Maligned Yuri Bracket: Preliminary Round!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
How is Saeko Mizuno (Ami Mizuno's mother)/Risa Hino (Rei Hino's mother) (Sailor Moon) maligned?
"...At the start of Sailor Moon, Rei (Sailor Mars)'s mother is dead, and Ami (Sailor Mercury)'s parents are divorced. I always thought it would be interesting if Rei's mother, not getting anything out of being a trophy wife for her politician husband, began an affair with Ami's mother, who's husband never paid much attention to her...None of this is even hinted at in any version of the canon though. You do see Ami's mother a few times in canon, but she hardly gets any lines, and the most any version of canon does for Rei's mother is imply that she died from disease when Rei was young...So this has zero basis in canon, between a character who's long dead and another who's barely even a character..."
How is Ami Mizuno/Usagi Tsukino (Sailor Moon) maligned?
No explanation offered.
How is Hotaru Tomoe/Chibiusa Tsukino (Sailor Moon) maligned?
No explanation offered.

Okay so admittedly I'm kind of stumped on what kind of design to base Ken off of for the fancomic adaptation of The Cruelty of Fairness and Fate fanfiction. I'm looking through some photos of Sailor Moon side characters and I'm thinking of basing him off of this guy's design?? But older looking since he's supposed to be around Saeko/Kaya Mizuno's age. Idk though, this design looks a lot like Haruka. I'll figure it out later. But if you guys have any ideas, I'm open to take suggestions.

Saeko Mizuno (Ami's mother) always looks at Makoto as another daughter. As hard as it is for Makoto to still deal with the loss of her parents, Saeko made her feel so much better.

The Calm Before The Storm Chapter 4: Coming Out
Ami was setting the table when she heard a knock at the door.
“Ami, I think Ms. Kino is here!” She heard her mother shout from the kitchen.
“Alright, I’ve got it mom!” She replied back to her mother. She made her way to the door and opened it to reveal her green eyed lover standing in the hall with a bouquet of lilacs.
“Uh… hi.” The Guardian of Thunder said, visibly nervous despite her best efforts to hide it.
“Hey, come on in.” Ami said, leading her into the apartment. Before they got too far in, however, the bluenette whispered up to Mako, “You look nice.” Prompting a blush from the taller girl.
“Thank you. You look nice too.” She whispered back, “You ready for this?”
“Yeah, I think so. You?”
“Yeah… yeah, we’ve got this.” The green-clad girl said in a clear attempt to psych herself up. Ami was glad to see it, though. She had worried Mako would be in a much worse state.
The girls made their way to the table, where Ami’s mother, Saeko, had stepped out of the kitchen to greet her guest.
“Hello Ms. Kino, it’s a pleasure to finally meet you!” She said, warmly welcoming Mako into her home.
“Thank you for having me. And please, call me Mako.” The brunette replied, “Oh, and these are for you!” She said, handing Saeko the flowers.
“Oh, thank you dear, they’re lovely. I’m gonna go find a vase for these, could you help Ami finish setting the table? Dinner should be ready in just a few minutes.”
“Oh, of course!” Mako shot back, eager to please.
Before long, the three women had helped themselves to a portion of the rice dish which Saeko had made, and seated themselves at the table. As their apartment only housed two people, and their opportunities to eat together were rare, the table in the dining room was smaller than most. Thankfully, there was enough room for Mako, however she felt the need to be extra careful ensure her long legs did not accidentally kick one of the Mizuno women.
“Great, another thing I need to worry about.” The brunette thought to herself as she pushed her food around on her plate. She had been able to eat at a decent pace, largely motivated by her desire to not offend Ami’s mother, but the knots in her stomach kept her from being able to truly ‘dig in’.
“So, Mako.” Saeko began, instantly grasping Makoto’s undivided attention, “Do you have any plans for what you want to do after high school?”
“Oh, well, actually I’d like to go to culinary school.” She shot back honestly, before taking a minute to fully process what she had said.
“Wait, what if she thinks that’s impractical? She probably wants Ami to marry some nice boy she meets at medical school, and here I am telling her I want to be a chef?! Dammit, I’m blowing it already!” Mako thought, mentally chastising herself.
“Oh, that’s interesting.” Saeko responded, “Maybe I should’ve let you cook dinner for tonight.”
“O-oh, well I was thinking of bringing something, but Ami said not to worry. B-but I can definitely cook something next time!”
“Wait, is it too presumptuous of me to just assume that there’ll be a next time? Gah! This is worse than when Ami tried to teach me how to play chess!”
“That would be lovely.” Saeko said sincerely, “So what do you wanna do after you finish culinary school? Try to be the next world famous chef?”
“Oh, no, nothing that big. And actually I’m not even-”
“I told you, Mom, she wants to open up a bakery.” Ami said. Mako wasn’t sure if she felt rescued, or if Ami had just dug her a deeper hole.
“Oh, yes, that’s right.” Saeko said, preparing another bite of food, “To be fair, you told me that a while ago. So, is that still what you want to do, Mako?”
“Uh… well…” Mako didn’t know what to do. Should she lie and say she wasn’t that committed to it? Ami’s mother didn’t seem to mind, but what if that was just a front? Maybe if she told her the bakery was just a childish dream and that she was actually looking at other options her mother would respect her more. “Well actually…”
“No. I can’t lie. If this is gonna work she has to like me for who I am.”
“... It’s been my dream since I was a little girl.” Makoto said softly.
Saeko sprouted a small smile upon hearing this, “It’s good to have dreams. Goals to strive for. Keeps us from being complacent.” She said before taking a sip of her drink.
“I… I think I answered that right?” Makoto thought to herself before returning to her meal.
Ami had only cleared about half of her plate. The reality of what she was about to do was beginning to fully set in, which dealt a large blow to her appetite. She could tell Mako was feeling it too, as she was also eating slower than normal, but seemed to be powering through it more effectively than Ami.
“Sweetheart, are you alright?” Her mother asked, shocking her back to reality.
“What? Oh, yeah, I’m fine.” She replied.
She turned her focus back to her plate, but quickly adjusted her gaze towards Makoto. When Makoto looked back at her, Ami mouthed one simple word: “Ready?”
Makoto paused for a second, looking back down at her plate. This sent a chill through Ami. Was Mako not ready for this? Was it truly too soon? Should she have given her more time to prepare?
This cavalcade of questions was brought to a halt when Ami felt a hand atop her own. Snapping back to reality she saw that Mako had turned her attention back to her, and was delivering an affirmative nod.
“Well… now or never, I guess.”
“Actually, Mom… Mako and I have something to tell you.”
“Oh? What is it dear?”
With that, Ami stood up and prompted Mako to do the same, before taking the taller girl’s hand into her own.
“Mom… Mako and I… we’re… she’s my…” Ami stammered, not quite able to get the words out.
“I’m her girlfriend, Mrs. Mizuno.” Mako finished for her other half.
“Yeah. We’ve been dating for about two months now and… and I’m sorry for keeping it from you but I just wasn’t sure how you would react and… yeah...”
There it was. The truth was out there. Now all Ami could do was wait for a response. The silence which hung in the room was deafening. Thankfully for the Guardian of Water, however, it didn’t last long.
“Oh, so you two finally made it official? That’s wonderful!”
With this, both girls’ eyes shot up from the table and towards Ami’s mother.
“Wait… I… what?” Was all Ami could manage to say.
“I’ve known about your feelings for Mako for some time, honey.” Saeko said gently, “But, I figured you would tell me when the time was right.”
“Wow… I…”
Saeko stood up from her chair and pulled her stunned daughter into a hug.
“I love you, honey. And nothing could ever change that.” She said before releasing Ami from the hug.
“Wait, so you’re not…”
“The only thing I am, is happy for you. Okay?” Saeko said, to which Ami simply nodded in response.
“So wait…” The Mizunos heard, causing them to turn towards Mako, who had slumped back into her chair, “Was I the only one who didn’t know?!” The brunette exclaimed in disbelief, prompting a laugh from both Mizuno women.
--
Yay, good for Mako, Ami's mother approves, but... is that the full story? Guess you'll have to read next chapter to know for sure.
Please let me know what you guys think! Comments, reblogs, likes, etc. are much encouraged and greatly appreciated!
And come back next time for chapter 5.

Beach Written By: Katelyn Abbott
Author’s Summary: Ami Mizuno loved the beach.
-
Ami Mizuno loved the beach. Her father brought her to the beach when she had been a child. She came to enjoy the bright golden yellow sun in the sky, the cool ocean breeze in the air, the deep blue ocean water waves that came up to her ankles when she stepped into the water, and the gritty yellow sand beneath her feet. Ami’s father’s delighted in showing Ami the relaxation of the serenity and the tranquility of the peace that one could feel at the beach for he wanted his daughter to enjoy it just as much as he did.
Ami’s father made a big day for his daughter whenever he took her to the beach. He brought beach towels for them to sit on, a cooler full of cans of soda pop for them to drink and potato chips and sandwiches to eat while they were there, a different colored beach ball to play with, a pail and a bucket for Ami to make sandcastles with, and sunscreen to keep Ami from getting sun burn while they were there. Ami came to wear a blue bathing suit while her father wore blue swimming trunks. She did hate having to put on sun lotion for to her it took time away to her to be in the water. The water ended up calling out to her as if it were a part of who she actually was for she felt at home in the ocean.
After she had played in the water and built a big sandcastle with her father, it was time for them to collect seashells. Both would wait until the ocean waves would wash them up. It came to be a scavenger hunt between them to find the best ones they could find.
“Daddy, look at this one!” Ami would say whenever she found a good seashell and held it up for him to admire her treasure too.
“It is perfect, Ami,” he would tell her as she would drop it in the pail to take home to show her mother who rarely went with them due to work, but Saeko would admire them and tell Ami she did a good job on what beautiful seashells she had found to add to her big collection of them whenever she got home from work.
“They are beautiful, sweetheart,” Saeko would tell her. “You have a good eye when it comes to collecting seashells.”
Once her father did find a seashell that had a big hole in it. He ended up coming up with the idea to make it into a seashell necklace for Ami to wear and found a silver chain with which to put under it. Ami fell in love with it and wore it often until the divorce between her parents. Afterwards she gave up wearing it and put it in her jewelry box as while it meant something to her that her father gave her, but she could not bear to wear it anymore as it reminded her of a time when he was there for her and then he walked out of her life.

Would You Like This Manga/Anime Character to Be Your Doctor/Nurse? Sailor Moon Edition
YES:
Dr. Ami Mizuno
With an IQ of 300 and unparalleled work ethic, Ami-chan (or should I call her Mizuno-sensei?) undoubtedly passed her medical school exams with flying colors and went on to become a world-class doctor. She has a kind and loving heart that is sure to be a comfort to her patients, and a magical affinity for water doesn’t hurt either when the human body is around 60% water! I can only imagine that Dr. Mizuno would be a perfect doctor.
Dr. Saeko Mizuno
Dr. Saeko Mizuno is a hard-working doctor at Juuban Second General Hospital, though she’s better known to fans of Sailor Moon as Ami’s mother. When Mamoru falls ill due to the machinations of the Dead Moon Circus, Dr. Mizuno is the one who tends to him in the hospital. Ami must get much of her talent and passion for the medical profession from her mother.
Dr. Gia
Misa is young girl who is a patient at Juuban Second General Hospital. Because her condition is so bad, the hospital sends for a world-famous specialist from America: Dr. Gia. Despite the interference of Sailor Aluminum Siren, the surgery is a success, and Misa recovers.
NO:
Nurse Minako Aino and Nurse Usagi Tsukino
Though they have cuteness and enthusiasm on their side, Minako and Usagi simply aren’t responsible enough to be good nurses, ending up more of a nuisance than a help!
Dr. Esmeraude and Nurse Parumakon
Esmeraude places a Dark Henge in Juban University Hospital and infects the local population with a supernatural flu caused by Dark Power. Her Droid, Parumakon, attempts to hold down Chibi-Usa to forcibly administer an injection of Dark Power, but Chibi-Usa escapes with the help of Sailor Venus and the other Sailor Senshi, who destroy the Dark Henge and restore health to the city.
Palla-Palla House (Dentist of Horrors)
They might look pretty, but this dentist and hygienist are two medical practitioners you definitely don’t want to see, trapping Usagi and Chibi-Usa in their chairs while Palla-Palla prepares to extract their Dream Mirrors. Things get even worse for Usagi and Chiba-Usa when Palla-Palla summons Gari-Gari, a Lemures shaped like a giant tube of toothpaste that threatens to drill out Sailor Moon’s teeth! As Sailor Moon and Sailor Chibi Moon say, “Dentists are scary enough as it is! We can’t forgive you for making them even scarier!”
Nurse Aluminum Siren and Sailor Doctor
Nurse Aluminum Siren fits neatly into the category of “You know, I don’t believe this person actually is a registered nurse.” Once she has lured away Dr. Gia, Sailor Aluminum Siren sheds her disguise and extracts his star seed, turning him into the terrifying Phage Sailor Doctor. Luckily, Sailor Mercury won’t let anyone disrespect a hospital, especially the one where her mother works!

Let's Talk #SailorMoonEternal: The Differences
After five years, multiple production delays, a pandemic, and moving to a different streaming service, the fourth season of Sailor Moon Crystal finally came out as a two-part film under a new title.
Tumblr media
Sailor Moon Eternal is far superior to Sailor Moon SuperS.
Tumblr media
For a comparison of Sailor Moon Eternal, feel free to keep reading. There will be spoilers.
The Dead Moon Circus arc was adapted into two films instead of a fourth season of Crystal; the reasoning for this change was due to the manga arc being too short for a modern anime season. With a combined runtime of 160 minutes, the films span approximately seven TV episodes, which is around half of a modern season and shorter than some of the original anime's filler arcs.
Tumblr media
Due to how much is presented within these two films, this review will be divided into two parts. Part 1 (this post) focuses on differences with the 90s anime, while Part 2 will center on the films themselves.
Here are some of the most notable differences.
Pegasus/Helios' Debut: In SuperS, he first appeared in Chibiusa's dreams. In Eternal, he first appeared to her, Mamoru and Usagi during the eclipse. This worked in both productions due to their context. On SuperS, it set up a mystery, while on Eternal, it was to avoid such mystery.
PallaPalla's Age Swap: In SuperS, she did it to resolve Usagi and Chibiusa's argument about age. In Eternal, she did it to distract them from their plans. This was better presented on SuperS, as it led to some internal conflicts for Chibiusa. In both versions, however, it was pointless.
Luna's Eyes: In both the original and Crystal, her eyes were red. In Eternal, they were now blue. The change was made for her human transformation, since her eyes were originally blue in the manga.
Hotaru's Reawakening: In Stars, Nehellenia's return caused Hotaru to become Saturn again. In Eternal, the eclipse causes her to rapidly age and regain her past memories. Both connected her reawakening to Nehellenia, but it made more sense in Eternal due to the eclipse disabling their powers.
Sailor Moon's Eternal Upgrade: In Stars, Saturn inexplicably orders everyone to give Sailor Moon energy. In Eternal, she naturally acquires the power from the combined full strength of her Guardians and Silver Crystal. It made more sense in Eternal due to the upgrade being justified, whereas on Stars it happened because merchandising reasons.
The Golden Crystal: In SuperS, it was possessed by Helios. In Eternal, it was Endymion's equivalent to Serenity's Silver Crystal. It made no sense in SuperS why Helios would have the item, and it would lead to a plot hole in Stars where Mamoru's Star Seed was Gold despite never possessing the Crystal.
Nehellenia's Fate: In Stars, Sailor Moon sent her back in time to relive her childhood. In Eternal, she outright kills her.
When it comes to Nehellenia, her backstory was drastically altered for SuperS. She became a friendless loser who thought she looked ugly and wanted to destroy Serenity because reasons. Eternal, on the other hand, basically turned her into Maleficent.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The films revealed that Nehellenia and Serenity met once before, when the latter was a newborn baby and the former cursed the Silver Millennium to its downfall. It presents a huge retcon, basically stating everything that had happened over on Crystal was all her fault.
Tumblr media
However, it did turn her into a threat on the same level as Wiseman and Pharaoh 90, as opposed to the joke she was on the original anime. Her only flaw was how she apparently also wanted Endymion, which felt like a retread of Beryl's obsession.
Tumblr media
The films also featured the animated debut of Ami's mother, a character who previously only appeared in the manga and the live action Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon. Rei's grandfather also appeared, albeit with a redesign. In the original, he was short and bald. In Eternal, he was tall with a full head of hair and a mustache that made him look like either Colonel Sanders or Sam Elliott.
Tumblr media
Both the Amazon Trio and Quartet make appearances, with their roles being reversed. The Trio were subservient to the Quartet and killed by the Inner Guardians, similar to the Spectre Sisters from the second season of Crystal.
