Shoutout to the Family fanfic wriiten by my buddy @aroseandacross.

It's so cute and wholesome and that last chapter touches my heart- Don't want to give spoilers but NNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGHHHHH! Those mental pictures of the family and all the regret he feels 🥺

We need more fics with the thing that happens at the two last chapters. I'm writing one but I need well-written fics, not mine-

This fic has such a good representation of Samekichi and Sal's relationship and their mind. Almost no one pictures my salmon boy like he actually is inside, and I hate it. He could be redeemed!

Though, there's some things that bother me a little (forgive me Rose I really do love this fanfic-).

Lots of misteries aren't explained, like Sal being alive and the Sea of Death still existing with a dungeon on it (I could write a sequel of the fic with my version of the explanation lmao), and the shark bros were kinda out of character.

Kichi being all rude to Sal after he felt so guilty of his death and him calling Sal by his nickname (he always avoids saying it in the game), while Sal hating Kichi just makes his last words in the Reboot feel flat and unimportant? Guess all those years alone with his broken mind made him go one step back. He also got a lot more mentally sick lmao. Though in the manga he is kinda like that. But Jesus that fight scene with Kichi and the Wadda scene-

And the year/time system in the DSPverse sn't human-style. "7 years after" would be like "7 months after". Minami is younger than 100 but certainly 5 years old is too little.

Here's why I think Caleb and Philip Wittebane can act out at least much of the story of Samekichi and Sal:

Samekichi and Sal were close to each other during childhood, but ever since witnessing their depressed mother's suicide, Sal grew wistful and distant. Sal disappeared without a trace one day, leaving his brother and aunt in tears with Samekichi vowing to bring him back.

After becoming Wadanohara's familiar, Samekichi had a shocking reunion with Sal who acted as if he were a stranger. Wadanohara and Samekichi became lovers but Sal's schemes drove a wedge between them as her other familiars think Samekichi has betrayed the Sea Kingdom. After the Sea Kingdom reconciles with the Totsusa Kingdom, Sal reveals himself as the real traitor and the Ambassador of the Sea of Death, a hellish realm of jealousy and anger ruled by Princess Mikotsu.

Samekichi, blaming himself for having let Sal spiral downwards, pleads with Sal to go home together, using his real name. Sal pauses with his pupils shrinking, but he reverts to his villainous self upon realizing that he hates himself and it makes him hate his brother as well.

Wadanohara arrives, asking Sal why he does terrible things. Sal remembers his mother's death but refuses to tell her, angrily proclaiming a hatred of the sea. Sal suddenly goes wistful and says he could've wished for her happiness if things were different, making the young witch pause. Sal stabs her with the sacred sword, saying he loves her pure heart and he won't ask for her forgiveness for taking advantage of it.

As Wadanohara bleeds, Samekichi remembers spending time together, the happiness of which was enough to make him forget his painful past with the brother he was supposed to bring back. Samekichi departs to destroy the Sea of Death once and for all, where Sal begs for death as he's dreamed of the night his mother killed herself too many times. This scene from the second bonus video reveals Samekichi and Sal's real names: Aonami ("blue wave") and Shiranami ("white wave").

The final bonus video sees Aonami visiting his aunt Namiho with the encouragement of Wadanohara, who now has a son named Minami. Aonami admits to being unable to keep his promise but his aunt isn't angry at him; she's happy to see him again. Standing in front of her sister's grave, Namiho calls Shiranami out for rejecting his brother's love but wishes him to rest in peace with his mother Namikaze.

I am once again thinking about Samekichi's backstory

Listen, listen. It has always rubbed me how chill he always seemed to be about his mother's death

Look at that face. Sure, he has the eye bags, either because he didn't sleep that night, or more likely because he cried a lot.

But still, there's not a big sadness coming from him at that moment.

Namiho is pretty chill too, but she did say she was angry at her sis, and she's probably one of those adults who stay calm at situations like these.

Now, when he turns to look at his brother,

look at that sad face. He's seeing how broken his bro is, and he just wants to cheer him up.

And then, when he runs away...

He breaks down in tears.

Samekichi, the tough boy since he was little, crying and looking for comfort in his aunt's arms.

The only other time we see him cry is when he has to leave Wadda. And it's not even such a sad cry as the other one.

"nooo but that's bc he was a kid and more sensitive and-" KID MY ASS, HE WAS A TEENAGER, AND HE STILL HAS THE MENTALITY OF ONE.

HE CARES ABOUT SAL MORE THAN ABOUT WADANOHARA I DON'T ACCEPT DISCUSSIONS

Not only he cries, his aunt too. Unlike Sal's stupid fucking ass thinks, his family loves him with everything they have.

Bro, he's next to his mom's grave, and he's looking at the goddam sky. Highly likely thinking about his brother.

And look at the conversation he has with Namiho when he returns home, he never ever mentions his mother, only how much he regrets for breaking his promise. And he doesn't even seem to go visit her grave.

So yeah, it's pretty clear Samekichi has a stronger bond with his aunt and brother than with his mom.
