Plumber Badge Headcannons

I can't remember if I made a post on this or not but I REALLY love the idea that Plumber Badges/Uniform markers actually serving ass Identifiers for rank and divisions and stuff.

If you can't read my hand writing, some of the divisions would be Explorer, Ambassador/Mediator, Medic, Enforcer/Combat Specialist, Teacher/Reseachr, Technician/Technology Officer, Reconnaissance/Intelligence Officer, etc, with Rank being shown through the markings above the base rank.

I think it'd be cool if the markings could be layered to show if an officer is qualified for multiple divisions. I'd need to tweak the design so that they could "layer" better but that's future!Comet's problem

These could be shown on custom badges, but they would always be painted/engraved/embossed or whatever on the plumbers pauldrons

d-23 tetrax is cool even if he didnt speak much in the episode, honestly d-23 ben deserved to be smacked around a little (/J /J that kid is like 13 😭), the twist that they were actually the good guys this whole time was great, especially since sixsix was also working with azmuth, which was a nice perspective

i like to imagine that d-23 tetrax is actually a total sweetheart and didnt actually like fighting ben since ben is just a dumb kid who doesnt know any better (even if he is a stubborn brat)

im pretty certain that petropia in the reboot is perfectly fine because for a while Vilgax wasnt. Vilgax, so he couldn't have hired Tetrax to steal whatever that crystal was from petropia then destroy it, so reboot tetrax is just what happens as a result of Tetrax not facing the consequences of his actions so now he's a MEANIE!!! but the dad instinct is still there judging from the way he interacts with Ben in "Mutiny for the Bounty"

as much as i prefer classic tetrax i really like that they went with a completely different approach with reboot tetrax, and like it makes sense too considering theres no way petropia would be destroyed in the reboot as well if vilgax couldnt do it (if petropia were to also get destroyed in the reboot then that would be so funny cause that basically means the planet is fucked no matter what 💀💀), its really cool to see that this might be what tetrax was like before working for vilgax and makes me really think about how different each version of tetrax is, and only makes me even more depressed that we never got prime tetrax in Omniverse, especially since there could've been so many moments where tetrax could've showed up

classic tetrax obviously isnt as cruel and uncaring as we see in the reboot or as he said when he was telling ben about his backstory because if he really didn't care as much but was like "okay this is fucked up i need to get my act together" then he wouldn't have looked so distraught watching his planet fall

i refuse to acknowledge the change in reaction in uaf tho cause it fucking SUCKED they cant just turn him into this stoic fucking guy after he literally shows up and shakes ben like a rattle, that and also they obviously didnt gaf about his backstory cause in the og backstory you can tell petropia's destruction was YEARS, probably decades ago cause he had those back spikes and even a different outfit but in the uaf version its just the same exact model THEY DONT CARE ABOUT TETRAX LIKE I DO!!!!!!

uaf tetrax made me so sad because i was already insane about the idea of dadtrax because of Secret of the Omnitrix, but when tetrax first showed up in uaf he picked up ben and for some reason my first thought was "omg is he going in for a hug" only to have that ripped away from me when he just straight up starts shaking ben around like a ragdoll 😭like imagine you dont see a guy for like 6 years, last time you saw him he helped you save the world/galaxy, and the first thing he does is fucking shatter you for no reason (or at least appears to be no reason), and all you get from it is a "sorry but i had no time to explain", like thats crazy, the REAL tetrax would never harm ben that is his SON !!!!!!!! and then after the single episode we had of tetrax and even petropia we just. never see him or the planet ever again. like we could've had so much world building for petropia and they decided to just throw it out like it was nothing

tetrax is genuinely such a cool character and its horrible how underutilized he is in every show, like yeah he was in 2 (technically 3 counting the reboot) movies but that doesnt really make up for how little we really saw him, especially since like i mentioned earlier prime tetrax wasnt even in OV which is probably the biggest missed opportunity in history, and the strangest part about it is that we got plenty of episodes exploring different planets and even a whole other system (galactic monsters special) so it was literally the perfect opportunity to write an episode about petropia and how its holding up

My first thought when i saw this: TFP Ben 10

Given how this 👇 is Ben's canonical car:

You aren't too far off lmao (mostly on the colour at least).

You might not be particularly a fan of CNA from your sphere of headcanons, but considering that Ben can access another biomechanical species in the galvanic mechamorph, I'm sure there's enough of an Omnitrix work around to sample cybertronian data. Seeing as it's a Camaro you could probably have a TFP x Ben 10 crossover equivalent to TFA Waspinator maybe, a green Bumblebee (or a green hornet if you of/remember that) but it's Ben. Considering how the biomechanical Upgrade has a few biological translation issues to the point of not quite technically being a fully integrated transformation, maybe Ben would speak with his own voice like Upgrade does or maybe even through radio depending on how physically different cybertronians are to human anatomy.

I mean that specific line of thinking would only be possible if Ben snagged a sample of Bumblebee's CNA (or whatever you'd prefer) which could either be convoluted or unclimactic, though I guess if street racing in some part of the globe with a desert (aka somewhat nearby Bellwood which already exists cross universe between Ben 10 and Generator Rex) there could be some plot about his shenaniganery nearly running Team Ben off the road and messing with Kevin's own heavily modified yet fresh from 1979 Dodge Challenger to the irritation and anger of Kevin himself. Something something Bee got the attention of the wrong (mostly) humans(ish).

first you start with the classic series, then ben 10 alien force, then ben 10 ultimate alien. after that you watch ben 10 omniverse. these 4 series are from the main/prime timeline. there is also a reboot that i haven't seen personally but i might get into it later. this is like the best way to watch imo but if you wanna watch every single ben 10 media then here is a better list:

I saw ur source simplication thing and I like how you describe it. most of our system members sources are a bit more detailed. 2 sources is definitely not simple, but its only stuff shown that was recorded (analog horror) so obliviously a lot more went down besides that. (I also ironically feel a connection to ben 10 but its more from the Ben omniverse show)

okay ben 10 omniverse person again. after saying that I discovered I am Ben 10- and probably have been for awhile? (I am a system so I haven't fronted persay lol) but I also remembered smth that happened in source where I lost my powers to transform and I felt empty without it and I never realized how strong part of my identity it was that I wonder if I truly identified as human? sorry for such a long ramble I thought maybe I should share my experience lol

1) It seems like source simplification is the norm among fictionfolk. Nothing wrong with that, it's good to talk about normative experiences too. It's just something that's so intrinsic to my fictionkin experience, I needed language to talk about it, and if anyone else can use that language, win-win :)

Do you have any idea how long I've hoped I'd meet another Ben? I met a Gwen not too long ago and the talks we had about our canon divergences and aliens and friends and foes and so on were exhilarating.

I 100% relate to what you're saying. I've only had to remove the Omnitrix two or three times and it was awful, like someone was pulling out my insides. I'm not me without the watch. Idk how Ben Prime survived 4 years without it, I would've died.

I guess my fictotype isn't Ben Tennyson per se, it's more like the fusion of Ben and the Omnitrix. In some ways, Ben!I feel more like a cyborg than a human

YES i finally get to yell abt these two, its my fav ship in the series idk why people arent more into it. Fanart is supplied as usual and i have some evidence-ey screenshots under the cut, mostly bc i want to share them w SOMEONE other than my friend blue. Enjoy my ramblings

-kevin is dating both ben and gwen, gwen and his relationship being a lot more outward and public and ben a more private relationship, they only ever kiss or hold hands when its just the two of them or (rarely) when gwen is around, partially bc of bens fame and his own hangups about liking men and partially bc when they are romantic they r extremely vulnerable with each other and thats the sort of thing they wouldnt want anyone else to see.

-(quoting from a discord dm w my friend) ben and kevin violence is something that if u saw it in a painting or a movie it would be rly profound and aweinspiring. in real life its also the same, but it feels so much like intruding when ur actually watchingbc kevin and ben have all their emotions about each other in v short bursts, theyll bottle them up 4 an extended period of time and then have som e massive cataclysmic event when it bubbles to the surface. there r literally no continual emotional moments between them like kevin and gwen who have contunious small emotions abt each other, kevin and ben will hang out 4 months at a time and then one day just start hitting each other, which is in a way a part of the romance

-in omniverse theres a scene where its shown that 12 year old kevin is in possession of a photo of ben that is suspiciously well worn, it has rips and stains and has been crumpled up and refolded a couple times. I like to think he kept that photo, whether to use as a beacon of hate or chew on and cry who knows. 

-ben and kevin dont give a shit about what form the other takes, the only time ben has ever blushed about a guy is when mutant kevin grabbed him in the rooters arc and kevin is around alien versions of ben every day and doesnt bat an eye. This is why i think that once kevin and ben get together kevin makes a game about kissing all of his aliens (indiscriminatley. Even if they dont have mouths) he makes a scoring system and writes reviews on how good the experience was in glitter gel pen and makes a ranking list of his favorites. Stinkfly sweeps the vote, shocking everybody. Ben would rank kissing kevins mutations but only 2 out of 5 would even consider it before turning him into pink mist so he just sticks with what he knows.

- ben and kevin get married when theyre older and gwen stays in girlfriend status (mostly bc she knows that ben has a much shorter lifespan than her and kevin and she wants to give him the happiest time she can while hes still there) and they all live in a mansion the size of the white house. Kai comes by once a month to keep kenny happy (he still thinks shes his bio mom even after theyve told him multiple times she was just a donor. Gwen says he gets his delusions from ben). Ben and kevin like to sit on the 500 foot long porch and throw rocks at passerby and snuggle. Kevin is so happy he giggles mindlessly to himself in public, scaring strangers. He tries to get them to look at pictures of his family but this only further creeps them out.

-kevin finds the most random shit ben does extremely charming. hed look at him picking his boogers and eating them and he thinks in his head i need this guy so much. ben finishes a rubix cube not even very fast and kevins like wow. cool. do you like emos.ben is charmed by kevin in the same way. he sees kevin use the toilet brush to scratch an itch on his back and hes like fuck oh fuck oh fuck

i like to joke that the worst thing to happen in ov was some of the redesigns, but something i absolutely *hated* in ov was the finale where they met the contumelia, and the contumelia look like whatever the person viewing them loves most, so the person rook ended up seeing was his father, which makes sense, and this means we would've seen what ben loves most, and it could've been something sweet, like his mom or dad, grandpa max, maybe even one of his aliens like feedback since he had such a strong connection to feedback when he was younger, but NO. THEY FUCKING RUINED IT BY MAKING BEN SEE THE FUCKING MR SMOOTHY MASCOT, I WANTED TO FUCKING KILL MYSELF WATCHING THE FINALE CAUSE OF ALL THE THINGS BEN LOVES MOST IN THE WHOLE UNIVERSE WHAT THE HELL DO YOU MEAN ITS MR FUCKING SMOOTHY THAT HE LOVES MOST. Thinking aloud here but, originally in OS Ben 10 - thanks to the trio set up - there was already a present tri-colour theme of green (Ben, of course), blue (Gwen in both clothes and mana) and red (Grandpa Max, again with clothes but also to the plumber badge which appears as a red dot on a blue grey uniform). Over in UAF though, the red shifts to being a pink and instead of Kevin running along with the replacement colour, Gwen picks up pink and Kevin takes her blue. And over in OV, we no longer have a trio to make a tri-colour theme, and instead have green and blue for Ben and Rook.

Bringing this up, I want to kind of tie two ideas together, that being to keep Gwen blue and have Kevin be red, and for Omniverse to add on to the buddy cop duo with a red of their own, the ironically named Kai Green.

For a kids show - whether or not Ben 10 was revolutionary in doing this or was one of a few - having a female main character be coded as very specifically blue instead of pink, and not even contrasting with the main male character, was certainly very notable and actually pretty cool. UAF pivoting to return to the pink, even so much as turning Gwen’s style to be red in AF season 3 and the entirety of UA, essentially changed what she had been for 4 seasons of the original series. She didn’t even get pinned with the colour red, and while Ben kept up with the green - going... 10 fold if you ask me - Gwen got a new colour for this new trio.

Kevin, though lacking in clothing colour for quite a significant portion of his appearance pre-UAF, did very distinctly evoke the colour red thanks in due part to his amalgam Kevin 11 form. Even though a lot of his energy absorption powers were blue, more associated with electricity, the big red bruiser was very much the appearance of Kevin before UAF came around. Perhaps it would’ve been cool to have a carry over, a matter absorbing Kevin - just a tad afraid to fully commit to energy or DNA absorption especially - having the remaining heat and fire of a pyronite, coating himself in metals and rocks as if they were melting upon his form. Of course, Kevin 11 was more than just the hot red of Fourarms and Heatblast, but before blue jeans Kevin came along that was the colour I thought about.

Perhaps round 2 of an RGB trio may have interfered with the red of Albedo, but consider that maybe pink is not a colour entirely abandoned. The Highbreed have very many purple design elements, that in their technology and even in their facial appearance, framed by the white of their bodies and the yellow of the DNAliens. And what colour, might one say, is akin to purple but can also be the complimentary colour of a darker green?

Am I making Albedo pink? Well fricking sure I am. And, as an added bonus, it matches with the idea - more explored in Omniverse - of albinism, like white rabbits with the distinct pink eyes, even if humans (not that Albedo is a human) would have blue or hazel eyes. Pink also serves as a contrast to purple, a notable colour in defining evil in Ben 10, in such a way that it is not as intense a colour; it is a warm colour and it is a lighter colour, but the relationship that red and purple have with magenta can’t help make me connect pink with violet.

That way, the cast can keep up the RGB throughout UAF, and maybe leave room for orange and yellow villains or allies to sneak their way in. Captain Nemesis after all is very orange and, considering that Kevin is now red, the warm coloured connection and red-based association between these characters has a lot more relation to ‘not appearing as they seem’.

Moving over to Omniverse, a lot of arguments (that aren’t racist and sexist takes that cracker omnicron and her pathetic little meow meow spread like a cancer) about BenKai is mostly how forced and relatively out of the blue the relationship seems, and whether or not you’re a fan of it or not, the easiest solution to this is by continuing the trend of trios into OV. Kai Green, daughter of Wes Green, is another plumber’s grandchild like Ben himself. Since I haven’t seen Omniverse in a hot while, it seems that between her and her grandfather, Kai’s relationship to the plumbers appears to be related to the mystical investigation and safe keeping side of the plumbers, connected directly to what was mentioned in OS and in that one episode with the underground molerat cows.

Aside from generally having a connection and reason to be working alongside Ben, hero of the galaxy and grandson of the greatest plumber alive, and Rook, rookie hah i see what they did there plumber assigned to Ben Tennyson as a partner, Kai stands as the replacement of Gwen in knowledge of legends and artifacts more closely related to tall tales told to children to keep them from wandering the night alone. And the funniest thing about this, with the adjustment made from UAF, Kai get’s the red of Kevin while Rook gets the blue of Gwen.

And here’s a little connection I made while writing this, the colours reflect the meaning of both the classic trio and the teen trio. Rook reflects the blue of the original Gwen, a character that Ben absolutely could not get along with in the slightest until trials and tribulations told him otherwise. And now with Kai, her red reflects the blue of the teen Kevin, a character that Ben has history with that was less than pleasant, and tying it back to the original trio, has connections with Grandpa Max himself through not only herself but through Max’s old partner Wes Green, her very own grandpa.

So, with the existence of a trio (and preferably writers that don’t treat it’s characters like shit) Rook is not the only braincell of the Ben dynamic, and now if there’s going to be any form of relationship that is formed between Kai and Ben, this is the situation to do it in. That’s also a big if, but whatever...

This has been me with disconnected thoughts about the RGB tri-colour and um... I talked about this a lot longer than I thought that I would to be perfectly honest with you.

Actually you know ben and kevin duo has so much fans like there are so much videos about them in YouTube or insta or ..people love them so much and see them as best friends /brothers and even their friendship is the core of the show kinda.but some people don't like it when people ship them romantically or them being gay or whatever idk why they are so homophobic man

honestly i don't think there's enough fans of ben and kevin, especially people who ship them. they're usually sidelined for other characters, sadly. that said:

like, even in a non-romantic way, ben and kevin are literally the crux of the entire show. kevin in original series shook ben to his core, the fact that he couldn't just SAVE kevin, but he had to throw him into the null void as well? and the fact that this literally changes everything for BOTH of them going forward.

the fact that kevin's main motivation to escape the null void was just so he could get revenge on ben. the fact that, even though ben should have been more wary or even downright scared of kevin going forward when they met again in alien force, but instead immediately decided to trust him, despite the fact that the last time he saw kevin, kevin tried to kill him (the last few times he saw kevin, in fact). the fact that, after getting a hit in on ben after they met again, kevin and ben become friends almost immediately. the fact that in early alien force ben is constantly reaffirming his trust of kevin.

the fact that kevin goes to fight ragnorok and he wants to do it alone, but ben (and gwen) won't let him. the fact that, when kevin tricks them into the escape pod, he's talking to ben alone when he has to know that he (kevin) is very likely to die in the next few minutes and this is the last time he'll ever see him, and he's saving him/

the fact that kevin reabsorbs the omnitrix to stop aggregor and save the universe, despite the fact that he knows he's going to lose himself in it, despite the fact that it's a 1:1 repetition of the single most traumatic event he ever experienced. the fact that ben wants to kill kevin after he mutates again, an event which had to call back the incredible trauma that he also experienced after the first time he failed to save kevin and every time after that. the fact that, even though kevin wasn't in his right mind, he still knew that ben wanted to kill him. the fact that ben didn't even try to help him de-mutate. the fact that max approved of this. the fact that gwen alone was the driving force behind saving kevin. the fact that, after kevin de-mutated, he and ben walked off together without saying a word.

the fact that in omniverse, after everything they went through together, kevin leaves, but before he does, he goes in for a hug.

listen, i ship them hardcore. they're my biggest ship in ben 10, bigger than any other ship i've had for just about any other fandom i've ever been in, but even without romantic connotations, they've probably got the most fascinating and best relationship in the entire show. best written? hard to say, but it's definitely the most deep and developed.

i don't know why people don't ship them more. i don't know why they're relegated to the bottom of the pack. i don't know why ben and kevin are so forgotten about, or pushed to the side for ships that have less depth, less reason, and less moments. homophobia, sure, but even for people who aren't homophobic, i've seen them be overlooked for so much less.

i guess that's what i really think, though. people DO love them as brothers or friends, but they never get any focus or attention. they're always overlooked for rook, or gwen, or [insert character here], and that isn't a bad thing, their relationships with those characters are very important and cool, but none of them have the same weight as ben and kevin.
