16th August 1864 saw the birth in India of Elsie Maud Inglis.
Elsie's family originated from originated from Kingsmills, Inverness-shire, her father,John, was in the service of the East India Company, although he was opposed to the imperialist policies of the 1870s. John retired and moved his family to Tasmania for two years before moving to Edinburgh in 1878. From 1878 to 1882, Inglis attended the Edinburgh Institute for the Education of Young Ladies.
When she was eighteen, Inglis attended a finishing school in Paris. Inglis knew she wanted to pursue a career in medicine and fortunately in 1886 Sophie Jex-Blake opened the Edinburgh School of Medicine for Women, where Inglis began her medical training. However, a student rebellion in 1889 led Inglis with the support of her father and his influential friends to establish a rival school, the Medical College for Women.
Inglis studied at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary for eighteen months before qualifying as a licentiate at the Colleges of Physicians and Surgeons in Edinburgh and Glasgow.
Inglis’s first position was medical officer at Elizabeth Garrett Anderson’s New Hospital for Women in London. Inglis held a short post in Dublin before returning to Edinburgh in 1894 where she opened a general practice. In 1899, Inglis graduated MB CM from Edinburgh and was appointed lecturer of gynaecology at the Medical College for Women, in partnership with Jessie Macgregor, opened a small hospital for women and children in 1894.
In 1904, Inglis’s small hospital moved to the High Street and was renamed The Hospice. In 1905 Inglis was appointed senior consultant of the Bruntsfield Hospital, which merged with The Hospice in 1911.
Inglis was nearly fifty in 1914 when war was declared, but her zeal and patriotism led her to offer her services to the War Office, only to be denied. Not deterred, Inglis sought to form independent hospital units staffed by women. An appeal for funds and support soon attracted more than just suffrage supporters. Inglis gave an inspiring speech in October 1914 at Kingsway Hall on ‘what women can do to help the war.’ Funds poured in for the new organization, the Scottish Women’s Hospitals for Foreign Service (SWH) and both the French and Serbs accepted the offer of all female medical units. The first unit left for France in November 1914 and the second went to Serbia in January 1915. Inglis went to Serbia in 1915 as the chief medical officer.
In the autumn Serbia was invaded and Inglis’s hospital was taken over by Germans. She was interned until February 1916 when she was sent home. Upon her return home, Inglis advocated for aid in Serbia. On 3 April 1916, Inglis became the first woman to be decorated with the order of the white eagle. Attempts over the next couple of years to found hospitals and aid Serbia were tried and failed. Inglis remained with her unit in Romania until September 1917 when it re-joined the Serbian division.
Inglis knew she had cancer, and by the end of September was unable to work as a surgeon, although she continued to direct the unit. Although the political situation was deteriorating rapidly, Inglis refused to leave until the Serbs were transferred out of Russia. When the unit finally left, Inglis sent a telegraph home saying, ‘Everything satisfactory and all well except me.’ Inglis and her unit landed in Newcastle and the following day, 26nd November 1917, in the presence of her sisters, Inglis died. Before her body was interned in Dean Cemetery, Inglis’s body lay in state in St Giles’ Cathedral. The SWH continued its work for the duration of the war, sending out more units and raising money for the work. Remaining funds were used to establish the Elsie Inglis Memorial Maternity Hospital in Edinburgh in July 1925.
Elsie Inglis has been honoured many times since her death, most notably on a stamp in Serbia, on a Clydesdale Bank £50 note and most recently on the centenary of her death in November 2017, as seen in the fourth pic.

Matheus Nunes
138439845836
Manchester City are reportedly preparing an improved bid for Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Matheus Nunes.
That’s according to the Mail, who are also reporting that the Etihad club are prepared to walk away if the price goes too high. The report claims that Gary O'Neil's side rejected City's opening £47million offer for the Portuguese star.
Nunes has scored just one goal and added a single assist in 41 games for Wolves since joining for a club-record fee from Sporting CP last summer. Liverpool 's interest in Nunes was described as 'long standing' back in January and the Reds did assess the merits of the midfielder during his final season with Sporting Lisbon in Portugal's Primeira Liga.

Conor Gallagher
According to Football Insider, Conor Gallagher wants to stay and fight for his Chelsea place amid ongoing interest from Tottenham Hotspur.
Gallagher, who made 45 appearances across all competitions in the 2022/23 season, scoring three and assisting one, has started all three of Chelsea’s games so far this season despite his club spending over £150m on two midfielders.
The ECHO reported back in April that Gallagher had emerged as a surprise target under consideration by Liverpool as they looked to revamp their midfield. While West Ham United also saw a bid rejected for the England international earlier this summer.

Tottenham Hotspur defender Sergio Reguilon and Marc Cucurella of Chelsea are among the left-backs Manchester United are considering signing before Friday's transfer deadline.
That’s according to the Manchester Evening News, who are reporting that United are open to signing a left-back as Luke Shaw is expected to be out for at least two months with a muscular injury.
Regions Has not played for Tottenham since April 2022 and spent last season on loan at Atletico Madrid, while Cucurella is out of favour under Mauricio Pochettino, who prefers Ben Chilwell at left wing-back.

Betting on Premier League Summer Window – Which Players Are Likely to Move?
The summer transfer window is right around the corner, and it is one of the most exciting times of the year for football fans. With the Premier League being one of the world’s wealthiest and most competitive football leagues, there is always a lot of speculation about which players will be on the move during the window.
This year’s transfer window is shaping up to be no different, with several high-profile players linked with moves to and away from the Premier League clubs. From young stars looking to make their mark to seasoned veterans seeking a fresh challenge, plenty of players could switch clubs in the upcoming months.
In this article, we’ll take a closer look at some of the players who are most likely to move and which clubs could be their potential destinations.
                                               ARRIVALS
Neymar - 1/5: Earlier this year, Neymar hoped to stay at PSG this summer, but now things have changed. According to many sources, Neymar might now be on his way out of the French giants, and it seems PSG has no intention of standing in his way. Many believe that, after all, Neymar will stay at PSG or move back to Barcelona. But a couple of sources have stated that Neymar would want to join a Premier League club before next season. Chelsea and Manchester United have been amongst the clubs rumoured to be after the Brazilian star, but both deals look unlikely.
Kim Min-Jae - 4/5: The South Korean international has made his final breakthrough in Europe and has had a very remarkable first campaign in Serie A. Kim has been an integral player for Luciano Spalletti’s side, who clinched Napoli’s first Scudetto in 33 years. While being one of the most-talked centre-backs in the world, Kim also has a reasonable release clause of 53m. There have been plenty of rumours about Manchester United and Newcastle being after his signature.
Paulo Dybala - 2/5: The Argentinian forward moved to AS Roma last summer and might already be on his way to a new club. The 29-year-old has been one of the best players in the Roma squad this season and might seek new challenges during the summer window. Ever since the rumours about Dybala’s unique release clause came to the public, Tottenham has been targeting him more than ever. There is still a higher chance that Dybala will move to another Italian club, which is why it’s not likely that he’ll move to the Premier League next summer.
Joao Felix - 4/5: Even though the whole Chelsea squad has been underperforming throughout the season, Felix has had a good impact on the team ever since he joined them on loan during the January window. In 13 Premier League appearances, Felix has scored three goals, and his overall gameplay has looked more than impressive. It’s likely that either Chelsea will sign Felix on a permanent contract or a club like Arsenal will snatch him before the deal with Chelsea happens.
Teemu Pukki - 3/5:The Finnish veteran forward has already played his last game in the Canaries kit and will part ways with the club at the end of the season. There have been rumors about Pukki joining nearly every league in the world, but according to Finnish gambling experts from Kasinosivustoni.com, he’ll most likely stay in the UK. From the Premier League clubs, at least Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest have shown interest in signing the 33-year-old Finn.

Man Utd transfer roundup Memphis Depay domino effect as Scott McTominay position confirmed
Manchester United are busy scouring Europe in search of signings this winter amid a move for Wout Weghorst from Burnley with a wide range of players linked with both an arrival and an exit from Old Trafford
Manchester United appear set to continue their busy January transfer window with a few moves having already been made.
The Red Devils have sealed the services of Jack Butland on loan until the end of the campaign, while they have also agreed to bring Dutch striker Wout Weghorst to Old Trafford for the next few months. It remains to be seen if any more arrivals follow the pair becoming Red Devils.
That being said, here are the latest rumors to come out of Old Trafford over the past 24 hours, with the window now open for two weeks.
Tumblr media
Newcastle take McTominay decision Newcastle United have reportedly taken the decision not to pursue a loan deal for United midfielder Scott McTominay. The Scot has been linked with a move to St James’ Park in January, with the Magpies keen to bolster their options at the center of the park as they continue their bid for a Champions League place.
When asked if his side had made a bid for McTominay, Newcastle boss Eddie Howe was quick to dismiss the claims out of hand. As quoted by the Manchester Evening News, he said: “No it’s not true [bidding for McTominay]. The loan market is always a big option for us. But I think it’s very difficult to loan out. the right player.”
The 26-year-old has made 21 appearances for the Red Devils this season, but just under half of those outings have been departures.
Elanga’s future depends on Depay Man Utd’s approach to Anthony Elanga’s short-term future at Old Trafford appears to hinge on whether they have a replacement striker – most likely ex-Red Devil Memphis Depay. United have been linked with a move for the Dutchman this window alongside Arsenal.
According to talkSPORT, if the Barcelona star arrives at Old Trafford in January, it could lead to Anthony Elanga leaving the club on loan. The young Swede has been linked with a loan move to Premier League rivals Everton.
Elanga has seen opportunities with United dwindle this season after making just seven starts in all competitions under Erik ten Hag.
While Elanga could leave, a member of the current squad could stay who previously seemed hopeless. Right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been linked with moves to Wolves and Crystal Palace.
However, after earning a place in the squad in recent weeks, he now looks set to stay. According to MailPlus, Wan-Bissaka is set to stay with the club after Ten Hag was impressed with his performance.
The Dutchman now thinks he has a real alternative to the injured Diogo Dalot.
