The Ink Demonth 2023 - Day 18. Purpose

Day 18. Purpose Crossover: The Heroic Quest of the Valiant Prince Ivandoe DID ANYONE EXPECT PRINCESS SAMMY'S RETURN? Even I didn't expect it. Originally the idea was that the foreground was supposed to be Bendy sitting in the bushes, holding a golden feather (the object of Prince Ivandoe's quest) and giggling, but then I remembered the existence of Princess Sammy... I remembered episod when Ivandoe was saving Princess Syllabob and the idea blossomed in my head. PS. If Ivandoe agrees to help Sammy, he has no chance against Tom X"D

If someone doesn't know this animated series, they should catch up immediately. For me, this series is the discovery of the year - it is wonderfully fresh, charming and surprising. Although at first glance it may seem that Prince Ivandoe is a typical spoiled brat from the royal family, convinced of his greatness - to my surprise, it quickly turns out that he really is brave, good and even noble (the episodes with the "dragon", with getting the medicine, with saving Syllabob). Yes, he is clumsy and not particularly talented - but he has the potential to become a really good king in the future. He is a surprisingly positive character. A bit like Gumball, but with (in my opinion) much less flaws. His relationship with squire Bert is also different than it seems at first glance - there is no typical use of sidekick in every way and giving nothing in return - it is clear that these two are friends and really want to be together and help each other. I recommend it - 'cause although the idea seems trite at first, with subsequent episodes it turns out that the creators had a cool idea for the world, plot and a different character development than it might seem at first glance.

I must admit that I really enjoyed colouring and making this - even the background was fun to make. Plus there is a funny way of marking chiaroscuro on characters in this cartoon - I will have to experiment with it in my other drawings.

By the way I wonder if Princess Sammy still counts as SATIM, or if I should write Handsome and the Ink Beast at the bottom - in fact, it has already evolved into a separate series... but no. For now it's still SATIM :D

The Heroic Quest of the Valiant Prince Ivandoe is so darn good!!!

It's a shame that the overseas release of this show (which, yes, is from the Gumball staff) has been such a hot mess because it is such a fun time even just two episodes in! It has such a fun cast of characters between the main duo (WE MUST STAN BERT!) and the many one-off characters, the humor is absolutely hilarious, and there's a genuine heart and intrigue to the show and it's world that make it that much more of a great adventure! (Seriously, the second episode made me emotionally invested in the well-being of a giant chicken monster. What have the people at this studio been on for the past 12½ years and where can I find it?) The best way I can describe it is that it feels like just tiny drops of Gumball's tone and 2D character design style (which should be obvious), Monty Python and the Holy Grail's spoofing of fantasy tropes, and even Over the Garden Wall's variety in settings (okay, maybe not much like that last one at all in any other way, but I digress). Such a great start for a show that I will definitely be keeping track of, even if I wish it didn't air new episodes so freaking early. (Seriously, does Cartoon Network even want to have a hit show anymore?)

In fact, the weird and sad thing about CN being at death's door and having so few new shows is that the ones I have gotten off my lazy butt to see have still been so good, between this and Unicorn: Warriors Eternal (I know it was slapped onto adult swim at the 11th hour, but that's a CN show and you won't convince me otherwise, although I'm kinda glad [as] is taking it in if for no other reason than them not being allergic to Blu-Rays and decent scheduling). Admittedly Zaslav being Zaslav does worry me about both shows' futures, but hey, Unicorn at least has the armor of technically being aired as a show on the seemingly safer [adult swim] and the credentials of a legendary creator who wants to do three more seasons, while Ivandoe is apparently already at like Season 3 or something in Italy so at least I already know there's plenty more to come. Regardless of studio locations (or countries) and the company's fragile state, there's still magic left in Cartoon Network, and I really hope these two great shows are not the last we see of it.

Anyways check out new episodes Saturday mornings at 9 ET on Cartoon Network! Considering how good this show is and how bad CN is at marketing it, I have no shame playing the shill here.

Also apparently if an ex-animator is to be believed, Gumball Season 7 is coming out mid-to-late 2024 while the movie is on hold and I have no clue what to think. The way they'll handle that cliffhanger has just looked muddier by the day since it aired, but hopefully the show itself will still be as good we expected because wow I've missed peak Gumball! (Bonus points if it's actually as good as Seasons 2, 3, and suprisingly 6, instead of the kinda disappointing Seasons 4 and 5 although that's all a rabbit hole for another day.)

Not surprise to see “Teen Titans Go!” crossovers that I’m aware of. However, this one takes the cake for the most unbelievable. 😧

Originally scheduled for September 2023, they’ll be a new episode that heavily added Warner Bros owned properties from Hanna-Barbera, Looney Tunes, DC Comics, and even Cartoon Network like you won’t believe.

Cartoon Network announced their Fall premieres.

Bugs Bunny Builders is premiering new episodes this week (August 7th-11th) at 8:45 am.

We Baby Bears gets new episodes starting on August 26th at 10:00 am. It is described as a story arc, and will feature Linda Lindas, Anderson .Paak, and Willow Smith.

Batwheels gets new episodes on September 11th at 7:45 am, with a special episode featuring the voice of the late Adam West on September 15th. One can assume this means using archival footage.

Teen Titans Go! will have a Warner Bros. 100th Anniversary special on September 23rd at 9:30 am.

The Heroic Quest of the Valiant Prince Ivandoe will finally have its US debut on November 11th at 9:00 am.

Jessica's Big Little World is conspicuously absent.

Cartoon Network Asia Schedule Changes & Highlights from January 2023

1st Jan - they added 1 movie after marathon at 9a - Batwheels moved forward from 8:30a to 9:45a - Holiday Hangout block was ended, so the 9a-11a schedule changed to LTC (9:30a, originally at 12:30p) & Mechamato/Mr. Bean Animated changed to TTG (10:30a), then on 3p-5p schedules changed to Mechamato (3:30p) & LTC again (4:30p) - they added 1 more additional hrs of Gumball at 12:30p, so 3hrs till 3:30p - We Baby Bears still at 5:30p, but RMA is removed (for real this time) and replaced with WBB at 6:30p - rerun of Batwheels, was originally at 4p, moved 2hr to 6p - Mechamato & Jellystone (removed) replaced with double TTG from 7:30p-9p - Mr. Bean Animated changed to WBB at 9p

2nd Jan HOLIDAY HANGOUT BLOCK WAS ENDED - SU & RS just swiped out the schedule, RS swipe from 1a to 2a, then SU swipe from 2a to 1a - no more doubles for TTG, the 1hr slot changed with LTC at 4:30p - Mechamato still, but on weekdays at 7p, replacing LTC - Jellystone was completely removed again at 7:35p, replaced with double TTG from 7:25p-9p for weekdays

6th Jan For Fridays, Batweels still on from 7:30p-8p

7th Jan - After the movie, double WBBB & WBB is on from 8:30a-10a - Batwheels moved again to 10a

13th Jan (Friday the 13th) This year, Friday the 13th is back with the Scooby-Doo the 13th Ghost at 7p

21st-23rd Jan Full of Looney Tunes marathons/Year of the Bunny : - BLT from 6a-9a plus premiere of Bugs Bunny Builders at 8:30a/6:25p (Weekend) - LTC from 9a-10p plus sneak peak of Ivandoe (full series) at 12p/6p (Weekend)

28th Jan Bugs Bunny Builders was fully premired at 8:30a/6:30p, replacing WBB
