What fanfic or fanfics have stayed in your mind ever since you’ve read them?

Hello, anon! This is a fantastic question! It's taken me quite some time though, for it to properly marinate in my mind. I've read a lot of fanfiction, and many of them have stuck with me. I was seriously a fanfic crackhead when I first started reading fanfiction a few years ago! Every day, I would read, read, read! I mostly read Naruhina because it is and always will be my main ship.

So, most of the stories that have resided in my head rent-free are Naruhina, and the majority are dark, smutty, or simply angsty. Not all of them, but the majority...

I'll just list out the stories and their authors, and provide links. I'll also separate the dark ones from the fluffy or even just smutty ones.

There's probably a whole lot more! But, that's all I can think of and find at the moment. The stories or oneshots I have picked have replayed constantly in my mind at random. It could be a scene, or the entirety of it, and I'm like "damn, I remember that story. That's a good ass story, or damn that was really fucking crazy, I'll never be able to get that out of my head." (in a good way.)

I remember the days when I used to read fanfictions a lot, I used to take notes on how other fanfic writers wrote their content. They all inspired me so much. So, it was only a matter of time before I began writing on my own.

As you can see, I've read a lot of dark Naruhina content. And I don't even think that's everything I've read, just the majority that's stuck in my head. I also know there's probably TONS of other life-changing, and thrilling Naruhina content that's out there and slowly but surely, I'll be sure to go around and begin reading them all when I get the chance.

"By definition, it means when two or more chemical elements bonded together that - wait, are you even listening Naruto?" Hinata paused looking up. A lazy smirk etches his face and shivers go up her spine, face warming. Leaning in, his grin widens. "Of course, I'm enjoying this talk on heat dynamics; especially with you!" She stutters and he beams, chemistry just got interesting…

Surprisingly this is the first naruhina highschool au fic I've read, and WOW. I really like how the characters are written, and this story will definitely catch you by surprise in the middle. It seems like an unassuming fluff fest, but it really hits you with the angst and the action. I can't say any more about it because I might spoil it. A MUST-READ.

21 Days by BunnyHoodlum  @bunny-hoodlum (Modern AU)

Hinata answered a simple post from a flirty, and blatantly horny guy. She thought that might break her out of her shell, help her practice establishing her boundaries and all that stuff.

She never would have known that the flirty anon on the other side was someone she actually knew.

(I think this is a pretty well known fic? But I don't really see enough people talking about it.)

This is one of those fics where the tags would either frighten or intrigue you.

Something about Naruto being a military brat lights a fire in me (a very hot, smokey fire). I really love how Naruto's brain works in the fic. We dive in so deep into his own troubles with his family life, with his relationships, and with himself. Hinata's troubles are so well written, and I love how even if she's meant to be a bit closed off, she doesn't come across as meek and mild. 

The team 7 dynamic in this is adorable, and the smut is smutty.

Don't let the fact that it's incomplete sway you the story is so SO worth it.

No. Hinata didn’t deserve to be compared to PearlPrincess. No matter how attractive she was, she was just too pure. And yet.

There was a time in my life where I would go onto AO3 every. single. day. hoping for an update on this, and by the grace of the author, it’s been recently updated. (July 29, 2022)

Again, the tags would either frighten or intrigue you. It’s definitely not for everyone (there’s one-sided sasuhina in this) but everything that might sway you is what’s going to keep you reading. The fluff is tooth-rotting. The tension is gripping. The smut in this is what 50 shades wanted to be. 

The author included warnings for very explicit scenes so I think you can just skip over those if you need to.

I been asked this a lot lately and also no don't really read I still keep up with new chapters that get posted every now and then though.

Because I Love You - Chasing After You is one of my favs and is the first one that comes to made. As for others its been years since I read them and I read 1000s.

Naruto walked into his apartment, shut the door behind him, and didn’t say a word when he saw Konohamaru on his couch watching some television show. He threw the boxed cake onto his counter and went straight to bed, willing himself to replay the moment over and over in his head.

“Baka,” he said as he imagined Hinata’s perfect pink tongue against his fingertip. He grimaced, physically feeling as if he had been sucker-punched.

“Nii-chan?” Konohamaru said as he approached Naruto’s bedside. “I know you said I’m not allowed to come over when you’re not home, but you know how it is with my parents. I just wanted—”

Konohamru was going to continue, that is until he realized that Naruto looked pained—extremely pained.

“Nii-chan...are you okay? I thought you were going to be out late with Hinata.”

At the mention of her name, Naruto sucked in a breath and turned on his side, away from his protegee.

Putting two and two together Konohamaru’s worried expression quickly turned into one of mischievous glee, “Something happened, didn’t it?”

Naruto grunted in response, which only served to encourage Konohamaru’s imagination.

“I knew it! I knew it!” He said excitedly, grabbing onto Naruto’s side. He attempted to turn him back over to face him, but Naruto refused.

“You have to tell me, come on, you have to tell me what happened!”

“I...She...” Naruto sounded as if the wind had been knocked out of him, he truly could not articulate what had happened. He didn’t know how to explain it. It was so very innocent, but at the same time so incredibly intimate. His imagination began running away with him the moment her eyes met his, in that split second of panic when he realized what he had done and she had given into a capricious whim. He was sure he wouldn’t be able to think of anything but her tonight.

“Nii-chan, that isn’t an answer” Konohamaru pouted.

Naruto turned to face him and patted the space next to him. Konohamaru obliged him and sat on the edge of the bed.

“Look, you’re just too young right now for me to explain...”

Konohamaru rolled his eyes, “I know about that. I’m thirteen, not three.”

Naruto narrowed his eyes, “That’s not what I was talking about.”

“Then what, were you going to say, love?” Konohamaru said, clasping his hands together raising them to the side of his face in an exaggerated motion.

“Okay, get out.”

“No, come on! I want to know what happened!”

“Nothing.”

“You’re going to tell me you’re acting this way because absolutely nothing happened?”

“Look, squirt,” Naruto said sitting up and crossing his legs upon the bed. He faced Konohamaru and clasped his shoulder firmly, “Before this morning, I didn’t realize that Hinata had...um...that she...”

“Loves you.”

“Woah! Come on now. We don’t know that.”

A deadpan look was etched upon Konahamru’s face, “Right.”

“We can’t assume that. I was going to say that...she had...feelings? For me?”

“Acceptance is the first step, nii-chan.”

“I’m trying to be serious here, kid. Cut me some slack.”

“Alright, alright.” Naruto took a breath and ran a hand through his extremely short blonde hair, trying to compose his thoughts before opening his mouth once more.

“Look, before today I never really opened my eyes to this kind of thing. I used to be so focused on training that...”

“Girls didn’t even exist.”

“Yeah!”

“Except for Sakura onee-san”

“Hey now! I had a little crush on her, that was it. We’re more like brother and sister at this point.”

“Yeah, yeah,” Konohamaru said, waving him off.

“Anyways,” Naruto continued, “I don’t know. I just...something kind of just clicked today. But I feel like such a shitty guy because the reason it clicked was because-” He stopped abruptly, realizing who he was talking to.

“Oh come on, you can’t stop now! Why did it click!?”

“When you’re older-”

“Don’t give me that! When I’m older you’ll still be five years older than me and can use that excuse. I’m not buying it, tell me!”

Naruto sighed, but continued, “Okay, okay. I um...Well...Hinata brought me a piece of cake from Hanabi’s birthday. And, well, it had strawberries on it. I know she really likes them so I picked one off of the slice and offered it to her with my hand.”

“Alright.”

“Well, she took it.”

“And then you guys made out?”

“No!!! That’s it, that’s the story!”

“You’re telling me what did it for you was her eating out of your hand? You’re shitting me right?”

“Hey! Language!”

Konohamaru shook his head, “Don’t change the subject!”

“I’m not.”

“Well, then, continue!”

“Jeez, you’re something else, kid.”

“I don’t have all night...”

Naruto groaned in frustration, tempted to evict Konohamaru from his bed and his apartment. “Look, I don’t know how to explain to you Konohamaru because it’s just one of those things you have to feel. You think i’m insane for saying this is the exact moment I realized it, but I’m telling you, one day you’re going to go through the exact same thing and you’re not going to think I’m so crazy then.”

Konohamaru huffed as he rested his chin on the top of his knuckle, “So what did it for you? Her licking your fingers or something?”

Naruto turned as red as the crest upon his back and Konohamaru cracked up immediately, “Oh, nii-chan! You can’t be serious! Hinata...she..” One glance at Naruto’s face and he had his answer. “Shit, nii-chan, that’s pretty kinky.”

“Alright, that’s it. Out!” Naruto said, pushing Konohamaru off of his bed. The boy landed with a thud on the wooden floor.

“Hey, I’m not judging what you’re into. I just think it’s funny that she almost gave up her life for you, but it was this that made you realize you both definitely have a thing for each other.”

“Get out,” Naruto said firmly.

“I think it’s nice it’s finally all out in the open.”

Naruto got up and started throwing Konohamaru’s things into his knapsack.

“But really, hey, who would’ve thought that Hinata...you know.”

Naruto turned around sharply, “What?”

“She just...didn’t seem like the type.”

“Type?”

Konohamaru laughed, “Nii-chan, she’s been in love with you forever but never really made a move. I didn’t think that straight out the gate she’d come out and suck your fingers.”

Naruto’s face turned a deep shade of red, “She—she didn’t—she didn’t do that! It was an accident!”

“Now it was an accident, sure, boss.”

“I’m not asking you to leave again.”

Konohamaru sighed and grabbed his backpack off the floor before turning towards the door. He was about to start moving towards it, but instead turned to look at Naruto once more, “Don’t mess this up, nii-chan. She gave you the green light officially. What you do from here is probably your last chance to bag her.”

“You are such a little weasel, you really talk about girls that way?”

“What way!? I didn’t say sleep with her! I meant—” But Konohamaru didn’t get to finish his thought because Naruto opened the door, pushed him through it, and shut it abruptly behind him.

“Goodnight,” Naruto said through the door.

“Don’t mess it up, Nii-chan!”

Hinata paced the length of her bedroom countless times, trying to convince herself that what had happened was an accident. But at this point, she just wasn’t sure anymore.

“Hinata!” She heard Hanabi call from the hallway, “Phone call for you!”

She ran, barefooted, out into the corridor and almost slammed straight into her younger sister, “Woah! Where’s the fire? It’s just Sakura. Were you expecting someone else? Hanabi asked a smirk etched upon her face.

Hinata wordlessly grabbed the phone from Hanabi’s grasp with a furrowed brow and ran back into the safety of her room.

“Sakura?”

“Hinata-chan! I meant to call earlier, but I just got home.”

“Oh, that’s alright. I wasn’t expecting a call from you, was I?”

“No, no! I just had something to tell you about Naruto.”

Hinata’s pulse became unsteady once more and she nervously blurted out, “It was an accident! You have to tell him I didn’t mean it!”

“What!? What was an accident?”

“He...he didn’t tell you what happened today?”

“Something happened!?”

“I-I...what were you going to say?”

Hinata could hear Sakura slamming something down on her end and involuntarily flinched as her friend yelled, “Hinata what happened!?”

Hot tears of shame began welling up in the back of her eyes, she didn’t want to tell Sakura, but she knew that at this point it would be better to get some advice from someone who wasn’t directly involved.

She shakily replayed the events from earlier in detail to her friend, and stuttered as she admitted, “I want to think it was an accident, but...it just...it felt...right?”

Sakura giggled, “I can only imagine the idiot’s reaction.”

Hinata smiled, “Yes, it was...it was something.”

“Hinata?”

“Yes?”

“I know that you’re over-analyzing everything, as you always do, but can I say something.”

“Mhmm.”

“You probably gave Naruto the 5 most exciting seconds of his life so far.”

The two kunoichis burst out laughing, Hinata was thankful that Sakura had called and managed to quell her fears in one breath.

“So...so you don’t think I scared him off?”

“There’s no way!” Sakura exclaimed, “If anything, I think you solidified what he ran over to tell Sasuke this afternoon.”

Hinata flushed, “What—what did he tell Sasuke-Kun?”

“I really think you two should talk.”

“Sakura-chan, please?” Hinata pleaded.

“Hinata, trust me on this one, go talk to Naruto. For real this time.”

“O—okay.”

“Alright, have a good night then! We’ll chat tomorrow. I’ll stop by with some tea.”

Hinata sighed, “Alright Sakura. Have a good night.”

She laid back upon her bed, the phone still in hand, as she pondered calling Naruto. But she talked herself out of it, knowing she had had her fill of embarrassment for one day. She would just stop by tomorrow morning before he started training for the day.

Until then, with flushed cheeks and star-filled eyes, a conflicted Hinata would replay the feel of him upon her tongue.

Hinata stilled at his side.

For one second, one terrifying second, Naruto was suddenly sure that none of this was real. That he made up this romance in his head, a dream from getting a little too into these stupid books with their everlasting love and devotion.

But Hinata carefully nodded her head against his, her hand moving to rest on his chest, right where Naruto’s heart was beating much too loudly. He could hear the unsteady rhythm in his ears and feel it deep in his throat. It was similar to the feeling, right after a fight, when everything feels a little too good to be true and his knees were about to about to give. “I want that more than anything,” she said quietly. Her breath was warm on his cheek, her lips brushed against his jaw.

Oh, we're talking about Team 8 right now? One of the first Naruto fanfictions I ever read and still one I would re-read to this day. What a great story. Some of my favourite parts include the development of the NaruHina relationship (which is outstanding), Naruto getting original summons from differing fandoms, and the scythe weapons-style learned by Shino (and his adorably peppy mother) and his training with Tenten + Lee. And you can't forget Kurenai Yuhi. My God, Kurenai in this fic is amazing and remains my favourite incarnation of her character. Her altered backstory and issues with the Hyuuga, the lessened focus on her relationships, her teaching methods for all three Genin, and the pivotal confrontation that goes completely opposite of canon (and I remain shook by what the author had the guts to do) all combine to make her an astonishing and engaging character.

It really is a good fic and I highly rec it and that's from someone who doesn't really enjoy NaruHina

Hey there! Just wanted to say your rec lists are awesome. I was hesitant about sending a self-promo, but I'd love it if you added a couple of my SS stories to your rec lists! All my stuff is on FFN/AO3/Wattpad under the same name, so link whichever platform you prefer (or all!)

- The first one I have is Midnight Blossoms, which is a blank period/postwar fic. It's also a multi-chapter fic, and while it's not completed, it's still very regularly updated.

- The second one I have is actually a larger AU, but starts with SS and has a lot of SS content: Happy Accidents and its sequel Bonded Souls. It's a Modern AU / Crime AU fic (think Naruto characters meets crime drama) with a couple of other spinoffs (right now SaiIno and NaruHina, with a potential NejiTen one in the future) that's all a set of interconnected stories. You can read the SS ones as standalones, but I always recommend the other interconnected ones since they affect the plot on some level.

Again, thank you so much for your rec lists! I think it's great you look through so much SS content and make it really easy for readers to find good, quality content and let some maybe lesser-known authors be seen!

Not troublesome at all! Thanks for reaching out! Let’s see, for starting off, eh? 

The Path We Walk and Sparks, both by tenneyshoes. Both are set in the same universe, though the first one is more a story (a memory loss one, to boot) while the other is more of a collection of one-shots, though they’re still quite closely connected. I think they both capture the essence of the pairing quite well, and The Path We Walk is especially fun for re-reading multiple times.

Between the Trees by utsus. Quite an excellent collection of one-shots, quite diverse too. Chapter 9 especially great, and is one of my favourite one-shots ever. Then, check out utsus’ other works as well, they’re all quite good.

Team 8 by S’TarKan is a classic. Unfortunately, it is incomplete, and hasn’t been updated in quite some time, but it’s quite famous in the fandom. Basically, Kurenai has more of a backstory, and Naruto and Kiba are swapped when the team placements were made (this author also wrote a rather famous Harry potter Fic, Nightmares of Future Past, which was recently removed from fanfiction.net for some weird reason, but it’s one of my favourite works).

Secret Lovers and its continuation, Star Vessel, by @quirrrky are really great, and Secret Lovers in particular is one that it great to read multiple times. They’re both canon compliant and set during the Blank Period, before and after The Last.

One Small Step and A Delicate Condition by Shawny Wong. They are both very sweet, a couple of my favourites, but unfortunately, both are incomplete and haven’t been updated in over 10 years. However, from what is already there, I think they’re still worth a read (especially a Delicate Condition, which works as it is at the moment)

It Was Winter by eliphya. A wonderful bakery AU which just warms the heart, and eliphya has a bunch of other great Naruhina fics as well, which I do recommend you check out at some point. 

Obviously there’s no such thing as “entry level” fics, but I think those are pretty good for getting into it all. Then, there are: 

Anything by @dayseternal-blog​ (AO3) (that’s not the name of a fic, by the way). Honestly, one of the best authors out there, and they just finished a great angst fic, White Lilies, which diverges from canon at The Last. My personal favourite is It’s No Secret, a high school AU.

Anything by @waterrolls (AO3) (again, not a fic, though it might make for a great story actually). All of their work is excellent, my personal favourite being Salvage. It’s sort of a rewrite of the Blank Period, and does it so well as well. 

To match our strides by Stonehill. It’s canon compliant and set before The Last. Another excellent fic with some wonderfully sweet moments

put on your warpaint by borzbois is very well written with an intriguing plot and much excitement. It’s a Tattoo Artist AU. 

Serenity Prayer by katarinahime. A modern AU where Hinata and Naruto meet again after... quite a time apart. It’s a wonderful fic that might be a bit emotionally... heavy, but it’s a great read that I strongly recommend. This author has a few other really great stories too. 

A Hyuuga’s Honor by Elphaba818 is a Mulan AU that is a personal favourite of mine because of how well it adapts the world of Naruto into the story of Mulan (the animated one that is, the actually good one). That is to say, as closely as it follows the movie’s story, it doesn’t just write out Mulan but swap out Mulan and Shang’s names with Hinata and Naruto’s. 

I’ll leave it there for now. These are ones that come to mind at the moment, but there are so many more options to look at, and as you get tangled deeper and deeper in the jungle that is the Naruhina fanfiction world, you’ll just naturally discover more fics as you go along. Also, you can keep the Hyuuga HInata/Uzumaki Naruto AO3 update list up, and check it sometimes to see if you bump into anything that seems interesting, though you may have to apply a liberal amount of filters if you wish to avoid certain pairings or tags. 

And, if the need ever arises, I have a mildly extensive google doc serving as an archive of the fics that I read and thought might be worth keeping a record of.

I'm checking all the tumblr stuff I've missed!

And I've forgotten to eat as a result. It's like I think this won't take me any time at all, but it's actually taking me hours at this point. Q_Q

I've been feeling guilty about not coming back with the Part 2 to Szajnie's secret santa story I wrote for her. Wow, I can't believe it's going to be May already though. O_o I seriously don't know where the time goes.

I'm seriously like, not addicted to social media and it makes me feel antisocial and guilty and junk. Like, I don't have to have an engaging website I guess? But I feel like I'm somehow not reciprocating or meeting some sort of standard? That's a weird thought, right?

I'm not good at talking about things anymore. I've been in hermit mode for half a decade and it's too comfy. I don't feel like I have anything to contribute, honestly. I can just hop into a forum, look for an opinion that resembles my own, and then done, nothing I need to do on my part. That line of thought already exists. That's how I think about social media, I guess.

Uhhh, a few months ago I got asked to recommend some NaruHina fanfiction and I failed, all I really recced was "Catskin" I think. For some reason compiling list of fave things just evaporates in my brain and I don't know why. My ability to concentrate also evaporates. I probably have mild depression still, tbh. I can't explain this brain fog laziness as anything else. But anyways! I remembered a fic I used to check into way back in the day! So I wanna share it here! I think even I need to reread it, cuz last I remember it was 2 or 4 chapters for the longest time, but it got abandoned at 7 chapters! So maybe I'll find something new there! XD

The Circle Game by Serena-chan

I went back to my old FFN account Starfairy14s, and tried to scour through my favorites again. Idk how I passed over this title, but somehow I saw it last time and remembered. It's in Hiashi's POV, but like, it's also kind of 3rd person limited and just the part with NaruHina fooling around in the woods during noisy festival fireworks stuck with me. It was just my favorite imagery for my teenage heart. The rest of it angsty and neat, like, Hiashi reminiscing on his daughter when she was a toddler. That might've inspired the way I write about families, like, trying to keep it real.

Anyways, I just wanted to share that!

21) Tell me about another writer(s) who you admire? What is it about them that you admire?

Oh man, I’ve answered something like this similarly before. In the past, well over a year ago. And I’m afraid most of my fanfiction knowledge is from older fics, because I’m TERRIBLY SCATTERBRAINED and haven’t kept up as well recently. 

Okay so, The Possession by HawkofNavarre is an oldie, but a goodie. It’s one of the first multi-chapter fanfics I read in the FT fandom when I first watched the series, so it holds a special place in my heart just for that, but still good! There’s also Semantically Correct by MissMungoe, who I adore all stories she’s written. Especially her Gajevy works!  (Like the story, Leaves Under Foot- another favorite. That ones adorable.) Anything by @madartiste - I’ve always loved their work. And their one-shots ALWAYS put a smile on my face when I give them a reread. 

Outside of FT, there’s a Naruhina Fic I love called “Sleepless Nights” by Flowerslut. 

Then there’s pretty much anything written by @absent-angel. I found her through the fanfic “Ignite.” Many years ago when I first went by the name “Crimsonguiltypleasures.” And her writing has always been something beautiful to read. Wonderful descriptions. Almost like reading poetry. 

The Astrologist by Navybluewings is one of my top favorites to read as well. 

Then there’s “Telling Tales” by Tremordragon. That’s one of my favorite, cute one shots that I like to read when I just want a “feel good” story. 

If you’re willing to read SessomaruxKagome fanfics (or inuxkag as this author dabbles in that as well-) then I’d rec any fanfic by Forthright . She’s got some amazing stuff! 

Last but not least, in the Legend of Zelda fandom. one of my old favorite zelink writers, Crazygurlmadness. Has some amazing one shots and stories out there, but the one that blew me out of the water is her latest one based off of Breath of The Wild. One Last Year. 

I wish I had more recent writers/stories to rec, but these are all the ones that have been the most impactful for me!
