Ficlet request: Coldhands!!
Perhaps a holiday, if you want more direction. But any ficlet is good!
i'm so sorry i literally wrote this a month ago and simply forgot to post it! anyway this is like…holiday adjacent? mainly bc i think zhuzhi-lang's b-day should be a holiday. oh and this is canon to the rest of the series hehe <3
“My birthday?” Zhuzhi-lang glances up from Tianlang-jun’s latest attempt at storytelling—a poetic epic that mainly focuses on dual cultivation between those of the same sex—to give Wen Ning a curious look. “I don’t know when it is.”
“Oh…” Wen Ning’s expression doesn’t shift, hindered by the stiffness of his dead skin, but Zhuzhi-lang has gotten used to reading the slight changes. There’s an unmistakable tinge of dismay.
Wen Ning’s own birthday recently passed and even though he no longer ages physically, there were no small amount of well wishes sent his way. Zhuzhi-lang had spent quite a bit of time procuring a gift for him too. The fine set of deep black robes, embroidered with a delicate golden pattern along the edges, seem to have been received well. Wen Ning is currently worrying at the trailing sleeves of that very gift, after all.
“Is A-Ning asking because he wants to celebrate it?”
“Yes!” Wen Ning blurts. “But if you, well if you…” His hoarse voice trails off. “If you don’t remember when…”
“I remember,” Zhuzhi-lang lies. Warmth spreads throughout his chest. How pleasant it is, to have someone who cares enough to celebrate a day he doesn’t even recall.
What’s the harm in indulging such a person?
Wen Ning perks up. “You…you do?”
“Of course. It’s just been so long since I’ve celebrated that I momentarily forgot. Do forgive me.”
It isn’t difficult to come up with a date. His first thought is the day that Tianlang-jun gifted him a man’s form but, shamefully, he had been too preoccupied with his new body to take note of the date. But he remembers exactly when Tianlang-jun gave him a name.
Yes, that date should do nicely.
He tells Wen Ning.
“It’s soon,” Wen Ning says, surprised. His unblinking eyes are trained on a spot near Zhuzhi-lang’s shoulder as he processes the information.
Zhuzhi-lang quietly organizes the disordered pages splayed on the low table before him. It can take time for Wen Ning’s thoughts to escape through his mouth, and Zhuzhi-lang does not like to make him feel watched during such moments.
“You said,” Wen Ning begins slowly, “that it has been a while since the last time you celebrated your birthday?”
“Yes. Many years.”
“Do you not…enjoy it?”
Zhuzhi-lang tilts his head. “Maybe I don’t.” He reaches up to tug on Wen Ning’s sleeve, smiling when a cold hand catches his fingers before he can pull away. “Perhaps A-Ning will manage to change my mind.”

The Heartbreak and the Angst Pt 2
Wei Guang tries to remind Ningzhi of her promise, but she pushes it aside. She is not a female palace official nor a lady’s maid anymore. Heck, she’s not even free anymore. She’s tied to the emperor and it’s not right for her to discuss past loves and promises. She tries to place a boundary that had never been there before.
But then Wei Guang quickly jumps in...
The ultimate promise has just been made. He loves her so much that he is willing to throw away loyalty to king and country, a brand new job, and all the perks that would follow TO RUN AWAY WITH HER! Ningzhi is once again stunned, but regains control of her emotions. His continual love promises are dissolving her composure...
Ouch! They were a team once, tackling problems together like a power couple. Now it seems to him that she is abandoning him and their love. Wei Guang keeps trying to talk about them, but she keeps bringing the conversation back to the Princess Royal. He’s hurt and confused.
Again Ningzhi sets up a wall and creates space between them. But again Wei Guang hits the wall with a wrecking ball:
Now that is a vow straight from the heart. He has said he will leave the palace with her if given the opportunity and now he’s upping that promise with this vow: I’ll do anything to keep you by side. Her resolve is slipping even more. She’s got to get out there before she does anything she’ll regret.
Ningzhi turns to leave but Wei Guang has one last promise to make and that’s the one that broke her.
They both cry as she walks away.
I kept expecting her to turn around or him to grab her, but she makes to the door and out of the room. The heartbreak is real and the angst is impending.

I heard Xie Daoyun defended her uncle from Huan Wen with facts and logic. What exactly did Huan Wen call her uncle and what was her defense?
I think this probably refers to a story about Daoyun and Huan Xuan found in the in the commentary to SSXY 25.26, quoting from a text called Collection on Wives:
Huan Xuan once asked the wife of Wang Ningzhi: “Your uncle, the Grand Tutor, lived as a recluse in the Eastern Mountains for over twenty years, but later failed to fulfill his determination to remain there. What were his reasons?
Lady Xie answered, “My late uncle, the grand tutor, in his early conception of what is correct, took ‘uselessness’ for his cardinal principle, and considered public life versus retirement to be a contrast of inferior versus superior. It was not until his mature conception of what is correct that he considered them to be merely the difference between activity and quiescence.

Review Legend Of The Phoenix: Phim Cung Đấu Trung Quốc Gây Cấn
Legend of the Phoenix là một bộ phim cung đấu Trung Quốc kết thúc phát sóng vào ngày 2 tháng 7 và có phụ đề tiếng Anh trên Viki . Nó cũng có trên YouTube nhưng tôi chỉ thấy phụ đề tiếng Anh cho hai tập đầu tiên. Hãy cùng đọc review về bộ phim này.
Tôi bắt đầu xem bộ phim này vì tôi đã xem một số clip dễ thương về chuyện tình cảm của các nhân vật chính, nhưng phán quyết của tôi sau khi xem sáu tập là tôi sẽ bỏ nó . Trong sáu tập đầu tiên, các nhân vật chính đã chia sẻ một số cảnh tuyệt vời cùng nhau. Chương trình có nhịp độ tốt, chỉ là tôi cảm thấy mình không hiểu bất kỳ nhân vật nào ngoại trừ nữ chính, người mà tôi thấy là ngớ ngẩn và liều lĩnh một cách khó chịu.

The Heartbreak and the Angst Pt 1
Their first meeting AFTER he left for war and made a promise to marry her and AFTER the emperor made her his consort. The pain of the situation is too real. They both feel it.
He is so confused! They were both in LURV and they were making plans to run away together into sunset for their happily ever after. Now months later, she is no longer a heart-eyed girl, but a solemn royal consort. Where is his Ningzhi?
Oh man! I feel for Wei Guang because he just can’t understand how this happened even with all of his smarts. He honestly thinks the emperor forced her to become his consort because she wouldn’t gladly go into his arms when she was waiting for her lover to return home.
Wei Guang offers to help her if she’s in trouble, but she knows he won’t against the emperor. He’s loyal to the bone that one is. And he loves his country.
Ningzhi tries to set the conversation back to the reason she’s there: the troublesome Princess Royal who’s been hanging around Wei Guang.
Anyone else hear a tear in this guy’s heart? Cuz I did.
Wei Guang cuts in to remind Ningzhi of what she said...
Ningzhi is stunned that her own words would be thrown back at her. They had made promises watching the sunset before his departure. They had no idea of the conflicts they both would be a part of. It seemed so long ago.

[The six first years of the Yixi era. From JS010]
[Yixi 1, 15 February 405 – 4 February 406]
1st Year of Yixi [“Righteous Splendour”], Spring, 1st Month [15 February – 16 March], the Emperor was at Jiangling. The Grand Warden of Nanyang, Lu Zongzhi, rose with righteous troops, and assaulted and routed Xiangyang.
On jichou [21 February], Liu Yi stayed at Matou. Huan Zhen used the Emperor to garrison at Jiangjin.
On xinmao [23 February], Zongzhi routed Zhen's General Wen Kai at Zuoxi. He advanced to stay at Ji'nan, and was defeated by Zhen.
The General who Raises the Martial, Liu Daogui, struck Huan Qian, and ran him off. The Driving Carriage returned to propriety. The Emperor and the King of Langye favoured Daogui's ship.
On wuxu [2 March], a decree said:
We, though lacking in virtue, in early years succeeded to the vast thread. [We] were not able to mend gloriously far and near, and prevent and stop the faithless villain. The disobedient subject Huan Xuan exploited feuds and indulged in chaos. He then falsely deceived Heaven and Man, and usurped and occupied the furthest rank.
[We] relied on the General of the Headquarter Army, Yu, his loyalty and martial ability peerless beyond, his sincerity ahead exceeding all the old. Managing the plan and starting to act, the virtuous and worthy helped his covenant. They wiped off the tears and pledged [to?] the multitudes, righteous gentlemen feeling in their hearts.
For that reason white-edged halberds brandished as one. The huge sly [one] ran off and dispersed, three led stately and powerful, the greatly loathed one conferred his head. But the recalcitrant arouse, careless and heedless, and inherited the malfeasance in Jing and Ying. Fortunately, Heaven blessed the altars of soil and grain, the righteous banners began to triumph, the deceitful disciples dispersed in defeat, We gained to return to propriety. This then is [?] numinous of the ancestral temple, the achievements of diligent kings. Why are We, a single person, alone enjoying this blessing? Thinking to with the myriad millions to favour this beginning again [?].
Thus a great amnesty, change the inaugural, only those with Xuan and Zhen's grandfather and the same faction will not have the absolving regulation. Bestow on the hundred officials two levels of noble rank, on widowers, orphans, the solitary grain, five hu per person, and a great celebration for five days.
2nd Month, dingsi [31 March], the temporary government prepared the Driving Carriage's legal cart, and welcomed the Emperor in Jiangling.
The Grand Warden of Hongnong, Dai Ningzhi, the Master of Accounts who Establishes Power, Xu Huizi, and others planned rebellion, they were sentenced to execution.
The Army Advisor who Pacifies the West, Qiao Zong, murdered the General who Pacifies the West and Inspector of Yi province, Mao Qu, and used Shu to rebel.
3rd Month [15 April – 14 May], Huan Zhen assaulted Jiangling. The Inspector of Jing province, Sima Xiuzhi, fled to Xiangyang. The General who Establishes Power, Liu Huaisu, punished Zhen, and beheaded him.
The Emperor arrived from Jiangling.
On yiwei [28 April], the hundred officials went to the palace to request punishment. A decree said:
This is not a transgression of the various ministers. Thus return and lead the posts.
On wuxu [1 May], began a three day mourning for Exemplarious August Empress, presided at the Western Hall.
Liu Yu, He Wuji, and others inflexibly petitioned to yield their ranks. Did not permit it.
On gengzi [3 May], used the King of Langye, Dewen, as Great Marshal, the King of Wuling, Zun, as Grand Guardian, promoted the General of the Headquarter Army, Liu Yu, as Palace Attendant, General of Chariots and Cavalry, and Commander-in-Chief of All Army Affairs of Centre and Outside.
On jiachen [7 May], a decree said:
Recently, after the state's difficulties, people and things were exhausted and broken, ordinary worship and service were still not changed back to the old. How, by observing people's similar wounds, Yu and Tang admonitions for returning beyond [?]. Can tally measures, reduce and save.
Summer, 4th Month [15 May – 12 June], Liu Yu turned back to headquarter at Jingkou.
On wuchen [31 May], a farewell ceremony at the Eastern Hall.
5th Month, guiwei [15 June], banned tabby silk doors [?] and chaupar.
The General who Roam and Strikes, the King of Zhangwu, Xiu, [and] the Inspector of Yi province, Sima Guizhi, planned rebellion. Sentenced them to execution.
Huan Xuan's former generals Huan Liang, Fu Hong, and Diao Yu robbed Xiang province. The wardens and generals struck and ran them off.
Autumn, 8th Month, jiazi [24 September], enfeoffed the King of Linchuan's son Xiuzhi, as King of Kuaiji.
Winter, 11th Month [7 December – 5 January], Qifu Qiangui attacked Chouchi. The Duke of Chouchi, Yang Sheng, greatly routed him.
This Year, King Wuzhao of Liang, Xuansheng, dispatched envoys to offer and petition to declare allegiance.
[Yixi 2, 4 February 406 – 24 January 407]
2nd Year, Spring, 1st Month [4 February – 5 March], the Inspector of Yi province, Sima Rongqi, struck Qiao Zong's general Qiao Ziming at Baidi, and routed him.
Summer, 5th Month [2 June – 1 July], enfeoffed the King of Gaomi's son Falian as King of Gaomi.
Autumn, 7th Month [1 August – 29 August], the Inspector of Liang# province, Yang Zijing committed a crime, and was sentenced to execution.
Winter, 10th Month [28 October – 26 November], debated the achievements in the restoration. Enfeoffed the General of Chariots and Cavalry, Liu Yu, as Duke of Yuzhang commandery, the General who Consoles the Army, Liu Yi, as Duke of Nanping commandery, the General of the Right, He Wuji, Duke of Ancheng commandery, for the remainder rewarded each proportionally.
On jihai [29 November?], used the General of the Left, Kong Anguo, as Supervisor of the Left of the Masters of Writing.
12th Month [26 December – 24 January], robbers killed the Grand Warden of Lingling, Ruan Ye.
[Yixi 3, 25 January 407 – 12 February 408]
3rd Year, Spring, 2nd Month, jiyou [3 March], the General of Chariots and Cavalry, Liu Yu, came to court.
Executed the Grand Warden of Dongyang, Yin Zhongwen, the Colonel of the Southern Man, Yin Shuwen, the Grand Warden of Jinling, Yin Daoshu, and the Grand Warden of Yongjia, Luo Qiu.
On jichou [12 April], a great amnesty. Removed the ban on alcohol.
Summer, 5th Month [21 June – 20 July], great floods.
6th Month [21 July – 18 August], Yao Xing's general Helian Bobo, usurpingly declared [himself] Heavenly King in Shuofang, the state titled Xia.
Autumn, 7th Month, wuxu [19 August], New Moon, an eclipse of the sun [OK].
The King of Runan, Zunzhi, committed a crime, and was sentenced to execution.
8th Month [18 September – 17 October], dispatched the General of the Best of the Army, Liu Jingxuan, to Hold the Tally, and Oversee All Army Affairs of Conquering Shu.
Winter, 11th Month [16 December – 13 January], Helian Bobo greatly routed Tufa Rutan. Rutan ran to Nanshan.
This Year, Gao Yun and Feng Ba killed Murong Xi, Yun was usurpingly enthroned as Emperor.
[Yixi 4, 13 February 408 – 31 January 409]
4th Year, Spring, 1st Month, jiachen [21 February], used the King of Langye, Dewen, to act as Minister over the Masses, the General of Chariots and Cavalry, Liu Yu, as Inspector of Yang province, Recording the Affairs of the Masters of Writing.
On gengshen [8 March], the Palace Attendant and Grand Guardian, the King of Wuling, Zun, passed away.
Summer, 4th Month [11 May – 9 June], the Cavalier in Regular Attendance and Supervisor of the Left of the Masters of Writing, Kong Anguo, passed on.
On jiawu [10 June?], promoted the Master of Writing of the Personnel Section, Meng Chang, to be Supervisor of the Left of the Masters of Writing.
Winter, 11th Month, xinmao [4 December], thunder.
The Inspector of Liang# province, Yang Siping, committed a crime, and was thrown away in the market place.
On guichou [26 December], a great wind uprooted trees.
This Month [4 December – 1 January], Tufa Rutan usurped the throne as King of Liang.
12th Month [2 January – 31 January], the King of Chenliu, Cao Lingdan, passed away.

On gengxu [21 February], used the General who Consoles the Army, Liu Yi, Opening Office with the Same Ceremonies as the Three Ministers; promoted the General who Assists the State, He Wuji, to General who Garrisons the South.
On gengxu [21 February], in Xunyang the earth shook.
2nd Month [3 March – 31 March], Murong Chuo's general Murong Xingzong robbed Suyu. The Grand Warden of Yangping, Liu Qianzai, and the Grand Warden of Nanyang, Zhao Yuan were both captured by traitors.
3rd Month, jihai [11 April], great snow, covering the earth several chi thick.
The General of Chariots and Cavalry, Liu Yu, led the host to attack Murong Chao.
Summer, 6th Month, bingyin [7 July], shaking at the Great Temple.
Liu Yu greatly routed Murong Chao at Linqu.
Autumn, 7th Month [28 July – 26 August], Yao Xing's general Qifu Qiangui usurpingly declared [himself] King of Xiliang at Yuanchuan.
9th Month, wuchen [7 September?], Li Ban regicided Gao Yun. Yun's general Feng Ba attacked Ban, and killed him. Ba usurped the throne of King, still titled Yan.
Winter, 10th Month [25 October – 22 November], Wei's King of Qinghe, Shao, regicided his ruler Gui.
[Yixi 6, 20 February 410 – 8 February 411]
6th Year, Spring, 1st Month, dinghai [25 March], Liu Yu attacked Murong Chao, and vanquished him. The land of Qi was wholly pacified.
This Month [20 February – 20 March], the Inspector of Guang province, Lu Xun, rebelled, and robbed Jiang province.
3rd Month [20 April – 18 May], Tufa Rutan and Juqu Mengxun fought at Qiongquan. Rutan achieved defeat.
On renshen [9 May], the General who Garrisons the South and Inspector of Jinag province, He Wuji, and Xun fought in Yuzhang. The kingly host achieved defeat, He Wuji died there.
Summer, 4th Month [19 May – 17 June], the Inspector of Qing province, Zhuge Changmin, the Inspector of Yan province, Liu Fan, and the Inspector of Bing province, Liu Daolian, therefore entered to guard the Imperial City.
5th Month, bingzi [12 July], great wind, uprooting wood.
On wuzi [error for wuwu, 24 June?], the General of Guards, Liu Yi, and Lu Xun fought at Sangluo Island. The kingly host achieved defeat.
The Supervisor of the Left of the Masters of Writing, Meng Chang, was afraid, and killed himself.
On jiwei [25 June], a great amnesty.
On yichou [1 July], Xun arrived at Huaikou, inside and outside stern precautions.
