miscellaneous lost boys headcanons because i can't stop thinking about them

david and star both have really bad acne. star tries to get david to use products to deal with it but he never gets in the habit

marko binds on the boardwalk because of social dysphoria/wanting to pass, but he doesn't bind in the cave all that much

paul doesn't actually have his ears pierced, he wears clip ons. he has a fear of needles

star is a relentless food critic even though she can't cook for shit

none of the vampires can cook. they don't eat human food so even if they could cook at one point they fell out of practice

if they lived to 2021 paul and marko would genuinely enjoy among us

all of the vamps have weekly jackbox nights. usually they have the family friendly filters on so laddie can play, but they'll turn them off if laddie goes to bed early

they had to stop playing mario kart together after david got mad and broke a Wii mote

dwayne plays roblox. idk i just think he'd like it

ghc + sharing an apartment headcanons

so the ever incredible @foundfamilytropes recently made a post about the good hair crew renting an apartment in nyc together which I LOVE so I decided to help expand that thought!!

• andi is the first to suggest moving to new york after getting a scholarship opportunity for an art school

• cyrus is on board immediately, of course. he’s already researching apartments, schools, and jobs (+ local restaurants and stores)

• buffy is a lot more hesitant though. she’s not entirely ready for a big move after growing up in a military family (and y'all know how she is with change) so she initially says no

• so andi and cyrus move to ny shortly after graduating, renting a two bedroom apartment together and going to their respective schools (andi for graphic design and cyrus for psychology)

• my god… this apartment… is a MESS. andi leaves art pieces in random places and a corner of her room is covered in miscellaneous paint. cyrus’ organizational skills went out the window as soon as college stressed him out for the first time. he leaves highlighters and reusable coffee cups on the floor constantly. they BOTH forgot to do the dishes this week.

• and between the 24/7 coffee shop around the corner, andi’s assignment deadlines, and cyrus’ massive psych textbooks, they spend a LOT of time awake during late hours

• but despite the shared college stress, they still have a really good time living together and are great roommates. cyrus always drapes a blanket over andi’s shoulders when she falls asleep on the couch or at the kitchen counter. andi makes cyrus tea without being asked whenever she knows he’s stressed. they reenact musicals together in the living room and make each other dinner. after one reads a book, they always lend it to the other to read regardless of how good it was. (“cyrus this book was garbage. read it now.” and “this was the best book I’ve ever read in my ENTIRE LIFE. no hyperbole, andi.” are both said pretty often in this house)

• eventually, buffy realizes she isn’t getting what she wants out of shadyside and decides to join this mixed bag of a living space (she attends a local college and goes for a degree in physical therapy)

• with the added roomie, they get an Apartment Upgrade—not without buffy roasting the pair for their disastrous living habits though

• and as she moves into their new three bedroom, the ecosystem is back in place! and way better than ever

• in fact, buffy was apparently the missing link in tidiness. they still have their occasional messes and clutter in places, but overall she’s on the ball to make sure everyone is doing their part for a clean living space

• so they’ve made themselves a warm home full of late night laughter, clothes swapping, binge-watching, mario kart, and wild amounts of love and support (buffy ofc joins in on the at-home-musicals and book sharing)

• but they also sometimes argue over small things like the remote (when andi and cyrus want to watch gbbo but buffy wants to watch march madness? awful!) and time spent in the bathroom (cyrus takes the longest. it’s a process.)

• but all in all they’re the perfect roommates for each other and even more perfect best friends—even after all these years. :^)

Welcome to my humble abode! I live on the second floor of Minta Martin Hall, which is reserved for the Presidential Fellows (our academic and social honor society which has a close relationship with the president of the college). I have a roommate, Jakob Stiens, who you can see in a few pictures. You may also be able to spot some of my decorations. I am most proud of my posters above my desk (Ron Swanson's Pyramid of Greatness and Bluto from Animal House, if you were unsure of what they were).

Speaking of my desk, I have found that my set-up is very productive and organized. As you can see from the picture, I have miscellaneous items up top on the shelf including the books for my classes, a mug for hot drinks, a mason jar I painted at an SEB event (you might remember it from my Instagram take-over), a fan (it can get hot so it's good to have), and other everyday necessities. Underneath that, I have my computer, the second monitor I have hooked up to it, my wireless mouse, my wireless keyboard, and my lamp. In my drawers, I have countless important papers, office supplies, and other necessities (which may or may not include a personal stache of watermelon sour patch).

My bed is pretty standard and comfy ( and, yes, that is a Power Rangers pillow and I am proud of it). You might notice my friend Nicole sitting on my bed. She and a few of my other friends will come and sit in my room to do homework or just to hang out. I also have a Xbox One and a TV (homework doesn't take up all of my free time). My roommate and I arranged our beds in a way that maximized our free space and allowed for easy access to all of the room (thanks to my brother Gary for that idea).

The guys on my floor are pretty chill and they come from all over. My across the hall neighbor, Will, is a sophomore who transferred to WAC this year (good choice), one of the guys that lives to his left, Will, (I know, it’s weird how we have a Will-muda Triangle at the end of the hall) is from Maryland, and one of his neighbors is from Boston. We mess with and help each other when each is needed and our RA, Chris, (Props to him for the Spongebob themed Roommate 101 board) sometimes joins in the fun but also keeps us in line. We are the only floor of guys in Minta Martin so there's naturally a smell difference between the rest of the building and our floor.

Overall, I like my building, dorm, and the people I live with in both. The transition from high school was made a lot easier because of how inviting my RA and the other people on my floor (and the rest of the building) were. It may not be an apartment, but I love where I'm living this year.

My song selection this time is "Our House" by Madness(video). It's a classic song that describes a fun place where multiple people live and " There's always something happening/ and it's usually quite loud." This perfectly fits the feeling I have when I'm in Minta Martin and people are moving around, playing Mario Kart, or just hanging in someone's room.

Expressionism has a way of achieving transcendence without much caring about the lines it crosses; and Steele is nothing if not a natural, even physiognomic case of lived expressionism: you don't need askew sets or painted shadows with a face like that. If, instead of expressing emotion through the decor, or through refined acting or method-school angst, you were going to do it just by being an exquisite and uncanny human sculpture positioning yourself just so, you needed a look that contained contradictions, complexity, confusion, a different madhouse of passion from every angle.

Enter a 22-year-old actress holding the patent on gothic atmosphere, and occasionally leasing it to cinema. Not to mention the most gifted film critic who ever lived, johnny-on-the-spot, to seal her in memory. Pondering Barbara Steele from a distance of three years, because Black Sunday had been banned in England, Steele’s original supplicant, Raymond Durgnat, poured critical infatuation onto the page. And he did so in the spiritual home to every true cinephile, i.e., his mother’s basement.Where does Steele herself emerge from but the “Rank Charm School,” another dark hole in the ground? Actors' energies were systematically tamped down, imprisoned in elaborate instructions about the "correct" way to walk, to get out of a car, to sit, to stand, every movement roboticized so that actual human emotion is bound to appear like a strange eruption amid the congested artifice, a breaking-through of Life which perversely feels more like demonic possession or madness. Durgnat describes a quality beyond performance, capturing the sylph I know and love: “Surely vast tracts of virgin territory lie unexplored to a screen personality situated, perhaps awkwardly, but how fascinatingly, somewhere in the regions between a Celtic feminine occultism and a devil-may-care energy.”

Durgnat places her between the Ancient and the Mod, while her career naturally equates High and Low. Meanwhile, Pauline Kael, who never publishes her program notes on Black Sunday, sees other strange harmonies. “The resurrected 200-year-old witch Princess Asa and the beautiful Princess Katia are both played by the English actress Barbara Steele in a deadpan manner that makes evil and good all but indistinguishable.” It takes a Brit with roots in Portugal to embody both paganism’s shameless desire and Catholicism’s threat of fire and brimstone — and balance them effortlessly, as Steele does. Her directors also become human fulcrums. Maybe the influence is Rome itself: even the lowliest pornographer or horror movie hack, based in such a city, would be immersed in ancient beauty. The Immortal City could be very immoral too, but the elegance and grandeur would impose themselves even on junk. Black Sunday was shot under battle conditions — a brutally cold December that saw cast and crew extremely ill with a virus — tending to reinforce Steele’s image of herself as a screen presence: “I don’t want to wear crinolen, I’m just a big blade.”
