In 1990-1991, the French army participated in the international coalition set up after the invasion of Kuwait by Iraq. Placed at the extremity of the Allied system, the 12,000 soldiers of Operation Daguet aimed to capture the communication node of As-Salam.

SEPECAT Jaguar A ‘A91 / YG’ by Alan Wilson Via Flickr: c/n A91 This Jaguar was hit by an Iraqi SA.7 missile during the initial French mission of the First Gulf War in January 1991. It landed safely but was technically written off. Returned to France, it is now preserved unrepaired as part of the CANOPEE museum (Conservatoire d'Aeronefs non Operationnels Preserves et Exposes) but seen stored dismantled. The museum is within an active base and prior arrangement is required to visit. Base aérienne 279, Châteaudun, Eure-et-Loir, France 10th June 2019 The following detail on the incident is from the aviation-safety.net website:- “As part of "Operation Daguet", the L'Armee De L'Air deployed 35 Jaguar A aircraft, mostly drawn from EC. 11, in support of Allied operations against the Iraqi occupation of Kuwait. The first French mission took place on 17th January 1991, when 12 aircraft launched for a daylight attack on the "Scud" missile facility at the Ahmed Al Jaber airbase in Kuwait. The Jaguars laid down a number of Belouga grenade canisters from a height of only 100ft, and also launched some AS.30L missiles. Four aircraft took AAA damage, including one (A91) that was hit by an SA.7 missile. The pilot managed to put it down at the US base at Jubail, with the rear of the aircraft badly damaged. The damaged Jaguar was later crated up and returned to France.”

MINISTRY FILE: 1179002 “DAGUET”
((excerpt is inspired by @a-bear-at-hogwarts ministry post))
Operation Daguet pertains to the study of an elusive yet dangerous creature once thought to be contained to the terrain of Denmark. Due to Great Britain's proximity to this country, vigilance is required. Information regarding the creature has been gathered by Rolf Kicavith. This conducted interview is to assess the possibility for further advancement and aid in resource provision. However, given certain questionable behavior, it is necessary to do a general overview.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wilhelm Your years within the field of magizoology have served you well, have they not? Efficient in the handling of magical creatures... the study of dangerous beings, it would appear that you were prepared. There are, however, apparent lapses in your judgment.
Rolf There are no lapses nor errors. You can see from my record that every mission was accomplished as assigned. I evaluate the threat based upon protocol you designed. Had I needed to execute critical judgment then yes, the plan was altered but only for our best interest. Wilhelm Speaking of interest, we are curious. When you said you had studied this creature, I did not expect these files to be so bare. They leave something to be desired. Rolf And here I thought you just wanted some attention… An exasperated sigh and a snicker are both audible for a moment before both men collect themselves. Wilhelm: Tell me of the mythical raven, as the Danes call it. What do you know? Rolf: Shifter. Seems to range between 5’7 or 5’9 in its true form. Vespertine, or at least it seems most active at night. Some of the rumors may have been far-fetched. All except for the shifting and uncanny intelligence... Wilhelm: What of its weaknesses? Threat level? Rolf: Given its elusive nature, it seems to share similarities to shifters and possibly the fae. Hearing and sense of smell are…...incredible. The data, however, is inconclusive, seems to favor minimal contact. What is odd is that the subject is male with an uncanny interest in huma-- Wilhelm: Are you saying there’s a possibility of cross-breeding? What a loathsome concept! Rolf: It isn’t unheard of, especially with the fae, and we have reason to suspect it has already occurred. This being by the name of Haedon- Wilhelm: Enough. Half-breeds or not, it remains a delicate matter. We reviewed your request to conceal the offspring and have elected to deny this motion.
Rolf: Wait, you can’t do that. Think of the risks! We don’t know the connections yet between the increased apathetic state of the villages and this ...this..thing. You’re going to put lives in danger!
Wilhelm: Silence, I have the necessary precautions established. The last thing we need is a creature like that scouring our country. It is contained in Denmark. Should it or any of its kind breach our borders, notify the nearest Sítheach for an extraction. As for you, gather all the information that you can but keep this to yourself. Any mention of this creature or its disgusting spawn and your head will roll.
Rolf:  Understood.

French ship deploys to Kuwait
KUWAIT CITY, March 29: The French military vessel - l'Aigle (The Eagle) - was deployed to the territorial waters of Kuwait this month, reports Al-Rai daily. This ship is a mine hunter that belongs to a French mine warfare group. It docks on the Arabian Gulf for several months every year to conduct relevant operations in coordination with the local naval forces. This year, l'Aigle traveled through minehunting sectors where it carried out marine surveys to gain more knowledge about the underwater environment and thus contribute to the safety of maritime traffic in Kuwaiti waters.
The French military vessel - l'Aigle (The Eagle) docks in Shuwaikh Port.
It also participated in a joint exercise with the Kuwaiti Naval Force to maintain the excellent level of cooperation between the two naval forces. This year the deployment is special as it coincided with the 30th anniversary of the liberation of Kuwait. L'Aigle was in Gulf waters from 1990 to 1991 as it took part in 'Operation Daguet' to liberate Kuwait. Commissioned shortly before 1987; it carried the most modern technologies for the detection, identifi- cation and neutralization of underwater mines. Today, these technologies are old but still effective and are complemented by human expertise. It can count on military personnel who are highly skilled in diving and mine clearance.
Commander Arnaud le Béguec welcomes Ambassador of France to Kuwait Anne-Claire Legendre on his vessel
Ambassador of France to Kuwait Anne- Claire Legendre visited l'Aigle when she toured Shuwaikh Port, during which she was warmly welcomed by Commander Arnaud le Béguec who introduced her to his crew and their missions. L'Aigle will definitely return to Kuwaiti waters in the coming years - before it retires after nearly 40 years of good service.
