Jonah Magnus has fear of commitment let me explain:

- harem of 1800s lovers

- has ones bones in his office (Bennett), worked with another on a long architectural project that required him to actually change the plans so likely needed to be close to Smirke

- still ended up killing off at least two of them whether directly or indirectly

Therefore Jonah Magnus actually had a lot of chances to find love within his circle of friends who I firmly believe were enchanted with him — and yet when one got too close (both Smirke and Bennett) they came to an untimely demise.

Were some of these deaths out of curiousity about the powers and his own desire for power?

Definitely.

But he also does care about them.

It’s part of why the Plukas fanon works so well: Peter Lukas specifically preys on the recently divorced because they’re lonely, and who else would be lonely besides a man who’s been too afraid of commitment for a proper relationship for centuries? You know who can prey on that fear? Peter Lukas.
