Plamo: Pokémon Select 043 Charizard & Dragonite

This was an interesting kit! I built it back in 2020. They share some runner parts (though weirdly not many). This was a dual kit, these models are only about a few inches tall, so smaller than most of the pokemon model kits. They also use stickers in some ways that... ya know, i'm surprised i'm applied the sticker as well as i did. The blue coloring on both their wings are stickers. Also their eyes, and the yellow on Charizard's tail flame. Also, both of the underside of their feet (no you don't get to see, go to charizard & dragonite's onlyfans for that) So these were panel lined a few years ago. And i have to talk about Charizard's articulation: it's surprisingly good for such a small figure. Sure, its arms are stuck in a specific pose but you can rotate the arms in their shoulder sockets. Its neck can tilt up and down, and then its head can further tilt up and down on that. AND, its jaw opens. It's wings have a small range of movement. And, you can bend its legs over; you can also adjust up and down where it's tail is, so if you want to have charizard bent over in a fireblowing pose, the tail provides the necessary counterweight to make that pose possible. Dragonite is far simpler. Its arms can move in their sockets, it can tilt along its legs, and its head can be tilted up, off the jaw. Yeah, the jaw is like "stuck" where it is relative to the body, but the head can move on a hinge up and down. Kinda of doing a hyper beam i guess? Its wings also move a little bit, and its tail can move left and right (somewhat demonstrated in images above). Overall a decent kit of two little models, Charizard is really good. I like Pokepla because they’re a quick and brainless way to occupy my hands while I meditatively Don’t Think. I decided to hand-paint this Mew’s eyes and I’m satisfied.

This be Bandai's Pokepla kit of Cinderace! I had to get it because of my love of fire types and it's actually not bad. I had some issues with the light orange stickers on the ears but other than that, the stickers went on fine. The interesting thing is that on the front of the kit they use pieces like for the blue on the chest and waist but on the back they use a sticker.

Of course, I had to get a pic of my Cinderace kit and Scorbunny kit side by side. The only thing I really don't like is the noticeable seam lines on the upper thighs. Otherwise, it's a simple to build kit that looks pretty good.

So, I am actually…substantially surprised at how good the cheap Pokepla model kits from Bandai are.

Case in point, this is the Gardevoir kit:

It’s easy to put together, you technically don’t need any tools and you won’t need to do too much cleanup, it has some nice poses to it, and it’s a nice looking figurine once it’s built.

I am extremely curious about how the other kit I have (Riolu + Lucario) is gonna turn out.

Plamo: Pokémon Select 014: Zekrom

This one's another kit that utilizes a number of stickers that probably could have been done with another pass at color separation. But whatever. This kit is neat, but it has some other problems too: The articulation on the arms is a little on the flimsy side. It's kinda neat that the nails can be jostled but that's not much. It's hard to keep the arms in one position (in fact i used some camera trickery to even get some of the poses seen above). Furthermore, the weight of both the wings and the arms are tied to the mechanism that makes it open its mouth. So if it's in a standing position, you simply cannot keep it's mouth open, unlike its counterpart Reshiram, which had minimal articulation that could keep in its multiple configurations. Beyond the elbow joints wihch surrender to gravity, and the shoulder joints attached to the wings that control the mouth opening, there's no articulation here. Also, i would have liked to do something to mak it look like it's in Overdrive Mode, but i currently don't know how to paint Clear Black Plastic in some sort of bright blue. Also it looks like i scuffed the right eye decal a bit. The bottoms of the feet are stickers, which work well. But the kneecaps are also stickers, two on each kneecap, which... again, the problem with stickers on a curved surface, even when you properly angle them, are nigh impossible to get perfectly smooth and thus the adhesive loses its effect,. There's a plate on his back that's also a sticker, some of the shoulder blades, the blue tip of his head horn, and the eyes (which as always are Fine)

I've taken a recent liking to making gunpla (I also just got a pokepla figure of Mew some hours ago) and rn I keep imagining some arc v (and some other ygo) monsters i find fitting to have model kits (I keep thinking of Clear Wing as a candidate :V) and like—

I need more ygo kits. Please. At least we have BEWD & Exodia but I—we need more! I wanna indulge the part of me that loves building in ygo too...

And dude wont it be just awesome to have a huge Clear Wing or Raidraptors Satellite Canon Falcon or other ygo monster model hanging (not literally) in some part of a room? Bc I think it would be :P

current obsession: still chipping away at The Price of Living On, my gundam 00 innovator!neil au fic. having fun with it and smiling so so serenely and sweetly about the events i'm writing. 💃

in addition to that i just finished building the lugia pokepla, on which i did my very first Spraypaint Attempt with tamiya paints + primers and a mr. hobby matte coat on top! i made some little goofs in there for sure but overall i'm SUPER happy with it and very excited to do gunpla projects with spraypainting in the future!
