I hate the medical profession and medical professionals so much
God I hate them
The entire rotten industry from the lowest insurance clerk to the most accomplished physician, fuck all of them

Me: Would it be in character for the Stans to not go into deep discussion about what happened with Bill during the nine months at sea? I mean, Ford probably wants to leave it behind him but he'd probably carry a lot of guilt after him not letting people in about Bill (outside of Dipper) almost cost him his brother's life. And I'm sure Stan would want him to talk about it, now that he has a chance to do so and now that they're together.
Me: But on the other hand, these men are Pines and are so emotionally stunted as a result of everything about their upbringing, and they've been separated for the majority of forty years. I can also see them just...going on an adventure at sea and punching the nearest kraken they can find as a means of getting out any bad emotions without having to actually talk about them.

@izumikoushiroweek prompt: Assistant Tentomom
To quote this interview by Tri voice actors Mutsumi Tamura (Koushirou) and Takahiro Sakurai (Tentomon):
What was your impression of Tentomon in tri.?
Tamura: “My impression of Tentomon hasn’t particularly changed, but I felt like he was more of the ‘mama’ than ever (laughs). He was preparing food and snacks for everyone, and becoming the caretaker of the other Digimon...”
Sakurai: “Somehow he ended taking the role of the ‘mama’ (laughs). But I think that part about doting on everyone probably has to do with the fact he’s with Koushirou.”
While they outright state that Tentomon has to take on the role of a mother to take care of Koushirou (as well), I still believe that this is actually (also) a (subconscious) trait he shares with his human partner - to at least some degree. He definitely must have taken after the protective, organizing - and even scolding - attitude Koushirou has been taken on towards not only the 02 kids, but basically the entire network ever since he was 13 years old... Even if one might argue that Tentomon is quite literally mothering Digimon like Koromon/Agumon all the time, while Koushirou has to be looked after in terms of self care just as much.

FFXIV COMMUNITY WIDE FYI
-no one expects you to be perfect at rping a non-western character
-however, when rping a non-western character, you shouldn't be doing cursory research by itself
-it is not a high standard for people expect you to take ownership for writing racist tropes by accident. accept your mistakes and move on.
-it is not offensive if someone calls out an action as racist. that person respects you enough to tell you the truth. honor their respect.
-it is not ok to tell people not to feel offended by the mistakes you might make on this journey
-people will inevitably cringe when you get things wrong. it is a part of life. it happens when you learn languages not native to you.
-grow a thick skin. be humble when people offer their corrections.
-it's on you to learn how your character thinks and breathes through the lens of their culture, and how that cultural influence affects them as a person. take care not to literalize this, though.
-ffxiv does not present great examples of cultural knowledge. don't consider it gospel, but inspiration.
-read between the lines of cultural references in regions. be gentle with your assumptions. tread carefully on subjects you write.
-try to learn the irl history, what the irl people think of their own history, and how people talk about their own culture now. watch television, read books, look at philosophies in depth.
-i promise, the real world IS always relevant to the game world. you can't actually escape reality. sorry to be the one to tell you.
-if you don't know what a word means, try to find a different way to write about the thing. 100% of the time, you will find you have avoided doing The Racisms. speaking as an ex doer of The Racisms.
-don't be afraid to ask questions. you look dumber when you assume shit. you might look like a genius if you happen on the right questions.
-have pride in the fact that you are trying. every day, you're getting a little bit better. i'm proud of you for trying your best.
-if you aren't up for the challenge of straying from your comfort zone to learn new things, consider more familiar areas of interest.
-reblog to potentially save other fans of color from future discomfort

So it turns out that "it may be wise to [see a specialist/try a thing/whatever]" is actually Doctor Code for "I think that you should/recommend that you do [see a specialist/try a thing/whatever]"
Which is the most nonsensical allistic bs I've encountered in a while.
You'd think that when discussing something as important and high stakes as health, the experts would want to be as clear and direct as possible to avoid any misunderstandings
But it turns out that is not the case at all :(

pls just understand this: type one and type two diabetes are two entirely different illnesses (they are both called diabetes bc the disease was named before scientists fully understood the causes and illnesses properly). first, lumping them together under “diabetes” (as in the joke and also treating them like the same disease) can be very harmful! the confusion can result in misunderstandings at best (like my sister not being allowed to eat cookies at parties even tho. yes she can eat cookies.) and misdiagnoses at worst.
type 2 diabetes happens gradually and usually later in life, bc the insulin is overloaded into the bloodstream over time and the cells stop responding as much to it, which means the diabetic isnt getting energy despite eating it. it can be potentially reversible with great effort but it can still be dangerous. changing your diet and exercising more helps a lot but it can still be harmful especially early on before diagnosis.
VS type 1 diabetes is an auto-immune disease, usually diagnosed in childhood (hence why its sometimes referred to as “juvenile diabetes,” but bc it doesnt GO AWAY once ur an adult, that name is misleading), and it makes sufferers more susceptible to other illnesses. usually undiagnosed type 1 diabetics are severely underweight. basically your body is KILLING itself trying to destroy the insulin-producing beta cells bc it has been confused into considering them as enemies.
so associating sugar overload with diabetes is stupid bc 1. type 2 diabetes happens over a long period of time, not from one sundae or whatever! and can be actually a backhanded comment tbh and is used to shame ppl for eating sugary foods. and 2. u begin to have dangerous misconceptions about the diseases, particularly about type 1.
even doctors dont always understand the difference! my younger sister (dearest zoe), displayed all the obvious symptoms of type 1 and was severely underweight. my parents took her to the hospital and her pediatrician told my mom to try and fatten her up! my grandpa (a retired doctor from serbia) suspected that she could be diabetic and told my mom to get her tested and her pediatrician said theyd run the tests but that she probably wasnt diabetic (bc he was thinking of type TWO!!! TYPE TWO!!! shes so skinny how could she be diabetic??). my mom was literally making batches of fudge (!!!!!) to feed six-year old skinny zoe when she received the call that zoe probably had type 1 diabetes, with her pediatrician apologizing profusely.
we were lucky that our grandpa knew what type 1 was. other kids might not get a proper diagnosis bc for some reason not even doctors know all the info about these illnesses. (even tho theyre pretty common. ugh) zoe has had many issues with knowing more abt her illness than the doctors who are supposed to be treating her.
and in the us so many ppl die from diabetes (especially type 1) bc they RELY ON INSULIN TO LIVE (non-negotiable especially with type 1, even if you go on a “diet” so shut up about that) and when they run out because they cant afford it (even tho it is very cheap to produce and the inventor of synthetic insulin wanted it to be available to everyone) they fucking DIE, in their sleep or from ketoacidosis which is an incredibly painful condition.
so before you make a stupid fucking “DIABETES” joke try to consider all the people suffering from it and how often children are misdiagnosed. think about how my sister has literally every rando idiot telling HER how to manage HER disease when they dont know SHIT who make the same dumbass jokes you do. shut up with the diabetes jokes im gonna skin u
