When you think of New Orleans, one of the first things that jumps to mind is the food. And when you think of New Orleans food, one of the first things that jumps to mind are beignets. And when you think of beignets, one of the first things that you think of is Cafe Du Monde. While this legendary coffee shop has several locations throughout New Orleans, what most people think of is the original coffee stand at the French Market - and until recently, that location was open 24 hours a day.
Now, anytime you have a place open that late, interesting things are going to happen. Late night patrons have reported seeing all manner of strange things come crawling out of the river. But the most common story associated with late night at the Cafe Du Monde starts normally enough - a friendly waiter comes and takes your order, then heads to the back of the house. And never returns. After waiting for some time, you get up to find him, but he’s nowhere to be found. Finally, you ask another staff member, only to find out that nobody that fits the description of your waiter works there. It seems that you’ve given your order to a Cafe Du Monde waiter who is still on duty decades after he died, and that you really have been “ghosted.”
And now I want a beignet, darn it!

One of my favorite genres of women in media is well dressed menace. Elegant nosy bitch. Dilettante in your area barrelling towards you at breakneck speed to cause only problems

One Dress a Day Challenge
February: Orange Redux
Ms. Fisher's Modern Murder Mysteries (s2 e3, "Blood Wedding") / Geraldine Hakewill as Peregrine Fisher
This dress has very simple lines, allowing the patterned material to take center stage. The fabric has hints of yellow, red, and even purple in its design. Her belt is made of clear orange plastic loops with a tab ornament dangling from a gold chain. With the dress, she wears gold jewelry (ring, earrings, bracelet, and watch) and beige slip-on shoes.

My MFMM Calendars 2022 – June
This is the first time I chose a still from Ms Fisher’s MODern Murder Mysteries for my custom-made calendar (to the right). Like her Aunt Phryne, Peregrine Fisher did not let technicality hinder her investigations. Here I included a quote from Peregrine in S1, “There are rules, and there are those who broke them”, which echoed the exchange between Lord Lofthouse and Phryne in The Crypt of Tears: “She has no respect for the rules.” “That’s because they tend to be written by men”. If you have not gotten acquainted with Peregrine, Steed, Birdie, Samuel, and Violetta, you are definitely missing out!
The calendar to the left is another young lady who was as brave as Phryne – Shirin Abbas in The Crypt of Tears. No one believed her story of her entire tribe being slaughtered by the British soldiers, and she was imprisoned for being “an agitator” as a result, but she refused to be silenced. With Phryne’s help, she eventually uncovered the truth and restored her tribe’s legacy. Ma'a as-salaama, Shirin. May you be accompanied with safety and peace from here on.
********************
p.s. I made these calendars for my personal viewing pleasure only, and they are not for sale.

Okay so I'm really, really late to this party but I just spent the last two days binging Ms Fisher's Modern Murder Mysteries and I liked it a lot. It isn't up to the same standard as the original show but it's an easy watch, entertaining, and a lot of fun. Plus James and Peregrine are very cute and I like that their relationship is their own, and not a rehash of Jack and Phryne's.

Have you watched or intend to watch this?
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ms_Fisher%27s_Modern_Murder_Mysteries
Short answer: no and probably not, but I wouldn't rule it out.
Slightly longer answer: I loved the original show but generally have no real desire to watch the spin-off. I might give it a go one day if I'm feeling particularly bored, but it was the characters and setting that drew me into MFMM in the first place and without either of them I'm afraid I don't have too much interest in continuing to explore that world. That being said I'm still a sucker for period murder mystery dramas, so never say never.

I always had the feeling that Ms Fishers mordern murder mysteries was not as feministic as MFMM
Like, sure it is still feministic but it seems so modern. While women in the 60s also had to fight against a LOT of prejudges. It is like... the authors wrote MFMMM in a world that gets more equal every day and hence forgot the feministic plot a tiny bit
While MFMM is already a few years older where a feminitic crime show was still special... it is still is not but not SO special anymore
Does anyone gets my point here?

The history of fandom and feminism has long been intertwined. In this session, we’ll review the history from the earliest fan conventions and fanzines of the 1960s to modern fan fiction and the complex relationshiop between women, fandom, and sexual expression.

The themes of various Commonwealth mystery shows
Agatha Christie's Poirot: The British upper crust deserves a swift beheading at the crest of a proletarian revolution; also the most important thing is a precise moustache.
Vera: Murder reveals secrets that destroy families
Midsomer Murders: Horrible people kill horrible people; also, adoption ruins lives, for some reason
Death in Paradise: A formulaic moment of epiphany reveals all
Beyond Paradise: Death in Paradise is very popular; also, low stakes crime is just as quirky; also, don't base your relationship on reproductive compatibility
Father Brown: Never consult your local pastor for investigative advice, even though he's always right; lip service to moral depth resolves any lingering doubts
Sister Boniface Mysteries: What if Father Brown but always consult your local genius nun for investigative help instead
Brokenwood Mysteries: Midsomer Murders is very popular, but instead of being horrible, we're quirky! Also Frodo is there for some reason
My Life Is Murder: As long as you act confident enough and are also Xena, nobody stops you from interfering even though you're not technically a cop; also the difference between Australia and New Zealand is less than you think
Mr and Mrs Murder: When in doubt, try breaking and entering
Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries: Fabulous clothing and feminism are the answer to any question
Ms. Fisher's Modern Mysteries: Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries was very popular
Sherlock Holmes (Jeremy Brett series): Sherlock Holmes may have been the first great detective, but the Golden Age of detective fiction was a quarter century later, and it shows
Maigret (Rowan Atkinson series): Maigret is lawful good and finds injustice personally abhorrent

One Dress a Day Challenge
Black and White October
Ms. Fisher's Modern Murder Mysteries ("Come Die with Me") / Geraldine Hakewill as Peregrine Fisher
Peregrine wears this dress to an event she's feeling conflicted about. I suspect the black-and-white dress may be a bit symbolic!
