it took me a long time, but i’m finally announcing my book! This was my thesis project in college and I’m pretty proud of it. Then, all of a sudden, YouTube recommended the Jorah/Daenerys pairing in my recommendations (I kid you not) and in a matter of hours, I became obsessed. I started seeking out fanvideos, gleaning plot info bit by bit, and it just made me ship them harder (again, I hardly have any GoT knowledge whatsoever - just a basic understanding of the show's premise and so forth). Being a fanfic writer myself, I turned to A03 for consolation and found your fic, Jamais T'oublier. In a word, your writing for this pairing is beautiful. Alex loped back to her from the tree line, jaws parted in a canine grin.

"Yes, yes," she agreed. "You're protecting the property. Now stay outside the circle, I don't need any more complications with your curse."

Alex settled down obediently outside the chalk circle, gaze fixed on Cass.

Cass breathed in deep, fresh cool air faintly sweet. One more glance at the wolf was all she allowed herself before she focused on the spell in front of her. There was no room for error with this.

Although, if she ended up showing off a little for her captive audience... Well. No one needed to know.

Here’s the thing: Max knows when someone’s bullshitting her.

It’s a skill she picked up from her biological father, part of his bail-bondsman tool set. Look for certain clues, certain tells. Everyone has one, even when they think they don’t. A twitch in the eye. A nose-rub. Something unconscious that people do. It always gives them away.

Which is how Max knows that her roommate is hiding something from her.

Nancy’s tell is methodical, she’s used to withholding information. Lying by omission. Or faking a casual airiness. It’s why Nancy can’t beat her at poker, Max sees right through her bluff every. single. time.

Max pushes her frames up as they slide down her nose, resting her elbows on the counter, leaning over it, watching as Nancy puts a dish away.

“So,” she starts, as innocently as she can. “Why do you think the Spider-Woman disappeared?”

Nancy doesn’t turn around. She shrugs, focusing real hard on drying the next dish. Max has to hand it to her, she’s good at thinking on her feet. “I don’t know,” she says, annoyance creeping in her voice. “Maybe she just got tired? Superheroes get tired, don’t they?” She turns back around, smile tight and face scrunched, and it’s the same look Nancy gets when her parents call asking how she is, and Nancy puts on the tight smile and replies, “Fine, mom.”

The same one she gets when she’s lying.

Bingo.
