"An Unfortunate Encounter"

[1/2] Accidental Meeting

Aaggghhhh so this is a fic ft. My Narrator and @callixspod 's Narrator who are both named Devin and Nathan respectively. Since I lack the energy to draw multiple panels of dynamic fighting poses, I'd decided to write it out instead into a fic. The fic's gonna be devided into two parts + 1 epilogue. No warnings for this first part, so please forgive my writing as this is my first time publishing a fic anywhere and I hope you enjoy

"Alright, Stanley, well done!" Nathaniel cheered for his Stanley from the intercom. He looks at one of the monitors where his Stanley is in. He could see him looking up at the camera and giving him a thumbs up. "Good job at getting that figurine!" The two were testing out a newly placed stanlurine? Figley? Whatever the fuck you call them that Nathan had placed. It was put in a somewhat of a new area. To be honest, the Narrator just took some old assets of the game and recycled it for this "new" area.

"Stand there, I'll be right with you in abit" With a smile, Nathan gets up from his seat and makes his way to the exit door of his control room. So you know that feeling when you stepped off a lower step that you didn't expect to be there so you just experience that mini heartattack because you feel like you're falling? Yeah, Nathan was experiencing that. He froze in front of that doorframe for probably a solid minute, though he isn't sure why. Normally he'd just resume his way, but something feels different. Something doesn't feel right. He looks around, feeling confused. He then turned to where his control room was behind him. And it was... the broom closet? How did that happen? He should get back into his own Parable, Stanley's gonna be worried why he suddenly disappeared for no reason.

"Honestly, Stanley. Why do you hate the blue door so much?"

A voice. Nathan whipped his head towards the source of it. That wasn't just anyone's voice, that voice was similar to his! The confused statement echoed through the hallway he was in. Though he was caught off-guard by this sudden no-clipping from his own parable, he was going to ask for help in getting out of here. Surely this other Narrator would kindly give him directions, right? What could go wrong?

"Really Stanley, does the color blue give you a bad vibe???" The Narrator asked confusedly. He had been rambling for who knows how long now. Stanley folds his arms, rolled his eyes, and rudely looks away. Oh he's being a prick on purpose again. "There's multiple other objects with the same color! And yet you chose to hate this one particular do—" The Narrator paused his narration as Stanley puts a hand up againts his own that has an eye on it. "I- Really Stanley?!" He sounded offended. "How could you interrupt me while I was in the middle of my sentence?! Stanley, I—"

[Do you hear that?] Stanley asked. "Hear? Hear what?" Devin went silent and enhances his hearing sensitivity through the control room. "Is... is that-" [Footsteps?] They continued each other's sentences. Devin panicked and this time Stanley was confused. Was this another foreign anomaly? "Stanley, hold on" and with that, a pair of neon yellow hand started to appear and summoned a door where Devin stepped out.

"Stanley, who is-" And there he was. An individual coming through the blue door, with bright and dark skin, the two colors clashing on this stranger's face. The two stared at him wide-eyed as the stranger looked at them, equally baffled.

Nathan felt awkward by this odd first encounter. No one had really been this shocked at seeing him. He tries to start a conversation to ease things down "Why the shocked face-" Devin pushed Stanley behind him. A set of two big orange hands appeared between Devin and Stanley, both hands were aimed at Nathan with what seemed like charged beams on each finger tips "Who are you" Devin asked menacingly. His eyes looked as if they were burning with anger already, yet there was a very subtle hint of anxiety.

"Woah there!" Nathan puts both his hands in front of him. "There no need to fight! I'm just here to ask directions!" He explained frantically. "Tch. Yeah right" Devin sneered. "I don't know how you passed my security, but I'll handle you myself regardless" His eyes grew more hatred by the second as he glares at Nathan. "Move away, Stanley!" Devin turned his head back for a moment to look his Stanley. As Stanley stepped back, he could feel himself immediately getting clamped up by a new set of hands that carried him away quickly. Devin then snapped back towards this stranger.

"A FOREIGN ENTITY SUCH AS YOU!" The hands flexed.

"Should not be in my Parable."

Why are so many western fans spelling Mob’s name as “Mobbu”

Even in the Japanese version his name is Mob you just can’t end a word on a hard B consonant like that in Japanese as all words end in a vowel sound or an N.

It isn’t even a proper romaji transliteration. His name is モブ in Japanese, not モッブ. It would have to be the latter to be “Mobbu” in romaji, if you wanted to transliterate the katakana for his nickname it would be “Mobu” or “Mob” depending on how you want to go about the transliteration. Most Japanese speakers would just write it as Mob when using alphabet letters.

It’s perhaps a weird pet peeve, but to me it just reads as people using “engrish” and comes off as more of a mockery than trying to actually stay true to the original imo. You don’t see people calling Edward Elric “Edowarudo Eriku”. It’s just a weird thing to do.

and yes, mob Does grow to recognize tome as a friend instead of a stranger! it's a bit of a weird dynamic at first, bc when tome meets ritsu, the boys r separated. ritsu is adamant that zombie mob isnt violent, but tome begs to differ...

when tome led mob away from ritsu so she could get him back to the settlement, she ended up tying him to a random utility pole w rope from ritsu's bag she totally rifled through. in any other circumstance she'd prolly just let the patrol guards kill him, but mob is the one that got her attention and Led her to a sick ritsu, and she finds that they're traveling together.. (their labeled water bottles in ritsu's bag is the biggest sign; saliva can infect u so ritsu has to be careful abt not drinking after mob) this zombie is Behaving Strangely and tome is too curious abt this wack ass setup they've got goin to just,, let this zombie die or wander off. the only method she has of keeping him in one place is to tie him somewhere :/

zombie mob doesnt seem to rly care at first, he's just worried abt ritsu, but then when tome doesnt come back for a bit ??? the next morning when she returns (with food and water for him !) he is vicious toward her. he cant do anything tied up like he is, but he's constantly snapping his teeth at her, hissing and spitting and snarling, and trying to wiggle free

all that mob knows if that he tried to get help from this girl, ritsu is gone now, and he's tied to a pole. that pisses him off and all his addled brain can rly process is that ritsu is In Danger somewhere he cant get to. and in tome's perspective, this strange kid she saved has been traveling with a fucking demon, but somehow isnt infected.they checked. he's miraculously not

when ritsu is well enough to hold a convo, tome tells him she has his zombie friend safe somewhere, bc even in his delirium ritsu was mumbling abt his brother (tome voice ah! they're brothers... inchresting i see the resemblance if i remove the horrid eyebags from mob's face). ritsu says mob is an extremely docile zombie by default. tome says he's literally one of the most vicious ones she's ever seen. neither of them believe each other and ritsu is convinced she has the wrong zombie and that mob is still out there somewhere, wandering the settlement grounds just Asking for a patrol to kill him

when ritsu is better, she sneaks him outta the settlement to see his brother. as soon as tome comes around the corner of mob's sad little Utility Pole home he gets riled up and starts snarling, but when another figure follows behind her, he Instantly settles. he sees ritsu's face, still a bit pale but otherwise alive, and every alarm bell in mob's head is cleared and he relaxes like a switch in him was flipped

ritsu saw that viciousness for a split second tho, and is Shocked by it. nevertheless ritsu is so relieved he's okay, so he basically rushes at mob and envelopes him in a Hug and tome watches this, kinda stunned. the way his brother instantly settles in the hold ?? maybe ritsu Was right, in his eyes... maybe being around ritsu just calms mob down, so ritsu's only seen his tame side

tome joins the gang after that (her joining might seem strange, given she hasnt much of a motive, but trust me, for tome, getting to study this enigma of a dynamic is basically her dream. also she has a backstory that motivates her more but im not getting into that now). and it's very odd how mob seems to,,, be largely ok w her now ?

she thought it'd be difficult, given his obvious hatred of her after their first meeting, but it seems that her eventually bringing back ritsu erased most of the distrust there. he's typically pretty cool w her around; the only times he gets testy is when she shoves ritsu around when they're bullying each other. after all this time of walking w a gentle ritsu alone, mob doesnt rly know the difference between fun roughhousing and actually hurting each other, so he typically growls at her lowly until she stops

later on in the journey, he shows genuine trust in tome, particularly after moments where she saves him or ritsu from getting shot. and way later on, when tome is in trouble, mob even attacks another zombie to keep them away from her

eventually he sees her as part of the gang, and tome sees him as less of a Vicious Monster and more of what he actually is; somebody's brother that is sick, and is one of the only zombies in existence that is actually being taken care of and accommodated for

2022 Retrospective: TV-Shows/Movies

I didn’t really watch any anime this year, so I took all the anime categories out of this retrospective, because I can’t just talk about Spy x Family and Chainsaw Man. So, instead, here are the 2022 shows/movies I watched quickly reviewed.

Zettai BL Naru Sekai vs Sekai BL Narutakunai ni Otoko/The Man Who Defies the World of BL Season 2

This show still is hilarious. I mean, sure, I was hoping for a bit more romance between Mobu and Kikuchi, because they are adorable, and I ship them so hard. But what we got was still good. The last episode of this season had me rolling in laughter and tears. The confession-scene in this show is one of my favourite BL scenes as of now and I rewatch it regularly. Now I only need a season 3 with some actual romance for Mobu and Kikuchi. Come on, don’t leave me hanging, please.

KinnPorsche the Series

Well, this is the big one. Mannner of Death walked, so that this show could run. Some of the scenes in this show are seriously close to pornographic. I still really enjoyed the show, though there were some moments where I thought that it dropped the plot. Mile and Apo are really great together though, so that doesn’t really matter. The fanfictions of this show are really great, and I hope to add some of my own in this new year (most likely not…). Though one thing that is a massive turn off for me is how the fandom baby meow meows Vegas and shits on Kinn. Like, why is there a “Kinn Apologist” tag? Do I really need to apologise for liking a fictional character who is supposed to be morally grey? No, I will not. Kinn is my favourite character, there, I said it. This show also has Jeff Satur in it which is always a plus. And this is also probably just the Ingredients fan in me talking, but wasn’t Gameplay supposed to play Porchay? Why isn’t he? I mean, Barcode is great as Porchay, but he and Jeff by far don’t have the same chemistry that Jeff and Gameplay have.

Old Fashioned Cupcake

Yeah, I think this is my favourite show of the year. The writing is amazing, the acting is fantastic, and the characters are great. The only problem I can see, is that there are only five episodes of this wholesome show. It tells you that even if you’re nearing 40 (which is apparently already considered old) you can always find yourself and that it’s never too late. Kouhei Takeda is absolutely stellar in this show. Funny thing about that is that I watched Kamen Rider Build in 2021, after watching Zettai BL 1 and now three of the main riders have starred in BL Shows and I can’t believe it’s a coincidence anymore.

Kei x Yaku

Another BL with Atushiro Inukai, who is on his steady way to become one of my favourite Japanese actors. It’s a mafia drama bromance, leaning more towards the mafia drama than the bromance. It’s basically Kinnporsche, but with more political intrigue and no porn. Well… on screen at least.

The Umbrella Academy Season 3

This whole season could have been solved in one episode if there were some communication. That’s the most I can say about the story. It’s good. I really liked this season. I really liked the Sparrows. Sloane is a cool character and I really liked Sparrow!Ben. He just such a petty gay throughout the entire season and I love it. The rest of the Sparrows were cool, though I would have loved to get some more development for them and not just meet them for three episodes. I’m really looking forward to the final season coming this year.

Sandman

Yes, this show is amazing, what else can I tell you? The characters are great, the writing is great, it’s a good adaption that uses it’s medium to its fullest. I mean, it’s written by Neil Gaiman, what more can we want, am I right?

Wednesday

Maybe Tim Burton is getting back on track. At least somewhat. There are parts of this show I really enjoy. Jenna Ortega is amazing as Wednesday and seeing her energy clash with Enid’s is one of the highlights of this show. They are cute and I ship them, and they should have been together, mostly because the rest of her love interests are boring guys. I really can’t imagine Wednesday with any guy. Or girl for that matter. I always thought she was Ace. But yeah, make them lesbians, Netflix. I also really like the aesthetic of this show. Though there is one aspect that I just can’t get behind: The rest of the Addams Family. Morticia as a character is fine, though she should have been played by Christina Ricci, it would have been a great nod. My problem mainly lies with Gomez. And no, it’s not because he’s not conventionally attractive. He’s just so slimy and pathetic and that’s not Gomez at all. He needs to be charming. Also, the Addams are not bad parents.

Usogui

I watched this movie on a 14-hour plane ride from Costa Rica back home, when I was unable to sleep. And for what it was, I really enjoyed it. When I got home, I googled the movie and found out it was a live action adaption of a manga. It didn’t dim my enjoyment. I watched the movie again with my sister just for this review and I have to say: For what it is, it’s not bad. It does condense about 100 chapters into two hours, so a lot of stuff gets lost. But, and this is something I can always kind off appreciate about Live Action Adaptions (except Death Note): Most of the time, they get you interested in the source material. I started reading the manga after watching the movie and I do not regret it. The manga is absolutely fantastic. Madarame Baku is one of my new favourite characters. And Ryusei Yokohama is a great actor to play him.

New Narrator of the Parable

Part 3: Put to the Test

It has been over a week now, Devin showed no signs of getting up. The Parable was showing signs of deterioration due to the lack of story happening. There was no one else who can operate the Parable out of the two than Agus. He had already recieved guidance from Devin and, despite his lack of experience, has the ability to control the Parable. So, in their desparate need, Agus took up the spot as the momentary Narrator of the Parable.

Things... had a rough start at first. All this time Agus had been training to take a hold of the Parable under Devin's supervision and assistance, but this time, he's all on his own. Under his control in the beginning, the Parable was experiencing many errors and glitches. Furnitures were phasing into the walls, the story didn't make much sense, and William (Stanley) kept clipping through the floor. Needless to say, he didn't had a good head start.

Though he was barely keeping it together all the time, Agus made a promise to himself that he will do his best to maintain the Parable. The young man was stubborn and refuses to back down, inspite of the failures. Agus will do this while the original Narrator is absent. He will endure all the failures for William, he will endure this for Devin...

...

Several months passed by, and still, no signs of the original Narrator waking up. Agus was getting a hand of his new role now. His stern belief that Devin would wake up someday did not leave his mind. He has to wake up someday, he has to. At this point, Agus has made noticible changes to himself, it was as if he was trying to mske himself look similar to Devin. He took up his appearance to feel more confident in his role. Him and William has had a tough time with Devin's absence, but both hung on to each other and be there for one another.

Agus' skills were improving as the months passed by. Though it still wasn't perfect, it was far better than how he did a few months back. He will keep to his words for however long as possible. Agus was working on his next story when his tante, Nara (belongs to @tsuru-yasunaga ), came in to announce that Devin was finally awake.

He dropped everything that he was doing and came dashing in towards the room where Devin was resting in all this time. He turned from the doorway, and saw Devin sat up with William already beside him. He was tempted to run, yet he simply calmly walks towards him instead, before immediately embracing the original Narrator in a tight hug. He was holding back tears, yet some managed to leak out of his eyes.

It would be over a week before Devin made full recovery. He experienced throbbing migraines after he woke up, much movements would only stings his brain. During this time, Devin acted differently than how he used to. He's more calm, relaxed, and warm. He smiled more often and at some points even laughed. Had the shock from a few months ago changed him this way? However, when asked if he was fine, he was, he really was. It was as if his mental state had rapidly improved over the last few months.

When he finally made his full recovery, Devin was ready to take up his role as the Narrator again. However, Agus stepped in and insisted that he takes up the new role. He very shyly and awkwardly admitted that he should be the one taking over because he wants Devin to take a well-deserved break. And, well, after some talking, they eventually settled on the agreement. Agus becomes the new Narrator of the Parable, and Devin would step down from his position and retire.
