Things that don't make sense in poke-madhouse part 1?

So... I haven't posted on this site in a hot minute. (college be damned) So I'm making up for that now. I might make post like these where I rant and rave about poke-madhouse and how bullshit the plot points are. As well as dunking on Lily. So if you're interested in this please let me know. Anyways one thing of that I've noticed that has always kinda aggravated me about poke-madhouse; is that Lily claims that the gardevoir line is an endangered pokemon and the rarest. When other pokemon exist and fit the bill better than gardevior ever could. Pokemon such as Deino and Lapras. Lapras because back in the red and blue entries it makes note of how they was an endangered species. And even in sun and moon it mentions on how it was near extinction, but because of protective regulations there's been an overpopulation.

And Deino because the thing's blind and it's dex entries makes note on how it'll ram and bit into anything. Causing it to have multiple wounds and bruises. You could easily spin that into Deino's falling off cliffs, eating poisonous berries, or just dying because it encountered a strong pokemon.

But no the most endangered species in pokemon was the psychic type that can sense a person's intentions, could teleport, and also doesn't have any disabilities to hinder it's survival.

So there's a couple of things that bother me about Pokemadhouse that I don't think anyone talked about before, but one in particular really stands out to me now that both Lily and Ginger got so high and mighty over what makes good trans representation.

It's that C!Lily is, there's no other way to put it, a cis woman. As in, the narrative depicts her as raised as a girl with no mention of transition in any way, shape or form. And her parents are depicted as bigoted so we can't say that "oh they let 3 yo Lily socially transition".

Now, I want to be extremely clear, that this isn't an inherently bad thing. I'm trans myself and I understand the appeal of always looking "how you were supposed to" and that depicting your pre-transition self can be painful. If Pokemadhouse was this light, slice of life comic where bigotry didn't exist at all or is just never mentioned I would probably not talk about it.

But that's the thing, it isn't free from bigotry and that's why it's puzzling to me. The most damning thing is that C!Lily experiences violent homophobia(or biphobia/lesbophobia to be more specific) from her parents. And other Bad Things happen to her as well, just not transphobia.

This doesn't make me angry or anything it's just that, I don't get it? Is homophobia more "bearable" form of bigotry to Lily? Or is it more easy to romantacize? Is it one of the weird ways her twisted TERF-like ideology manifests, just like with her "women and afabs" Sith Utopia?

Idk I guess my point is that, Lily really shouldn't go on and on how she wants trans stories to be written and then just, almost never write them even when depicting herself. She clearly has some unpacked issues(that will probably stay that way unfortunately), kinda weird to then be snarky at other trans people who find the concept of shapeshifting and whatnot appealing.

Lily's entire rant about Marah is hilarious and show how much of a bad writer she is. I'm gonna talk about Marah' writing because Lily has made it clear that she's desperate for people to interact with her work. Your welcome Lily ☺️

Okay well for one Marah's looks are a major factor to her character because it's the entire reason she becomes a recurring character. The reason C!Lily let's Marah stay in the house is because of G's immediate attraction towards her. Before seeing G's reaction to Marah, C!Lily wasn't willing to let her stay.

And as for G being the only one to find Marah attractive...

This means Marah does sit in the "Fat but still conventionally attractive because she's curvy" category.

But whatever.

Okay well apparently a plus sized character being really cheerful or annoying is also a stereotype. So good job proving people's point Lily. 👍

And I know this post is about Marah but the running theme of every Gardevoir in the comic is that they are equally irritating and endearing?

If that was Lily's intention the entire time then she did terribly.

This could apply to Bonnie but not to any of the other Gardevoirs.

G is boring at best and a horrible person to everyone around her at worst.

Cora literally does nothing wrong.

Syir hasn't appeared in the comic yet but according to her wiki page she is basically a mass murderer and doesn't seem to have any likable character traits.

Marah not respecting boundaries doesn't come across as irritating because we only see it happen once. Marah assumes G and C!Lily are dating and then asks C!Lily why they aren't. Considering how G and C!Lily act towards eachother, I can't really blame Marah for thinking this.

So basically in order to see Marah as a fleshed out character we need to know your friend first? That's not good writing.

Literally the first interaction G has with Marah is looking at her and being immediately attracted to her. You can say that Marah isn't conventional attractive, but when you have G talk about how hot Marah is than the audience is going to assume that Marah is supposed to be attractive.

Also, in Poke Madhouse, Gardevoir as a species are constantly groomed into relationships with their trainers. Gardevoir are groomed to the point that it's literally driving them to extinction.Again, Lily can say that Gardevoir's are creepy looking and not seen as attractive. But the world she has written implies that many people see Gardevoir as attractive.

Lily, if everyone is misunderstanding Marah's character then it's probably YOUR fault because YOU'RE the one writing the comics. Instead of getting mad at this criticism, maybe actually try to figure out why people aren't interpreting Marah's character the way you intended.

But no apparently this the criticism isn't valid because Lily doesn't agree with it. Lily's now is just giving up on writing plus sized characters, because apparently it's too much work to actually try to do it right. If this means Marah won't appear in Madhouse anymore then R.I.P Marah, you were one of the better characters in Poke Madhouse.

it was recently brought to my attention that the Violate arc for madhouse was completely just NUKED. it just skips straight to the aftershocks arc which...I'm sure a lot of gossip blogs are making a lot of hay regarding the dishonesty in trying to ignore the existence of the arc in question; somehow I'm more offended that it just makes the writing of the story even worse because now the story reads like AB DEF HIJK completely throwing off the rhythm.

C!Lily and G's interactions in the aftershock arc is informed entirely from....something the story isn't going to tell you because the writer decided to completely retcon what is arguably a core segment of the story. Why is C!Lily putting a lock on her and C!Mikaila's door? don't worry about it. Why is G and C!lily having so many of the very emotional and serious conversations they have? Don't ask questions just roll with it.

It just makes the story worse. somehow.

Yes, you'd be right. Though rather than parroting everyone else I want to remind that there are just zero redeeming qualities to her. Her stylings, mostly lifted from better entertainers and critics. Her fanfics, are only good in premise and do not hold up under critical scrutiny (which when your career is being a critic just reflects extra poorly.) The part of her that I was indeed a fan of was always a veneer of authority and intelligence that rotted away once I peered beneath the surface and, you guessed it, found the years of abuse and lies.

There's plenty of people who have far more authority than me to speak of Lily as a person. So I hold the line at saying that yall needn't worry, Lily Orchard's body of work is just as bad as all the other stuff you hear about her. Steven Universe may be garbage, but Lily of all people could hardly tell you why. Search her name here on tumblr and there's more than enough to prove she's a whole landfill. Her writing and criticisms may not be the most important thing she fucks up in, but it is a thing. So rather than try and speak for Lizzy or britts-galaxy-brain or patch, I'll just nestle myself all snug in this little niche. Reminding you all that unlike the guy that did Rurouni Kenshin or the Harry Potter lady, awful people with good to great bodies of work, Lily is far less complicated in being an awful person with an equally awful body of work. Have a nice day random internet user. Also Lily if you're reading this just because it's fanfiction doesn't mean we can't judge, it is something we can all see and judge you for. If you don't want the heat don't put it online.

What’s your take on G from Pokemadhouse?

Honestly? She's boring.

Ignoring for a moment her more problematic actions, there really isn't all that much to her character.

Her main defining trait is her love and over protectiveness of CLily. But she's also the one who's hurt CLily the most, and wallows a lot as a result.

Really, if G isn't feeling sad, she's ether crushing on Mara/Lily, or being combative and I just don't find that engaging.

I honestly think that G was at her best when Butterfree was still a part of the comic. They had a cute, healthy dynamic, and G was soft and loving towards them.

They could have easily had the cinnabun x hothead dynamic, and I think they where well on their way to being there, but Lily pulled the plug on that and G justs kind of waffled ever since.

It's adorable, cute, and kind of more of what I would have like to see from the comic. And there's just something fun about watching a tough badass go all soft for a cutie.)
