One thing that sticks out for me about Salome (1969) is that it effectively changes the focus to Herod. It’s much more of a political drama than the original play, yet it doesn’t change a word of the dialogue. Instead it frames Herod as the main character, focusing on his concerns and mental disintegration.

I’m not complaining (even if this is supposed to be Salome’s story...) The focus works for what they were trying to do. They wanted to pare down the story into the political drama elements, which is a fair choice. I just wish it didn’t have to happen at Salome and Herodias’s expense.

CANNABIS (1970) - JANE BIRKIN: A VISUAL HOMMAGE (Part 2/10)

Known as French Intrigue in the US and the UK, this Thriller is the most ambitious movie JANE BIRKIN and Serge Gainsbourg filmed together but despite visual brilliance, great sex scenes and chemistry between the two and supporting cast, it failed at the Box Office. Still a must see for Birkin-Gainsbourg lovers.
