect for the franchise). Carolyn can be seen throughout the title sequence both with Roger and solo doing various gymnastics (there were a couple of other girls in the opening titles and I don't know who did what).
I believe this was also the first movie in the franchise in which the Bond actor appears as part of the opening credits but I stand to be corrected on that one. Best bit for me is where Bond pushes the marching soldiers over. If that's put you in the mood for what, to me, may be the best Bond opening credits then look no further.

♫ The Tracks Of My Tears ♫ (Redux)
♫ The Tracks Of My Tears ♫ (Redux)
Well, all last week was Neil Diamond Week here on Filosofa’s Word, and once it ended, David commented that now perhaps we could get back to some Smokey Robinson and some Gladys Knight!  I’m more than happy to oblige on those two, so let’s start with this gem from Smokey Robinson.  One thing I learned from readers’ comments when I last played this back in October 2020 was that this version by…

Shout at the Devil (1976)
My rating: 2/10
What in all the fucks is this movie. It's clearly going for "lighthearted romp", but then there's piles of mangled corpses all over the place, and there's extended graphic depictions of elephant poaching, piles of bloody tusks and all - this is done by the protagonists, mind you. The bad guy is a ridiculous, Pickelhaube wearing, sausage eating caricature, but he'll happily commit war crimes, up to and including the murder of a baby. At one point Roger Moore puts on blackface so he can infiltrate the German ship and plant a bomb, something that could have been easily accomplished by the half dozen actual black men accompanying him. Just- just fuck this movie. So much.

Who Framed Roger Rabbit.
I'm unsure whether the living conditions of the Toons would fall into race stratification, as they're less their own race than their own species? In any event, there's plenty to cover.
Most if not all Toons have jobs in the entertainment industry, not only because it comes naturally to them but also because it's essentially the only jobs they can get outside of Toontown. "Gender" plays a role too. Characters like Jessica Rabbit work in what are essentially Gentleman's Clubs as it's all they can get as a job due to the way they're drawn, which is viewed as oversexualized by the humans in the world (and the viewer). They cannot control how they are drawn, nor perceived, but it determines their status and role within the world. I put gender in quotation marks as the Toon characters do not seem to value gender or sexuality as appealing/attractive/of note, so much as the ability to make someone laugh.
Toontown in its entirety, the place where all Toons live, is owned by Marvin Acme. The plot of the movie follows attempts to secure Toontown so it does not get turned into a highway. This makes the Toons a vulnerable and marginalized group. Their society, from the small amount covering the topic, seems to fall the most into the Elite-Mass Hierarchy System, though not quite perfectly. The land they live on is less governed by one person than owned, but while Acme owned it they did have equality of opportunity.
What is certain is that the Davis-Moore thesis would not be "correct" in this context. There are higher paid Toons, even though they're nearly all in the entertainment industry. Work isn't entirely skill based, but also has to do with a Toon's very makeup- they have certain abilities from birth. One of the characters is a huge movie star because he remains a baby, even though he is a full grown man. This is not really a skill or talent so much as just profiting off of his appearances, and yet he is rewarded highly for it. This aligns with opposition to the theory centering around "hey, this doesn't really take race, class by birth, gender, etc. into account" (to put it simply).
I'm not sure what the filmmakers are trying to convey about social stratification. It almost falls more under Hegel's views about interdependence and a slave-master relationship. There's a blatant power imbalance, but also a lot of interdependence. The Humans provide the jobs, and control Toontown, but the Toons desire the amusement of the Humans. The Humans give them jobs. The movie is hard to fit into a certain lens because Toons are treated as a strange mix between people, property, and characters. The rules of their very living and dying is different- bludgeoning one wouldn't kill it but making it laugh to death works. How do you apply the gravity of starvation and poverty to a "hobo" cartoon caricature which is made to be poor? Is it even suffering? Are animal Toons to be considered less than Human if they look and act like animals.... but are sentient? Dumbo in the movie is paid in peanuts! Is that fair to him, when his costars are making real world money? What is of more value to an elephant? Is the whole issue of Betty Boop and Jessica Rabbit working in a Human Gentleman's Club to be ogled even though it's not applicable to Toon culture and values considered exploitation of "Women" (do they even count as women or are they just perceived as women by human society?)
There's more nuance to overthinking this movie than you'd imagine. There's certainly many angles you could view it from.
Anyhow, movie stars like Roger Rabbit are high up in the "layers of rock" so to speak. They have a lot of money, a lot of publicity, and rank even in Human society. He and his wife Jessica are celebrities, after all! Big name characters like Bugs Bunny and Mickey Mouse are also in this category. It's hard to judge standards of living amongst Toons. Eddie, the detective (Human) is shown to be on hard times. He experienced downward mobility after his brother died. This resulted in him becoming an alcoholic and he neglected his duties, stopping engagement in his detective work. So desperate for money (and presumably below the poverty line) he takes a job far below his skill level (a snoop job (taking photos of Jessica "cheating" (playing literal patty cake)), despite having been a well respected detective). He would, at this point in the movie, likely fall into relative poverty. He is still eating, still has the agency and as such a home, etc. but he's not living comfortably by any means. This is also probably an example of anomie affecting a person.
Whose theory is the most applicable in explaining social stratification in the movie? Probably neo-Marxist Erik Olin Wright. Because there's so much nuance in what's happening due to the complexities of Toons existing, a perspective that asks a lot of questions is important. You cannot be black and white when some of the "people" you're talking about are literally drawn in black and white. There's a lot of power dynamics to be discussed, and a lot of oppression that can be viewed in a semi-Marxist lens (particularly since the main plot of the movie sort of centers around the destruction of public transport in favour of highways and all that entails).

“[Star Trek: The Next Generations fourth season episode ‘The Host’ i]s one of the most outstanding episodes we've ever done,” says story editor Brannon Braga. “Being in love with someone is not very fresh. Having the parasite being as the real intelligence and the body as the host is. It was not originally pitched as a love story, it was pitched as a squirmy worm who's really the intelligence. What's ironic is that the most repulsive story ever pitched to us ended up being the most touching love story and that's why it's so unique." Elaborates Ron Moore, “The addition of Beverly to that story is the vital component. A lot of freelancers would take that premise and say this is a show about the ambassador and the struggles of the parasitic creature and the war negotiations. No one really cares about that. But when it becomes a Beverly problem, who's in the position with the problem, and to some extent Riker, that's how it became a Star Trek story.” Ultimately ‘The Host’ has become one of the most popular Trek episodes in light of its non-polemic, but effective, advocacy of tolerance and acceptance. [...] Although many questioned Dr. Crusher's rejection of Odan, once transplanted into a female body, as homophobic, [director Marvin] Rush disagrees vehemently. “Most of the people that I have talked to thought the show worked pretty well and were entertained. Some comment was that they were unhappy with the ending because it was left a question. There was, or could have been, a sort of homosexual aspect to is [sic] and we chose not to go that route with it. I felt that it was more about the nature of love, why we love and what prevents us from loving. To me the best analogy is if your beloved turned into a cockroach, could you love a cockroach? It's the same person, if the person is the personality and the core within, but can you get past the outside? We as humans are affected by the whole package, including the outside shell, and Gates [McFadden] in her last scene talks about maybe someday our ability to love won't be so limited. She says mankind may one day be able to deal with this, but I can't. To me that is about the nature of love and I think that's an interesting, worthy discussion. Rather than deal with the fact it was because of any homosexual bent per se, it's just that in our culture and our society people who are heterosexual who want the companionship of a male because they are a female, wouldn't be able to deal with that opposite situation.”
From “Captains' Logs: The Unauthorized Complete Trek Voyages” by Edward Gross and Mark A. Altman (1995)
[For the record, I'm quoting this while completely disagreeing with the argument Marvin Rush made here. I think it's a textbook example of someone going ‘no I'm not a homophobe but—’ while also bringing transphobic sentiments to the table in order to justify themself. And it would've been easy to entirely sidestep all these ad-hoc rationalizations for ‘The Host’, just by doing what ‘Rejoined’ did with the same concepts—of the Trill and of love transcending hosts while still not being quite enough for a happily ever after—only a few years later.]

Not A Monster | Marvin Milk x m!reader
『••✎••』
↳ ❝ Can I request mm (from the boys show) x male reader with ptsd? (reader was injected with V but not really a "superhero" by any means, maybe an international terror is more accurate)
With prompts “Yeah, be rational, sure. I'm a fucking werewolf!” and “I'm torn between feeling very sorry for you and finding you terribly attractive.” ❞
: ̗̀ M.M. could never see you as a monster, even if you might feel like one yourself.
: ̗̀➛ swearing, drugging, mentions of violence
•───────────────★•♛•★──────────────•
You sighed heavily as you sat down on the worn leather sofa, your eyes never once leaving Marvin for even a split second as your hands ran up and down your thighs, nervousness eating away at you harshly. Debating on how to properly tell him, and be honest about it at the same time.
Blood was beginning to drip down the back of your neck, leaving a warm sensation trailing down that left you cringing. Although it was not your own.
Even Marvin could easily all too easily, as you did not have a single mark on your body; but as you felt a shiver run down your spine, you became even more aware of the fact that you were utterly naked.
You weren’t usually so awkward about being naked in front of Marvin, it was nothing new and the two of you had seen each other in compromising positions more than you could even think of counting, but this time felt more different.
It was like your entire soul was bare and he could see every notch and knock upon it; for the first time ever, feeling vulnerable in front of Marvin felt genuinely wrong. Scary.
But when he tossed a pair of boxers at you, you quickly tugged them on and pulled on his brown leather jacket. His favourite. You felt less naked but still so exposed.
Marvin eyed you carefully and closely for a moment as he surveyed you and tried to figure out what you wanted to say; checking to see if you were about to go back and become the monster he had seen earlier.
You shivered under his gaze, but you weren’t scared - you could never be scared of Marvin even though now you were not the same as the man he had always known you to be. You were changed, and when he reached out to put his hand on your knee, you flinched.
You had never done that before, and the worry and concern was more than evident and clear in his big brown eyes as he frowned.
Slowly, Marvin retracted his hand and withdrew it as he cleared his throat. Thinking of the right thing to say to you.
“I don’t expect you to talk. But I get it. What they did to you - I get why you wanna strike a match and watch the world burn.”
You shook your head as you sighed. “I can still feel the needles. Smell the fucking hand sanitiser… and now they’re calling me a terrorist… I’m trying to protect people, Marv. Stop it from ever happening again… and they’re calling me a terrorist for it.”
“Tends to happen when you blow up labs and maul people,” he said as he nodded slowly. “But I get it. You’ll be safe here. Promise.”
You swallowed thickly as you furrowed your brows. “Thank you… but why? What did I do to deserve it?”
“You’re working towards the same goal as we are,” Marvin started, “plus, I’m torn between feeling very sorry for you and finding you incredibly attractive.”
You scoffed as you rolled your eyes at him; it wasn’t that you didn’t want to help Marvin with taking down Homelander and Soldier Boy - as both were responsible for what had happened to you - but rather that you could not believe he would find you attractive after what you had become.
He knew about you, he knew what you were, the terrible monster with gnashing jaws and snarling jowls; the monster that hunted people all along and up the moors. Yet he still managed to find you attractive - desirable. Worth his time and his effort. Worth his gaze. You could not fathom or believe it in the slightest, only able to laugh off how awkward you felt.
“If you’re trying to flatter me into joining The Boys-”
Marvin shook his head. “I’m not. I want you to be rational, though.”
“Yeah, be rational, sure. I’m a fucking werewolf! They injected me with that V shit and turned me into a fucking monster! They killed all the good that was left in me when Homelander pinned me down and said I was chosen by him to become this! How the fuck can I be rational about this, Marv?”
The tears in your eyes, so visible and so glistening, made him shake his head slowly as he sniffled and swallowed thickly. “Then let me be the rational one, yeah? Call me a motherfucker with a heart, but you shouldn’t be alone on this, and I wanna be there for you like you were there for me.”
Slowly, you nodded as you sighed, wiping your eyes. “Alright, alright… I’ll join - one one condition.”
“What’s that?” He asked, moving to sit beside you.
He didn’t make a move to touch you, though, as he knew that you would only flinch and become startled again; so he just leaned back into the sofa, and kept his gaze on you. You cleared your throat, shifting around to get comfortable as you thought of how best to phrase it.
“That you will never lie to me again - I know I’m a monster, alright? Undesirable, terrible. Evil,” your voice shook a little before fully breaking. “Please never make me even feel like it’s even a small possibility it might not be true.”
Marvin sighed heavily as he shook his head slowly, clearing his throat and fidgeting slightly. “That wasn’t a lie, and you know it.”
“Marvin-”
“You’re not a monster,” he insisted. “You never were, and you never will be. You are not a monster. You’re a man who I feel sorry for and who I also feel attracted to. It ain’t your fault that you got injected with that shit against your will. You’re not a fucking monster, and you can help us take down Homelander and Soldier Boy… you’re not a terrorist.”
“Marvin, I appreciate the pep talk,” you sighed, raking your hand down your face. “But I just… don’t worry.”
“Okay,” he said quietly. “Get some rest, we’ll get something to eat after and then we’ll… we’ll talk more about what I said.”

this is for you @uhhbeans my most beloved
ok so like. originally seán made a game about the egos that was so successfull that a company that makes movies approached him with an offer to make a movie based on his game
BUT
we all know what seán is doing to these characters now, the anomaly found video and the comics are just the tip of the iceberg. so, let's revamp the actor au!!
(backstory, info about the actors and some headcanons under the cut)
before we properly start: seán is friends with a guy named antony; they started to talk when "jacksepticeye" was created, antony used to help him with some of the editing. so, in this universe, antony was one of the editors along with alice
seán always discussed this story with his editors, and antony was the one that really motivated, gave new stories, reasons, showed how he could make it better, and act better as well!! he's an actor too :]
so, when seán (i'm repeating his name too much sorry) started to change the route of the story and said he wanted something more serious, antony (and a team, ofc) helped him develop Anomaly Found. and for all his help and ideas, seán asked his friend to portray anti from now on. and antony couldn't be more honoured
so, anomaly found happens! seán's chase here like irl. and the comics come out, and much more stuff, etc etc. to give the egos an ending, he decides to make it a movie, but since he couldn't like. act as 5 dudes and at the same time help with production, he decided to hire actors!
WITH YOU, THE SEPTIC CREW!!
Elias Schmidt, German, 32, as Henrik Von Schneeplestein!
Ryan White, American, 35, as Chase Brody!
Oliver Williams, British, 39, as Marvin the Magnificent!
Patrick O'Brien, Irish, 35, as JackieBoyMan!
George Cole, British, 43, as Jameson Jackson!
and finally, Antony Moore, British, 40, as AntiSepticEye!
and now, some headcanons of this AU for the soul :]
Seán and Antony were the ones to make the auditions, and they both wanted actors that could bring their experiences and thoughts into the characters
bc of that, Elias' german (but not a doctor, that'd be asking too much), George's mute and Patrick's autistic
Elias is very good at acting as Henrik, but he's not like him in the slightest. he's the youngest of the crew and a big jokester
despite that, he loves Henrik to bits! he's always doing lives and videos like "henrik answers your questions" while they're filming
this is Ryan's first big budget movie, and he's kinda nervous about it
different from Chase, he isn't married and honestly hates alcohool. when asked, he usually says "so is anyone interested in being my stacy? aside from the divorce and well. the horrors"
Elias jokes he's much more like initial Chase (he watched all the videos about the egos, even if Seán said it's not necessary bc a lot changed) and Ryan's much more like fanon Henrik
Patrick and Ryan are the most serious of the crew, it's hard to get a smile out of them. that doesn't mean they don't enjoy the movie or their company, ofc!
Antony's a dad! his son plays as Chase's kid bc it was the only kid that wasn't scared of Anti's makeup (and the antiaverage shippers of this universe enjoy this fact a lot)
Oliver and George are the ones who unintentionally spoil the most
Oliver looovees to talk and read about Marvin shipps. he's feeding the marvelsepticeye shippers very well!
Patrick on the other side isn't very happy in joining his shenanigans lol
George is a modern man, he loves his cellphone and his bluetooth earphones, so acting as Jameson (a man from 1920s) was a bit of a challenge to him, but he loves challenges!
he's very vocal about ableism towards mute people. and also very vocal about jj's sexual life
if they ever went to buzzfeed to promote the movie, Patrick would loooove the puppy interviews and George and Elias would loooove the "[x] reads thirst tweets"
when asked if they knew jacksepticeye,
Elias: ofc, who doesn't? i used to watch his videos all the time! what do you mean he's the one behind this
Ryan: i used to watch a bit when i was younger, we're the same age so it was like hanging out with a friend. what do you mean he's the one behind this
Oliver: ooh, i guess so? my siblings used to watch this dude like, all day. he's the one doing this? neat, i guess
Patrick: of course, everytime i mentioned i'm from Ireland people used to be like "omg jacksepticeye's from there!!!", it kinda annoyed me. he's the director????... he didn't hear me, right?
George, signing: who?
Antony: i heard he's a pain in the ass to work with (cut to Seán telling him to shut the fuck up)

♫ The Tracks Of My Tears ♫
I am just in the mood for some Smokey Robinson tonight … how ’bout you?  When I last played this in 2020, several readers mentioned the Johnny Rivers’ version, so I’m including it here tonight.  I still prefer Smokey, but Johnny did it well, too! Miracles leader Smokey Robinson came up with the concept when he was looking in the mirror one day, and thinking, What if a person would cry so much…
