It’s pretty funny how bad Tumblr is for marketing. Tumblr is pretty hostile towards faceless promotional accounts because you can’t just come here and talk from a position of authority. (And if those accounts try to police fan interactions... oh, boy. )

Fans should be allowed to do their own thing and indulge in their subculture without the creators or marketing team watching in. Tumblr is for the weird, for the horny and for the shitpost...y. Fans should be allowed to be fans even when the way they express their fandom doesn’t line up with corporate interest.

Fan culture should be unprofitable and even unpalatable to the outsiders looking in.

While Tumblr is not fan-owned or nonprofit, Tumblr culture is still closer to AO3 in that sense. Compare this to Twitter where it’s not unusual for the official creators check the hashtags of their show or interact with fans, sharing fan art etc. because that’s good free promotion. Nothing wrong with that in moderation but it’s good there are places that are fans-only.
