reminder to (if you can!) braid your hair today; the Rising Hearts organisation have asked for everybody who can braid their hair to do so today for Cole Brings Plenty. a young native American man who was found murdered with his hair cut in a hate crime. on their Instagram, Rising Hearts stated:
Tumblr media
On Monday, April 8th, wear your braids. Show your braids. Indigenous or not, wear a braid, wear 2 braids, wear many. We wear braids as a community for Cole Brings Plenty and his family. For all indigenous peoples with braids. For the many, past and present, whose braids were cut and attacked. If you don't have hair to braid, share others posts or this post on Monday. Tag @rising_hearts #BraidsForCole
Our hair is sacred. Braids are sacred. Connects us to our ancestors, to community, to ceremony.
Cole Brings Plenty, 27, Lakota, actor (Yellowstone spinoff 1923, and more), family member, and student, was taken from Unči Maka 🌍 too soon. An indigenous relative was taken.
Join Rising Hearts on Monday as we honor Cole's life by braiding our hair in his memory, for all the sacred hair and braids in our communities. Lay some tobacco down. Send up your prayers.
We send our love and support to the Brings Plenty family and his communities. This is a tragic and heartbreaking loss. Justice for Cole. 🤎🪶

This has been on my heart for a long time now, and I finally put (some of) my thoughts down in writing. This led to a lot of statistical analysis and research, which led to this article. Painful process, painful truths. First Nations people are encouraged to read at their own discretion, given the sensitive content. (yes, it's very different to the theme/content of the two other posts in my substack, but I didn't know where else to put it all.)

Hey, fun fact! See this young man? He was found dead in a forest. They chopped his hair off while he was intoxicated and tossed him in a forest. He was murdered. The media says there was "no foul play" surrounding his death, too. His name was Cole Brings Plenty, and he was murdered at age 27. Murdered. Stop covering it up. Stop lying to protect the people involved. They killed him.

For those of you who don’t know, Cole Brings Plenty, was missing last week & they recently found his body in the woods. (the investigation is still on going but this is what I gathered/read as of today) His Uncle Moe Brings Plenty stars in Yellowstone & Cole was in Yellowstone’s prequel 1923. I hope Cole and his family gets the justice they deserve. Prayers go out to his family & all of the Missing Murder Indigenous People .🤎🪶🫶🏼

For MMIWG2S awareness to action week we have compiled a document to inform readers about the ongoing genocide of Indigenous people across the globe and ways you can take action and say enough is enough. The document also contains resources for Indigenous people at risk of or experiencing intimate partner violence as well as toolkits for what to do when a Native woman goes missing in your community.
You can read it here

I'm going to use my platform here for something unrelated to the Lost Boys for a moment—something more important. The death of Cole Brings Plenty has torn me. I can't seem to wrap my head around it. I can't imagine a world without him. So, I'm hoping to raise awareness by spreading the word about the MMIP. His family is now in a fight to find out what happened, and I really hope and pray that they do. #JusticeForCole #JusticeForCoco

Cole Brings Plenty’s death was said to show “no signs of foul play”, ruled as a suicide, and the case was closed. I’ve seen from several sources they also tried to say it was a cardiac event. Alexis Zabala openly admitted to having something to do with his disappearance in a Facebook comment section. Her own cousin went to the police and they brushed her off and kept diverting to the DV allegations against Cole. Stand with us in demanding a thorough investigation and share this petition!!

I was about to be his biggest fan..I am heartbroken…Cole Brings Plenty was not only beautiful on the outside, but just as beautiful on the inside…He was so extremely important..We need more people in our generation (I’m 33) who are revitalizing and rediscovering their culture and heritage. Cole Brings Plenty set an example for those of us with indigenous blood. I will never forget him. Long Live Cole Brings Plenty. You’ll always have my heart ❤️🪶💔

I’m wearing braids today for Cole Brings Plenty and the Brings Plenty family, who have suffered a terrible loss. Cole Brings Plenty was murdered and his braids cut off. Today we wear braids to show solidarity with the Brings Plenty family and the indigenous peoples of the world - who have faced far too much violence and oppression. We see you, we stand with you.
Rest in power, Cole.

Braids for Cole!
Cole Brings Plenty, a Native American, had his hair cut off shorty before he was found dead in the woods. We braid our hair in his memory, as a tribute. I have the choice to cut my hair, he did not. I have the choice to go to powwows. He can no longer. I have the ability to share my heritage with others. He can no longer. Now, we shall do it for him. Justice for Cole.
Stop MMIP. Rest in power to Cole Brings Plenty.
