them :) dino refs finally complete, so now i can make all the joke comics i want
design thoughts under the cut
aang- second hardest design to ge through. at first i couldn't decide on a species, and then i couldn't get the colors to work. believe it or not, bright yellow right next to bright blue is painful to look at. so instead i opted for an all orange color pallette. does he look like a candy corn? yes. and we love him for it. puny lil candy corn avatar
katara- sweet baby so easy, love her, perfect design, no tears shed except for joy. also GIGANTIC. non negotiable part of her design tbh. and aquatic dino!! spinosaurus was the only choice. the sail is meant to look like her necklace! isnt that cool. im so cool and talented.
sokka- nanuqsaurus is! maybe a cold weather dino. possibly. so we did that. he's smaller than his sister and he's mad about it :) also, him face is warriors paint!! and i know that atla water tribes didn't really have anything to do with orcas, but I love orcas and i wanted to give sokka some recognizably hunter-y pattern. so, orca white markings.
toPH- i am ENDLESSLY SUGFERING. do you know how many times i flip flopped on toph's species. do you understand how many hours i spent debating over the benefits of triceratops vs protoceratops?? ankylosaurus vs. pachysephalosaurus???? my agony is unending. im still unsure. sacrificing the concept that toph could take down a t rex (trike) for the small n unassuming character theme (proto). also the badgermole looking markings are cool i guess
zuko- this is where you pretend that im bot playing favorites when it comes to dino species. why is he a deinonychus? cuz i like big raptors, that's why. go away. dont look at me. he's cute. he looks like a bird and i love that for him. also something something aang and zuko similar species that specialize differently based on how their environments changed them, zuko an echo of the potential of flight and aang an echo of the potential to hunt. flock bird vs pack hunter. same but different.

I have some questions about the winged boys if you don't mind
How many people have wings? Is it everyone or just the heroes or a random percentage? Does the amount change between worlds
If more people have wings what decides the species of the bird that the child gets? Especially if the parents are two different species that in our world cannot reproduce
How much of the instinct of the bird is taken over in the hylian? We have seen some of the food being taken over, but what about things such as mating rituals or treatment of siblings?
You've got some great questions which I've....maybe thought about, haha. I'll do my best!
Hylians have wings, but Gerudo, Zora, etc do not. Ravio and Malon have wings, so I'd assume it's the same across all of the worlds. Wings would be a part of the culture, meaning everyone is used to accommodations to life for them. Clothes, furniture, etc. In Wild's era, not as many people fly long distances. Guardians can shoot you out of the air and from high up you can't hear their beeping. They have incredible range.
For the species of the child...it's influenced not by the parents, but the personality. There's a legend that the Goddesses pick a wing type for each hylian to best fit who they will grow up to be. Some resent what they are stuck with, some embrace it. Some feel the bird doesn't fit them till later in life. Whether it's true or not, they do get some of the instincts and mannerisms from the bird. Especially flock vs solitary birds. Just like introverts vs extroverts! A solitary bird can still form a close bond with someone, they just won't be as happy as a flock bird in the middle of a chatting group.
I've done a nice sidestep on mating up to this point 😅 Some of it might depend on mating ritual of the bird (bowerbirds like Legend go all out decorating a room to look nice) and some is more based on personality (Time is disgustingly doting on Malon). Siblings are close, even if they might not be the same bird type. Wind LOVES his sister and followers her around. There may be a propensity for similar bird types to show up in similar families (raptors might lead to more raptors, etc.) There's a potential for a dividing line of passerine vs non-passerine birds as far as inheriting wings buuut I don't know if I want to commit to that.
Instincts are just that, instincts. A natural, automatic reaction, but one that can be tempered with the mind. It's how they learn to coexists, especially if they might not normally be comfy around another type of bird. Or Sky, stealing food, still knows to stay away from Warrior's food. He could override the instinct every time with enough active thought and attention, but they are all used to indulging their avian sides a little. If it doesn't cause a problem, it's generally fair game on holding it back or not.

Clan Names - Additional Notes
Spruce and Conifer are more common with the lakeside territories than with the forest territories. Pine and Fir are more common to the forest clans. Mostly based on location of growing.

Number Based Names are more common when there’s a specific name in mind - usually the clans only use up to the number four.

Drift is a common suffix for the Escorts of WindClan but also for lakeside RiverClan warriors

Lightning is also used by ThunderClan for those who are struck by lightning and survive. It’s a very honorable suffix and these survivors are considered blessed by Sunsoul.

The meaning of Cloud- changes based on what kind of cloud the cat is named after. A dark gray cloud means headstrong and determined - it’s a workaround of storm-. Meanwhile a white cloud implies happiness or gentle emotions.

All the clans have pet names for the apprentices of other clans; Maggotpaw (ShadowClan), Minnowpaws (RiverClan), Bunnypaws (WindClan), Fawnpaws (ThunderClan), Chickpaws (SkyClan).

Burrow is a common tunneler suffix. Burrowers is a nicer term to refer to the tunnelers of WindClan.

Mud and Muck are often used for Murkers in ShadowClan and within RiverClan, as the name for craftcats. Muckypaws are the titles of both clans’ new apprentices (murker and apprentices) who have just gotten into the messier parts of their jobs.

The clans refuse to use the names of the founders as prefixes within their own clans. ShadowClan cannot use Shadow-, RiverClan will not use River-, SkyClan won’t use Sky-, ThunderClan won’t use Thunder- and WindClan won’t use Wind-.
Using the words as suffixes is perfectly fine however; SkyClan won’t have a cat named Skytalon but they’re fine with naming a cat Eveningsky. A founder’s suffix is an honorable thing to be proud of within the clans.

thirty-sixth season game WIN: Raps vs Warriors (133-118)
Y'all, I thought the Raptors would lose this one, but turns out...the Warriors didn't have an answer for the red hot Canadians RJ Barrett and Chris Boucher??? 😂🇨🇦
Barrett scored a mind-boggling 37pts, honestly, he was on FIRE. I couldn't believe my eyes! I expected him to be very inconsistent (and he will be, I'm sure) but for now, I hope he manages to keep the hot streak going! 🔥🔥🔥
Chris Boucher helped with his own mind-boggling stat, going 7/7 with 17pts from the field – after the game, he said, "I've never done that before!" 🥺🔥

The Top Storylines Of The 2023/24 NBA Season
With the NBA regular season set to begin on October 24th, I thought I'd break down which teams and storylines I will be monitoring most closely this season.

1. Milwaukee Is On Dame Time
Now while, things on the court are looking as good as Bucks fans could possibly ask for, there has already been some scuttlebutt amongst the coaches.
The Bucks gave Adrian Payne the head coaching job mere weeks in to the 2023 offseason but Terry Stotts, who is reportedly very close to Damian Lillard having worked with him in Portland, has since left the Milwaukee coaching staff after a verbal dispute with Adrian Payne.
That change in the coaching department is something that Giannis and Dame's collective talent can overcome, unless holes start to emerge in Adrian Payne's game management, like use of timeouts, adjustments or end of quarter offensive or defensive issues.
Dame looked incredible against my Sixers. 39 points, 4 assists and 8 rebounds, is as good as it get, and when you consider that that was the first time they had all 3 of Giannis, Dame and Khris Middleton, you get the sense they are gonna be a problem in the East.

2. Lakers VS Nuggets
It appears there may be some residual feelings between the Lakers and the Denver Nuggets after the Nuggets swept the LA team in last year's conference finals.
Anthony Davis in particular appears to have taken exception to the Nuggets slick comments during their championship parade.
Look, this is an interesting storyline and one that'll be easier to follow because the teams will play 4 times in the regular season, but more importantly, it'll force the media to talk about the Nuggets more.
All in all, the Western Conference needs this type of rivalry just for the sheer entertainment value of things.
The media are already piling it all on Anthony Davis after a toungh opening night, but the Lakers are very much a team that are still fine tuning line-ups and personnel.

3. Boston Celtics
The Celtcis took what could have been a very complicated off season, and turned into lemonade by making notable additions.
Adding Kristapz Porzingiz was a head scratcher given the presence of Al Horford, but the addition of Jrue Holiday is by far thier biggest and best addition after trading Marcus Smart to the Grizzlies.
There were questions when the Celtics opted to pay Jalyen Brown and give him the richest contract in the NBA today, but the way they've followed it up indicates a change in mindset. Former Cleveland Cavaliers power forward Lamar Stevens.
I am not happy at all that they got Jrue Holiday but The Celtics appear ready, and fears behind paying Jaylen Brown causing the team to have less depth, appear to have been assuaged for now.
They've opened the with wins over the Knicks and the Heat, and you gotta feel they have enough to be in the conversation this year.

4. Toronto Crossroads
The Toronto Raptors had hit a wall since 2019.
They had stockpiled a bunch of good young players, but the pieces had not quite fit together and the 2nd round appeared to be as far as the team could go wit that group.
Course correction has already begun, and once Fred Vanvleet was out the door and on his way to Houston, word started to trickle out as far as how some of the other Raptors felt about his game.
Masai Ujiri addressed this on media week, emphasizing how no egos would be tolerated and many have since connected the dots and realized who he was talking about.
The reality is that, the Raptors have got OG Anunoby, Pascal Siakam and Scottie Barnes as the cornerstones of thier team. Adding veterans like Jakob Poetl last season, and then Dennis Schroder thiss offseason, signals that they are all about the grown of their 3 allstar quality wing players.

5. CP3 And The New Look Warriors
This is not the first time CP3 has been in a situation where he is paired with another elite guard, but this should hopefully be a better fit for his own skill set.
He was an absolute nightmare hunting the mismatch against Jusuf Nurkic in a loss during season opener against the Phoenix Suns, the question is, whther having him and Steph on the court at all times is sustainable given how the Suns and the Nuggets in particular have 1-on-1 players to give him and Steph problems.
Along with the obligatory problems with size on the interrior, that the Warriors just seem to live with at this point, is whether they are still going to get the same Klay Thompson, he did pitch in with 15 points and 3 assists, but time will tell.
