What would they do to celebrate their one year anniversary? I feel like they’d be pretty lowkey about it,Tien might hand pick Yamcha some flowers from the mountain side, Yamcha would make Tien’s favourite meal, just a quiet dinner at the farm on their own and an early night.
When did they know that loved each other, and when did they first tell each other that they loved one another? I’m very partial to the idea that Tien realized he had feelings for Yamcha sometime when they were training together for the 23rd Budokai and that after the 23rd he realized the feelings weren’t going away, so he did the only thing he knew how and retreated to train with Chiaotzu.
Yamcha on the other hand had feelings but didn’t necessarily realize they were romantic for a while, he sorta repressed the idea because he was still on and off with Bulma and didn’t really know how to deal with it. I think Yamcha realized for sure he was feeling something stronger on King Kai’s planet, especially after he offered to stay dead with Tien and Chiaotzu. Telling a dude you’d give up a second chance of life to stay with him and his baby brother is kinda a super romantic proclamation.
Neither of them admit they love each other outright until many years later when they’ve both sorted their feelings out and realize the other feels the same way too.
11. What "don't ever do this" writing rule are you guilty of constantly breaking?
I don’t know if I am, really. I mean, there’s the bit about adverbs, and always/never using “said”, and I probably use passive voice from time to time, but I have so little respect for those “rules” that I don’t even feel like they count.
I guess “Revise, revise, revise” is one I break all the time. Everyone seems to act like you can’t possibly get anything right on the first try. You gotta go over it again and again and again and again to polish it. That’s just not my style. I take a little extra time on the first draft, and then I’ll go over it one more time to check for typos, format the italics, and I might add or reword something if I feel like it, but that’s usually about it. Today, I went through that process twice, but only because I messed up and lost what I had pasted into AO3′s form. The second time really didn’t help anything.
So maybe I’m following the rule in my own way, but I think “check for spelling, and maybe you used the same word too many times in one sentence.” is a long way off from “Consider your fifth draft most carefully!” I just don’t do that. Call it talent or overconfidence or whatever.
Would happen to know of a horse movie besides Black Beauty told from the horse’s perspective, where the horse meets a little boy, and it starts in a desert (but my friend swears is not a part of the Black Stallion franchise)? I’m having a horse movie marathon in a few weeks and that’s what she described. Total shot in the dark, haha.
Sounds like Running Free to me - narrated by the horse, set in Namibia (meets the desert requirements), and horse forms a bond with a boy. Here’s the trailer:
*whispers* “my mom knitted you a jumper” with the Super Nerd Patrol
follow up / clarification - obvi fluffy platonic cute like Mrs Weasley and Ron for Harry style
It was a little too big. The sleeves dangled a full inch past the tips of Dende’s fingers with his arms at his sides, and the bottom of it hung well past his hips. Gohan was apologising profusely for the sizing mixup, saying his mother didn’t know Dende’s measurements and had to guess and maybe Dende would grow into it later, but Dende just smiled at him. “It’s fine,” he said, rolling up the sleeves to a reasonable length. “It’s better to have it too large than too small, right?”
Gohan seemed to relax at that, smiling nervously at Dende. “So...do you like it?”
Dende looked down at his new sweater. Hand-knit by Chi-Chi, it was dark blue with all seven Dragon Balls in a circle on the front. Yes, it was a little too big, and somewhat cheesy. But it was nice and warm, and it had been made with love. Dende could tell just from the nervous way Gohan had handed it to him that it was Chi-Chi’s way of telling him he was family now, that he was welcome even though he was new to the planet.
He beamed at Gohan. “I love it.”
Videl smoothed her hand over the sleeve of her new sweater. “It’s so soft,” she marveled. She looked up at Gohan, eyes bright. “I love it.”
“Really?” Some of the anxiety dissipated from Gohan’s shoulders, and he stood a little straighter. “I mean, thank you. Mom worked really hard on it.”
“I can tell.” Videl looked down at it. The sweater was hand-knit, emerald green with the words “FIGHT ME” in big white letters on the chest. It was a little baggy, but that just meant she could fit more clothes underneath to keep warm. But more than that, it felt like a sign--a sign that Chi-Chi had finally accepted her as an important part of her older son’s life. She hugged Gohan around the middle, stifling a laugh as he flinched in surprise. “Tell her I love it.”
His mother flung the door open almost as soon as Gohan put his hand up to knock. “There you are!” she cried, launching herself at him for a hug. “Oh, sweetheart, come inside!” She moved out of the way for Gohan, Videl, and Dende to come into the house, quickly relieving Videl of baby Pan. “Was it a long flight?”
“Only as long as usual,” Dende said politely, removing his cloak and hanging it on the hat rack. “It’s a little more difficult flying with a baby.”
“I carried her most of the way, though,” Videl said proudly. Gohan grinned and kissed her cheek. After so many years of ki practise, she was finally strong enough to shield both herself and Pan from the effects of high-speed flying.
“Poor things, you must be freezing,” his mother cooed. “Wait here; I have something for you.” She handed Pan back to Gohan and hurried off up the stairs. Gohan set Pan down to take off his boots.
It hadn’t really been that long since he’d seen his family, but it was always nice to be able to spend the holidays with them. Piccolo had been invited too, but he’d wanted to get some extra training in and would be arriving late. They all knew it was just because he wanted to avoid a social gathering for as long as possible, but the fact that he was planning on showing up at all was progress.
His mom came back in, arms full of clothes. “Here you go!” she said, handing a sweater to each of them and helping Pan put hers on. “I was going to wait until later to give you these, but I thought you might like them now while you’re trying to warm up.”
Laughing, Gohan tugged his sweater over his head and then gave her a hug. “Thanks, Mom.”
