BBC Merlin is a tragedy in that Merlin's choices that were all to save Arthur's life led to Arthur's death, but that doesn't mean it was all for nothing!! The events across their 10 years together led to a new world order which eventually brought about everything they had worked towards!! PLUS THEIR RELATIONSHIP BROUGHT JOY AND MEANING TO BOTH OF THEIR LIVES!! That means something!! GUYS!! listen guys that MEANS SOMETHING!!

He protected Gilli and told him about his magic even tho he couldve betrayed him!! #it's just that he HAD to also protect himself!! it was self preservation ok! #and sure eventually protecting arthur became more important to him than anything else #but how can ya'll play/watch TLOU and be like OBV Joel would doom the world for Ellie and then turn around and be like #merlin is a traitor to his people!! he did all he could for the promise of their future!!! and he's YOUNG and he DID HIS BEST #and how many people would let their loved ones die for a vague idea of a better society #yeah I'm a merlin apologist what of it #it's just such a nuanced issue you know i'm not saying he was right but i'm not saying he was wrong either

You know what I wish we got? At least one episode where Merlin is incapacitated or injured for most of it and Arthur is worried, for a longer period of time.

Cause in The Poisoned Chalice, he sees Merlin hurt/suffering one time, right before he leaves, and then next he sees him, he’s fine. A Servant of Two Masters? Same thing, he’s there when he gets hurt but he’s healthy when he comes back. Another’s Sorrow too, when Morgana almost kills him. Arthur’s like, we can’t wait for him and the next he sees him, he’s fine.

The Darkest Hour is kind of like that, but not exactly what I mean. He’s upset about Merlin for sure, but he’s not there for Arthur to look after.

I want an episode like all those times Merlin had to watch Arthur fighting for his life in his bed. Merlin had to watch over him, cure him, heal him, and whatnot many times. He had to see him suffering for several days at a time before he could fix it.

Every time Arthur sees Merlin suffering, it’s brief and almost never fixed by him. The Poisoned Chalice is really the only time we see Arthur entirely responsible for saving him. He gets him out of the fight in A Servant of Two Masters, but he wasn’t the one who saved him in the end. He was spared by Morgana and saved himself.

I would’ve loved an episode where Merlin was cursed or something and Arthur had to try and find the cure or the way to break the curse without going on a huge quest that would take him away from Merlin, maybe something inside the castle being the answer. I needed more protective/worried Arthur Goddamnit.
