What do I mean when I say I am a summon? What kind of feelings and experiences are behind that? Here's some rambly thoughts of mine on the subject.

Very simply put, a summon is a very strong magical being, that can be bound to a sapient humanoid being. I have a feeling I can be bound by different races such as humans and elves. Probably a lot more fantasy races can bind me, but these are the two I feel the strongest connection to.

I came into contact with summons at a young age, playing Final Fantasy IX. I have questioned being a non-canonical Eidolon from FF IX multiple times. Eidolons are this FF's version of summoned beings. I think maybe every single FF has a summoner class or a character able to do summons. These summons aren't always called by the same name, different versions use different names for them such as Esper, Aeon or Primals/Eikons. As a child I mostly found the Eidolons fascinating and beautiful. I felt a strong connection to one of the summoners in the game immediately. It is with time that it clicked for me that I wanted to be her Eidolon.

My feelings toward being a summon are also why I try to link mew on and off, as it is a very similar experience. A pokémon as powerful as mew can still be caught in a pokéball by a teenager. A pokémon like mew, with a trainer, that it will only listen to if the trainer is strong enough.

So I guess pokékin who identify as having trainers can quite understand what it feels like to be bound. A relationship between a dog and their owner can mirror this too somewhat, except in such a relationship it is probably the owner who takes care of the dog mostly, and the dog is free to go and leave, whereas with a pokémon/trainer and summon/summoner relationship, it is the one who is bound who is the stronger, yet subservient one. I don't really like using the term subservient for this, because in any good case the relationship is a mutual respectful one and the goals and desires of both align. Yet I know a pokémon or summon in most cases will still obey a command given that goes against their will and nature if the trainer or summoner is strong enough to impose their will.

Also I am genuinely curious

Do ny'all think there's a strong correlation between PMD being one of one's favorite parts of the Pokemon Series and being Alterhuman in some manner (especially for like y'know Therians and Non-humanoid otherkin and most especially Pokékin)

Because it definitely appeals to the fantasy of not being human.... Right down to how so many of the games end with your character wishing to stay a pokemon instead of becoming human again, like those bonds you've made with other pokemon are more valuable than being human again

I've been playing Pokemon Scarlet with a couple of friends and we're playing together. Catching Pokemon, trying to figure out what team we want to make, what typings we seem to prefer. Doing the whole gig as you'd expect

So far none of us know what type we'd consider our favorite and don't have any favorite Pokemon but both of my friends currently have at least a few Pokemon as probably permanent team members..

While I haven't clicked to anything we've come across so far.

I know it's completely possible I just really have not come across anything that happens to click with me and I'm speaking way too soon

But my mind can't stop wondering if being Pokékin has something to do with how hard it is for me to click with a type and make a team and other details for pretending to be a trainer.

How about for any other Pokékin?

Do you have trouble clicking with types or making teams? What do you feel about having your identity Pokémon on your team?

I have two Pokétypes, as far as I know, and neither share typings. I thought when I started the game I'd click fast with either of their typings but, surprisingly, no so far. I also don't seem to want them on my team just to have and travel with them. 🤔

Introducing Theriofictional

For quite a while now I've been wishing I had a term like theriomythic to describe myself. I didn't feel like it fully fit me due to the fact that the animal species I identify as (a trico, from The Last Guardian) is a fictional species. So I spent some time trying to search for a fictional equivalent of the term theriomythic, but I couldn't find one which has led me to the decision to create my own.

What Does Theriofictional Mean?

Someone who is theriofictional identifies as an animal that is found in fiction. This could mean being a fictional animal species or a specific fictional animal character. Just how someone who is theriomythic identifies as a mythical animal or creature that is animalistic or "beastly", it's pretty much the same case for someone who is theriofictional but instead their identity lies in fiction and not mythology or folklore.

What's The Point Of The Term?

I can't speak for others on this, but I can explain why I feel it was important to create this term. I feel that much of the fictionkin community leans heavily towards discussions of being humanoid or human characters, even though there are plenty of nonhuman and nonhumanoid fictionkin. This has caused me to feel out of place in the fictionkin community at times, and even though I still identify as fictionkin I feel that my identity as my fictotype fits in better with the therian or otherkin communities at times.

I decided to create the term theriofictional for the same reason people use the term theriomythic, because of overlapping experiences that don't always fit in neatly with one part of the alterhuman community or another.

How Do I Know If I'm Theriofictional?

You are if you say you are, if you find that your experiences line up with how I've described this term then it's up to you if you consider yourself theriofictional or not. If you find comfort in the term and want to label yourself with it, I'm glad that you do! If you don't, then I'm also glad that you're happy without it! Put simply: I don't control anyone's identity, and I don't know you better than you know yourself.

Okay so only after I made this post did I see that there is already an existing term, fictherian. However, just like otherhearted and kith are different terms for the same experience I'd like to keep this post up. I encourage people interested in this term to also explore the term fictherian and come to a personal conclusion.
