So I heard someone argue that hinanami wasn’t romantic because nanami was an ai and hinata didn’t feel like he grived as hard as should it he loved her(oddly specific) and it wasn’t the most plot driving dynamic in the game what do you make of this

People can have romantic feelings towards someone without being in luuurve just yet. There's like, stages to these things.

People also grieve differently. Some people might emotionally shut down, others might cry and wail, others might get angry, of course many might do all the "five stages of grief" business. Furthermore — it IS noteworthy that Hajime grieves her harder and struggles more with her loss than any other "death" that occurs in the game.

How does whether their dynamic drives the plot forward THE MOST affect whether a relationship is romantic?? There are sure as hell tons of media where the love story is a side plot and not that important to the MAIN plot. I could list examples for friggin' days. And even in terms of Danganronpa specifically? The most plot-driving dynamic in V3 is "Kokichi/Everyone Else" because he acts increasingly antagonistic towards the rest of the group as the story progresses — not because everyone else is crushing on him. :P

Wait, hold up... Chiaki/Hajime isn't the most plot-driving dynamic in the game?? Because regardless of whether its plot importance matters when defining their relationship, I'd still argue that it's a VERY strong candidate for "most plot-driving dynamic." Their team-ups and shared trust during most of the investigations and ALL the trials has got to be at least 60% of the reason the trials reach successful conclusions — maybe higher.

....as you can see, I find this overheard-person's argument to contain many, many holes. :P

Still... regardless of whether I think this argument makes sense, if this person doesn't want to interpret Hinanami as romantic (or at least budding in that direction), that's their business and they're entitled to their perspective. Danganronpa has always portrayed the interpersonal relationships of its characters using broad enough strokes that there is room for antis to wiggle OUT of any strong ship hints, and there is simultaneously room for shippers to read shippiness INTO numerous vaguer interactions. Kodaka and co. almost never confirm any relationships in any primary canon; they seem to prefer leaving the fandom as much room as possible to play around.

Did you ever hear about that digital presentation/lecture one of the Red Hook fellas gave on how they put together the game visually and inspirationally? (Fun Fact: Jester turned out the way he did because Bourassa hates the DnD Bard stereotype, lol) I'm mentioning this in particular because he went over Leper as an example in terms of symbolism incorporated into his design

(which, side tangent to that: Leper's blocky and metallic aesthetic was inspired by Iron Man! the more you know, lol)

This was put out onto YouTube before Red Hook made it fully clear DD2 was gonna be a thing, which made it all the more notable when people later realized that one of the pictures used on that slide was of Leper's DD2 character design. So, everything he was talking about here was likely with Leper's canon DD2 backstory in mind. This is important because:

One of the points Bourassa mentioned was the fact that Leper has a "broken sword for a broken man".

That by itself is already brutally sad, but rest assured! It gets worse if you think about it long enough. After all, do you remember when that happened in his backstory? If not, lemme stop being coy for a moment to help you in drawing some conclusions:

The Leper's sword broke in killing off his advisors.

It wasn't the diagnosis that got to him. Neither was it leaving his kingdom behind. It was in breaking the oath he made to himself that he would protect everyone in his kingdom. Because, treacherous or not, his advisors were still part of his kingdom. It was only a small handful of people, sure. And yes, it's true that they couldn't be trusted to take actions in good faith once he was gone. And it likely was the right thing to do, at the end of the day.

But justifications don't erase the stark truth that he murdered his own subjects in cold blood.

And THAT shattered him (and his sword) more than a simple diagnosis or self-exile ever could.

Because, the thing is: someone can believe that their actions were objectively the best possible option and justifiable, while considering those same actions subjectively horrifying and unforgivable. After all, murder is still murder no matter the motivation, and some folks deeply take that to heart.

Of course, this is only true if I remembered that presentation correctly, as I haven't tried to look it up to verify it, lol. You got any thoughts on it, yourself? Assuming you hadn't already realized that on some level, of course - for all I know, you could have drawn this conclusion a long time ago and never brought it up because you thought it was obvious! xD

Or, on the other side of it, there's no reason you should feel the need to change how you characterize our fave Leper buddy, y'know? Though, imo, it's not particularly contradictory to how we normally characterize him. This is just another angle you could look at him from if you wanted to in your writing, shippy or otherwise!

(Though speaking of shipping: this creates another interesting level to think about Leper's dynamic with Jester, no?)

(Maybe Jester needs to get his king to forgive himself by comparing their past actions. If Baldwin finds nothing wrong with what Sarmenti did, which was spurred on by a much more selfish - if entirely sympathetic - motivation, why should Baldwin go about putting his own actions on a pedestal of guilt? Unless he's implying that he's supposed to be morally better than Jester, which I'm p sure both of them would hate to draw as a conclusion.)

(Or maybe Leper sees it as another way they can understand each other that others may not grasp. That while they may be stained by their past actions, it doesn't make the two of them inherently unlovable or deserving of suffering. It's a burden they can help each other bear due to their own personal experience with it.)

(Or maybe Jester is tired of all this masturbatory self-flagellating fuckery and would much rather he and Leper get down to something a bit more literal in its sexual nature. Wouldn't put it past the Silly fella)

i do very much agree that retaliating and killing his traitorous advisors was a huge turning point for Leper, and a source of at least some degree of internal conflict for him.

was it a moment of freedom and liberation, finally justified in doing something about those poison-tongued sycophants?

was it a moment of horror and regret, killing treasonous-but-still-subjects of his?

was it a moment of resignation and cold calculation, defending himself against attackers seeking to kill him?

was it a moment of inevitability and hollowness, knowing something of this magnitude was bound to happen after his diagnosis?

some bits of all four? fluctuating day-by-day, nightmare-by-nightmare?

as Bourassa said, a broken sword for a broken man. no matter the literal golden facade he puts up, Leper is still a broken man looking for something as he battles the horrors of the Hamlet/the world. at least this is an unexpected connection he shares with Jester, right?

i will admit it's not something i've commented much on in my fics, as Jester's trauma is just so much more, but i certainly have thoughts!

way back in my first DD fic, Dreams, Jester notes that royal blood on their hands is something they share, and Leper smiles as he says “Hence the beauty I see in your bloody finale. Such cruelty and abuse should be responded to in kind."

in Bow, something about the assassination attempt seems to have severely fucked up the Veiled Emperor's sense of trust.

soulmate au was requested by the poll! ironically I don’t have any specific Icemav bits to share yet because the first draft was word vomit during nano and I’m slowly working my way back through and reworking a lot of stuff. haven’t gotten to the shippy part of things yet, but here’s a bit of the first chapter!

the soulmate connection in this fic is through letters folded as paper airplanes. I won’t go into too much detail, but this first letter from Mav is right after they find out Duke isn’t coming home, so he’s only 7 years old, which puts Ice at 9. this will be formatted as a 3+1; 3 times Ice couldn’t comfort his soulmate in person and 1 time he could :’)

so! without further ado:

It’s rare to receive a soulmate letter before the age of fifteen.

Tom’s seen it in every piece of media he’s been able to get his hands on. He’s seen the love stories in his mom’s soap operas and in the romance novels his big sister pretends to hate. He’s seen the friendships in the war documentaries his dad likes to watch, how soldiers’ bonds with their soulmates helped them keep their heads. He’s seen the friendship bonds too in the letters his cousin Oskar shares from time to time. He’s seen every conceivable folded paper plane his little nine-year-old brain can imagine flitting through the skies when his mom takes him to the park or the pool or even on the way to school. He knows everyone has a person that’s all theirs in whatever way that they need. He knows those bonds are for life.

But it's incredibly rare to receive one this early.

“Aren’t you lucky,” his sister says after a dinner in November, spinning round and around in his desk chair while he leans back against his pillows. He reads over the letter again, the words scrawled across the page in red crayon.

“At least you don’t have a baby for a soulmate,” he grumbles half heartedly. There’s still a warmth in his chest, a comfort in knowing he has someone out there, some part of him whispering mineminemine and he can’t bear to put the letter down.

“At least you have one,” she snipes back. It’s past her due, he knows; she’ll be sixteen at the beginning of January. For as rare as it is for a letter to arrive before fifteen, it’s not unusual for someone not to receive a letter until years past the fifteen year mark.

Only a rare few don’t receive a letter at all.

so many new follows! thanks everyone, glad you enjoyed my silly doodle! I can’t guarantee what else I’ll be drawing, generally it’s been a lot of OC stuff and randomness, because I’ve been so busy with work, comics and commissions I don’t have a ton of time for fun arts. But we’ll see~

What do I think about some LoT ships and Karllik?

Honestly I don’t really have an opinion!!! I love me an m/m ship, but it’s different for me having known U-P and all the people in LoT personally (many in-person too!) that it’s a much different thing vs interacting with a piece of media that you’re a fan of.

I’m totally fine with people shipping Rellik with whoever, he was an RP character of mine forever, and he’s been in ships with friends’ OCs time to time. I’ve even had people ship him with their OCs. (I recall someone on dA I particularly loved the beautiful art of him and her OC) And honestly it’s just been lovely seeing everyone enjoy the LoT characters again and breathe new life and ideas into whatever sparks their fancy.

I don’t have a LoT OTP! I drew a handful of art of Rellik with thecrowchan’s Crowley (which you can still see on this tumblr), but honestly, he’s always been a character who is interesting to see how he gets along with people. That’s why my round-3 extras has some Karl shippy-type stuff in it too, I knew people were interested and those two being semi-villains had a different energy between them than other characters which was so fun to write.

That’s about all I’m going to say about it all! Everything else is up for you all to be creative with however you see fit. If I open requests (I do meme art requests time to time) feel free to send me any of chars you’d like to see, otherwise it’s not really my place to make more content for this fandom. It belongs to you all now!!!! ♥ Though I’m sure I’ll draw my boy Rel from time to time just cuz I still love him :)

I was preparing an art with a silver trio - Sebastian, Ominis and MC, and one thought haunted me. As crazy as I am in love with Ominis, I don't see him around my girl. I think their relationship would be like a rocking boat. It is very important for Ominis that his lover shares his opinion, especially about the Dark Arts. But unlike Gaunt, MC has more responsibility for the people around her, and often this involves the use of darker types of magic. What are we talking about if we literally kill goblins, poachers and other wizards?! Sometimes the situation reaches a dead end and all that remains to be done is to cast Imperio / Crucio / Avada Kedavra. Unfortunately, Ominis is very categorical and this will become their main conflict. I feel that this will separate them on different sides, and if Ominis finds the strength to forgive Sebatyan, because they were friends for many years, then the MC will be ignored for the rest of his life. For the ever-right Ominis, the ends don't justify the means, and my MC knows that the world outside is not the most welcoming world and many people need help, which does not always involve the use of safe spells.

By and large, for any MC, unforgivable spells are something else. The ancient magic that we use also takes lives, but is not regulated by anyone. For a person who has just entered the path of magic, these matters are closer to each other than for such as Ominis who breaks these types of magic and refuses them completely. I'm not sure if I'm explaining correctly, but I hope you understand me…

p\s\ that's probably why I'm ready to draw shippies with both Ominis and Sebastian… Although in fact I don't see her with either one or the other in the long run, as if it's a school crush that does not work in the reality that MC belongs to . Although we must agree that Sebastian is very suitable for this.

well good morning-night yourself!!! ;P i'm all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed today, whatever the time may be, and getting to chat about the hacketts only makes it that much better!!! hehehe

16. What was the easiest scene to write?

hands down, the easiest time i've had getting a scene down is...something i haven't posted yet, ALAS! i'm so excited to finally get there, but...i've referenced it before, and i'll reference it again by simply saying it involves OLD! MEN! FIGHTINGGGGGGGG!!!!! 🥳

when i first started writing all in the family, the oneshot-turned-whole-fic precursor to like wringing blood, this scene came to me so...fully. and vibrantly. and intensely. that i decided i had to write like wringing blood, if only for this one scene to live. it wouldn't do as a oneshot, not in my mind, and it needed context so that it could (eventually) have catharsis, and just...i'm very, very excited to get to the old men fighting. and i hope, of course, that all y'all out there will enjoy the old men fighting, and i hope it'll show, how the fic as a whole kind of grew from that one angry, angry seed.

17. What was the hardest scene to write?

so my cop-out answer for this one is this: literally any scene that involves travis and constance interacting. lmao. i've for sure commented on that before, but man. it's just. a lot. having the two of them in a scene together. any time i'm working on something that features both of them heavily, the vibes are just...rancid, and i always end up having to get up and walk off some of the grimacing. it's not just a "shitty parent interacting with their kid" thing either, believe me, because i do not have the same issue with say, jed and chris. this is a constance-and-travis-specific issue and BOY. it makes getting through certain chapters...ROUGH!!!

a less generalized answer, though, is that there is another scene i haven't gotten to yet involving chris experiencing some...l...light haunting, let's say. that's non-spoilery enough, i think. chris experiences some light haunting during the course of camp, and i am having a hell of a time getting that scene down because it's also very alive and very big and very bright in my mind, but conveying it all in words has been a challenge. i keep rewriting it, keep adding things and taking them out, and short of making that particular chapter fuckin 75k words on its own, i think i'm going to continue to struggle with it for a minute, ha!!!

20. What is something you wish more people noticed about this fic?

i just want people to acknowledge that the fiddlers and hacketts being related doesn't only make sense, it exPLAINS SO MANY OF THE PLOT HOLES IN TQ AND

i would love for anyone to notice that the first letter of every chapter spells out rick astley's never gonna give you up

hehehe okay, for real though, i'm genuinely so flattered and even touched that people have been reading and enjoying this fic at all, given it's (1) not shippy, (2) centered on a really difficult/uncomfortable family dynamic, (3) focusing on characters who are morally grey at best, (4) deeply, deeply ugly at times. that in and of itself is all that i could ask for, truly, because this is such a personal project and so much of my own stuff is sort of being worked through within it, so anytime anyone says anything about it, my heart grows three sizes <3

the only itty bitty thing i'll say, though, and it's not really me hoping people notice so much as i hope they'll realize as time goes on, is that...nothing in this fic is there accidentally. this is not a fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants story, everything in like wringing blood has been planned out and put where it is for a very, very specific reason. if those reasons aren't apparent yet, it just means we haven't gotten there ;) so if there are details that have stuck out, if there are pieces-parts that feel...conspicuous, that's all by design. i have so many planning docs for this fuckin fic, i have been sowing so many seeds. can't wait until it's time to reap them :)
