((Haven't seen the latest episode of Fionna and Cake but the whole thing about "Winter King" is making me consider renaming Ice Princess (as well as her home world), I already had elements of this because I always considered her equivalent to the Candy Kingdom being Taffy Kingdom))

Expanding a thought from a conversation this morning:
In general, I think "Is X out-of-character?" is not a terribly useful question for a writer. It shuts down possibility, and interesting directions you could take a character.
A better question, I believe, is "What would it take for Character to do X?" What extremity would she find herself in, where X starts to look like a good idea? What loyalties or fears leave him with X as his only option? THAT'S where a potentially interesting story lies.
In practice, I find that you can often justify much more from a character than you initially dreamed you could: some of my best stories come from "What might drive Character to do [thing he would never do]?" As long as you make it clear to the reader what the hell pushed your character to this point, you've got the seed of a compelling story on your hands.

the question, you see, is not ‘is it too ooc for this character to cry’ but rather ‘what circumstances would push this character to cry’
this is the whump wisdom, go forth and make that character cry

((I uh. Didn’t expect the AT RP fandom to still be alive and kicking
That’s not an insult I’m genuinely impressed at how undying they can be.
Might dust this bad girl off if there’s still some activity and interest!))

this one's inspired by @cringefailvox's time has changed the metaphor!
It was such a good read and I couldn't stop thinking about these three ever since.

((So just as an aside I’d still like to touch up this blog and bring it back, but for now you can find me on my multimuse! Which I’ll post in a second.
Mathilde’s been updated in the time it’s been since I last updated it.
Mathilde and Scarlet have been the same person for a long time, the only degree of separation between them being a traumatic event and character development
But given help from my friends and suggestions, given how it simply makes a lot of sense, Mathilde has been updated to have a form of OSDD, Other Specified Dissociative Disorder, in that she has an alternate personality in the form of Scarlet (who is responsible and mature, able to handle stressful situations), while Mathilde is emotional and energetic, because it’s OSDD they don’t have complete amnesia but still do have trouble remembering things...
Tentatively I call them the Scarthilde system since it’s only the two.
It’s been a challenge writing them but I feel it fits and also allows me to learn more about this thing which gets overlooked and sensationalized a lot, and I’ll still be learning a lot as I write it with the updated characterization, but I hope you guys will like it either way ;v; ))
