sure, here you go xD 😡
Been thinking this lately while watching some let's plays of games I like that aren't necessarily polished: it's okay to like things that are more than a little bit shit.
Maybe it's cheesy, the plot is stupid, the writer's make some baffling decisions, or there wasn't enough budget and/or time to finish a thing before sending it to print (among other reasons). That's fine. It's fun! Flaws can help the brighter parts shine, and there's plenty of room for fixing things if you want to dig in with whatever types of fanworks you prefer (fic, art, rp, etc.). It doesn't have to be an indicator of taste.
My favorite thing might not be as polished and perfect as [x] other similar things, but that doesn't mean it needs to get shit on. Final Fantasy 15 is a good example of this. It's the most recent numbered title in the series and is currently in its "worst game in the series" phase while its predecessor, FF13, is being viewed in a more sympathetic light (NPI). FF15 is now the worst game in the series and everything about it is bad, end of discussion per the FF fanbase. I hate that kind of thing and am tired of defending the imperfections of things I like.
But more importantly?

Send me a 😡 emoji and I'll give you an unpopular opinion about a thing!

My second contribution for Hallow: A Guardian Zine! This time it’s an illustration for @miss-ingno‘s spectacular fic Masquerade. Seriously, go read it. The amount of flirting and sexual tension gives me LIFE.
I had so much fun with this one and might have gone a little overboard on the details, insisting on drawing every single texture myself. Because I’m Extra like that ;)

Got tagged by @greighish again :D
15 questions for 15 mutuals:
are you named after anyone? - nope but apparently all the younger kids on the maternal side of the family got named after me? we don’t really do generational names in vietnamese I think (my older cousins all have different names), but all the younger kids’ names start the same as mine.
when was the last time you cried? - probably during my rewatch of “lighting up the stars”? but actual cry was in january after 25h travel to vietnam and then all the stress got to me and I was annoyed at my family.
do you have any kids? - no, and I don’t want any. I’m slowly starting to look around for a hysterectomy now that I’m turning 30 soon and hopefully doctors are more open to doing that procedure on 30+ years old patients.
do you use sarcasm a lot? - rarely. my brain is too slow to come up with sarcasm.
what sports do you/have you played? - currently none. I tried some but never stuck with anything. swimming, yoga, kung fu, iaido, ice skating... I’m too tired after work to commit to any sports. I do want to look into martial arts in the future, most likely vovinam. the most I do now is playing just dance on the switch once every few weeks. also I want a VR gaming set for beat saber.
what’s the first thing you notice about people? - idk I don’t really pay attention to people lmao. wish I wouldn’t notice the smell of others, I feel like my nose is too sensitive.
eye color? - brown
scary movies or happy endings? - HE! I don’t really like to watch scary stuff.
any special talents? - none in particular I think?
where were you born? - Berlin
any hobbies? - karaoke, reading, translation (in theory, haven’t done that in a while...)
do you have any pets? - no, never wanted any. I can’t even take care of myself properly. also all the fur and poop? nah.
how tall are you? - 152 cm (4′11″).
favorite subject in school? - english because it was easy.
dream job? - I do not dream of labour. as a kid I wanted to be a scientist but seeing all of them at work just writing project and grant proposals, research papers, etc. I’m glad I didn’t go in that direction. working as a lab technician is enough, though I do hate working with chemicals... another childhood dream was editor but I don’t think reading for work would be fun. also I’m not good with analysing text. if we ever get unconditional basic income I’d be ok with any job as long as I don’t have to work more than 15h per week and I don’t have to get dirty.
Gonna tag a few folks this time, but no pressure! And anyone else feel free to do it too! @miss-ingno @asoftspotforangels @rizababe @mindfogger @the-marron

4 for Who Holds The Devil, 26 and 45!
Hi there! 💜
4. What detail in Who Holds the Devil are you really proud of?
Quite a lot of them? xD But if I have to pick one I'd say the characterisation. Both Yo Han and Ga On are very complex characters and there's a lot to take into consideration when writing them. But it's a fun challenge and I'm very proud of how well I'm able to portray them.
Granted, at this point, they've evolved so far from the canon that they're quite different from how they appear in the drama, but that's a part of writing a fic as long as Who Holds the Devil. The characters are bound to change and grow as the story progresses.
Yo Han, in particular, is someone I enjoy writing since he's so delightfully specific in how he behaves. And he's got such control over his own thoughts and emotions that everything is calculated. Nothing is done on a whim or without an underlying reason. Which means I have to know that reason, even if it's not his POV.
He keeps me on my toes, that one xD
26. Would you rather write a fic that had no dialogue or one that was only dialogue?
No dialogue, for sure. I've actually already written one of those, years ago! It's called Jukebox (The Losers) and is 6k without a single line of spoken dialogue. I have another called Skin on Skin (also The Losers) that's 5k and only has, like, seven lines of dialogue at the very end.
My writing is of the kind that as long as I can describe things, I can tell a story. So to limit it to only dialogue would be extremely difficult. But the other way around? With no dialogue? No problem.
45. What’s something you’ve improved on since you started writing fic?
I would have to say the writing itself. Not just grammar, vocabulary, and technical stuff like that, but also how much I dare to play around with my wording, my sentence structure etc. I was so nervous when I first started, wanting everything to be perfect (especially since English isn't my first language) that I didn't really allow myself to explore just how creative I can be with my writing. The rules held me back.
But nowadays I have no such qualms. I'll write whatever I want, even if it's not a proper sentence or if the word choice is unconventional. I've let go of a lot of the perfectionism that hampered my writing and am now able to take more risks and be a lot more brave. And I quite like that, not only because of the new style I've developed because of it, but also because it's just more fun and freeing. Writing itself feels more joyful now. And I just feel more confident overall.
So yeah. I like that I've improved my use of the English language so much that I no longer give any fucks about the rules xD

Hi Missy! Let's see what these are, shall we?
✨ Give you and your writing a compliment. Go on now. You know you deserve it. 😉
. . .You. I'll get you for this. Anyway: @ me: uuuuh that weird dreamlike quality to your vague stream of consciousness type fic bits due to that lovely (/s) aphantasia actually works out pretty well for some types of bits. Good job.
💖 What made you start writing?
I started writing again because I was being plagued with A Weird AU for Emergency!... which I still need to get back to, but Guardian has eaten my higher thought processes. That's not such a bad thing, though.
🤩 Who is your favorite character to write?
Honestly? Shen Wei. He's a lot of fun to, uh. Stab, a little. Or a lot, let's be real here.
It's a hell of a time being my favourite character.
Thanks for the ask! :3c

so. ghost kitty fic? 👀
And also @la-muerta
Tumblr media
This was inspired by the discussion about this comic that was posted in the Guardian discord (possibly related to what inspired Missy's void creature AU?)
It's set in post-canon novelverse. One day, shortly after the events of the first extra, Shen Wei finds a ghost tribe kitty (ie. a ghost that's somehow made itself into the shape of a cat) that starts following him around. This is strange, because the ghost tribe was supposed to have disappeared/melted into the fabric of the world after Shen Wei gained a soul, so SW & ZYL take her in while they investigate.
ZYL immediately falls in love with the cat, which is the cutest little menace. DQ is greatly perturbed by her, because what the HELL is that thing?? And how dare she try to impersonate the most majestic of creatures? And even Shen Wei soon learns to love her as well 🥺 It's mostly fluff, though we do eventually find out what the (literal) hell she actually is.
Ask me about my WIPs!

Fest Recap
Tumblr media
It's hard to believe it's been TWO YEARS since Guardian Bingo launched. In that time, we issued 138 cards and more than 100 badges. There are 456 works in the AO3 collection and many other posts on tumblr with art, edits, meta, fanARTifacts, and other creations. While it's now time to say goodbye (at least for this fest - the story will keep on going), I didn't want to leave without recognizing the people who made this fest so amazing. First, a HUGE thanks to @highlynerdy, who created all of the gorgeous fest graphics (banner, icon, cards, and badges) and @sasamelons, who provided invaluable help with initial prompts and then supplied each month's bonus prompt. Without them, this fest wouldn't have happened. They have been awesome co-mods!!! Second, a massive thank you to everyone who participated!!!! It's been so great to see all the amazing creations that the prompts inspired. Guardian fandom, you are truly talented!!! To celebrate everyone's creations, I'm loading the queue with reblogs of fills from the past two years.
Below the cut, I've posted a list of badges claimed. (Not everyone who participated claimed a badge.) I'm only tagging people once with the highest badge they earned. (So if you earned a Lit Guardian Lantern, your name will only appear in that list since earning that badge means you also earned the others.) Users that aren't tagged aren't on tumblr. I think I have everyone, but many apologies if I missed you.
I hope you've all enjoyed this fest and that it was fun and low-stress. In a week or so, I plan to post a few cards in case anyone is looking for inspiration. While we won't be issuing more badges or posting new bonus prompts, I am leaving the AO3 collection open and will periodically check the fest account. If you create something based on a card prompt, @ us in your post and we'll reblog it. Guardian Bingo, it has been a BLAST!!! Thank you all for making this a fabulous fest!!!! mod @tehfanglyfish

5 & 12? :D
Thanks, @miss-ingno!
5. What work of yours got more feedback than you expected?
...honestly none of them? It was a pretty spare year as commenting went. Maybe Composite Events because I actually figured that no one would read it at all? I feel like most of what I wrote flopped this year, tbh. OTZ
12. How many WIP’s do you have in your docs for next year?
...I accumulate WiPs like drifts of used tissues in allergy season. BUT I WILL BRAVE THE DRIFTS TO GO COUNT FOR YOU. XD (But I'm going to keep the list to WiPs I'm actually likely to pick at and are actually started, not just plot bunnies.)
GYADL: 8 Guardian: 7 DMBJ: 4 Les Mis: 2 Hair: 1 Teen Wolf/The 4400: 1 And other assorted odds and ends. OTZ
If I counted plot bunnies that haven't been started yet except as brainstorming sessions, then this list would be at least doubled if not more. XD
[If anyone else would like to send questions, here’s the list!]
(And here are the ones I’ve already answered: 5, 7, 8, 11, 12, 13, 16, 18, 21, 30)

alternatively, tell me about Xylha in 3 sentences :D
CAN DO!
Hydaelyn’s chosen, they call her - among other, less flattering names. Xylha Clarystella pays it little mind, preferring to focus on the battles in front of her. These days, she can’t tell if the next fight will bring her a new lovely lady friend or a lamentable liaise into her soul’s love life.

I gotta ask, can you talk about 6) Dance a bit? :D
This might be slightly disappointing for you since it's not about ACTUAL dancing xD
This is another one of my super old WIPs that's been lying around in my folder for ages but I'm too attached to it to let it go. It's basically a series of pose sketches — ten in total — of a brief scene between Steve and Tony (because I'm still a Stony shipper at heart).
There's no dialogue for it, though it's implied that they're having a conversation of some kind — one where Tony is being a flirty/snarky/annoying little shit, as per usual. And once I had finished all the sketches and kept flipping through them it just felt like they were dancing? Figuratively? But also kind of literally? So that's what I named it.
Here are the first four sketches, anyway:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I really do want to finish it. The plan isn't for it to be all that complex, tbh (like, I'll obviously only have to make the background once xD) I just haven't gotten to it. But some day I will!
Thank you so much for asking 💜

Writing Patterns
Rules: List the first line of your last 10 (posted) fics and see if there's a pattern!
Thanks for the tag @dual-domination <33 This sounds fun!
Shen Wei comes to awareness slowly. (Out of near-death - Guardian, Shen Wei-centric)
“What are you doing?” Zhao Yunlan asks. (The light of new beginnings - Guardian, Weilan)
It’s not the first time Zhao Yunlan sees the Ghost Slayer fight. (Raw - Guardian (novel-verse), Pre-canon (?) Weilan)
Almost a year passes in between the end of the Guardian promo tour and the next time they see each other. (The shared art of drowning - RPF, Zhubai)
It’s late afternoon, the sun slowly starting to creep towards the horizon. (Learning curve - Guardian, Guo Changcheng and Shen Wei-centric)
His back aches. (But pursue no regrets - DMBJ, Pangxie)
It starts, as many thing do, with a question in a group chat on a Sunday afternoon: Is professor Shen okay? (The grace of care - Guardian, Shen Wei and Jiajia-centric)
“It shouldn’t be possible,” Zhao Xinci grumbles, “and yet here we are.” (Exchange - Guardian, platonic Weilan i guess? Zyl is literally a child in this and they’re meeting for the first time idk)
Lao-Zhao’s doing it again. (Petrichor - Guardian, Weilan, Da Qing POV)
Blood isn’t hard to get off the kitchen floor. (The easy part - Guardian, Zhao Yunlan-centric)
Patterns: I like to start with shorter sentences, to quickly draw the reader in. I either start with something to introduce the setting a little bit but with a twist, or with some action. I try not to open with (too much) exposition or description, instead trying to make my first sentence immediately evoke questions: what is wrong with Shen Wei? What is he doing?? Blood on the floor??? Developing the pace and mood of the piece first, and only then delving deeper into the real setting and what is actually going on. If I can I like to put my readers on the wrong foot a little at the start: e.g. ‘exchange’ isn’t about zxc at all. The first sentence for me is all about drawing the reader in, and once I’ve got them, that is when I start explaining myself. (There are exceptions to this, where I start with the setting right away, e.g. in ‘learning curve’, but i tend to look back on those as my weaker opening lines/paragraphs :)).
Tagging: @pangzi @elenothar @lynne-monstr @mjsakurea @programmedradly @lunarriviera @the-marron @deathofsanity @hideyseek @lucientelrunya @stupid-lemon-eater @miss-ingno @aredhel-of-doylkien @thedaughterofshadows if you want to!!!

Fanfic Tag Thingie
I am choosing to be tagged by @miss-ingno because this sounded like fun and I need an escape from the realisation that I am literally on the edge of burnout and my life is a mess. So here we go! :D
How many works do you have on AO3?
76
What's your total AO3 word count?
2 237 636
... and I have around 200k more just sitting in my WIP folders. I can't write short things x'D
What fandoms do you write for?
Right now it's mainly various Kdramas (The Devil Judge, Black Knight, plus my bold venture into Strangers From Hell) but, before that, it was mostly The Losers, Marvel, Pacific Rim, and Teen Wolf. With the occasional detour here and there.
What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Who Holds the Devil (The Devil Judge, Gahan) at 3 390
Tech Support (MCU, Winteriron) at 3 217
Autonomy (MCU, Winteriron) at 3 137
I Won't Hold My Breath (MCU, Winteriron) at 2 914
Conflict of Interest (MCU, Winteriron) at 2 173
It's honestly a little wild to me that Who Holds the Devil has somehow managed to race to the top despite the other fics being at least four years older (sometimes more). And for a much bigger fandom, at that. You guys are not fucking around.
Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I do! Every single one if I can, though it can sometimes take a while before I get to all of them. And I just can't help it, I guess? Partly because I want to show that I've read the comment and appreciate the time and effort that went into writing it, but also because it often gives me an opportunity to talk about my writing and the choices I made in the fic.
And, apparently, the fact that I reply to all comments has become a bit of a thing at least when it comes to Who Holds the Devil, where readers will search through my replies looking for tidbits and extra information about the fic, characters etc.
(you guys are so weird and so dedicated and I love all of you xD)
What is a fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Grief (The Losers (Comics)). Because it is, predictably, about grief and how to keep living after someone you love has died. Though I would argue that the ending has a hint of hopefulness to it since it's also about moving on from said grief?
But yeah. Definitely that one since it's Major Character Death that I choose not to fix.
What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Literally every single fic except for the one above xD I LOVE my happy endings, okay? And it's kind of difficult to rank them since it depends a lot on the setting, characters, and the personal preference of the reader.
Heck, I even managed to give my Strangers From Hell fanfic a sugary sweet happy ending! That's dedication right there!
Do you get hate on fics?
Yeah, from time to time. I've gotten everything from childish insults calling me a bad writer to backhanded comments questioning my choices, writing style, grammar, spelling, dedication, intelligence, etc. I've even received more targeted, personal hate where people I thought I could trust were making fun of me behind my back in private chat rooms.
Most recently, though, it's less hate and more the "I simply must tell you that you're not writing this fic as I want you to write it" type of deal. Often paired with "It's my personal opinion and I have every right to express it." Which, fair enough. But that means I get to do the same, which I've noticed is something those kinds of commenters kind of hate. Especially when I point out that they've now made me a lot less keen to write the fanfic they're supposedly so fond of.
Turns out people don't like being reminded that their actions have consequences.
All in all, though, I've learned to just delete the comments I find too offensive or hateful.
Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Oh god no. Sex scenes are the bane of my existence and I spend the entire time writing them looking like this: ლ(ಥ益ಥლ)
I've been told I'm not bad at writing them (the ones in Until Death Do Us Unite were quite appreciated) but anything involving sex or sexual tension is just a nightmare for me. Even more so when it's supposed to be kinky or extra spicy.
So why is one of the main ships I write for right now clearly a Dom/sub ship, you ask?
Because I'm an idiot. That's why.
Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you've written?
I rarely do. The only crossover I've written is Resurrection where Derek Hale ends up in Purgatory together with Dean Winchester and they fight their way back to the world of the living (so Derek replaces Benny, basically).
I also have this one random fic (yet unposted) where Tony Stark and Eddie Brock are a couple (from the MCU and Venom movies, that is). But they're technically both in the Marvel universe so I'm not sure if that counts?
Long story short, crossovers aren't really my thing. I rarely write or read them.
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of, no.
Have you ever had a fic translated?
I have! Several, in fact, from various fandoms. Mostly into Russian, Spanish, or Mandarin. And I am honestly so flattered every time someone asks me if they can translate one of my fics 💜
Have you ever co-written a fic before?
I have not, no. I made plans to write a fic with a friend once, but we never got to the point of actually writing it. And, in all honesty, I think that might be just as well. I'm a perfectionist and writing a fic with me would probably be very exhausting for the other party xD
What's your all-time favourite ship?
I really don't know. Like, I'm tempted to say Jensen and Cougar from The Losers, or maybe Destiel or Stony, but I think that's partly founded in comfort and nostalgia. My ships change as I do and I really can't pinpoint an all-time favourite.
But CURRENT favourite? Definitely Kang Yo Han and Kim Ga On because they present such a wonderful challenge to someone like me, who loves to go real deep into character motivations, behaviour etc. They're a delight.
What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
I'm not sure. I plan to finish all the ones I've started posting but there might be some in my folders that I'll decide to abandon if I truly can't revive my interest in them. But, usually, I can.
And, speaking of that, to all my MCU peeps (if there are any of you still out there): I know you've waited six years for the Tech Support sequel but it's finally been written and just needs to be edited. It's coming, my darlings. I promise.
Basically, when I say I'll do something, I will do it — even if it takes me six goddamn years, apparently x'D
What are your writing strengths?
Characters, tone, and emotions. I'm good at capturing the essence of the characters and write them in a way that feels believable and close to canon. I'm also really good at making people feel things with my writing, I've been told. According to testimonials, my readers can often see what's happening play out inside their heads like a movie, and feel the characters' emotions as they're living through them.
What are your writing weaknesses?
Aside from the aforementioned sex scenes? I think it's my inability to keep things short. I use a lot of unnecessary words and could definitely get better at being more concise. In a similar vein, I sometimes focus so much on the details with lengthy, wordy descriptions that I accidentally forget about the big picture, which is understandably confusing to my readers.
Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
I've done it from time to time (since my man Cougar speaks Spanish) but I'm pretty careful with it. And if it's longer sentences I always make sure to double-check with a native speaker.
First fandom you wrote for?
Teen Wolf! Which, admittedly, was because I didn't care if I fucked it up x'D I enjoyed the first two seasons of Teen Wolf, make no mistake! But I chose it mainly because it wasn't the ship I was the most emotionally invested in and so I figured it wouldn't feel as bad if it turned out that I sucked. Luckily enough for me, I didn't xD
Favourite fic you've written?
Just like with the all-time favourite ship, I'm not sure if I can answer this one. Because I like all of my fics but in different ways.
I'll always have a fondness for that first huge Teen Wolf series I wrote, for example, and had a lot of fun with Autonomy because of the world-building. Same goes with Hyperborean. But Who Holds the Devil is definitely my favourite when it comes to character work. While Allies is my favourite when it comes to tone, since it ended up just the way I wanted it to. And Until Death Do Us Unite was an absolute BLAST because I got to write horror and some really weirdass shit, which I've never done before.
So, truly, I can't say. Each one I've written has something I cherish and while some definitely stand out more than others, I wouldn't be able to just pick one.
___
And that's that! I tag whoever wants to do it! :D

16 & 25 for Alfreyco, 12 for Mavin! :)
Alfreyco
16. Who cooks most?: I would think Alfredo would just because of all the food he's had in his background from his lola and all the times he's talked about cooking different things. They both probably prep/cook side by side but Alfredo's the leader in the kitchen.
25. Parenting style?: With what I've heard from when they talked about watching Iris that one time for Michael and Lindsay they would both be absolute helicopter parents until the baby got into at least toddler age. Like having all the corners on everything covered and making sure they always have an eye and ear out for baby and a hand to catch them should they fall. And the way Alfredo talks about having kids on Off Topic that baby would be SMOTHERED in love by those two. (omg the imagery is too cute, i can't (ㅅ´ ˘ `) )
Mavin
12. How are their communication skills?: Oh boy. Sometimes they're good sometimes they're not?? Like sometimes both Gavin and Michael can think of what's going on inside the other's brain and other times Michael will just look at Gavin and have not a clue what is going on behind those eyes. Michael is usually straightforward with what he says (unless he's teasing) whereas Gavin has to work up to what he wants to say unless Michael continuously pesters him about his thoughts.

Six Sentence Sunday!
Thanks to @rose-tinted-vision for the tag! I... actually have words for this?? Which is Very Unusual for me as I'm almost exclusively a podficcer, but you happened to catch me at the "almost" part of "almost exclusively" so here you go! Have a bit of Shen Wei character study...
He had wrapped himself in his favorite blue suit today, feeling the need for the reassurance. The color always reminded him of a bright fire and brighter smile, the sweetness on his tongue paling to the sweetness in his heart. He had clung to the color like a lifeline in the years after he had crawled free of the dirt. Clung to it like he clung to the promise that he would meet Kunlun again.
It felt odd, the way he felt the need for it again today, the need to surround himself with the familiar color. After all, Zhao Yunlan—Kunlun—was not only in his life again, he had just taken another large step towards being the Kunlun of Shen Wei's memories.
I'll tag @miss-ingno @sasamelons @guqin-and-flute @treemaidengeek and anyone else who wants to play!
