❛ he so likes her! ❜ wiru quinn and jack noticing luke is crushing
PROM NIGHT, l. hughes
part two <3
word count | 832 words
pairings | luke hughes x best friend!reader, platonic!jack & quinn hughes x reader
summary | luke’s brothers notice his crush on his best friend
prompt | ❛ he so likes her! ❜
warnings | not proofread. no use of “y/n”. mutual pining. reader and luke are oblivious. lowercase intended. this is a work of fiction, i am by no means saying this is how they act in real life.
a/n | i’ve been trying to write but i have very little motivation, but here's this! might make a part two if the people want it :)
being in love with your best friend was horrible. knowing he didn’t feel the same was down right torturous. at least, you assumed he didn’t feel the same.
luke hughes had been your best friend since sixth grade, when one of his buddies cruelly pushed into a locker as you had walked past. luke, angered by his friend’s actions, proceeded to shove him into a locker before going to check on you. the rest was history.
you were the golden retriever to his black cat, the sun to his moon, his ride or die. you two had been through thick and thin together, somehow managing to stay friends when no one else thought you would.
unbeknownst to you both, jack and quinn had a bet going on how long it would take for one of you to admit your feelings for the other. a bet that had been placed after your senior prom, a night you could never forget.
it was chilly as you sat outside the gymnasium, no longer caring about dirtying up your dress, the night already ruined. you had found your date with his lips locked with another girl, but that wasn’t what hurt the most: it was seeing your best friend slow dancing with girl; a girl that wasn’t you.
you wiped at the angry and jealous tears as they streamed down your rosy cheeks, angry at yourself for being jealous, angry at yourself for falling for the one boy you could never have.
“hey, there you are! we’ve been look– are you okay?” luke poked his head out the door, concern growing when he noticed the tears that stained your rosy cheeks. you were quick to wipe the remaining tears as luke walked out, letting the door shut behind him. he joined you on the curb as you tried to get rid of the evidence that you had been crying, but it was too late.
“i’m fine, lu. go back in there, have a good time. i’m gonna head home, i’m not feeling the greatest.” you felt guilty about lying to your best friend, not only about not feeling well, but about your feelings.
“you are a terrible liar, you know that?” you couldn’t even look him in the eyes. “fine, don’t tell me, but at least let me drive you home.” you attempted to argue, but luke was stubborn. you both were.
“i don’t want you to miss out on the fun.” you said as luke guided you to his car.
“eh, i wont be missing any fun when the life of the party is in my passenger seat.” luke attempted to entice a smile out of you but it just sent a pang to your heart. “plus, i’d rather hang out with you.” he shrugged.
“what about your date?”
“oh, she snuck off to make out with ex.” you shot him a look of pity, luke shrugging it off as he backed out. “i knew she was using me to make him jealous, but honestly i don't care.” you knew though that luke was hurt by it, at least more than he was letting on. the rest of the ride was silent, your eyes trained out the window until luke drove right past your house.
“luke, you just passed my house.” you looked to your best friend, eyebrows furrowed.
“i know. i figured we could watch a movie.” you internally groaned. he was not helping you get over this crush, that was for sure. still, you went along, following him into the house when you arrived.
it was late, his parents still out wherever they had gone, and quinn and jack were somewhere around the house. you accepted the sweats and shirt luke offered you, going to change out of your dress. when you entered the living room, luke had already picked out your favorite movie and was microwaving popcorn. you sat on the couch, cuddling into a blanket he had laid out.
luke joined you moments later, handing you the bowl of popcorn and taking a seat next to you. he started the movie, but you couldn’t focus, not with him as close as he was to you.
soon, the tiredness began to take over, your eyes drooping. it wasn’t long before luke heard soft snores coming from you, your head resting on his shoulder. it brought a smile to his face as he too began to fall asleep. that was how quinn and jack found the both of you; luke’s head rested against yours which was on his shoulder. quinn placed a blanket over you both, before taking a picture of you, a smile on both your faces.
“he so likes her.” jack snickered, quinn nodding along.
“i bet you fifty bucks he tells her first.” quinn whispered as he sent the picture to his parents who were rooting for you two to get together.
“make it a hundred but it’ll be her.” they shook on it before you leaving you to rest.

"Hey! Nuh uh, none of that!" reader and luke have been best friends since they were kids and recently got together and reader was visiting luke and jack in jersey and jack catches them making out and it’s disgusted seeing his little brtother and the girl he’s watch grow up and is basically his little sister make out
I actually loved writing this! Lukey Pookieeee!!! My first Luke imagine :)) Enjoy!!!
••
The Hughes family had been your second family ever since you were a thought. Jim and your dad were close in college, inseparable when they graduated. Wherever one went, the other followed close behind. Ellen was a second mom to you, and the boys were your brothers that you didn’t have with being an only child.
While it wasn’t necessarily an “arrangement,” both families knew you were destined to fall in love with one of the brothers. You spent any free time with them and had close relationships with each one. Quinn was your go to for advice, Jack was who you went to for a good time, and Luke was your home in human form. He was somebody that made you feel safe to be you. You didn’t have to play charades and act like somebody you’re not. He could see right through that.
You knew you were always the closest to him, but romantic feelings didn’t really develop until he moved to New Jersey with Jack. Contrary to what he tells everybody, he was the one that admitted his feelings first, although he tells everybody that “She just came onto me and I had to do something,” jokingly of course.
You had been helping him pack his childhood room and came across some pictures from summers through the years at the lake house. Some insane courage supported with the feeling of nostalgia brought out some honest conversations. One thing led to another and both of you admitted that you had feelings for one another.
All of that leads to this moment here and now. You had flown to New Jersey to watch the Devils play the Sabres. There was a couple of guys that you wanted to catch up with on the Sabres, but your focus was on Luke currently.
More specifically: Luke hovering above you as you lay on the couch he and his brother shared in their apartment.
“Luke, they’re going to be back soon,” You let out a quiet moan as he was trailing kisses up and down your neck, sucking on the spots that he knew were a weakness for you.
“I’ve caught Jack on several occasions doing worse,” He continued to tug at your hair gently, gaining access to your mouth with his tongue as you let out a louder moan.
“It’s not a big deal, trust me,” He broke apart and gave you a reassuring look accompanied with a peck on your lips.
“I just feel like it’s different…” You trailed off, but a part of you enjoyed the risk of being caught. Everybody knew about the two of you, that wasn’t the problem. Nobody knew the intimate side of you and Luke, and, in a way, that made it that much more special. It was a piece of the universe that only belonged to the two of you.
“I’m not going to do this if your not comfortable-”
You interrupted him with a deep kiss, wrapping his messy curls around your fingertips. His smile became evident, lips moving upwards as the continued to move in synch with yours. Shivers ran up your leg as his fingertips traced up and down the portion of your abdomen that was exposed from your shirt riding up. Ever so gently he pushed the remainder portion of your shirt up, exposing the sports bra that you wore.
Just when things were about to get even more heated, the door to the apartment flew open revealing a wide-eyed Nico, stopping Jack in the middle of his sentence.
"Hey! Nuh uh, none of that," Jack pushed Nico to side, forcing his way through the door, allowing his friend to follow after him.
"Nico, get comfortable because apparently Lukey Pookie here needs a refresher course on the birds and the bees," Jack threw his keys, making his way to the couch where Luke was pinching the bridge of his nose. Nico chuckled, but found refuge in a recliner in the corner of the room.
"I don't think that's-" Luke began, but was immediately interrupted by Jack forcing himself between his brother and the girl he looked at as a little sister.
Jack turned his head, staring at each person on his side with a suggestive raise of his eyebrows.
"I've seen you both in diapers. I've seen you both go through puberty with braces and unhinged emotions, I've seen you both ugly cry over some dumb shit, but I can confidently say that is the most disgusting thing that I have ever seen the two of you do," Jack recalled some crazy moments over the years where things were kind of questionable with you and Luke.
"You're so dramatic," You rolled your eyes and scooted away from him.
"Yeah, well, I don't want to be an uncle yet. At least not the product of you two. Quinn? Maybe. He could afford to let loose a little," Jack suggested, causing Luke snort.
"It wasn't going to go that far....at least not on the couch," You smirked, glancing mischievously at the boy sat beside you.
"Just...use protection and keep it quiet. If you don't have a condom, there's some in my nightstand. I can give you money to go buy some! Grab some cash out of my wallet! I just don't want to see or hear anything from y'all, ok?" Jack was grossed out by the thought of what goes on behind Luke's closed door while you're visiting.
"Hmm, I'll think about it," Luke chirped as he stood up, grabbing your hand to get you to follow him to his room.
As soon as the two of you disappeared, Jack looked at Nico pleadingly.
"You don't think they're..." He trailed off, but Nico knew what he was talking about.
"Surely not," Nico comforted, but a loud, obnoxious, and obviously dramatic moan echoed throughout the apartment.
The guys in the living room couldn't see it, but you and Luke were laughing your asses off. That's one thing the two of you did best, pushed Jack's buttons.
"My apartment will not be a daycare for their lovechild," Jack announced as he got up to grab something to drink from the kitchen.
Nico laughed, enjoying the scene that had played out in front of him.
Who knew Jack and Luke Hughes could provide more entertainment than the NHL?

not so bad ⎜j.drysdale

pairings: jamie drysdale x plus sized! reader genre: fluff warnings: mentions of injury ⎜ slight mention of body discrimination synopsis: after jamie was traded you finally made it to one of your best friends games - you didn't expect things to go so horribly. word count: 5k authors note: there are obviously a few discrepancies from the actual game when jamie got injured but this is what must happen for cute stories. (UNEDITED)

“And please for the love of god, Trevor, don’t forget to lock the door when you leave.” You grumble as you slide out of the passenger side, scurrying around to the trunk to retrieve your suitcase - Trevor already pulling the hard cased bag from the car, placing it on the side walk for you.
“Yeah, yeah, I think I can manage to look after your cat for a week.” He huffs, waving your off as you raise your brow at him. You had spent the last thirty minutes in the car making sure he knew how to care for your six month old kitten - despite the cat already being quite self sufficient and having an automatic feeder you wanted to make sure someone was checking on him at least once a day, hence your stressed instructions to Trevor on the drive to the airport.
“Okay, I’m trusting you.” You say, pulling your keys out of your pocket and handing them over to the eager hockey player.
“Me and bean are going to have so much fun.” He coos, shoving the keys into his pocket before reaching over and giving you a tight squeeze. “Make sure to tell him I’ll be watching his game.” He adds and you nod, squeezing him back before stepping onto the pathway pulling your suitcase with you as you watch Trevor pull away from the curb.
You tug your phone from your pocket checking your flight information one last time before heading inside to check in. After Jamie had been traded almost a month ago you had been with little to no contact while he settled in to his new environment, both you and Trevor feeling the effects of your quiet best-friends absence.
It was when you finally managed to catch Jamie between his schedules he invited you to Philadelphia to visit him, requesting your help in setting up his new apartment in the city - he luckily had managed to snag a fully furnished apartment - in his words it just needed a ‘piece of home’, so the two of you had quickly managed to book in a week for you to fly to Philadelphia.
With Trevors reckless driving you had managed to make it to your flight with an hour to spare, taking your time at the cafe near your boarding gate to scroll mindlessly on your phone until you heard the first calls for your flight to board. With an estimated flight time of five and a half hours you were very glad for the kindle Jamie had gifted you at the last Christmas dinner.
“I know we said we weren’t doing presents this year but I wanted to get you something I thought you’d find useful.” Jamie had whispered as he leaned over to your side as the conversation continued in the room. He placed the small wrapped gift in your lap with a nervous smile his eyebrows raised in anticipation as he waits for you to unwrap the gift.
“I wrapped it myself.” He adds quickly, pointing out the red wrapping paper covered in Mario characters holding presents. You send him a quick smile before ripping the paper open gently - tucking the remnants into your bag to add to your keepsake box in the back of your closet - you pull out the amazon branded box looking down at the kindle now in your lap with a growing smile.
“I know how much you love to read and my mum recommended this one.” Jamies explains before pointing to the torn box, “I already took the liberty to download some that my mum said you’d like and I put a gift card in the box so you can buy some more when you feel like it.”
You can feel your heart beating against your chest as you look up at the sweet boy besides you, his hands fiddling in his lap as he waits for you to say something. “It’s perfect, Jamie.” You mumble, smiling at him with a short nod as you close the distance between you placing a gentle kiss on his cheek. “Thank you.” You add shifting back in your seat as Jamie does the same a bright red tinge on his cheeks.
That was almost a year ago and you had filled the kindle with over a hundred books since then, somehow managing to convince Jamie to get one for himself after he had listen to your high praise for the device.
Sliding into your seat on the plane and placing your kindle on your lap you sent a quick message to your trios group chat.
‘Princess Peach 🍑 : on the plane about to take off - should be there around six tonight.’
‘Mario 🥸: I’ll be waiting’
‘Wario 👨🏻‍🦲: me and beans are excited for you to be gone.’ Trevor sends with a photo of your kitten glaring up at the man, quickly followed by another message.
‘Wario 👨🏻‍🦲: hey who changed my name.’
‘Wario 👨🏻‍🦲: I’m supposed to be Luigi.’
‘ Mario 🥸 : lol.’  You chuckle at the messages before switching your phone to airplane mode and tucking it into your pocket, sliding your headphones over your ears as the flight attendants finish their spiel on safety and move to their own seats.
+
+
Six hours in a small seat trying to avoid making any contact with the person sitting besides you really has a way of stiffening every muscle in your body. You roll your shoulders as you wait for the others in your row to gather their belongings, deciding it best to wait for most of the flight to empty out before attempting to make your own way.
As soon as you had turned off airplane mode on your phone, it had started dinging with messages.
‘Wario 👨🏻‍🦲: I’m changing my name back.’
‘Wario 👨🏻‍🦲 has set the nickname to Luigi 👴🏻’
‘Luigi 👴🏻: that’s so much better.’
‘Mario 🥸 has set the nickname to donkey kong 🦍’
‘ donkey kong 🦍 : knock it off.’
‘ donkey kong 🦍 : @princess peach🍑 please tell him to stop bullying me’
‘Mario 🥸: she would never’
‘Princess Peach 🍑: I would never’  you respond quickly before deeming it time to grab your bag from the overhead storage and follow your fellow passengers off the plain, making sure to bid a quick ‘thank you’ to the flight attendants standing by the exit. Your phone dings again in your hand as you making it into the boarding area.
‘bestfriend ❤️: I’m waiting outside your flights baggage collection - do you still have the white suitcase?’ Jamies message albeit simple gives you butterflies, the idea that after so long apart you were finally going to see him made you giddy.
‘trevor’s bestie ❤️: yep, the one with the blue tag on the side.’  You send your reply frowning at the sudden change in nick name, Trevor must’ve have figured out your passcode again. You roll your eyes but tuck your phone back into side pocket of your leggings, pulling on the hoodie from your carry on, knowing Philadelphia this time of year was a lot colder than Anaheim.
Jamie is easy to spot in front of the baggage carousel, his eyes focused on the passing bags as he waits for yours to slide past him. You watch him with a soft smile as he steps forwards to help a lady pull her oversized suitcase off the line before helping another lady besides her, nodding quickly as they thank him, stepping forwards once more to pull your bag off the line, placing it delicately at his side as he glances around the waiting area, pulling his phone quickly from his pocket his thumbs typing.
‘bestfriend ❤️: I have taken your bag hostage - if you wish for it to be returned you must be in front of me in the next 60 seconds.’  Your phone dings with the arrival of the message, your feet moving quickly as you sneak up behind him, tapping his shoulder lightly once your reach him.
“Miss me?” You question cheerfully, Jamie’s eyes widening as he turns around.
“I didn’t think you’d actually get here this fast.” He says, placing a hand on his chest as he lets out a shaky breath, “Scared the crap out of me.”
“Sorry.” You apologise waiting for him to move before deciding it’s best if you initiate contact. Throwing your arms over his shoulders, you pull him in for a tight hug, his arms immediately wrapping around your waist as he hoists you up, his arms pulling you in even closer as your feet dangle off the floor.
“I personally didn’t miss you at all.” You chuckle into his neck as he sways a little his own face buried into your shoulder, you can feel the grin on his lips as he gently places you down on the ground, not quite letting go of you yet.
“I missed you so much.” He mumbled, nuzzling into your shoulder a little more before finally pulling away, his hand grabbing for your suitcase as his other hand reaches out for yours.
“Trevor wanted me to tell you he’d be watching the game tomorrow.” You say as you take hold of Jamie’s hand, letting him lead the way out of the airport.
“He better be.” Jamie says, “he has nothing better to do these days.”
+
+
The drive to Jamie’s new place from the airport takes longer than normal, as he stops around to pick up a few bits a pieces to help make your stay with him more comfortable - snacks being his highest priority.
“I know it’s not the fanciest but its cozy and it has two bedrooms so it was perfect for friends to come visit.” Jamie warns as he parks his car in the garage under his building. You’re quick to roll your eyes at his statement, if the outside of the building was anything to go by the apartment was going to be more than ‘cozy’.
“I’m sure it’ll be fine.” You respond, undoing your seatbelt and slipping out of the car, dragging your backpack with you trying to make your way to grab your suitcase before Jamie could beat your to it.
You’ll give him one thing, for how built he was, he could move faster then most people. Jamie grins as he pulls your suitcase from the trunk of his car, holding it in one hand the other grabbing for the grocery bags. “Too slow.” He teases as he shuts the trunk, guiding you to the elevator.
You just watch as he gets in the moving metal box scanning his access key and pressing the tenth floor your reasonably heavy suitcase comfortable in his hand. “You know the suitcase has wheels, right?” You question.
“Yep.” Jamie says quickly, nodding his head as he adds, “But how would I show off how strong I am, if I just wheeled it around.” His statement pulls a shocked laugh from you as the elevator stops announcing it’s arrival on the tenth floor. Jamie once again moves quickly walking to his door and pressing a few numbers into the keypad.
“Not fancy, my ass.” You grumble as he pushes his door open, moving inside placing your suitcase by the door, and the groceries on the dining room table.
“Welcome.” He exclaims arms out wide as he lets you take in his space. It was definitely fully furnished, the house looking like it came from a home decor magazine, but it didn’t have the comfort a home should have. Jamie had already started adding a few decorations of his own, his and Trevors ducks jerseys hanging side by side in large frames besides the living room T.V, a few photo frames with his friends and family lining the shelves besides the window.
“This place is great, Jamie.” You exclaim, as you reach for your suitcase, lying it on the floor as you dig around for your present. “But you were right when you said it was missing something.” You continue finally grabbing hold of the rolled up fabric in your bag.
You smile as you hand it to him watching the fabric unroll, the man looking down at the blanket in confusion. “Your mum sent me some of your old jerseys that weren’t going to any use, and Trevor asked the equipment manager if I could have some ducks ones as a parting gift.” You begun to explain, motioning to the logos from the jerseys of every team he had played on. “Most of it is made up of jerseys from your time with the ducks, and I had to buy a Philadelphia one to finish it off.” You finish motions to the orange square at the bottom of the blanket.
“You made me a blanket?” Jamie asks quietly.
You nod.
“Out of all my old jerseys?” He asks again.
You nod.
“Do you like it?” You asks slowly, watching his face for any sign of distain. Jamie glances towards you for a moment before taking off down the hallway, his feet sliding against the wooden floorboards as he enters the room at the end of the hall.
“It’s perfect.” He yells, your feet moving to follow him. You glance around the corner into the bedroom, Jamie smoothing the blanket over his bed with one of the biggest smiles you had ever seen. “It’s perfect.” He says again.
“Well, I’m glad you like it.” You respond, your hands clasped behind your back, “Now show me my room.”
+
+
“Are you sure your okay to make your own way there?” Jamie asks as he straightens out his dark grey suit, his hair freshly washed and pushed away from his forehead. Your night with Jamie had consisted of Chinese takeaway and a lot of gossip about Trevors new girlfriend - the two of you eventually falling asleep on the couch while watching ‘love is blind’ on Netflix.
You had woken up in the guest room, unsure how Jamie had managed to move you with such ease.
“I’ll be fine, it’s like a ten minute Uber.” You reassure, reaching out the smooth out the collar on his shirt. Jamie was heading to the rink early as most players did on game day, wanting the chance to start warming up and checking their equipment.
“Oh before I forget.” Jamie says quickly, reaching into his practice bag pulling out a large ID hanging on a lanyard. “I grabbed you one of these so you have access to the family room if it’s too overwhelming down near the ice, it also gets you free food at the concession stands.” He says quickly handing you the lanyard.
‘Jamie Drysdale - Friends and Family - All Access’ Printed in large letters on the front, the lanyard covered in big block letters spelling out ‘VIP’
“You didn’t have to Jamie, you already got me those rink side tickets.” You complain looking down at the pass again.
“Well I didn’t have to pay for this - and it’s just in case of emergencies, I don’t want you to get stuck with security if you need something.” He explains and you nod slowly, tucking the pass close to your chest as you glance up at him. “I’ll see you after the game, okay? Meet me near the locker room.” He says softly, reaching forwards to tuck a lose piece of hair behind your ear.
The silence is thick between the two of you - Jamie hand resting on the side of your neck as he opens his mouth to say something, closing it quickly after. He doesn’t say anything as he shoots you another grin, picking up his phone and keys by the door, quietly exiting his apartment.
You let out a long sigh, the feeling of his hand still tingling on your skin.
Now was probably a good time to get ready.
+
+
You checked your outfit one more time in the mirror - the flared leggings doing wonders to make your legs look longer and slimmer, you favourite hoodie layered under one of Jamie’s new Philadelphia jerseys - usually you wouldn’t wear a jersey to a game often feeling they made you look awkward and desperate when hanging around with your two friends, but for the first game you were watching of Jamie’s in his new team you felt it was necessary to show your support.
Slinging your bag over your shoulder, your grab the spare set of keys Jamie had left for you, tapping on your phone to order the Uber to take you to the rink. The car arrived quickly, game days often being a easy money making day for Uber drivers, the man greeting you and confirming your destination as you slide into the backseat of his car.
“You a Philly fan?” The drivers asks as he glances at you in the rearview mirror.
“Not really - I’m actually from Anaheim but my friend recently moved here and I just wanted to support him.” You explain the driving nodding before asking.
“Your boyfriend, is he a player?”
“Oh no, we’re just friends.” You correct the driver raising an eyebrow as he turns his gaze back to the road.
“Not many friends would fly across the country to watch a hockey game.” The driver continues, a smile breaking out on his face as you stare like a deer caught in headlights. “Must be some friendship you two have.” He adds driving the needle further into your chest as you think about your friendship.
The crowds begin to grow as you close in on the rink, the driver giving you a kind smile as he stops outside the front entrance. “I hope you have fun at the game.” The driver says as you swing open the back door, “Tell your friend how lucky he is to have you.” He adds as you shut the door, you can see him smiling as the car pulls away from the curb, shaking your head at the friendly mans antics.
As you make your way into the building scanning your ticket at the front door - grabbing a quick bottle of water from a concession stand before making your way to your seat just in time to see both teams fly onto the ice for warm ups. Taking your seat you smile at the two girls sitting a few seats down, pulling your phone out of you pockets to snap photos of number 9.
‘Jamie’s not-so-bestie 😈: snapped a few photos of our special little guy.’ You send the message to Trevor rolling your eyes at yet another name change in your phone.
A hard bang on the glass has you looking up from your phone, Jamie staring down at you with furrowed brows. “Trevor.” You mouth his head nodding, as he flicks his puck into his hand, showing it to you before throwing it over the glass, the puck easily caught in your hands. Jamie watches you as he take a few steps away from your seat, handing it over to the girls sitting a little further away.
“He wanted me to pass this to you.” You say as you hand it to one of the girls, both letting out high pitched squeals as they glance towards your best friend.
“Where’s your pass?” He mouths through the glass, motioning his hands around his neck, your hand tapping your bag, pulling out one corner to show him where your stored it. He nods quickly, waving a quick goodbye as he skates away, doing a few laps around the ice before stopping to stretch closer to the bench.
“I always knew Jamie would be into bigger girls.” One of the teenagers exclaims, both looking you up and down before leaning together and whispering. “She is really pretty though.” The others replies.
You glance down at yourself with a sigh, settling back into your seat, your arms wrapped around yourself.  The game starts soon after the flyers and penguins taking to the ice in a close game. You watch on the edge of your seat as Jamie moves quickly around the ice - occasionally taking a second to respond to one of Trevors messages. The first period ends with the penguins ahead by one - Jamie exiting the ice with slumped shoulders.
You knew how tough on himself Jamie could be when the game wasn’t going his way - and being on a new time, you could guess the pressure he was putting on himself was multiplied. Waiting for the second period you glance down at your phone, liking a photo on your instagram before a tap on your shoulder catches your attention.
“So, do you know him or something?” One of the girls ask as she takes a seat next to you, her friend moving to sit besides her as they both wait for your answer.
“Or something.” You respond, looking back to your phone as it dings.
‘bestfriend ❤️: does the game look as bad as it feels?’ You move to respond before one of the girls asks another question.
“So are you two dating?” She says and you shrug waiting as she adds, “you just don’t seem like the type to be with a hockey player.” Her friend slaps her shoulder as they both giggle, “You can’t say that.” He friend laughs as you just roll your eyes typing quickly on your phone.
‘trevor’s bestie ❤️: the game is tight. You’re playing great.’ You send the message to Jamie. The two girls remain besides you as the second period starts, the flyers managing a goal to tie the game, the play moving fast as the penguins manage to score a third goal with less than nine minutes left in the period.
You try to stay positive, hockey being a game where score reversals can happen so fast, the play restarting at centre ice the puck making its way back and forth on the ice before being hit high into the air. Jamie skates his way to the red line, swatting the puck back down to the ice before taking off with it.
He gets past one penguin making his way into the offensive zone before he gets rammed into - his body hits the ice hard, you can see his mouth open in a pain filled hiss as he rolls to his side, his right hand gripping his left shoulder.
“Shit.” You curse, jumping up from your seat as you watch him move. Jamie makes his way onto his feet, his left arm hanging limply by his side, the boy skating quickly off the ice into the locker room. You ignore the fans cheering as the two teams go head to head in a scrum, your mind racing as you take two stairs at a time.
‘Jamie’s real bestie 😈 is calling.’
“Is he okay? What the fuck was that.” Trevor yells into the phone, as you speed walk through the building.
“I don’t know - he didn’t look okay.” You respond stopping one of the workers who’s in a Philadelphia branded shirt. “Excuse me, do you know where the locker room is?” You question, the man looking at you with confusion as you fish around in your bag, your phone still pressed to your ear as you grab hold of the VIP pass.
“It’s his shoulder, Trev. It looked dislocated.” You say into your phone as the man walks quickly with you behind him, stopping outside a roped off area, whispering quietly to one of the security guards who slowly walks away. “I’m going to see if I can check on him.” Trevor swears a few times before making you promise to text him once you know if Jamie is okay, the two of you ending the phone call quickly as the security guard comes back.
“We don’t let most people in the locker room.” The security guard says quickly and you nod. “Can I see your pass please.” He adds quickly, handing over the lanyard and pass as he glances over it. His eyes widen a little as he sees the players name on your pass before handing it back to you.
“What’s your relation to the player?” The security guard asks and you hesitate.
“His girlfriend.” You splutter out the guard nodding before holding up one of the ropes for you to slip under - he motions for you to follow behind him as he walks to the entrance of the room, holding out a hand for you to stop.
“We have someone claiming to be Jamie’s girlfriend outside, she wants to come in.” You heard the guard say into the room, a few people mumble back words of confusion and disagreement with letting you inside.
“Let her in.” Jamie voice cuts through, before he lets out a painful whimper, “Please.” He adds quickly. You don’t wait for permission, rounding the corner to walk into the locker room, a small gasp escaping you as you take in Jamie. His eyes are squeezed shut as the trainers work carefully to remove his pads, his shoulder clearly out of it’s socket.
Jamie lets out another yelp as they lift his arm to unclip the chest pads, both trainers apologising as they gently place it back by his side. You take a few steps forwards, Jamie’s eyes opening at the sound of your approaching, his bright blue eyes finding yours as he reaches out his right hand.
“Oh Jamie.” You sigh as you take his hand in yours, your other reaching out to move his hair out of his face. He lets out a long sigh as he turns his head to face your, burying it in your stomach as he lets out a long groan as the trainers rotate his arm slowly, your face scrunching in a grimace as you watch the joint slide back into place, your hand stroking gently across his hair.
Jamie lets out a sigh of relief as the trainers drop his arm into his lap, the joint now comfortable back in the socket. “Are you okay?” You ask, Jamie just nodding his head against you, his body melting into your side as your hand moves from his hair to rub soft circles on his back.
“Lucky for you Jamie, I think we’ve saved you a trip to the ER.” The trainer says pulling out a triangle bandage, making quick work of wrapping Jamie’s arm in a sling “Bad news is you’ll still have to go to the hospital for an X-ray to make sure everything is where it is meant to be.” The trainer adds, finishing off Jamie’s sling before turning to you.
“Are you in a position to drive him over?” The trainer questions and you nod quickly, “We will ring ahead to try and get you two in and out as quickly a possible.” You thank the trainer, before moving Jamie’s head away from your body, crouching down in front of him.
“Do you wanna get changed before we go?” You ask, Jamie just nodding slowly, his eyes shooting over to the equipment manager already holding a fresh set of clothes. “I’ll wait outside, okay?” You reassure pressing a quick kiss to his forehead before leaving the room.
‘Jamie’s not-so-bestie 😈: He’s okay, left shoulder was dislocated but one of the trainers managed to get it back in, so we’re heading to the hospital to get a quick X-ray.” You send the message to Trevor, your gaze lifting from your phone as Jamie trudges out of the locker room, his arm tight in his sling, a black hoodie thrown on with a pair of sweatpants.
“They know you’re coming, just go straight to the imaging wing and give them Jamies name.” The trainer explains, handing Jamies backpack to you with a gentle smile. He pats Jamie on the back before heading back into the room. Jamies free hand reaches out to grip yours, pulling you in the direction of the parking garage.
“Thank you.” Jamie says quietly as you reach his car, throwing his bag in the backseat before helping him slide into the passenger side.
“Theres no need to thank me, Jamie.” You reassure, racing around to get into the drivers seat. As soon as you’ve reversed out of the spot, Jamie’s hand finds your again, his fingers laced with yours, his thumb stroking the back of your hand softly. You glance over at him every now and then, his eyes squeezed shut, his jaw tight as the car jostles him.
“We’ll be home before you know it.” You coos, trying to drive as smoothly as possible.
+
+
Jamie’s trainer was right, the trip to the hospital couldn’t have been more then an hour, the doctor giving Jamie the all clear to go home with some pain relief and instructions for strict rest, he would be in touch with the Philadelphia team to decide on a treatment plan.
Jamie is silent as you drive the two of you back to his apartment, his hand never leaving yours as you make your way into his apartment moving him over to the couch in front of the TV.
“I’m gonna grab you some food and water so you can take your pills.” You say quickly, but Jamie just shakes his head, his hand squeezing yours as he pulls you back to him.
“Just stay.” He says softly, “Sit with me for a little.” He adds, his head falling to your shoulder as you take the spot besides him on the couch. Both your hands clasp his, fiddling with his fingers as his breathing slows.
“Thank you.” He says again.
“You really don’t have to thank me, Jamie. It’s what friends do.” You respond, the boy letting out a scoff.
“Most friends wouldn’t fly across the country to watch a hockey game.” He sulks, the words from your Uber driver earlier ringing in your ears.
“I guess I’m not like most friends.” You coo, a smile lighting up on Jamie’s face.
“I guess not.” He says softly before asking, “So, are we like offical now or something?” The words making your snort as you glance down at him.
“What are you talking about?”
“You… Me… Us. You said you were my girlfriend.” He explains, his words gentle as he shifts his head against your shoulder, your eyes meeting. “I really want you to be my girlfriend.” He sense the way you hesitate, quickly moving to take back his statement.
“Isn’t it obvious Jamie?” You ask, “would just a friend really fly six hours just to watch a hockey game?”

A Future With You
Luke Hughes x oc
"Okay, but do we really need a second bedroom?" Luke asks, his arms wrapped around my body as I lean against his chest, the laptop rested on my thighs as we search for apartments, thinking a lot lately about when I graduate from Michigan and get to finally move to Jersey.
"Where will your brother's stay if we don't have a second room?"
"On the couch?" Lu supplies as if it should have been clear. "Or Jack can stay at his own apartment and Quinn can stay with him."
"And your parents?"
"We'll book them a hotel room."
"Lu, we can't just make your family stay in a hotel, they'll be here to visit us, that's rude," He clearly doesn't understand, because he gets his cute little confused face, mouth pouty and eyebrows furrowed.
"Plus, if we have a guest room now, we may not have to move into a new place for a while, we'll be able to just redecorate if the time comes," I can't help but mention, glancing up hesitantly, and the confused look hasn't changed.
I'm going to actually have to say this out loud. And while Lu and I have discussed living together a lot, down to now looking at apartments online, and we've discussed getting married one day, we've never discussed this.
Kids.
"What do you mean, baby?" He asks when I've paused for too long.
"Uh." What am I supposed to say? For when we have babies one day? "You know, for the future."
And it's now that his confusion is morphed into joy, him moving my laptop to the floor and flipping me over so that my front is facing his, his arms around me tightening as he kisses me.
"Are you talking about having kids with me?" And the absolute look of hope on his face makes me want to cry tears of joy.
"I didn't mean to assume that you'd want to have kids with me, I just- it breaks my heart to even consider a future without you but -"
"Never think like that," He interrupts, smile smaller than before as he cups my face. "Never think of a future without me in it, cause if I'm not in it I'm dead."
"Lu-"
"No," He interrupts again. "You need to know that I plan to marry you. Hell-" Is the next thing to come out of his mouth, moving from under me and earning a groan of disapproval, but he's back a second later, a small box in his hand and his heart rate skyrocketing as he retakes his place behind me.
"Luke, what is that?" I can't help but ask, even though I'm almost positive in the answer.
"It's the ring I bought for you right after our first anniversary," He begins to explain, bringing tears to my eyes. "Hey now, please don't cry baby."
And I shove him, not hard, but enough against his chest for him to get the memo. "You just told me you bought a ring for me after our first anniversary, A YEAR AND A HALF AGO and you expect me not to cry?"
"I need you to know, I was not planning on showing this to you, or giving this to you, for a while. I just knew I was going to marry you and bought it with my sign-on check for the Devils."
"Do you want an answer? Need an answer? Are you actively proposing or just showing me that you've thought about it?"
Lu chuckles, running him hand that's not holding the closed box through my hair and letting it rest on my shoulder.
"You need to know that I was going to do it this summer. Take you to the lake house, take you to that little bookstore-cafe type place I let you talk me into for our first date and propose," he explains, tears pouring down my face. And he looks at me with such a soft expression that I just know I'll forever feel at home with this boy.
"Would you be okay with me just asking you n-"
"Yes," I interrupt, not caring about what comes next.
Chuckling, he shakes his head, the curls moving this way and that. "Yes you're okay with me asking now or yes to the question?"
"Both," I answer without a second thought. "God Lu just ask me to marry you already!"
"Mackenzie-"
"Yes."
"- will you -"
"Yes."
"Marry me? Not now, but at some point?" And although he knows my answer, he looks nervous.
"Luke Hughes there is no universe where I say no to spending forever with you," I assure, kissing him softly before he slips the ring, a gorgeous one that could have come straight from my dreams, onto my finger, pulling me as close to his chest as humanly possible. We stay like this, just resting together in excitement and love before I can feel his head shift back to looking at me.
"So, kids?" Are the words he chooses the re-start our conversation from earlier, making me giggle.
"One day."

"The first sip is joy, the second is gladness, the third is serenity, the fourth is madness, the fifth is ecstasy." - Jack Kerouac
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Summary In July of 2023, Evie looked at a list of cities in North America and rolled a die. Just like that, she packed up her life and moved to Chicago, a fresh start. The 2023-24 NHL season started well for Tito; he did not expect the call on November 28th telling him that he was being traded. To the worst team in the league. And just like that. 10 months after being ripped from his home, he had to pack up and move again. To an unfamiliar city, and to unfamiliar faces. Which is why, when Tito and Evie ran into each other, quite literally, on Christmas morning, they both latched on to a familiar face. Over the next few months, they became close friends. They didn’t talk about the nights shared in Chicago clubs.  They didn’t need to. Because they're just friends.  Right?

Author's Notes: This fic was written for @bqstqnbruin as part of the Winter Fic Exchange 2k24 hosted by @wyattjohnston. It got so out of control long so quickly. I genuinely had so much fun writing this, it's basically my magnum opus; if you look closely, I think you can probably see my soul in there somewhere. I would like to thank @devilssacrament, @wyattjohnston, and @forgottenflowers for being my editors, holding my hand and keeping me sane in this. Also, thanks to @swissboyhisch, and @imperatorrrrr for being a sounding board for ideas . All of your help and support has meant so much to me. You are all just the fucking best, I am sorry this has been my entire personality for the past month, I will probably return to normal soon. Probably...
Tropes: a gut-wrenching mix of angst and fluff with a happy ending, slow burn friends to lover (tbh, idiots to lovers let's be real), alternating POVs
Warnings: alcohol (one instance of alcohol poisoning by side character), mature content bordering on smut (mostly occurring in clubs/public), references to a toxic past relationship. Disclaimer: This series is set in Chicago but does not mention the name of the team based there. Only other Chicago players mentioned by name are: Nick Foligno, Jason Dickinson and Connor Bedard. Other notes: NHL players featured Mat Barzal (a heavily featured supporting character/bestie) and brief mentions of Zach Hyman and Matt Martin. Assume that Tito and Evie are always speaking in French with each other.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Face claim for Evie (if you want one, but you can imagine whoever you like): Adeline Rudolph
Fun Tidbits: Original Character (she/her) called Genevieve Gignac or Evie (pronounced eh-vee) is the oldest sibling of Tito's juniors teammate and friend Brandon Gignac. Along with their other sibling Wiliam, they grew up in Montreal. Evie had been living in Toronto for six years, before moving to Chicago in the summer before the fic starts. I did way too much research so a lot of the little facts are true. Nicknames: (ma) chouette (shoo-wet): owl (mon) chou/chouchou (shoo): in practice, honey, sugar, baby, sweetheart // by definition, my cabbage or my profiterole/cream puff (depends who you ask) Solours (soul-oars): the Québécois name for the yellow Care Bear with the smiling sun on its belly Solou’ (soul-oo): a diminutive Evie decides to use
Cook, Cook, drink your tea, But save some in the pot for me. We'll watch the tea leaves in our cup When our drink is all sipped up. Happiness or fortune great, What will our future be? -- "Afternoon Tea at Pittock Mansion" by R.Z. Berry

Episode Synopses:
Blue Christmas Evie and Tito are both starting life anew in Chicago. It's an unfamiliar city with unfamiliar faces. They're both alone on Christmas. Maybe it's fate that brings them together. Jason and Alandra Dickinson are already smelling smoke from this fire.
I. Winter Tito injures his wrist in the first game of 2024, he’s out for 6-8 weeks and then his car breaks down. He thinks maybe he’s cursed. Evie becomes a shoulder to lean on. Barzy gets suspicious.
Pal-entine’s Day Tito returns her kindness by being a shoulder Evie can lean on when she is having a hard time after all-star break. She tells him it’s anxiety about work. He brings her a box of pastries and they cuddle on the couch all day; he doesn’t realize it’s Valentine’s Day. Later, a hook-up goes very wrong.
Four-leaf Clover Tito’s been playing again, and during his first stretch of away games begins to miss home. Well, Evie’s home anyway. When he sees her in the bar, he can’t help but show it. Barzy calls him out on his lies.
Evie’s Birthday Sometimes the music moves you. Sometimes the bass pounding in your chest makes you do things you wouldn’t do. Fuck it, it’s your birthday. That’s what Evie tells herself anyway. There are gifts given, but there are also secrets kept.
II. Spring Tito tries to tell her— he does— It’s just he needs to find the right time, and something keeps coming up. Evie’s honest with herself. But does that even matter? Mat decides maybe it is his time to intervene.
Not Goodbye Evie realizes that her time is running out. To do what? She doesn’t know. But she has one last night to find out. That is until— Well. It’s too late now. Tito flies home and wonders if that will be the worst mistake of his life.
III. Summer They try to get on with their summers as if nothing is wrong, convincing no one. How long will it take them to realize they can’t keep pretending like everything’s fine? And who will finally take the leap of faith?
Tito’s Birthday Tito receives the best birthday present he has ever gotten: the girl he loves standing at his parent’s front door. It was never destiny or fate; it can only be by choice. And they’ll choose each other every time. Eventually, anyway.

BFF's 4 Life
Set in the world of Loving You Is As Easy as ABC 123
Here are my head cannons, on before Quinn and the reader became a couple.
You and Quinn lived together for eight months before he finally found a place for himself. In that time the two of you grew very close.
Quinn was very sad to leave and debated just staying with you, but in the end he decided to go through with the move because his new place was closer to Rogers arena.
He did try to convince you to move in with him, but you didn't because your apartment was closer to the university and work.
Quinn would come into the coffee shop that you worked at every time you were working. And every time, without fail, you would present him with some obscene concoction of sugar and caffine that no one had ever heard of.
"I swear to god, i'm gonna get diabetes because of you." Yet without fail he would drink every last drop.
During covid, you started going on morning runs because otherwise, you would've gone crazy. Especially having all of your uni classes online.
Quinn started joining you after a while because he was also going crazy, and the runs really really helped, especially because he got to do them with you.
You were also the one who taught Quinn how to cook during this time. And you were genuinely infuriated when he became a better cook than you. "I'll never forgive you" you grumble, while Quinn cackles as he pulls burnt aspargus out of the oven. "Student becomes the master" he shrugs, and you throw a handful of asparagus at him.
When Quinn got covid, you showed up at his apartment covered head to toe, complete with gloves, a mask, and eyewear, holding a container of chicken noodle soup.
Quinn laughed, immediately took a photo and then proceeded to launch into a coughing fit so bad he turned the colour of a tomato.
At which point you took a photo of him. The two of you keep the photos as blackmail, and if either of you were to ever use them, all hell would break loose.
You own so so so much canuck gear, it's unhinged (courtesy of Quinn of course.) You joked about starting to sell some stuff on eBay, and Quinn looked so genuinely distraught that you never made that joke again.
When you officially started teaching, all the canuck gear came in handy. Especially when you were being lazy and didn't have time to pick an outfit.
At first everyone thought you were just a Canuck super-fan, until one day Quinn had to drop you off at work because your car was in the shop.
Then of course everyone though the two of you were dating. Which got really annoying.
The first time you officially brought Quinn to class was because he had a full day off and didn't know what to do with himself. He begged you to take the day off to spend it with him, but "Some of us have real jobs Quinn."
"Hey! My job is real"
"Well, unfortunately for you I can't just not show up. You had to have given me at least a two day notice so I could've found a substitute."
"Y/nnnnn," he whined, flopping off your bed dramatically while you finished getting dressed. "What am I supposed to do all day?"
" If you're really so concerned about being bored to death, get dressed and come help me be a glorified babysitter for the day" you snorted
Quinn's head snapped up excitedly "wait seriously?"
You were joking, but it happened anyway.
The kids were so well-behaved that you debated bringing Quinn to work with you every day.
Whenever you were on a break, Quinn pestered you to be hanging out with him the whole time. Which usually ended up with recipe expiramenting, Quinn helping you mark papers and lesson plan, or Quinn dragging you along to practice/games/events etc.
One time, he even pestered you to come on a week long roadie with him during winter break. To which you declined - because that was definitely stepping over a 'best friend' relationship line, and you were under the firm impression that Quinn would never love you the way you loved him.
The guys always teased him mercilessly about being in love with you.
"For fucks sake, Huggy. Are you blind? Do you see the way she looks at you?"
After Quinn became captain, whenever his teammates threatened to tell you that he was in love with you he threatened to make them do bag skates for an entire practice.
They shut up really quick after that.
The team loves you, and they always say that whenever they have kids they are sending them to the school you teach at.
Whenever Quinn watched you interact with Kids he gets a little starry eyed and drooly.
Quinn is a very common topic of conversation in your classroom. You often use him as your muse whenever you're doing projects.
He loves it, and he keeps every single piece you've done on him. From art projects, to Health projects.
You even managed to use him in a math project once. (You used little cutouts of his head as addition blocks, he laughed so hard he was crying.)
If Quinn has a game on a week day, you try to wear some form of his merchandise, and he always asks for a fit picture.
Quinn never ever ever let you pay for anything. "You don't even make 1/10th of my salary"
"Way to make a girl feel good about her job,"
"Wait, I didn't mean it like that im sor- no wait. I'm not insulting your job, I'm insulting the people that pay you. You are literally raising our future generations, and the government pays you like trash. If anything, our salaries should be reversed. I basically work in the entertainment industry."
"Ok, well I can still afford to pay for my own shit" you grumble.
Quinn rolls his eyes. "Don't be so stubborn. Put your plastic bank card away. it's insulting in my presence"
"Sorry we don't all have metal fucking credit cards that make noise when we drop them" you spit back.
It continues to be a fight every. single. time.
Whenever you do somehow manage to pay, Quinn is fuming and throughly debates not talking to you for a week.
He never lasts more than a couple hours.
Whenever Quinn left for the summer, you got really lonely. Especially because as a teacher, you had the whole summer off.
He always invited you to come to Michigan with him, but there was always a nagging in your head about "crossing the best friend line"
One summer, you decided to teach summer school for high-schoolers to keep yourself busy. And it was fucking hell. Hormonal sweaty teenagers trying to learn a subject in three weeks rather than four months was so so bad.
Quinn gladly listened to you complain every day, "shoulda come to michigan with me." He would shrug
"Mom and dad have been asking about you," he would throw in quietly.
Which leads us into your relationship with Quinn's family.
Over the six years that the two of you have been friends you've met his parents and both his brothers.
Luke was fourteen, and Jack was sixteen when you met them for the first time.
They both fell IN LOVE with you.
They would call you to ask for homework help, often saying something like, "You're a teacher, what do i do?"
"I'm not a teacher yet, guys. I still have to finish my degree, you know." You would laugh awkwardly and help them anyways.
You blamed both Jack and Luke for the dreadful summer you taught high-schoolers. Simply because you had enjoyed teaching Jack and Luke so much, you thought it would be the same.
They had much the same response as their shithead older brother "you should've come to michigan"
As they grew and saw how you and Quinn looked at each other, they would tease him mercilessly as good brothers do.
"Dude, if you don't confess, I'll marry her." sixteen year old Luke would smirk
That had Quinn seething, and it was quite funny. "You fucking imbecile."
"Mom! Quinn called me a bad word!"
Jack was often cackling in the background or telling Quinn to stop being the world's biggest dumbass.
The day you saw Luke in person and he had grown taller than you, you collapsed dramatically into his arms and pinched his cheeks aggressively. Crying about your favourite little kiddo being all grown up.
Ever the awkward teenager Luke just blushed and grumbled about not being a baby.
Whenever Jack and Luke visit Vancouver, they always ask to visit your classroom.
The first time all three NHL superstar hughes brothers were in your classroom it was fucking chaos throughout the entire school. You got yelled at by the principal, and they had to leave while the cops chased away reporters.
The four of you will never forget the dressing down you got in the principals office that day. It felt like you were a group of playground bullies getting scolded for pushing kids off the slide.
"This is getting brought up at ALL of our weddings." Jack grins as the boys hug you goodbye and head over to Quinn's place.
"Yeah, all three weddings," Luke says with a mischievous grin.
Both you and Quinn blush and choose to ignore Luke's statement.
Until he's winking at you over dramatically and making duck lips at you. The Quinn is dragging him towards the car by his ear and promising to pick you up when school is out.
The way luke can swing between awkward twenty-year old and Youngest child menace is so funny to you.
Now onto Ellen and Jim
They also absolutely love you.
They have loved you since you were freshly nineteen and offering up your apartment for Quinn, when all you knew about him was that he was an anxious teenager.
Jim gives the best advice. He's especially knowledgeable when it comes to kids, "its not very different than dealing with grown men who strap blades to their feet and call it a job." He says teasingly, while all his kids protest.
Ellen is the sweetest angel of a human you have ever met. She takes no nonsense from her kids, and always makes sure Quinn is good to you.
She has a knowing twinkle in her eye when she sees you and Quinn together and it makes your chest ache a little.
Her hugs are always long, and her words sweet, and she always reminds you that you have a family with the Hughes no matter what.

5 Mar '24 // Players react to Lindy's departure
"Obviously disappointing because, when the coach gets fired, it comes down to the players... Just shows we haven't done our job up to this point... When [Ruff] came in, I was just a young guy, you know? He just let me be myself and play my game, and develop at my own pace. And now I'm at where I'm at."

general thoughts about matt rempre
The refs unfairly penalize him for things that everyone else gets away with
His interviews make me question if my hearing is bad or if he just has a very strong Canadian accent that I didn’t realize before
He lowkey got a little chocked up when he mentioned his mom being there and it was extremely sweet
Honestly matt seems like a very sweet guy and I wish we could be friends
It’s kinda hot he likes to read at home and that he can play the guitar
Hot take I like the mullet
Mullet and mustache combo is hot
I will probably add more to this as I think

IDIOT, l. hughes
word count | 788 words
pairings | luke hughes x fem!best friend!reader, platonic!jack hughes x reader, mentions of unnamed ex boyfriend x reader
summary | in which luke’s best friend is left broken hearted and with a family dinner she has no date to, so he decides to step up and help.
warnings | not proofread. no use of “y/n”. reader was cheated on. lowercase intended. this is a work of fiction, i am by no means saying this is how they act in real life.
a/n | heres one of two of the valentines blurbs i'm gonna post today because i had a sudden urge of inspiration to write (but not for the fics i've already started lmao)
she stormed up the stairs of luke and jack’s apartment complex, tears of frustration welling in her eyes. she felt like an idiot, she should’ve known there was something off with him. that he was spending a little too much time with her. she knocked hurriedly on their door, waiting anxiously for them to answer. after what felt like a century, luke opened the door.
“hey–” he was cut off by her pushing through into the apartment, the tears already starting to fall. “what's wrong?”
“he fucking cheated! that asshole was fucking cheating on me and i didn’t even realize! i feel so fucking stupid.” she cried, wiping angrily at her tears. luke saw red, already grabbing for his keys. “don’t, luke, it isn't worth it. plus, i already broke his nose.” jack, who had paused his game to listen in, whistled.
“damn, girl. remind me not to get on your bad side.” jack commented, dropping the smile when luke glared at him. “sorry.”
“now, i have this stupid family dinner and my parents are expecting me to bring a date! how am i supposed to tell them he cheated on me and on fucking valentines day of all days?” she ranted, the tears still flowing.
“hey, it's all gonna be okay. you just need to breathe.” she took a seat at their island, messily wiping her tears. she took a couple of deep breathes, her anxiety still heightened.
“fuck, i really don’t wanna go tonight.” she groaned, accepting the tissue luke offered her. “and if i cancel, they're gonna ask a shit ton of questions and i can’t deal with that right now.”
“i could go with you.” luke spoke, causing both her and jack to whip their heads towards him. “what?”
“you would do that?” she question, her eyes brightening. “because you don’t have to! i can cancel.”
“no, i want to. i promise.” her face held a beaming smile as she threw her arms around him.
“thank you, lukey! okay, be ready by 7, i'll pick you up! and wear a suit ‘cause we’re going to mario’s.” she seemed genuinely happy as she ran out of the apartment.
“somebody’s in love!” jack sang, laughing when luke smacked his shoulder.
the car was silent, beside the radio that was playing. her fingers tapped against the steering wheel, avoiding looking to her best friend. “what did you tell your parents?” luke asked, looking to her.
“just that i was bringing a guy i wanted them to meet. i left it kind of vague.” luke nodded, looking back out the window. “thanks again, lu. i really appreciate it.”
“of course, anytime.” she smiled, the car falling quiet once more. “you know he’s idiot for cheating on you, right? i mean who would want to cheat on a girl like you.” her cheeks flushed red, a small smile etched on her face. he mumbled something she couldn’t quite pick up, her eyebrows furrowing.
“what was that, lu?”
“i wouldn’t do that.” she almost slammed on the brakes, stunned by his statement. she looked to him, his eyes already trained on her.
“what are you saying?” she asked, the car coming to a stop at a red light. luke rubbed his eyes, clearly nervous. “luke.” she continued to keep her eyes trained on the road, turning into the parking lot of the restaurant.
“look, you’re my best friend, and i know you are still upset. and i understand if you don’t feel the same. but i–” he stopped, breathing in slowly. “i think i’m in love with you. and seeing you upset over some idiot who can’t see that he just lost the best girl he could’ve ever had, pissed me off. and honestly, i’m glad, because you deserve better.” she felt her heart beating out of her chest, the feelings she had spent years pushing down now resurfacing.
“lu…”
“listen, i understand if you don’t feel the same but–” he was cut off when she placed her hand on his cheek, pulling him in for a kiss. it took a moment, but he slowly eased into it, his hand resting on her neck. “i take it, you feel the same?”
“you’re an idiot.” she giggled, placing a short, gentle kiss on his lips. “of course, i feel the same. but we take this slow, okay?”
“deal.” he leaned in to kiss her once more only to be stopped by her placing a finger on his lips.
“we’re gonna be late.” he pouted, earning a laughing, ‘ok, one more, and then we go in. no more, no less.” he pecked her lips before getting out and opening her door for her. “such the gentleman.”
“gotta make up for lost time.”

A Night to Remember
Trevor Zegras imagine :)
As always, slightly proofread, so read at your own risk. Not too many warnings….kissing and a few cuss words maybe? Let me know if you want a part 2 or au!!
Tumblr media
“I’m not going on a date with him,” Her arms crossed over her chest as she glared at her best friend in front of her.
“Hattie, please. He hasn’t shut up about you for like 3 years. Give him a chance,” Jack begged the girl.
Hatton and Jack had been best friends since diapers, practically inseparable, following the other wherever that may lead them. Platonic soulmates was the best way to describe the pair. When Trevor Zegras came into the picture, however, Hatton naturally developed feelings that were slightly jealous of his and Jack’s friendship. She learned to get over that feeling when she realized the boy wasn’t going anywhere. According to the boys they were the besties, but Hatton held up the fact that they were “the original besties plus Zegras.”
Trevor’s personality couldn’t be more different from Hatton’s. Where Trevor was outgoing, affable, and slightly obnoxious, Hatton was reserved, introverted, and didn’t go out of her way to make conversation with people she didn’t know well. She was the antithesis of everything that Trevor presented himself as. That didn’t stop the boy from being hopelessly in love with her for some time. Hatton couldn’t possibly keep count of the amount of times he had asked her on a date. The answer was always the same: absolutely not.
Jack was usually the buffer between the two, occasionally having to separate them from bickering like an old married couple.
“He’s annoying,” Hatton persisted, her stubbornness was impressive to the average person.
“Ok, I can’t argue with that, but he said please,” Jack pointed out, suggestively raising his eyebrows as he reasoned with his friend.
“I did say please,” Trevor’s voice called from the living room.
“See, he said please,” Jack couldn’t possibly finish this conversation without Hatton agreeing. He had about all he could take of being in the middle of the two.
Hatton groaned as she ran her fingers through her hair in annoyance. On one hand, she couldn’t give in after years of denying Trevor the chance to a date. She couldn’t possibly compromise her reputation of being hard-headed. On the other, however, she wondered if he would shut up about it if she just agreed to one simple date.
Jack could tell she was debating it internally, which was a win anyway. He had never gotten her to think this far ahead about it. He watched as Hatton began to chew the inside of her cheek, a habit she had when she was indecisive. Jack wore a smirk on his face as she slowly came around to the idea of a date.
“This is a one time thing, Hughes—you can wipe that smirk off your face right now. This means absolutely nothing except that I’m tired of him asking,” She set the record straight before anything else could be said.
Jack nodded his head feverishly as he squealed like a little girl. He ran from the kitchen and into the living room where Trevor was already on his feet doing a celebration dance. Hatton slowly removed herself from the stool at the bar and sluggishly walked to the boys.
“So I’m thinking tonight, I’ll pick you up at 8:00 and we can go get dinner at a surprise restaurant. After that we can go see the Barbie movie, and then after that we can go look at the stars,” Trevor rambled on as Hatton stood wide-eyed.
“Don’t look at me like that. I’ve had roughly 3 years to plan this so I don’t know why you act surprised that I have it planned out already,” Trevor was talking 90 miles per hour as he was collecting his keys, wallet, and phone off of the coffee table. He was dancing all the way to the door, but before he left he reminded Hatton of the time he would be picking her up.
“Oh! Dress kind of dressy. The restaurant is a little more on the formal side!” He called before he shut the door. Jack was snorting from laughing so hard. He truly wished he could be be a fly on the wall for their date tonight.
“I fucking hate you,” Hatton deadpanned glancing at the time and noticing she had about 3 hours to get ready.
“I love you too, Hattie!” He chuckled as he ruffled her hair.
“You should probably go get ready!” He called from the kitchen.
•••
Hatton took advantage of the time she had to take a full body shower. She immediately felt refreshed as she prepared to do her hair and makeup. She decided on a more natural makeup look as it was her signature style. She matched a black t-length satin dress that had a slit up to her mid-thigh to a pair of nude heels that tied around her ankle.
The time was currently 7:42, but the knock from the front door revealed that Trevor could actually show up on time. Her mother sounded surprised when she opened the door, discovering that it wasn’t Jack at the door.
“Well hey there, Trevor! I’ve got to admit, I was not expecting to see you here,” Hatton snorted sarcastically at the reaction. She made last minute touches on her makeup, spritzed on perfume, and grabbed her purse as she headed for the stairs.
Whatever conversation that was happening between her parents and Trevor ceased immediately, and she had to admit she felt like a Queen. Everybody’s eyes were on her and she was surprisingly loving it.
“I feel like your blue is going to be too much with my outfit,” Hatton pointed at his royal blue jacket and dress pants.
It took a few seconds for Trevor to process a coherent thought, but he finally was able to clear his throat a little and get it out, “Wow-ok, haha. Three years didn’t quite prepare me for this.”
He nervously wiped his hands on his pants as he began to help her out to his bronco. Hatton’s mom was trying to suppress her smile, knowing it would only upset her daughter, but when the two young adults were finally outside she looked at her husband.
Hatton’s dad couldn’t even pretend to be the tough guy if he wanted to. He had to give Trevor props for never giving up on his daughter. No matter how many times him and his wife had sat and listened to Hatton rant about the boy, her dad knew deep down that something would come of it one day. A boy isn’t just hung on a girl for that long for the joy of it.
Meanwhile outside, Hatton was trying to be her usual self around Trevor. She was trying to push his buttons, but Trevor wasn’t taking the bait. He opened the door for Hatton, ran around to his side of the vehicle and got situated in the driver’s seat, finally cranking the bronco. She started to make a snarky comment about his lack of socks with his dress shoes, but was immediately cut off.
“Hatton, you look fucking gorgeous. I’m not going to argue with you or aggravate you. I want this to be an actual date. Can we, I don’t know…maybe pretend like we just met and have a clean slate for the night?” Trevor suggested, stealing glances at her as he tried to focus straight ahead on the road.
Hatton was taken aback by this behavior from him. Had she ever seen him act like this? She racked her brain to recall a time, but couldn’t think of one. Playing with one of the rings that decorated her finger, she made eye contact with him and threw him a quick grin.
“Ok,” She managed to breathe out, a foreign feeling of flutters in her stomach made her heart speed up slightly.
The drive to the restaurant took about 30 minutes, but the two managed to make small talk. Nothing too serious, mostly things concerning Hatton’s college, a few mentions of the Hughes family, and if Trevor thought he would be back at Anaheim soon.
Trevor pulled up to the valet where the attendants opened Hatton’s door and stole the driver’s seat from him. As the pair were walking to the front door, Trevor grabbed Hatton’s hand, intertwining their fingers. This sudden action caught her off guard, so she pulled her hand back out of instinct.
Trevor gave her puppy dog eyes and Hatton succumbed to his wishes, slowly returning her hand to his. He gave her a reassuring squeeze as somebody began to open the door for them both.
The restaurant wasn’t busy, which Trevor was thankful for. He wanted something low key because he knew that’s what Hatton would want.
“Reservation for Zegras,” He smiled at the host as they welcomed them. They were taken to a quiet corner, only one other table around them was occupied. He pulled out Hatton’s chair for her. And they both began to look at the menu.
“You know I really wasn’t expecting this from you, Z,” Hatton glanced over her menu at the boy in front of her.
“You highly underestimate me, Hattie,” He grinned and flashed a wink at her, “This is barely the beginning of the date, too.” He reminded her.
The two ordered their their drinks and food and immersed themselves into a conversation.
“I know you mentioned college on the way here, but do you have any idea what you’ll be doing once you’re done? You’re in your senior year, right?” Trevor sipped his wine as he waited for Hatton’s response.
“Yeah, I am actually. I’m majoring in Architecture, so I’m planning on applying to some of the companies around here in Michigan. I don’t know, maybe I’ll make it out of here one day,” Hatton chuckled before sipping her wine.
“Have you thought about going somewhere outside of Michigan?” Trevor wasn’t about to ask her if she wanted to move to California with him, but there was a little voice in the back of his head that was hopeful she wanted to leave Michigan. What if things worked out between them? Would she want to travel the country with him? Who knows, but for now he just needed to take this one date at a time.
“I mean, yeah, I’ve thought about it. I wouldn’t have the slightest idea of where I wanted to go though. Probably where the most money is,” She trailed off.
“That’s understandable,” Trevor stated at their server rounded the corner with their food.
The two continued talking as they ate, slowly learning details that they didn’t know before. Trevor paid for the food and they were off to the movie theater.
Because it was later, there were maybe a handful of people in the theater. The two ordered a large popcorn for them to share, as well as two coke icees. Trevor tried to get Hatton to share that with him, but Hatton insisted that she didn’t drink after people.
They found their seats and situated themselves in a comfortable position. The commercials were still playing when Hatton watched Trevor throw popcorn in the air and catch it with his mouth.
“Trevor, you would choose the Barbie movie to watch,” She laughed when he missed a piece and it went down his shirt.
As he wiggled around trying to free the piece of popcorn, he looked at Hatton and shrugged his shoulders, “What can I say? I like to think of myself as a feminist.” He flashed a smile as he freed the popcorn.
Throughout the movie, Hatton noticed Trevor was getting closer and closer to her. It started with them both in their respective seats, not getting into each other’s space. About 20 minutes into the movie, Trevor rested his arm against hers on the arm rest. Halfway through the movie he placed his arm on the back of her seat, but didn’t touch her. It didn’t take long after that for him to pull the classic “yawn and stretch and put the arm around her” move.
Hatton tried very hard to pay attention to the movie, but every time she glanced at Trevor he was already looking at her. Every time she got caught looking they would both giggle like high school kids and turn back toward the screen. She didn’t know what possessed her to act like this, all she knew was that she was actually having fun with Trevor. Never in a million years did she ever think that would cross her mind as she spent time with him. It was refreshing.
The movie finished and the two loaded back up in Trevor’s SUV. “Now where exactly are we going to be looking at stars?” Hatton questioned.
“You’ll just have to see when we get there,” Trevor chuckled. The two were jamming out to early 2000s pop music when Trevor turned onto a dirt road that apparently was leading to nothing. He turned the radio down when they came to a clearing in the trees.
When Hatton finally looked out and saw how clear the sky was, she could barely peel her yes off of it long enough to get out.
Trevor grabbed some blankets from the backseat and took his shoes off. He climbed on the hood of the vehicle and onto the roof, setting up the blankets so they could lay there. Hatton studied him as he was doing so. She noticed that when he was focused he would stick his tongue out slightly. His hair was curlier toward the nape of his neck, and he hummed to himself quietly.
“All I ask is that you take your shoes off before climbing up here,” Trevor said as he patted the blanket beside him. Hatton did as he said and tried her best not to flash anything as she climbed up. She snuggled under the blanket and looked up at the stars.
The two sat in a comfortable silence for a while, every now and then pointing out specific constellations that that found. Trevor slowly laced his fingers together with Hatton, a smile decorated his face as Hattie didn’t object. He was tempted to pinch himself because he couldn’t believe this was real. The moment he had been dreaming of for at least a few years was happening, and there was absolutely nothing that he would change about it. The night was perfect. Hatton was perfect. Even if she was only doing this to shut Trevor up, he couldn’t help but think that something was going to happen because of it. He had a feeling that she had a lot more fun than she expected.
“Can I ask you why you’ve wanted me for so long?” Hattie’s voice was barely above a whisper.
Trevor thought about it for a few seconds, wanting his answer to be as accurate as possible, “In the beginning it was because I thought you were smoking hot. I mean we’ve known each other for what, 6 years? My 16 year old self thought you were the most beautiful creature I had ever seen,” He glanced over and saw that Hattie was crimson red. He took note of how adorable she looked.
“Thank you, I guess,” she laughed and looked back at him.
“After knowing you for a few years, I don’t know, it was just like I had to have you. We have very little in common, we handle situations different, but you’re loyal. Watching you be friends with Jack, and even if you don’t admit it, when we were becoming friends I just realized how deep and hard you love,” Trevor paused and realized he had been rubbing his thumb across her hand.
Hatton took this moment to speak up, “I do have to admit I’ve come out of my shell since knowing you. You don’t take no for an answer, obviously, so it was either I start getting out of my box and hang out with you, Jack, and the boys or watch you steal my friend. There was no chance in hell I was letting that happen though,” It was Trevor’s turn to laugh now.
“I was scared shitless the first time I talked to Jack about it. Honestly, I thought you like him for the longest. It wasn’t until you were giving him genuine advice about girls that I was sure there was nothing going on between the two of you,” Trevor admitted.
“Sometimes I think that we were lovers in a previous life. I believe we gave each other all of our love in that life, so now that we found each other again it’s time to give other people our love. It would have been selfish to have him for two lifetimes,” Hattie winked at Trevor.
“That’s a unique way to think about it, but I can’t say that I’m disappointed. I wouldn’t have had this chance if you both were selfish with your love,” Trevor used his fingers to quote the last part.
He was going to say something else when Hattie’s phone began to ping. He glanced at his watch and realized that it was almost one in the morning.
“Why the hell is Jack pinging my phone,” She groaned and opened her phone to her contacts. She tapped his name and began to FaceTime him.
“Hattie, why aren’t you home yet?” Jack question as soon as the call connected.
“Jack, are you at my house?” Hattie thought she recognized that background of the call.
“I am, say hi to dad,” he angled his phone to his left and showed her dad seated next to him on the couch.
“I can’t with you,” Hattie rubbed the bridge of her nose and sighed.
“Can I see my other best friend please?” Jack asked, referring to Trevor.
Hattie turned the camera to Trevor and Jack’s face immediately lit up, “Hey, bud. It’s nice to see you both have your clothes on,” Jack laughed, but was immediately met with a hard nudge from Hattie’s dad. “Not that there would be a reason for you to not have your clothes on of course,” Jack smiled at Hattie’s dad.
The three of them talked and laughed until Hattie’s parents made Jack go home so they could go to sleep. Jack hung up, leaving the two of them alone again.
“You know it’s 2:30 in the morning?” Trevor looked at the girl beside him. He watched her nod her head, silently letting each other know they didn’t want it to end.
They loaded everything back in the bronco, putting their shoes back on, and leaving the clearing. On the way home Trevor played laid back music. He attached his hand to hers once again and they rode back to Hattie’s house in a comfortable silence.
The drive seemed to go by too quickly, neither one wanting the night to be over, though Hattie might not admit to many people.
Trevor pulled into her driveway and got out to walk her to the door.
“Thank you for finally saying yes,” Trevor smiled at her as he rubbed the back of his neck.
“Well, you exceeded my expectations by a long shot,” Hattie was looking everywhere except at the boy in front of her. From all of her previous first dates, this is the time when she would be kissed. She didn’t know if Trevor got the memo though.
“Ok well, see you tomorrow at Jack’s?” Trevor felt the awkwardness in the air. He couldn’t decide whether he should kiss her right there or give her space. Would he be pushing his luck if he did it?
Hattie turned to the door, her hand landing on the handle, when Trevor tapped her on the shoulder.
She turned around, expecting him to want to say something else, but was met with his lips crashing onto hers. She was a little shocked as he didn’t act like he was going to kiss her at first. It took a few seconds, but she finally closed her eyes and kissed him back.
It was a kiss that needed to happen. All of the tension that had built up throughout the years was let loose and whatever wall that Hattie had kept up was absolutely destroyed. The Trevor that she was kissing right now did not feel like the same Trevor that had drove her absolutely insane since she met him.
Trevor pulled away first, slowly putting distance between them until he looked into her eyes, wanting to see if there was anything left unsaid. He gave her a kiss on the cheek and turned to leave.
As Hattie got ready for bed, she found herself reliving the whole night. She hadn’t had the much fun in a while. She needed that. Every thought that she had led back to the kiss, though. It was perfect. Absolutely perfect.
She took her makeup off, threw on a sweatshirt and some underwear, crawled into her bed and fell asleep with a smile on her face.
Trevor couldn’t stop his brain from thinking that night. No matter how many melatonin he took, how many sheep he counted, he just couldn’t shut his eyes. All he could think about was how soon he could take her out again.
***
I’m seriously thinking about doing an au out of this. But thank you for reading! If you have any suggestions on what to do next please tell me!

Little Lady Masterlist
Maggie's Trevor
age twenty
Tumblr media
"Hello? Is this the right Trevor? Maggie's Trevor?"
"Uh, yeah?" Is Trevor's unsure response, hearing the voice of a woman that is very much not his best friend.
"My names Emma, I'm a friend of Mags, we're nursing students together," The girl explains, "We're at this TKE party right now and she's drunk off her ass. I asked who I should call and she said you were the man," She continues to explain, the music loud in the background, making it hard for her to be heard. "So... can you come get her?"
Oh. This girl doesn't know he lives on the West Coast.
"Uh, I live in California actually," Trevor explains, uncomfortable in that fact that he can't get to Maggie.
"Oh shit, I knew her boyfriend lived far away, but I thought like, an hour," Is the girls response, flustering the boy on the other end.
"Oh, I'm not her boyfriend, we've just been friends for years," He corrects, knowing there's fresh color on his cheeks, even in the dark of his room.
"Ha, just friends my ass Trevor," Is the girl's bold response, Maggie's voice floating into the background. "You must not know how she talks about you," Emma continues.
"Oh?"
"Is that Trevy?!" Maggie can be heard screaming on the other side, drunker than he's ever heard her.
"Mags? Is that you sweetheart?" Trev asks, her giggling in response.
"Trevy, come give me a hug!"
"Mags I'm in Cali-"
"No no, come give me a hug, I miss you," The brunette mumbles, choking up.
Waving at Jamie across from him for his phone, Trevor types in Jack's number, letting it ring.
"I miss you too Mags, but you know I'm in Anaheim."
"Trev? What the hell man do you know what time it is over here?" Jack's exhausted voice grumbles through the phone that's up to his other ear.
Muting his own while Maggie is distracted, mumbling things to the friend who called, Trevor turns his attention to the other twin.
"Dude, Mags friend called me to pick her up and clearly I can't do that. You need to get your ass up and go pick up your sister."
You could hear Jack wake up just by the sound of his voice. "Do you know where she is?"
"Maggie, where are you again? Do you know the name of the bar?" Trevor switches over, Jamie trying not to laugh at the back and forth.
"TKE! My friend's brother is a brother!" She exclaims, Trevor relaying that info to her twin, said boy hanging up with a quick "I'm on my way" and leaving Trevor to distract Maggie.
"That sounds fun, how're you feeling?"
"Like I miss you," Is Mag's response once more, the alcohol taking away any filter the already openly flirtatious girl might have had. "You being in Anaheim sucks. You should move in with Jack and I."
"Baby, I play for the Anaheim Ducks, you know I can't do that from Jersey."
"Trev! We're 20 years old! How dare you settle down, and with someone other than me, no less," The girl nearly cries, leaving the loud environment she was once in in favor of quiet. "
"Maggie baby, what are you talking about? I live with Jamie?" It's moments like these he wishes they were dating, that he had gotten up the courage already to ask her out. Maybe this past summer at the lake house, maybe a few years ago when the boys gave him permission.
"Yeah, Jamie boy is taking my man!" She protests, the words echoing through the speaker function that Trevor had just activated, making the Canadian laugh.
"Your man?" Trev can't help but ask, a smirk on his face at the expression.
"You'd be my man if you'd ask me out already, I know you have my brother's permission," The girl admits, Trevor's face dropping at the admission.
"You- you what?"
"Oh! Trevor you won't believe it! Jacky is here! Jacky, say hi to Trev!" A near squeal unfurls, Jack's voice being the next thing a still confused Trevor hears.
"Z, hey, I'm going to get her home, she'll be feeling this tomorrow."
And at first he nods, realizing a moment later what he had done and responding, saying a quick goodbye just as Jack had done earlier.
When he looks up, Jamie is there, laptop turned in Trevor's direction and brows through the roof. "So, this is the first flight to Newark for tomorrow."
"What?"
"Dude," Jamie can't help the judgement in his voice. "Grow a pair and go get the girl."
