Newsie: Flipper

Actor: Brian Friedman

Flipper is a young Newsie who goes by many names.

He wears oversized clothing that are in mostly greys and purple. He has red suspenders under his vest.

He's been called Slider,

Blanket,

Crazy Legs (only acknowledged by the actor),

and Patrick.

But he's probably best known as Flipper because of his dramatic hair flips.

Flipper has three Newsie big bros looking out for him:

The first is Jake, who teaches him dance moves such as enthusiastic skipping and imaginary lassoing.

The second is Bumlets, who gives him hair styling and hair care advice.

And the third is Kid Blink, who always has a shoulder for him to lean on.

Bumlets shows the pecking order by pushing Flipper down a stair.

Flipper loses a sword fight to Les. The winner gets a head smoosh from Dave.

Round two goes on in the back. Who needs Dave, when you have three adoptive brothers of your own?

Without his three bros to guide him,

Flipper is picking fights,

getting dragged around by Crutchy,

climbing onto statues,

and passing out on the job from staying up past his bedtime reading the comics section of The World.

What do you call this Newsie? Personally I like Blanket the most, but I went with Flipper because it's the name he's commonly known as.

Down right character descriptions. you know? I'll just go through and say general stuff that wasn't said in the chart, this will prolly end up in 2 or three characters per post, depending on how long each are. (:

Snap(Tomy) Crusad: (he/him) (Spot alt)

15 years old

Became King of Brooklyn when he was 12 years old, after the former died, has been threatened for the position by many people, still in the position 3 years later

ran away from parents and family when he was 6 and a half years old, moved from Britain a few months before

hides his British accent with a heavy Brooklyn accent. it slips sometimes when he's tired, or surprised, but most people don't really notice

has chronic pain and really bad anxiety just hides it from everyone all the time. (leans on a lot of stuff and people to not fall over when its a flare day, does it enough for it to not be weird) (can't sit on the ground for long because it hurts to much lol)

Sprace is a thing in this so its more snrace, but that's a thing and it happens after the strike

knew Race for a couple years before the strike

veeeery adhd

smokes sometimes (hides it form smaller newsies, wants to set the best example possible, but he's also not even close to it)

still a pretty small guy but pretty strong (like Newsies92 Spot)

very big liar, all the time, not to good at it but not to bad either. When you know his tells, it's pretty easy to tell he's lying

got the nickname Race/r from being 10 years old and very competitive about how fast he could sell papes

does not have a cigar like canon (fanon?) RaceTrack Higgins, still gambles like him though

Flick is having so much fun spinning the wheel that he almost has second thoughts about leaving when Jack tells them to go.

Proceeds to walk through the dancing crowd. Even Les (in the corner) knows the choreography.

Tries not to get hit by a dancer.

Luckily Mush is there to guide him away from the oncoming dancing stampede.

Davey finally realises he is in a musical

and joins in at the last minute.

Newsie: Trance

Trance is a rather shy Newsie.

He wears a grey Newsies cap and a handkerchief tied around his neck. The rest of his ensemble consists of a cream pinstriped open vest over a grey shirt and white undershirt, and brown pants. He also carries a large satchel for his papes.

He's friends with Leaf and Snap.

And besties with Snoddy.

He's sometimes on the fence...

and at other times confused.

But when it's time to arise

and seize the day,

he's knows that now's the time to seize the day.

And so, he goes on a lunch date with his bestie, Snoddy.

When they're together, him and Snoddy feels like the Kings of New York.

Trance is a great dancer. Here he is tapping with Top Hat and Snoddy,

spinning with Boots

and twirling with Swifty.

Trance goes into a trance when he dances.

But he gets the job done.

Newsie: Goldy

Goldy is a lanky Newsie with a sassy personality. He has golden blond hair styled like a 90's boyband member.

He's not played by a younger Ryan Gosling.

Goldy likes to dress in earth tones, wearing a gold vest over a dark green shirt and dark brown pants.

He's usually cheerful and energetic.

Except for when Jack is scabbing.

Newsie: Stable Kid

Stable Kid is a Newsie that often ponders, "how am I going to make ends meet?"

He wears tattered clothes including a vest with a rip on the side. His clothes are mostly in neutral colours such as browns and greys.

Despite seeing the advancing strikers, he still hurries to buy papes from Weasel. (Hoping to somehow sneak out of there despite the Newsies being right behind him.)

Bumlets follows him close behind.

Stable Kid hesitates but is intimidated by Bumlets and his cane. He makes a wise last minute change of heart and throws down his papes in a show of support for the strike.

Gets a spit-free welcoming handshake from Jack.

As well as a quick chest pat,

a smile of approval from Blink,

and a Racetrack "welcome to the union, Kid" while Specs gives him a head rub.

Stable Kid shows concern for his scabbing friend when the other Newsies are berating him.

But gets into the striking mood when he gets to throw papes with Race. (Swifty is really excited back there.)

He's able to find a job as a stable boy to make ends meet while the strike is going on. Racetrack visits him at his new workplace and asks him, "Hey Kid. Can you read? Read that."

Despite his new duties of removing gunk from horses' hooves, he is now fully with the strike and shows up to support the Newsies for the final rally. He stays to witness Jack and Davey's spitshake.

Newsie: Hat-Hair

Hat-Hair is a Newsie with wild, bushy hair that his cream coloured Newsies cap can hardly contain:

His clothing includes a vest, also cream, over a light blue shirt, tucked into brown pants.

He's one of the Newsies that's always late for class.

He's friends with Goldy. They like to horse around.

You know Hat-Hair means business when he releases his windswept mane in all its glory during the dance breaks.

It takes him and an army of Newsies to stop Spot,

including the sacrifice of his shirt buttons.

But really, he just likes to cheer Jack on.

Red is a red-haired Newsie. He wears a light green newsies cap, an olive green vest over a light green shirt, and light brown pants tucked into black boots.

His best friend is Carrot.

The two enjoys a kicking game with a cylindrical item.

When he's not kicking with Carrot, he's playing footsies with Snoddy.

Actor: Dean McFlicker (McFliker)

Chewy wears a dark grey Newsies cap, a brown vest and a light blue pinstriped shirt. He has curly brown hair. He always comes prepared with his official "The World" satchel for carrying his newspapers.

Hobbies includes: pushing an abandoned carriage wheel around

and chewing gum. (It's easier to see in the behind the scenes clips, but I can tell he does it in the movie too)

Makes some really funny facial expressions.

Friends with Swifty.

Can anyone lip read? It looks like he's saying "Hey, something something."

Tries to help Skittery by holding a goon in place for him to punch but Skittery gets punched instead.

Appreciates Racetrack's jokes.

Snitch/ Itey/ Jake Friendship Appreciation

"Look they're putting up a headline" (They're always in the same order during the dances, it's always Snitch, Itey then Jake)

The trio of friends skips right into line next to each another.

"Hey stupid, that ain't news no more!"

Itey, Snitch and Jake are inseperable!

Skipping ahead (literally) to "The World Will Know," the three once again skips into line next to each other in the same order of Snitch, Itey then Jake.

Behind Boots and Jack.

Sometimes it's just Jake and Itey.

Sometimes, Jake and Snitch.

And other times, it's the bed buddies, Itey and Snitch.

But the best combo is always the three of them together, as in this scene from "The King of New York", before their big number. Snitch's giving Itey a chest pat of support.

Jake's little laugh at Itey getting hit over the head is really cute.

Snitch continuing to eat during the song cracks me up!

"Flashpots are shootin' bright as the sun"

And of course, their big moment in "The King of New York", in the usual order of Snitch, Itey and Jake.

"I'm one high falutin' sonuva gun."

And in reverse order from the front.

Bonus: I wonder why Snitch and Itey sleeps in the same bed. Is it because they are splitting their rent at the Kloppman house or is it because there are not enough beds? The most likely reason I can think of is that Snitch is scared to sleep on his own, he still sucks his thumb and seems to be using Itey as a human teddy bear, so it's probably Itey being nice enough to sleep with him. Maybe that's how they became so close (literally and figuratively). Jake's most likely in the bottom bunk. Maybe they take turns in sleeping with Snitch which makes them really great friends.

Also, I wonder if Itey is disgusted because Snitch's feet is dirty and unwashed or is it because it's feet in general? Because he seems really calm by it before seeing that it's Snitch's feet. He wipe his face after throwing off the foot.

If I were Itey, I'd make Snitch scrub his feet before going to bed, not in the morning!

What's awesome, is that they look like friends in real life as well!

Always like Itey's little head shake when Bumlets lands on the table.
