Some thoughts and tips on my last Gamefy rental, Giraffe and Annika.

I like the adventure-feel of this; exploring the island, and gradually discovering secrets in it, including some hidden areas, and unlocking new parts of it as you get keys.

There are 30 collectable pictures called Meowsterpieces scattered in chests around the island, and by collecting them and bringing them to the Spook Gallery gets you a few rewards, one of which you need(the Railway Ticket), while the others are alternate outfits. Make sure to get all of them and their rewards before finishing the last dungeon, since doing that sends you right to the ending.

Another set of collectables you can look for is the glowing scraps of paper. You’ll need all of these, and the item they lead to, for the better ending, and NEED to get all of the above before doing the Goddess Dance, otherwise you’ll be locked out of it. One scrap’s location is slightly off: it’s said by an NPC to be behind a waterfall, but it’s in the nearby pond.

A few events are time-sensitive, but you can pass time faster by sleeping in any bed you find, letting you pick to ‘sleep until morning/night’.

Be careful around cliffs and water early on; Annika can’t swim very well, or very long, and can only get out if the shore or a pier is low enough(and is kind of finnicky about letting you get up, sometimes). Once you finish the Ocean Dungeon, she can swim for much longer. If you collect enough of the Meowsterpieces, you can get the Swimsuit for Annika, which lets her swim much faster(and is actually the only alternate outfit with an additional effect). The Ocean Dungeon can feel like one giant death trap until you get the ability to swim better.

The five dungeons get progressively more difficult, but are fairly simply to navigate, with some puzzles in them, and side paths just leading to hidden Meowsterpieces to collect. You’ll need to return to the first three to collect more once you get more of the Keys or abilities(I’m not sure if you can go back to the fourth). 

While some of the model’s animations are a bit basic and janky(probably why they have story told more through the nice-looking comic cutscenes), the dancing animations are pretty well done, especially Annika’s during the Goddess Dance.

After you finish the game, you can redo the Boss Beats from the title screen, if you want to.

Though it’s fairly easy(for me) and short, I really enjoyed this. It’s very charming, and has some good emotional moments. The Boss battles were fun, with pretty catchy music, and I wish there were more. The ending theme, ‘Lead to Eternity’ is very good and nice to listen to, and really adds onto the emotion of the ending(wish I had the lyrics, though). Here’s the full version, though the video has the credits sequence, so scroll down if you just want to listen to it(I couldn’t find the song by itself). I think I’ll end up buying this to support it’s devs at some point.

This and Destiny Connect are two recent games that come to mind right away as some I’d think would be good for younger players. Easy to figure out, not too difficult(aside from Hard Mode versions of Boss Beats), and so on.

Next game being sent is: Judgment.

...only just noticed, but seems I missed some news in August about the game coming to the Xbox One as well. Whoops. ^^;

That ShiShi is turning into one crazy good chef – her turkey pie yesterday was a meowsterpiece!  I think it’s gone to her head, though – do you know that she invited me to play with her - again?  My world has been turning upside down with these wild changes she’s had going on since meowma moved our house all around (to rehabilitate my behavior – ha!)
