The Midsummer festival features ritual sex and death and hallucinogenic drugs. Will is the last one standing at the end of a demanding maypole dance and he is crowned the May Queen. He wields a terrible power in this role, sentencing his unworthy boyfriend to a gruesome death as part of the Hårga's sacrifice to their pagan gods. Following this harrowing ceremony, he goes looking for the man who welcomed him in.
