I saw someone on Twitter talk about how BOTW-verse Zelda wouldn't have kids, which would end the goddess bloodline and now it has me thinking like....did every Zelda...always end up having kids? For thousands of years? Was the bloodline continuous since Skyward Sword Zelda (which has to be like...hundreds of thousands of years AT LEAST at this point). It's interesting to think about in a scenario where a Zelda doesn't manage to have kids....how does the bloodline come back...

sometimes i worry about my internet footprint and the fact that it might stop me from getting a job in the future or something (i literally run a blog posting screenshots from fanfics i read) but then i think ‘well damn, if they can find all this information about me then i don’t deserve the job cause i know i wouldn’t put in that much effort to find information on someone’ and i feel better

Calcedott tunnel makes my brain hurt; a list
Guys I read 38 pages of Tyrants tomb and already have beef with the extra forest that’s in a gorge next to a lake next to Calcedott tunnel and the highway that it presents. I’ll be talking about that, just you wait.
Okay, sorry, on the note of reading Tyrants tomb I have to get this off my chest. Here is a map that shows where the Calcedott maintenance tunnels are
Tumblr media
(I found this map from Research gate; I’d link this but linking things on mobile Tumblr is really weird and difficult)
Lester says they turn onto highway 24. Except unless Lester has decided to not tell us they drove all the way through Berkeley/oakland as well. It’s such a weird way of getting them anywhere. Not to mention the fact that they land at Oakland airport; that should make it easier, right?
Tumblr media
There’s Oakland international Airport. If we consider the route I will now try to draw a map of how they got there theoretically,
Tumblr media
Okay, great, I over drew it a bit but you get the gist. Now, here’s the fun part. That Gorge that Lester swerves into, it’s not real. He’s not in the tunnels yet to reach the service tunnel for Calcedott (because the tunnels themselves are a roadway through a hill I believe) but that summons some major issues.
1) there is no place to put the gorge and lake that Lester and Meg fall into without bending Bay Area topography to our will
2) everything about Calcedott tunnel immediately makes no sense seeing as it’s a roadway that hundreds of people are driving through where there is no walk space for like Percy to be running and literally anything.
Maybe I’m simply just not understanding this, but when (from my knowledge) things like Camp Half-Blood can completely make geographical sense without moving anything geographically whatsoever. Then Camp Jupiter should make sense, and yet it doesn’t. I’m not talking about the valley itself because magic demigod magic can be protecting it. But stuff like the next to gorge with eucalyptus trees and the lake and the hidden tunnel.
I just- there is no point to this post except being confused over how this works. If anyone has any ideas feel free to provide those ideas, or if I’m just being a bit dumb then also please tell me. Tyrants tomb has made the Camp Jupiter Re-imagined map so much harder.
Anyway on that note I’m also going to be probably posting some concept drawings for the Magnus Institute building (and maybe it’s American sister institute-?) because the thing I want to know most as of being on Mag 33 is what the hiring process for the Magnus institute looks like, what are the roles in the institute? What job experience do they want someone to have, what’s the average job for people of the different like divisions look like- how do they advertise for new employees? The boring stuff :3

Movie ranting with Tomcat
One thing about me I LOVE Real Genius it’s a great movie and I recommend it!!
But If i had a nickel for any Real Genius actor being in the karate kid franchise i would have 2 nickels which isnt alot but its weird it happened twice.
Yuji Okumoto was one (Fenton being a background character in Real Genius, and later main anti hero of Karate Kid part 2 as Chozen)
BUT I JUST REALIZED THAT GABRIEL JARRET AKA MITCH TAYLOR WAS ALSO IN FHE KARATE KID FRANCHISE!! Very minor role but he was in Karate Kid part 3 as a dude named Rudy that Daniel punched while at a Club.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Absolutely wild right?? But oh wait there’s moreeee Michelle Meyrink aka Jordan in Real Genius, was casted in The Outsiders as Marcia (A Soc girl that went to the movies with Cherry)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And who else was The Outsiders?? None other than Ralph Macchio who is our main character Daniel Larusso in the Karte Kid franchise!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And even better, along with Ralph Macchio there was also another notable actor in The Outsiders, the one and only Tom Cruise (playing Steve) who goes on to Star with Val Kilmer our other main character in Real Genius in of the most iconic films of the 80s Top Gun.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What is this all mean??
Nothing. Absolutely nothing. Just that all of my favorite 80s films feature the same actors. I just thought it was neat!

just saw beelzebub’s helluva boss design and got reminded of the sheer rage I have for the wasted potential for the demon designs in that stupid show. as someone that likes demonology quite a bit I cant deal how everyone is an owl or a dog, like. Even if you wanted all the demons to be owls and dogs, sure fine, but why completely disregard EVERYTHING about the original lesser key demon depictions that make those specific demons so iconic in the first place. What happened to paimon’s androgyny and camel, beelzebub’s…everything. not everyone has to be another stolas. gah

this is going to be a long post and I'm not sure anyone who follows me really watches severance let alone is interested in the neuroscientific basis of the show, but having been doing research on memory for almost 3 years now, severance is both horrifying and interesting to me and I have to get this out.
one classification of memory is episodic and semantic memory. episodic memory is the memory we use to remember individual events tied to a time and place. in the brain, a structure called the hippocampus controls it. semantic memory on the other hand, is the memory we use to recall skills, facts and concepts and it's controlled by our neocortex (basically the cerebral cortex, the outer shell of our brains).
the way I understand it, severance seems to work by tying the formation of episodic memories to a certain place (this is also evident by the site of implantation of the chip which is deep within the brain, not on the surface where the cortex is. it's not clearly shown that they were implanting it inside the hippocampus or around it, but from the images they showed, I think that's where it is placed) and creating a barrier to accessing older episodic memories that were formed before the severance procedure.
now, historically in medicine, we have seen cases of patients where they had damage to their hippocampi, or had them removed during some procedure or other, and in the process lost their ability to form episodic memory all together. these patients can't form new memories and/or remember past memories, but their skills that they acquired or do acquire later are intact, and the facts they know about the world are still there also. they just can't form new long term memories.
now, we're still way far from understanding exactly how the hippocampus stores episodic memories (we have some sort of understanding but it's a little complicated and it's certainly not complete so I'm not mentioning it here), so, no severance as a medical procedure is still pure sci-fi, but the idea of it is fascinating to me.
In my research, I work on something called chemobrain, which is a term coined by cancer patients who have had chemo where they reported experiencing concentration and memory problems afterwards. for years it was assumed that chemobrain was just psychological phenomena, but recent research discovered otherwise. it is actually a very real damage to the brain caused by chemotherapy, or certain types of it to be more accurate. now we call it chemotherapy induced cognitive impairment. anyway, it turns out that those types of chemotherapy actually damage areas in the hippocampus (among others in the brain) and causes damage to episodic memory.
these chemotherapies kill nerve cells and literally target synapses in the hippocampus making the connections between cells weaker. they hypothetically do what the severance procedure does.
according to research, chemobrain can last from months to years, but in a lot of cases it gradually gets better. in my work we're trying to find medications that can reverse this damage in a shorter period of time. so who knows maybe I'll find a medication that will help helly, mark, dylan and irv as well
it's just fascinating to me how we might take this damage and turn it to a switch we can flip whenever someone gets a certain type of stimuli (like entering a new space). it's just ugh i wish the show expanded on the scientific aspects they used.

People who get up in arms when you point out that naan bread is redundant make me wonder why they're so insistent on calling it that despite never using the phrase "baguette bread." Almost like there is something different in the origins of those loan words. Maybe, just maybe, there is a reason why certain people feel the need to specify that certain words are "other" while they're more than comfortable including certain loan words to their language because they're just "normal" words. Right. Okay. Definitely nothing more. Totally.
