I need more people to focus on Roxas and Sora still being able to dual weild. What does it mean. I was so excited when Roxas still had both oathkeeper and oblivion, and when it was announced that Sora could dual weild in Re:mind, but what does it mean. Sora's heart should be empty, they shouldn't be able to, so how.
Round 3, Match 3: Oathkeeper and Oblivion vs. Magolor's Ultra Sword
Oathkeeper and Oblivion
From: Kingdom Hearts
Wielder: Roxas
Roxas’ origin as Sora’s nobody allows him to uniquely dual-wield keyblades, whereas Sora could only wield one of these at a time. The teeth of Oathkeeper and Oblivion represent the kanji for “light” and “dark,” respectively. Oathkeeper represents Sora’s memories of Kairi, while Oblivion represents his memories of Riku.
Ultra Sword
From: Kirby’s Return to Dreamland Deluxe
Wielder: Magolor
The Ultra Sword is a gigantic sword fueled by dimensional magic. It can break the strongest shields in a few hits. It can be summoned at any time, and due to its large size it works effectively as both an area-of-effect attack and a finishing blow. It is not just a powerful weapon but also a symbolic memento for its wielder, Magolor.
The vast difference of how Sora gains Oathkeeper vs Oblivion is pretty telling of Riku's feelings towards Sora during KH1. The lucky charm given to Sora as a gift vs him finding Oblivion abandoned after Riku is lost to the darkness.
Nomura: Its (Oblivion's) development name was the "Riku Keyblade." In early stages we planned to have Riku give you a keychain, just like the lucky charm, which is why the keychain is a different colored version of Sora's necklace.
Last time I was in town, I saw someone wearing an outfit similar to this and immediately thought of Roxas. I don't remember much; just that their pants were chequered and their boots were similar and they had a black denim jacket.
When looking for references, I saw this jacket- with the belt and zippers and knew it was the one I needed to draw.
Thank you, Random Stranger who passed me in the Market, for inspiring me to draw a Roxas outfit redraw
Has anyone seen this image before? I've been trying to find the fucking source all day and no dice. It's either pinterest or those virus bomb websites.
Round 2, Match 5: Excalibur vs. Oathkeeper and Oblivion
Excalibur
From: Soul Eater
Wielder: No one, for long Excalibur is an 800+ year old sword and is the most powerful weapon in the world. He grants the wielder wings of light, the ability to teleport, and the ability to cut through anything. However, he also happens to have an extremely annoying personality, to the point that any potential wielder quickly discards him once their tolerance for him has inevitably run dry. Anyone who is able to utilize him long enough to accomplish something noteworthy is praised as a “hero” or “king” purely by virtue of being one of the few individuals with a will strong enough to withstand Excalibur’s insufferable personality.
I was choking in the crowd/ Building my rain up in the cloud
Falling like ashes to the ground/ Hoping my feelings, they would drown
But they never did, ever lived, ebbing and flowing/ Inhibited, limited
Till it broke open and rained down/ It rained down, like...
Pain! You made a, you made me a believer/ Believer…
(Believer, Imagine Dragons)
Boy, I made this piece incredibly complicated for myself with the perspective! But here’s my secret: REFERENCE. I took some screenshots from KH2 until I got the angle I wanted. From there, I used those screenshots to plot out my vanishing points. I also took some pictures of my Roxas action figure, Keyblade included, to get the angle on him that I wanted. While there was some light tracing involved, the purpose was to make sure I was getting the perspective right, never to just “copy” something. Plus, I had to work out lighting and color on my own for the most part; the KH2 colors are very saturated, and I wanted the colors in this piece to be more moody. So reference is important in order to lay the foundation of an illustration!
