#reliably informed that i should get into green arrow
uncloseted · 2 years
Note
how do i learn to think for myself and do my own research before forming my own opinions on issues? how do i find unbiased sources? i feel like i'm too easily influenced my own good. like if a blog i like say "bloobo beeping is bad and everyone who ever blobbed is a beep" i will start to think its true even though i dont know if it is or doubt it. especially if the person i admire and trust their opinion.
This is a great question! We often talk about how media literacy is really important, but we don't always talk about how to actually evaluate the information that we get.
Finding an Unbiased Source
The first thing I would suggest is checking out the Ad Fontes Media Bias Chart. This is a resource that ranks sources based on their left-right bias and how factual their reporting is. The sources that are at the top towards the middle and middle-left are generally trustworthy. The ones below the green line should be treated with caution, and may be trying to convince you to take a particular point of view. If you see a person talking about an issue on social media, it's best to assume that they're towards the bottom of the chart unless you have reason to believe otherwise (they're a journalist associated with a respectable news outlet, they're an expert in their field, etc).
Tumblr media
Logical Fallacies
Once we know what sources are generally reliable, it’s important to understand how data can be distorted. This is a good introduction to some of the common logical fallacies that are used when trying to convince people of a point. Logical fallacies are common types of mistakes that people make when putting together an argument, and they're important to look out for when you're being introduced to a new idea. Logical fallacies are especially common on social media sites like Reddit and Tumblr, but they also appear in more “official” media like news articles and online publications. These include arguments like the Slippery Slope argument (“If we ban Hummers because they are bad for the environment eventually the government will ban all cars, so we should not ban Hummers.”), hasty generalizations (”even though it’s only the first day, I can tell this is going to be a boring course.”), begging the claim (”Filthy and polluting coal should be banned.”), and ad hominem attacks (”Green Peace’s strategies aren’t effective because they are all dirty, lazy hippies.”) among others. If you see a person using a logical fallacy to support their argument, it might be worth asking why they're resorting to that kind of tactic instead of letting the facts speak for themselves.
Lies, Damn Lies, and Statistics: Data Manipulation
It's also really important to understand how data and statistics can be manipulated in order to support a given claim.  We see this a lot in the news lately- both sides of a debate appear to have equally valid "facts" that totally contradict one another. This is usually because one side (or both sides) are manipulating the statistics to make them look like they support the claim that's being made, even when they really don't.
For example, people will use “relative risks” to make a problem look bigger than it actually is.  Saying that murders have doubled sounds like a huge problem, but it’s not really that big of an issue if the number of murders went from 1 to 2.  Similarly, people will use “only x number of people” or “over x number of people” to make a problem sound bigger or smaller, even if the reality is that it’s the same number of people.  This powerpoint from UCSD does a good job of illustrating some of the more common ways that data is manipulated to prove a point.
Graphs and other visuals can also be manipulated to make a problem seem bigger or smaller than it actually is.  For example, this graph was shown in Congress to convince people to defund Planned Parenthood in the US:
Tumblr media
The red arrow shows abortions increasing over time and cancer screenings and other preventative services decreasing over time.  This isn’t an outright lie, but the graph above is actually two graphs overlaid and hasn’t been corrected for scale.  When you correct for scale, it looks more like this:
Tumblr media
Which is a way different takeaway than the first graph had.
When talking about statistics, it’s also important to remember that correlation does not equal causation.  This is a logical fallacy like the ones we were talking about before. If you want to be fancy, it's called "post hoc ergo propter hoc". It just means that someone is assuming that if ‘A’ happened after 'B’ then 'B’ must have caused 'A.'
For example, here’s a graph of people who died by falling out of their beds compared against the number of lawyers in Puerto Rico.  At first glance, it might seem like these two are related in some way, since the graphs line up (they’re correlated).  But obviously, people dying by falling out of their beds has no impact on the number of lawyers in Puerto Rico or vice versa.  There’s no causal relationship between the two of them.
Tumblr media
Once you understand the ways that media can be manipulated, it becomes easier to think critically about what you’re reading, hearing, or seeing.
Some Questions To Ask Yourself
When you interact with something new, there are a few questions you should ask yourself in addition to keeping your eyes open for logical fallacies and data manipulation.
Who is the author? What is their bias?
What is the publication? What is its bias?
What is the author's purpose for writing this article?
What is the author's point of view on this issue?
What is the author trying to convince me of?
What assumptions is the author making in this article? Try to challenge these claims in your own mind.
Be wary of articles that are using emotional words or manipulation in their headlines ("politician SLAMS innocent young girl for suggesting that families are important" or "Perverted teacher indoctrinates kindergarteners into CRT cult!"). Also be wary of articles that ask a question in the headline ("are teachers indoctrinating our children?" or "will playing video games give you cancer?"). The answer to any headline question is pretty much always "no".
If you can, look for other sources that corroborate what you’re reading (especially if it’s a social media post) and sources that challenge what you’re reading.  Getting a full picture of the issue is important in being able to critically interact with media even if you already know which side you think you agree with.  Try to consider alternative explanations for the issue and the larger context of what you’re reading about to prevent just taking the article at face value.
Lastly, it’s important to understand your own biases and how they might impact what you believe when interacting with new information.  Humans are prone to confirmation bias (interpreting new information as confirmation of our existing beliefs, or throwing out information that doesn’t mesh with our existing beliefs), and so it’s important to understand what your biases are in order to critically interact with new information.  The goal is to be open to new information but aware of all of the extraneous factors that complicate our relationship to media.  Many people see changing their mind as a weakness, but I see it as the ultimate strength.  How great is it that we can grow and change the more we learn?  How great is it that every day, we have the opportunity to be just a bit better than we were yesterday?  Being able to admit that we were wrong is important for emotional growth, and I wish more people were willing to do it.

THE REAL BEST NEWS OF THE UPDATE
The whole banner is boring, these are the real best news tonight.
POGGGGGGGGGGGGGG
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yes, after a long wait of over 4 years, Sophia is finally getting her first alt and as a free unit, which is very nice.
Part of the artwork, as well as the event information, should be out in less than 2 hours since this post's date/time.
Anyway, I'll now comment on a few things about the new units now formally revealed with skills and artwork.
Trailer
youtube
Thoughts
The seasonal units come to no surprise as they were all previously leaked (thanks again Intern-kun!) but there are some interesting things in this reveal and the associated notice.
First of all, you're perhaps wondering how well I did with my guesses on the attires Male Grima and Kurtnaga would be doning plus the free unit potentially being Nasir, well... completely wrong with the last two, Kurthnaga isn't dressing like a Jiangshi, actually looking more like an... emperor? But if you know his role in the Tellius games, then it makes sense, either way he looks nice, I was right with Male Grima, more dressed up than his Female counterpart and the like, but Okuma Yugo takes on drawing Male Grima again and he looks so cool.
However, I'm still shook one of my biggest favs in Elibe got an alt like, out of nowhere, I was totally expecting some Tellius unit that'd go along with the theory I had in mind, nevethless, I'm excited to build her and comment on her gameplay elements (that'll be done once I have her properly built, but I need to prepare some resources in advance), I'll also talk about the event stuff later on, I hope today but something came up recently, so we'll see.
The banner itself remains the same: an easy skip with nothing I do feel like I need right away.
Male Grima is fodder galore for me, fortunately, he's easy to fodder for two full passive skills if one of them is [Sturdy Stance 3]. He's quite fearsome to face if you initiate on an ally of his near him, and he'll be pretty durable, replacing his special with [Moonbow] is also a good call, then add a movement assist, a [Atk/Def Bond] as [Sacred Seal] and he's set. It's also worth noting he's a colorless breath armor unit, giving him less likelihood to get WTD.
Rhea... Idk if that weapon type and animation would give away some important spoilers, but even though I know something regarding her identity, I'd rather continue avoiding spoilers, I have no way to play her home game. She's also another fodder galore unit in my eyes; but onto what's she like as a unit, not as great as Male Grima, and she relies on both keeping herself healthy to reduce incoming damage and deny follow-ups, plus healthy foes to deal follow-up attacks, not the most reliable thing but not too shabby either, keeping her health on check shouldn't be as difficult.
Kurthnaga has a rather interesting weapon over there, it makes its user beefier in enemy phase and you can inherit it to any dragon unit of your liking, the rest isn't exactly too interesting except for maybe [Even Pulse Tie 3] being on a seasonal semi-demote, it's a decent skill that can (in part) counter some teams or units but most of the time, you'll find it useless. He's also added like Spring Narcian, introducing a new {Experience} skill and an inheritable weapon, plus on demote too. 🤨
Lastly, Sothis is with Male Byleth, it seems to be the better fit for her out of the two despite his not-so-recent Legendary alt, since his Female counterpart leads a Duo with Rhea. Fodder galore as well but this one has some things to point out:
Tumblr media
Welp, that's Múspell's C-skill but without {Joint}-esque effect all right, and you can give it to dragons, it'll likely stack with Múspell's C-skill, resulting in a slightly bigger boost in damage dealt and reduction on damage taken, most likely at least.
As a unit, this Duo is also best used on enemy phase, with a Lv.3 {Stance} of any kind being their best A-skill, they should be able to handle themselves just fine, but they're still vulnerable to arrows, green bow users like Rath or Python (for accessable choices) or Shamir with [Deadeye] should be able to quickly dispatch the Duo, they'll also most likely be used in offense than defense I think, they still don't seem super threatening, but their selling point would be the Duo Skill, which can help some units deal with Fallen Edelgard and some other dangers that tend to deny follow-up attacks:
Tumblr media
...And it can be re-used on the same map.
Anyway, it seems everyone here has some sort of focus on being tankier and enemy phase oriented, yet there's a clear ounce of difference in how to use them, but nothing I'd exactly find super broken or must-have, the Duo might come in handy though.
I'll just free pick blue if available, otherwise I guess I'll go for colorless, green or red, I'm moreso looking forward to Sophia... speaking of her, it's possible she'll also play similarly to the units in here and her OG form (being slow and tanky, best used on enemy phase), if that's how she plays out, then [Close Counter], [Atk/Res Rein 3] (though I need a Brady first to properly fodder Plumeria) and [Pact Blooms+] are ready for her, but I'm short on B-skills and other expensive stuff, maybe [Flier Formation 3] since I have one last Díthorba to spare, I could pick [Quick Riposte 3] but my OCD wouldn't let me live with her just inheriting it up to Lv.2, and my only source without promoting anyone is Nah, so I'd have to do with alternatives, we'll see...
Anyway, thanks for reading and I hope you get who you want soon in the banner, hopefully Sophia will do great for you if you plan to build her also.

No Other Version of Me - Chapter One (2/?)
Amalia Queen was once said to be so important that the universe made sure she happened. Yes, it was her mom who said that but it still counts. Now, she's an adult and struggles to be worthy of such sentence. She doesn't want to be a vigilante and make so many sacrifices like the rest of her family, but it doesn't mean she doesn't want to save the world.
Sequel to "Five Lives"
October 2045.
There is something going on.
September was an oddly busy month, one of her roommates decided to move, it was her birthday and then there was her job, which she might have been overdoing. The work she’s been doing in QC isn’t ideal, overseeing their whole process and all of their associated companies to make sure its work was ethical. She doesn’t feel comfortable working in such a capitalist environment, even if it was her family business. But she had no experience, her mom happened to be the CEO of a big company and allowed her to make any changes she felt were needed, so Amalia felt she could do more change by working in the system, changing QC and pressuring other companies to do the same, instead of working outside of it. That being said, she didn’t imagine how much it would have to change when she started and she’s been dedicating her heart to do it.
And, of course, there were all the high holidays which took a lot of the time she didn’t have. So Amalia isn’t sure for how long something has been happening until it came to her attention. The fact that Mom didn’t nag her about not showing up on Shemini Atzeret should have tipped her about where her family’s mind had been on. But Mom never liked bringing vigilante business into holidays, so, for at least a little time, Amalia was living blissfully unaware of anything that happened on Team Arrow.
Continue to read on AO3 or under the cut!
She has no reason to know more than your average Starling citizen. Despite her entire family being intertwined with vigilantism, Amalia prides herself for having nothing to do with it. They do good work, but she’s more interested in changing the cause of the problems instead of the symptoms. They fight crime, she wants to stop them from happening in the first place. Not that she’s doing any world-changing work as of now, but she’s still building her career so that she can, eventually, do her best.  There has never been any bad blood over this, which is why it’s so weird that they are avoiding the subject in such an obvious way.
First, no one mentioned anything. Not even Libbi, who has no concept of what a brain-to-mouth filter even was. Then, there are the looks. The out of context questions on whether she won’t go out of town, maybe study something new or just take a vacation. And, to confirm it, the very much not subtle deflection when she asks about Arrow business during Sunday lunch.
“Now, is the city about to be blown up or what?”
Libbi almost jumps to the question, Amalia just narrows her eyes. Mom and Dad are gone to the kitchen to wash the dishes, being way too eager to stop the conversation Amalia is trying to have.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” is all Libbi had to say, shaking her head and trying to look convincing.
Amalia prays that no one ever arrests her sister, because Libbi’s the worst liar she’s ever seen. Amalia continues to stare at her, knowing her little sister has never been good at keeping her mouth shut and is the weakest link of this secret.
“If there was something like this going on, surely we would tell you. Obviously. We wouldn’t want you to get hurt.”
“Tell me, Libbi.”
If Amalia wasn’t sure before that her family was keeping something from her, the guilty look in her sister’s eyes would be enough to confirm it. Libbi bites her lips and looks back to the kitchen, seeing their parents talking and not paying attention at them. Amalia takes a step forward, closer to Libbi.
“It’s nothing you need to worry about,” Libbi continues, and tries to step away. “Just vigilante business. You know how it is… Crime! Never stops. Always dangerous. New stuff. Bad guys. Murder.”
“Whose murder?” Amalia presses.
“People.”
“Then why don’t you want me to know?”
“Why wouldn’t I want you to know? I’m telling you right now. People are being murdered, it’s crazy.”
“Yes, very. Next thing you know they’ll also start robbing.”
“Ha, funny! See, nothing to talk about, seems like you get the deal,” Libbi smiles and almost runs to the kitchen, under their parents’ wings.
Amalia sighs. She wonders if she can try to manipulate Will into telling her, pretending Libbi already told her something to get information out of him. But that would be too risky. They would all be too defensive right now, realizing she was on to them. Deciding to change her course of action, she gets her phone and tries searching the recent sightings of Team Arrow on the streets.
She knows all the most reliable websites, used to check on them frequently during her first year of college, whenever she felt it was a little too much of not knowing. But it has been a while since she had to check again, being back in Star City and seeing her family almost every week it was not necessary. Until now.
It isn’t surprising to find many pictures of Libbi in her suit, she is the newest vigilante and still causes a lot of rampage around the vigilante-obsessed citizens. Apparently, they started calling her by Lynx, Libbi’s choice for a codename, which is new. Last time they talked, Libbi was complaining about being called “Catgirl” or other names; in Amalia’s opinion it was her own fault for deciding to dress up as a cat, she should have just followed the archer theme, but no, her sister had to dress as an animal to “reflect her identity”. Amalia personally thinks it’s a bit ridiculous, they are supposed to be heroes not furries, but her parents prohibited her from repeating it declaring it “bullying”. The fact that Libbi hasn’t announced to her the achievement of being recognized as Lynx is one more indication that her thoughts are somewhere else – or at least that she’s avoiding talking about Arrow things with her sister.
She has to dig deeper to find something out of the ordinary. But then finally she finds a blurry picture of the Green Arrow being spotted in the past week, the online community is wondering if it’s someone new or if the old one returned. Amalia doesn’t have to wonder, she can recognize her dad in a suit, even if it has been years since she’s seen him wearing one.
If Dad is back on the streets after five years of retirement, it’s either really bad or something personal.
From where she is, Amalia focuses on her family’s voices, hoping they’ll let slip something when they think she isn’t listening. She should know better than that, her parents are no amateurs in the art of secrets and soon Mom is back, sitting next to her on the sofa and bringing up a different subject. Amalia doesn’t fight it; it’s not the time. Libbi might have inherited the vigilante genes, but if there is one thing she learned from her parents was how to strategize.
She waits a couple days before doing anything. Taking this time to dig a little deeper, she searches the latest news reports, even the ones happening outside of Star City. She can’t find anything out of the norm, there seems to be a new gang in Star City responsible for some recent conflicts, but she can’t find how it would relate to her. The more she thinks about it, the more it seems personal. It isn’t anything too dangerous for their family, her parents would have told her if that was the case and, besides, she imagines Will would take the twins out of town if there was any risk at all.
Is one of her roommates involved in crime? Amalia thought back to the two girls she shares an apartment with, thinking it is highly unlikely any of them would get caught up in anything worthy of Team Arrow’s time, especially without Amalia realizing. She does spend a lot of time at work though, so who knows what Ilana and Emma do when she isn’t there? Their own work, Amalia answers herself. This is a futile exercise; it’s not like her Mom didn’t do a background check on them before they moved in together anyway. And if her friends were murderers or anything dangerous, they wouldn’t want her living with them.
She wonders if it’s related to her work, but that’s her area of expertise. Amalia would know if anything illegal or morally corrupt was happening in her work, that’s a big part of her job. She has a moment of panic where she questions where she’s somehow doing something really wrong and helping crime, but after a few breaths she convinces herself that’s not the logical conclusion. No need to spiral into anxiety.
She needs to know the truth. That is why instead of driving home on a Wednesday night after a full workday, Amalia makes her way to the bunker. Although her default mode is to overthink all of her actions, her need to know everything speaks louder so Amalia lets her curiosity guide her for once. Besides, it’s not like she’s doing anything wrong by coming to the bunker, no one ever told her to stay away.
As if to confirm her thoughts, the doors open to her, recognizing her DNA without any problem. If her family didn’t want her there, she’d be blocked. Or at least there’d be an alarm going on so everyone would know she was there. None of that happens. In fact, no one notices her entering at all, all of them too busy discussing something near the computers, no one facing the entrance.
Her original plan was to arrive before anyone else so she could snoop in the computers to see if she’d find anything, but, surprising not even herself, work took too long for that. And now, after 8pm, not only the entire team is there but her parents as well. She’s lucky she knew about Dad suiting up again before coming or else her shock might have given her away. Mom being there isn’t so weird, she still comes every so often to “help” William, especially since she started spending less hours on QC and is bored out of her mind at home without anyone around.
Making the best out of her situation, Amalia gets close enough to hear what they are saying, making sure she can’t be seen. Libbi, the newest member of the team, is spinning on Mom’s chair, much to everyone’s annoyance, especially Will’s who is sitting next to her, showing them something on the computer. Becky Merlyn and JJ Diggle are the ones closest to Will, both paying a lot of attention to what is going on and ready to hit the streets at any time. Zoe Ramirez, Rene’s daughter and currently the oldest of the team, is a little farther away, keeping an eye at her cousin Elliot, who has decided, on his own accord, he was Team Arrow’s newest intern, much to Aunt Thea’s despair considering he’s still seventeen.  Mom and Dad are on the other side, looking worried.
“We should just go there if we know all of that,” Libbi says, still spinning. “What’s the worst that could happen?”
Variations of “Are you serious?”, “You’re gonna get yourself killed” and a kick on her chair all happen at the same time. Dad’s hand is all over his face and he’s probably considering how effective grounding his 20 years-old daughter would be.
“First of all, that’s bullying, respect my opinions,” Libbi continues, not shaken at all by everyone else’s disapproval. “Second of all, I wasn’t suggesting going without a plan.”
“Thank God,” Mom comments, making Libbi roll her eyes, “We are waiting for Sara to finish the plan, Libbi, you know that.”
“But why can’t we start without her? We have all the information we need.”
“I agree we should just start planning, Aunt Sara is not really a part of the team anymore,” Becky chimes in.
“Like she’s going to listen to us if she doesn’t agree. Let’s be real, guys, we are helping the League in that, not the other way around,” JJ declares.
“But we did all the research!” Elliot blurts, making all the heads turn to him for the first time. “I know I’m not in the team yet, but this doesn’t sound fair.”
“Because it isn’t!” Libbi uttered, “If this was anyone else, we wouldn’t be waiting so long.”
“It’s not anyone else, so stop complaining,” Zoe decided to assert her place as the team’s non-official leader. “We already told Sara we were waiting for her. This is not any mission, this is family.”
“Zoe is right. We don’t have time for disagreements right now. Sara already has a plan, after she’s finished the perimeter study, she’ll let us know how we can help. We’re here to help her, it’s her daughters we’re talking about.”
Amalia freezes at that. When Zoe had mentioned family, she thought they were just considering Sara part of the family in the broadest definition. She didn’t think they meant Sara’s family. Is Naila in trouble? All of Amalia’s body wants to go forward and question her parents about that. Suddenly, it makes sense why they are avoiding the subject with her. They don’t want her to know. Maybe they want to protect her feelings or they just don’t trust her with this after everything that happened. A lot of theories start popping in her mind, but before she can do anything impulsive like revealing she’s there, she’s retreating to the door.
She needs to think.
She needs to breathe.
Even though her car is fully automated, Amalia focuses on the road instead of thinking of what she just heard. Emma and Ilana are in the living room, watching something together on TV. Amalia only nods at them, heading straight to her room before any of them can start a conversation. She thinks she hears a “rude!” coming from Emma but doesn’t bother to check. Her roommates will get over her lack of manners.
Closed off in her room, she throws herself on her bed and counts to herself ten deep breaths. She tries counting the facts she knows in her head and immediately regrets running away. She doesn’t know anything besides it involves Sara and the League of Assassins. She doesn’t even know if it had anything to do with Naila at all, she shouldn’t have jumped to conclusions. Maybe she can come back to the bunker and get Mom and Will by themselves while everyone else is in the field. It’s far from ideal, but it’d definitely catch them off-guard. She’s sure any of them would tell the truth if she just confronted them, but part of her is not sure she wants to know the answer. Does she even want to get involved with Team Arrow? Maybe it’s just normal business and she’s getting it all wrong from hearing just bits of the conversation. It has nothing to do with her. But now her curiosity is winning and she’s not sure she can cope with just not knowing.
Before she can think of a plan, there’s a knock on her window. The window which is most definitely on the fifth floor of a building. It says something about the kind of people she hangs around that her first thought is who would be climbing her window and not how anyone would do that. Without opening it, she reaches the window and sees a person in dark clothes, looking the other side, not worried about standing in a wall. Her brain recognizes the League’s clothing, but it’s her heart that opened the window without a thought first. All those years of safety training and she opens the window for the first assassin she sees, a part of her mind notes, but curiosity spoke louder.
The person enters and Amalia doesn’t have to wait for her to take away her hood to recognize her. It might have been over five years since they last saw each other, but she recognizes Naila anywhere.
“Amalia,” Naila whispers, approaching her, her face serious, “I need your help.”
 June 2032.
It’s a sunny day in the middle of June when Amalia goes to her first funeral. She’s almost eleven years-old, which means she feels almost grown up most of the time, but standing in the Merlyn’s living room, surrounded by people wearing black, Amalia never felt so much like a little child. All she wants is to go to Mom and hide herself in her. But Mom told her to find Will and is on the other side of the room now, next to Dad, talking to Aunt Laurel. They all have sad faces and Amalia doesn’t need that explained to her.
Quentin Lance is dead. She had never seen a dead person before and now his face won’t leave her alone. She’s seen people in hospitals, has seen her father unconscious in a hospital bed and she thought looking at a dead person couldn’t possibly feel worse than that. She was wrong. Deadness is very physical and she wished she had accepted to stay behind with Will and Libbi like Dad had suggested.
Her grandma Moira died when she was little, but Amalia doesn’t remember that. She doesn’t know if her parents received people in their house, like Uncle Tommy and Aunt Laurel are doing right now. She wonders if her dad looked as sad as Aunt Laurel looks right now.
“If you want to know, it’s those damn vigilante’s fault,” Amalia hears an old man she has never seen talking. “I told Lance a million times to not get involved with them, that they were trouble, and look what happened! I don’t mind if they end up killing themselves, but getting one of ours killed?” He seems angry and a couple people around seem to agree with him, while others told him to be quieter, they wouldn’t want Lance’s daughters hearing about that.
Amalia freezes where she is. She doesn’t think about what if it was her dad’s funeral instead of Aunt Laurel’s dad. She doesn’t think about how vigilantes dying means her entire family dying.
She can’t think of any of that. She might be almost a grown up, but the almost here is vital.
Today, she’s ten years-old and she doesn’t want to think about her parents being in danger. So she starts walking, searching for her siblings. Libbi was too little to go to the funeral, so Will was taking care of her and would meet them here.
Amalia thought she was big enough to handle it, that she should go to the funeral like the adults were, but maybe she was wrong. She doesn’t even want to be in this room now, with people that say vigilantes should be dead.
Not seeing her brother anywhere, Amalia’s heart starts beating faster. It’s ridiculous, she tells herself, she is in no danger. She knows exactly where her parents are and there are at least a dozen of other adults she knows here. But something wants to go out of her chest and she doesn’t want it.
Almost as instinct, she goes to Becky’s room. Rebecca Merlyn is only three years older than her and she has spent many nights playing with her here. She hopes the room is empty, having seem Becky and her brother Ben both on the living room, receiving condolences for their grandfather’s death. Normally, she would have gone to talk to them, they were family friends, Ben is a funny boy and Becky used to be her friend before she became a teen, they could make her feel better. But they had just lost their grandpa and Amalia wasn’t sure if she knew what to say. She only remembers her grandma Donna and can’t imagine what would be like to lose her. She’d rather hide herself until someone else found her.
As she opens the room, Amalia finds it’s not empty at all. But it’s not Becky there, but another girl around her own age.
“Who are you?” The girls asks and Amalia recognizes her defensive posture, ready to fight. She almost does the same, but decides it’s only going to look more threatening.
“Who are you? I’ve never seen you before. I was looking for Becky,” she adds the lie, thinking it explains her better. The girl continues to stare at her suspiciously, like she doesn’t understand. “Rebecca. This is her room,” Amalia clarifies and the girl seems to relax.
“Oh, right. I’m her… cousin,” she suffices, speaking in an accent Amalia has never heard, and Amalia frowns because she has never heard about any cousin before.
The girl doesn’t look at all like Becky or Ben. Her skin is darker, her eyes are bigger and brown. She tries to remember Becky’s aunts Sara and Nyssa and thinks that maybe the girl looked a little like Nyssa, though not much. She isn’t sure because it has been too long since she had seen them. And they didn’t have a child back then. But she knows Uncle Tommy only sister is Aunt Thea, and this girl is not her cousin.
“Are you Sara’s?” Amalia decides to ask. The girl just nods. “I don’t remember meeting you.”
“It’s my first time here,” she says, her voice so quiet it’s difficult to hear, “Rebecca is outside. But I can leave you here alone if you want,” the girl says suddenly, and Amalia has to remember she said she was looking for Becky so she understands.
“It’s okay,” Amalia answers, blushing with her lie and wonders if she should leave, “Can I just stay here for a while? Too much people out there.”
“Okay,” she says.
“I’m Amalia, by the way. Amalia Queen. My parents are friends with yours.”
“I’m Naila,” she answers, not looking Amalia in the eyes.
“Was your grandpa Quentin? I’m sorry for your loss,” Amalia adds, realizing that Sara was also Quentin’s daughter.
“I guess,” Naila answers, confusing Amalia so much that she decides to just stay quiet. “I’ve only met him once. But he was Sara’s father.”
Amalia doesn’t ask why she’s calling her mom by her name, even though the question burns in her tongue. She wonders if she’s not really Sara’s daughter. Amalia knows people can be dangerous, and they can lie about who they are. But Naila doesn’t look dangerous, she just looks lost.
They both sit in silence next to each other without saying anything else, until someone else opens the room. It’s a teen girl who looks a little like Naila, so Amalia assumes it’s her sister. She has thick eyebrows that make her look angry and she stares at Amalia without a hint of kindness, some mix of judgement and threat.
“Naila,” it’s all she says, turning to her sister, nodding at the younger girl to approach.
Naila goes up immediately, not looking back at Amalia until she’s almost at the door. She hesitates and then gives her a little wave, so shy that Amalia would miss it if she wasn’t staring at the girl. At that, she leaves, not saying goodbye.
As weird as that encounter was, it makes Amalia’s mood change a little. She’s no longer thinking of death and Lance’s face, instead she wants to find Becky and ask about her weird cousins. Deciding that staying by herself in a room isn’t fun after all, Amalia leaves as well.
Outside, she finds both her siblings chatting with the Diggle kids and joins the conversation. It’s still a funeral and even Libbi is quieter than normal, but Amalia takes a breath, focuses on her family and friends and, if for at least a few minutes, she allows herself to forget where she is.

Greetings from France, where it is currently 17c and cloudy but I am reliably informed that no rain will fall today, which is just as well as I have been out early to water the tomatoes, hydrangeas, begonias, wild flowers not forgetting the fig, all of which have suffered terribly with the high temperatures we have had of late. A week ago I would have dug the begonias up and disposed of them they appeared to be well and truly scorched, yesterday. I noticed little green shoots and tiny yellow flowers on one of the plants so I will tend to them for a while longer. The saga that is my “mal au dos” seems to be improving, I am not waking up as much through the night and have found that I can roll from my left side onto my back however I am too scared to get onto my right side as I still have pain there. Getting out of bed is easier too I no longer fear passing out from the pain! I arranged an appointment with the osteopath for this coming Tuesday and I need him to write down exactly what the problem was (I do not want this again). It is coming to the end of the French holiday period and I am hoping against hope that I will hear from the decorator and the paysagiste, one saying when he can come and do the work and the other providing a devis for work to be done. I know that the paysagiste is working as he passed me when I was having coffee at the bar the other day. When I was in town I popped up to see if Monica the Immobilier was at work, she was on her holiday and wont be back to work until Monday, not that I was looking at properties more just to have a chat. My neighbours returned from holiday last Monday and brought me a wonderful gift from Iles d’Oleron, a basket of goodies including two types of salt, caramels, biscuits and mustard with samphire (delicious), just for keeping an eye on their property. I did explain that I had been a bit unnerved when I saw that his garage door didn’t appear fully closed, he explained that the door must be twisted slightly and he bolts it inside and locks it outside. With Marie-Therese in Saint-Flour and Anie having recently lost her brother, I have had no opportunity for coffee, cake and a natter. Monique did ring me but I did not go to the French class on Wednesday afternoon. I did take a “knitting with refugees” group which was made up of children, two of whom could neither knit or crochet and with my back still being quite “delicate” I found it very hard to spend a lot of time with them. Not long now until they return to school and maybe I will have my “ladies” back again. My mobile phones are quite old (given to me by “The Daddy”) and one was not holding it’s charge, I went into town and managed to get a new battery put into it so it should live for a while longer. The other one had definitely given up the ghost the front and back were parting company, never a good look, so I had to bite the bullet and BUY a new one. Just as well it was easy to set up as I had to do it myself! I had an email and a telephone call from a friend of a friend, the lady is looking to relocate to France and wanted to have a couple of questions answered. It was lovely to chat to her and I must remember to drop her an email today as I have just thought of something which may be useful for her when considering properties. Now I said that the plumber had been to put a new tap in the garage last week, well I had not been out to try it until this week……….went to the tap, tried to turn it on…….wouldn’t turn! After a few expletives I left it, through the night I wondered if the lever turned in the opposite direction so next morning off I went into the garage to try that……...still no luck! I texted the plumber, he arrived early evening and guess what it did turn the opposite way (as I had tried that morning) and to cap it all the top of the lever had arrows stating ON and OFF (in English) what a flipping numpty I felt, he just laughed. I have been to the bar a few times this week, I still enjoy sitting watching the world go by, I saw one of the families that attend French class going for their shopping, then another day I saw one of my friends from my knitting and sewing group. I arrived one day, and a regular at the bar, handed me the newspaper before I had even taken a seat….. now that’s what I call service! Today in town there is the Bar aux Livres my two author friends will be there selling their books. I purchased some books from them previously, two for my gorgeous granddaughter when she comes over and I also bought a novel for me to read, not as easy as one might expect. I also have a book (written by another friend) which is really a children’s book and the other night I decided to try and start to read it…...again it’s the tenses, new vocabulary etc which make it hard going. I think I will have to revert to the children’s book (like a Ladybird book) about the circus in the hedge. I wonder if the French have the equivalent of the Janet and John books that children (like me) used when first learning to read? They were really good, repetition, spelling out the letters to make the sound D O G, blimey where am I going with this? I also received some sad news, a bereavement, an Aunt through marriage, someone’s mother, grandmother, a great aunt to my son’s and a very kind and gentle lady. So “The Daddy” sent me a photo of gorgeous granddaughter yesterday sitting in the doll’s pushchair (again) apparently she got stuck and he had to pull her out……...lesson there, methinks, young Miss. She seems to have progressed from sitting on the doll’s cot to sitting in the washing basket (its her boat) and we sing Row, Row, Row Your Boat, what a hoot that girl is. “The Graduate” is on the steep descent to the end of his course……..an exam this coming week…….finishing off the dreaded dissertation. He has found out that the University library is open again so I think he is going to be heading there to finish his work in surroundings which are more conducive to this final part of his studies. The job situation seems to be quite a problem in the United Kingdom and elsewhere in the World, who knows what “The Graduate” will do following these four years of study, we can only hope and pray that a job is out there for him. Students will be returning to Universities from September looking to complete their final year or even just embarking on their first year, this year has been exceptionally stressful for everyone. What will be the “new norm” who knows? At the end of the day it is about YOU! Keeping yourself safe, follow the guidelines: Wash your hands, wear a mask, keep your distance, avoid crowds, if we all do our bit then hopefully we can fight this dreadful virus. Well, time to get ready to go into town for the Bar aux Livres. Until the next time……………. Photos: For the beauty of the Earth.

Installing Java 8
Go to the Oracle website. You'll see something like this:
Scroll down until you see a heading beginning 'Java SE 8u65/8u66.' On the right, you'll see a Download button under the JDK header. Click it. The next screen will look like this:
Click the radio button next to 'Accept License Agreement' and then click on jdk-8u65-macosx-x64.dmg. You'll be asked whether to save the file that is going to be downloaded; click on Save File.
Open your Downloads folder, and double-click on jdk-8u65-macosx-x64.dmg. You'll see this window:
Double-click on the package icon, and follow the instructions to install. When the installation has completed, click on Done. At this point, you may close up the window and drag jdk-8u65-macosx-x64.dmg to the Trash.
Installing Eclipse
If you already have Eclipse installed on your Mac, you need to get rid of it. To do so, first quit Eclipse if you're currently running it. Then, go to your workspace folder (probably in Documents/workspace) and save anything there that you want to keep, because you're about to get rid of this folder. Next, drag the workspace folder to the Trash.
Go to your Applications folder. One way to get there is, from the Finder, type command-shift-A. You'll a folder named eclipse in there; drag the eclipse folder to the Trash. If you have an Eclipse icon in your dock, remove it from the dock.
Now you're ready to download and install the newest version of Eclipse. Go to this website. You'll see a window like this:
Scroll down until you see 'Eclipse IDE for Java Developers' and click where it says 64 bit under Mac OS X.
You will see this window: Download vray sketchup 8.
Click on the yellow download button. If asked, click on 'Open with Archive Utility (default)' and then click OK. The download might take a few minutes. You should not feel compelled to donate.
After the download completes, folders should automatically expand. If they don't, double-click on the .tar file. When that's done, you should see a folder named eclipse in your Downloads folder. When you open your Downloads folder, if you see Applications under the Favorites on the left side of the window, you should drag the eclipse folder into Applications. If you don't see Applications, then open a new window for Applications (from the Finder, command-shift-A), and drag the eclipse folder into Applications.
Open your Applications folder, and then open the eclipse folder. You'll see an item named Eclipse; if you like, drag its icon into the dock so that you'll be able to launch Eclipse easily.
Launch Eclipse. If you're asked whether you want to open it, of course you do; click Open. You'll see a window like this:
It will have your user name rather than mine (scot). Select where you want your workspace to be; I recommend the default of your Documents folder. Click the checkbox for using this location as the default, and then click OK. Apple migrate to mac download.
You'll see a window like this:
Click on the Workbench arrow in the upper right that I've circled. You shouldn't see this screen again, even if you quit Eclipse and relaunch it.

Click the button that says 'New..'. You'll see a window such as this one:
You can type in any profile name you like. I used 'CS 10':
Click OK.
You should see a window like this:
Change the tab size to 2:
You'll see that the indentation size automatically changes as well.

Click on 'Control Statements,' and check the first four boxes as I've done here:
Click OK.
Now click on triangles to close up Java. Click on the triangle next to Run/Debug, and then click on Console:
Click on the green color sample next to 'Standard In text color.' You'll get a color picker:
Slide the slider on the right down, so that you get a dark green. (You're at Dartmouth. What other color could you possibly want?)
Close the color picker window by clicking its close button, and click OK again to close the Preferences window.
And you're done!

Hidden Majesty (5) - Final
Pairing: JEON JUNGKOOK X READER (Prince!JJK AU)
Genre: FLUFF
Warnings: Language, death threats, mentions of murder
Words: 9,305 (WHEW)
Tumblr media
   Part 4
Suggested Song: Champion (Remix) - Fall Out Boy ft. RM
JungKook breathed out anxiously as they reached the first destination signed in the map. This is where Y/N spent almost a year hiding. He thought, debating if they should stop on the simple shack. I don’t want to waste more time.
- What are you waiting for, your Majesty? We have to lay low here for the night, the ride is short tomorrow but the horses still need their rest. - Yoona spoke, jumping out of her horse - a beautiful brown horse, with simple braided mane and a gold medal with the Jeon crest on the very tip of the braid, since it was a gift given by his father - and guiding him towards the back of the house, where JugnKook found to exist a pole where surely his friends tied up their horses. Since I take they’re together with Y/N right about now. Yoona had explained him the very surface of the issue, since Yoongi had only left her a letter - he felt a little hurt to not be informed but he’d ask for the reasons later - that said he and the rest of the knights were leaving on a hurry towards a secret place  with Y/N, and she had to drag the prince as soon as possible to the location he’d indicate later on.
- But shouldn’t we just keep going? You said Yoongi wanted us to rush. - he inquired, and Yoona nodded, while checking the inside of the single room shack.
- He did, but I’m not risking my neck on some unknown woods where maybe there aren’t wolves, but could have bears, since even your kingdom’s crest have them. - she started, as JungKook followed her inside, watching her check the cupboards for pots and any spare food. - Besides, if we’re still on this kingdom tomorrow morning, the Queen will be more at ease. Remember she has her guards on the loose, and could send them to search for us if the King stops paying attention. - she reasoned, and JungKook nod once, grabbing an apple as Yoona threw it for him.
He walked around, covering the whole shack in less than ten steps, and wondered how could Y/N live on a place like that. I know she was simple, but even her room on the maiden tower was bigger than this. He thought, sitting on the straw bed, biting on the fruit.
- I know the whole place looks awful, but it could be worse. And the guys were taking care of her. - Yoona voiced his concerns, and he snickered. He did felt better that they went out of their ways to protect her, but JungKook also felt bad for being so powerless to be unable to even keep the woman he loved close to him.
- Yeah, I really appreciate that. But I feel like a whole circus is happening and I’m always the last to know about things... I just want to meet her again. - he sighed, throwing himself back on the mattress, automatically smelling the characteristic odor of cinnamon and vanilla only Y/N had. And here I thought it was just because of the baking... He thought, a pang on his chest as he clutched the thin white sheet.
- She’s closer than ever now. But that’s why we need to be more careful. - Yoona started, and as she sat on the bed beside him, they heard a rustle coming from under her, something just like a paper being kneaded. She got up, lifting the sheet and scoffed, picking up the square of paper probably Yoongi left there. JungKook jumped up, eyes widening as he noticed the other tip Yoongi left them.
- What does it say? - he asked, almost snatching the paper from Yoona’s hands. She walked to the window, where the moonlight was already shining through - they didn’t lighted any candles up to keep a low profile - and frowned as she read.
- My brother really has to learn how to write properly. It says something along the lines of “in the midday sun look for the wolves, and they will guide you to the castle”. What does he mean? - Yoona whispered to herself, passing the note to JungKook, which also frowned at the hurried writing.
- Weren’t the wolves just a legend? I mean Isn’t this just something people made up because they couldn’t go past the Dark Woods? - he asked, and Yoona shruggered.
- I mean, maybe... Like I said your kingdom is reported to have bears, what stops these rumors to really being true? Maybe people really couldn’t go near that place because there were really wolves on the woods. - Yoona proposed. Still, JungKook had so many questions.
If there are really wolves there - and as feral as people used to say they were - how did Yoongi and the rest went through? How will we reach them? And what about “the wolves will guide you” thing? Is it a metaphor?
- My Queen, are you feeling alright? Do you need something? - Mia, a maiden from the castle - designed to be Y/N’s chaperone - asked as she winced in pain, something like a small contraction bothering her for the third time on that day. She turned, snickering. Surely she being called Queen wasn’t a thing she would be used to quickly.
- Ah no Mia I’m fine. And please, call me Y/N. “Your Majesty” and “My Queen” feels so impersonal, and hours ago I was someone just like you... - she trailed off, turning from her seat to look at the girl. She was younger than her, tall and thin, had short hair and fair skin, and always wore a smile, even when she showed concern for her. Really, a sweet girl.
- Ah I can’t do that, Majesty. See, I don’t mean to offend you at all but - she started, looking down, then holding Y/N’s hands. - You’ve always have been our Queen. You’ve always been Queen Gabrielle’s child, may your mother rest in peace, because her blood runs in your veins, don’t forget that, my Queen. So you’ve never been really a commoner, but just disguised as one. - she said, and Y/N automatically took a step back, a bit shocked by the reality Mia presented to her. It was blunt, but it was the truth, if Y/N thought about it. I was never really me, was I? Even if I didn’t knew that, there was this hope - from aunty Hani to all those people here. And I can’t let them down now. They are my saviors, and I need them even more than they need me.
- In my humble opinion, Ithink it was a good thing that she grew up with us commoners. - Taehyung entered the common room, bow and arrows hung on his shoulders. - It gives our Queen the perspective to understand her people better. - he stated, and Y/N felt an itch on her chest as he referred to her as his Queen too. To be honest the others have been doing that too, like a rebellious act about Quen Fae. But for Tae, I think he really means it.
- Oh Sir Kim, I didn’t heard you come in. - Mia said, bowing respectfully at him. Too respectfully, to be honest. Oh something is going on in here... Y/N realized, as she smiled to the knight, which was pretty famous for having a blank, expressionless face. But I don’t think he’d hide something from me. She thought. Taehyung had being since day one in hiding, her most loyal friend and reliable ally. Didn’t meant the others didn’t helped, but Tae in fact was very present on her life, Y/N could even chance say almost daily. He hunted for me, bought things and helped me when I felt sick, due to pregnancy. He had been such a good friend.
- Good thing I’m still swift then huh? How have you been, Mia? - he asked, and by the way she blushed while still looking down, Y/N understood she had been one of those girls Yoongi mentioned previously.
- I’ve been alright, thank you sir. - she lifted her head ever so slightly to glance at him, and he smiled, patting her head affectionately afterwards, which made Mia blush even more.
- Good. - his voice was warm too, and it made Y/N snicker to herself. - The whole fourteen knights are on the meeting room, and they asked me to walk you there. - he turned to Y/N, which nodded. Since the wolves had recognized her as Queen they all had been very quiet, talking among themseves, and Y/N wondered if it was about the battle she felt on her bones it would come. Even if JungKook reaches here before the Queen’s army... I don’t think she’ll let all of this slip so easily without a fight.
The meeting room was a majestic space, even if not as big as the next kingdom’s, but still amazing to say the least. And it’s my own meeting room, so I’m not complaining. Y/N thought, as she looked around, the paintings of the previous leaders with a wolf by the side and a rose on their hands.
- Ah, the Queen is here. Please take your seat, Majesty. - one of the Golden Wolves said, and Y/N turned away from the picture of her mother - a woman much like her, with green sparkly eyes, mouth curled up on a soft smile and a long hair braided with gold threads, posing just like the other Kings and Queens before her - to look at the one she recognized as the first who ever talked to her, when the wolves “ceremony” took place.
- Thank you, Tae. - Y/N patted her friend’s hand as he helped her sit on the head of the table, her huge size proving to be difficult to handle. Sheepishly smiling, she turned to the one who greeted her earlier. - Very well, what is going on? You all have been awfully quiet, but this sudden call made me nervous. What’s the situation? - she inquired, looking to her left and right, where the knights had divided themselves. On the far left corner, a man cleared his throat.
- You see, my Queen - it was a white haired man who spoke, and his soft tone surprised Y/N at first - We were talking with your friends from Jeon kingdom, which explained to us the resume of your story. The part we’re worried of is what will happen after the arrival of the prince of Jeon, which is as they said, the father of your child. - he started, getting up to speak closer to Y/N, which nodded carefully. She didn’t expected him to be such a big man - the armor from before made them all look very big and muscular, but just the one which Y/N deducted was the leader looked buffed so far - and got a little intimidated by the way his arms strained against the fabric of the brown cotton shirt he wore.
- Well I was thinking about that, too... What is your name, knight? I think you all never told me your names. - she asked, and the one talking seemed to hesitate, like he had only realized that fact.
- Oh I’m sorry my Queen. I’m Shin Hoseok, but everyone calls me Wonho. - he explained, and Y/N smiled at the man, then turned to the rest, waiting for them to introduce themselves. Taking the hint, they all scrambled to their feet, and told her their names, to which Y/N responded with a “nice to meet you” for all of them. So, the oldest is Son Hyungwoo - or Shownu,a s the others said his nickname was -, followed by this kingdom’s Shin Hoseok, then the very loud one Lee Minhyuk. After comes Yoo Kihyun which is apparently very sweet, and Chae Hyungwon follows - he’s very handsome too -, theres this dimpled one just like Namjoon, Lee Jooheon... And the youngest, Lim Changkyun, which looks very taciturn. Y/N nodded at each one of them while hearing their names.
- I take that you guys are already acquitanced with the Battle Troop Soldiers, so we’ll just... Get this going. - Y/N said, feeling a little awkward suddenly. It felt too real to be Queen for five hours and already be doing a tactic meeting, which she felt that was.
- Yes. About the arrival of Prince JungKook, I gave him instructions to reach this place, and he’s together with my sister, currently his wife. It’s a complicated situation, but I think we can solve this without much quarrel. - Yoongi explained, and Y/N bit her lip. I shouldn’t b feeling jealous all of a sudden, Yoongi explained to me that his sister has no interest on JungKook whatsoever but still... He’s married to her.
- That’s were we disagree, unfortunately. See, we’ve been deceived in this kingdom before by Queen Fae, and our present queen here is live proof of that. - Kihyun interjected, throwing a tight smile to the spy. - Strategically speaking, the army of Fae is already on the move, and even if the King of Jeon himself guarantee there won’t be any attacks, there’s no way to be sure she will abide to his order, since she recently seemed to be a little disobedient. So I don’t want to take chances on this matter, I hope you understand me, Majesty. - he stated, and Y/N nodded quietly. She turned to Hoseok, the one responsible for the strategy on his team, which hummed, also nodding, a little frown gracing his face.
- Understandable. It has been really odd of the Queen to act like such but since we are on terms with what is happening, I understand you concerns. - Hoseok started, fingers brushing on his lips, a mischievious glint on his eye. - And we also have to think about politics for a bit, right Namjoon? - he turned to look at the super smart knight, that nodded too, turning to look at the respective leader on the other group.
- Yes, taking that Y/N’s child is  the heir to this kingdom and fourth in line for the throne on Jeon. So if everything goes smoothly, the alliance between the kingdoms are certain. - Namjoon spoke, and thought Y/N’s head was spinning, she tried to organize her thoughts.
- Right, so this is the picture where Fae just sits and waits for us to break a marriage and do another, forming an union with a kingdom she despises. Which to be honest I really wanted to believe, but deep in my guts I know won’t happen. So I want to know what are the options, what can be done if something like an attack blows in front of the kingdom. - she asked, and Jooheon leaned forward, hand signaling he was about to speak, and Y/N tilted her head at him.
- We don’t have a great army, but we have two things that had kept us safe all this time in Tantalas, which are location and the wolves. - he said, and the girl frowned at his words. Yes, the wolves had been protecting this land and all, but can we expect them to fight against the Jeon army? Together with the rest of the soldiers?
Meanwhile he waited Y/N process what he had just said, Kihyun and Minhyuk got up, picking a roll from a shelf nearby and opening it on the table.
- What Jooheon means is that we have here two strong borders on the kingdom, which are the mountain chains. and just in front of us there’s the Dark Woods, where we have the packs of wolves that had been protecting our space for as long as we know. - Minhyuk pointed out, indicating the places he mentioned. Y/N tried to lean and look, but her condition made it a little hard to bend.
- I guess it would be better if you bring that map over, Sir Lee. Our Queen is a little... Handicaped, to put it one way. - Jimin proposed, making the lot laugh, as well as Y/N, that blushed at the way he referred at it.
- True, we should also ask for some snacks and water, this will be tiresome for our Majesty. - Taehyung agreed, searching around with his eyes for someone to attend them.
- Don’t worry, I’ll be fine. Had a great dinner, ate for two, so won’t be needing any food for now, guys. Besides, I’m nervous about this whole thing, so you all have to explain exactly what are we going to do. - Y/N said, and the knights chuckled at her remark, abiding to her request, and resuming to explain the strategy.
It was the moment to join forces, and most of all, protect the cherished ones. The people want to protect their land and families, the knights, the people - and myself . And I will do anything on my power to protect my beloved baby.
The sun was high in the sky when Yoona and JungKook started moving towards what the prince hoped to be their final destination. I need to reach Y/N as soon as possible. He thought, feeling inside of his gut that something really bad wwas about to happen.
- Hey I know you’re upset for what I said but... Try to look less like we’re in a hurry to get somewhere. The news on the country is that we’re on a lovely travel around the land, so we won’t be bothered much... Unless we blow our cover. And by we, I mean you. - Yoona deadpanned, even if she tried to sound sweet and understanding. JungKook scoffed, acutely aware at how similar she was with Yoongi, even on that sense.
- I’m sorry little princess, but I’m almost acting on pure instinct right here. Is not everyday that you hear your own mother is trying to murder the woman you love because of some silly love quarrel that happened twenty and such years ago. - he sassed, and Yoona shrugged.
- I know, that story those elders told me about the death on Queen Gabrielle was pretty much brutal. But again, you have to control yourself. Even I am looking forward to this, since it will mean that I’ll be free and you will stop calling me by that stupid nickname. - she quipped back, causing the prince to chuckle softly. Yoona had woken up extremely early, and went to the nearest village to bring some water, when she said she met a couple of elders, which were trading fruits for meat. Within five minutes of conversation Yoona said that they started talking about a story which should be told correctly to the people, and mentioned the Queen, telling her about the fight she had with Tantalas’ Queen for King William, and how that resulted on the death of the Queen of the forementioned kingdom.
They kept riding in silence for a while, noticing how the vegetation started to look taller, untouched by the hand of the humans more and more as they progressed. Yoona noticed how immersed in his own thoughts the prince was, and decided to not bother him. JungKook appreciated that, because there was so much noise on his head it buzzed incessantly, trying to decide what he had to do first once he got to Tantalas.
I mean, after I meet with Y/N, that is. Since the troops of my mother are coming in a fast pace, I have to get a plan quickly, and I wonder if that kingdom has any defensive measures, because I take that the only thing that kept people away from them are the wolves apparently. There’s the issue of the knights too, since they are helping a decreed fugitive... They can be accused of treason, so I have to keep them safe. I’ll have to deal with the wrath of my father, I’m sure he’ll be really pissed about this whole problem. But the main problem is my mother. If she doesn’t retreat her army, there is going to be a battle, and will be difficult to arrange terms later on, independently on which one of the parts wins. He breathed out heavily, looking ahead to the forest already in sight.
- Look over there JungKook, you see it? - Yoona whispered by his side, and he turned to look at where the girl was pointing. His breath hitched on his throat.
Ahead of them, just where the trees were tall and indicated the beginning of the Dark Woods, was sitting a big gray wolf. As soon as JungKook looked eyes with the golden ones of the animal, he felt a chill run through his spine. As on cue, the wolf threw his head up, howling loudly, like a siren.
- Holy shit, theres a lot more of those. - Yoona stressed, looking beyond the first wolf, and JungKook nodded, mouth gaped. The wolves will guide you to the castle.
- Oh, you hear that? The wolves are howling. - Changkyung said, his voice low as he smiled at Y/N, while she finished her meal. The knights were taking turns while taking care of Y/N, while they resolved the last details on their defense plan. Y/N perked up and looked at him, as again a long howl cut through the air.
- What does this mean? Is that Queen Fae? - she asked, and the swordman shook his head no.
- They won’t make a sound when her troops approach. Sir Min said your prince and his sister would be arriving a little past midday, and I guess that is about time, my Queen. - he said, and Y/N’s breath hitched on her throat. JungKook is here! She realized, heart beating hard as she got up quickly, and almost tripping on her long dress, wasn’t for Chankyung’s fast reflexes. At the same time, Taehyung entered the kitchen - where Y/N said she preferred to eat, still not used to that big empty table on the dining room -, completely disheveled, followed close behind by the other knights.
- What is that, are we under attack already? - he asked. Changkyung shook his head again, after steading Y/N on her feet, and threw a dirty look at his battle companions.
- No, this is just the warning that the prince of Jeon is arriving. We the Golden Wolves must have been aware of that, right team? - he sassed, and Y/N would have chuckled at the scene of the youngest scolding his elders, but the sole prostect of seeing JungKook again made her completely alien to the rest.
- Ah let’s go then, the Queen must be anxious to meet him. - Jimin quipped, a light smile on his face. Taehyung sighed relieved, nodding as he grabbed Y/N’s hand - shocking the Tantala’s knights meanwhile, not really used with that kind of skinship - and guided her quickly to the main entrance, to wait for JungKook’s arrival, followed by the rest.
The wolves kept howling one by one, each of them closer to the end of the woods, and Y/N was completely amazed by the scenario, because as she arrived at the big doors of the castle, there were soldiers lined up in front of the garden, dark gray shining armors on, about seven hundred to a thousand men, which Y/N realized was her own army.
She heard what Changkyung told her it was the last howl - there were twenty selected wolves leading their way to Tantalas - and breathed out, suddenly nervous, and unsure on how to react. This is the first time he will see me after almost nine months, and I’m pregnant. How will he react? I mean I know he had intentions of marrying me, but... Y/N thought, and Taehyung noticed her sudden nervous state, squeezing her hand slightly.
- It’s going to be okay, my Queen. - he whispered, and she turned to smile faintly at him, squeezing his hand back. She’d be forever grateful for him, mainly because she knew that he had plans back then to take her and her baby as his family, if for some reason Y/N never got to see JungKook again. He really has a golden heart, and for that I’ll make sure he is as happy as I’m sure I will be.
- Here they come. - Jimin approached the both of them, placing his hand on her shoulder. The knights placed in front of her straightened up, as soon as Y/N’s eyes noticed the appearence of two horses, a brown and a black one, eyes watering.
By the other side of the garden gallopping as fast as it was allowed for them, came JungKook, heart almost beating out of his chest, followed by a smiling Yoona, relieved to see them safe on that place. The people at the castle’s surroundings were coming far behind, warned by the wolves howls, wanting to know what was about to happen.
It was like the time slowed down, when JungKook reached the front garden. He could see her, Y/N, smiling at him from behind what he understood were her knights, and barely registered the waves of his own team behind her, as he jumped out of his horse.
- Y/N! - he shouted, feeling out of breath for being so anxious, stopping at the front stairs and looking up at her. Slowly, her black-armored soldiers opened way for her to walk, and guided by Taehyung and Jimin, she slowly descended the stairs, bright smile on her face.
- Oh my lord that’s a big belly! - Yoona commented by his side, and  only then he noticed the very pregnant state Y/N found herself in, and for a second he was unable to breath.
- Hello, my prince! - she finally reached down the stairs, watching as he observed her with shocked eyes and chuckled. He had noticed her condition already, and to stress it, Y/N placed her hands over her tummy, showing the whole size of her belly. - Our baby and I missed you greatly. - she complemented, looking from herself to him, which still sported a statue-like stance.
- M-mine? Is it... Our child? But how? - he stammered softly, and Y/N couldn’t help but tear up while she chuckled, observing a small smile creep up the prince’s lips.
- Of course it is yours, you silly! And about how... Well I guess you know how this happened. - Y/N snickered, making JungKook blush intensily as he came out of his stupor with a wide smile. Yoona chuckled by his side. - And well, I failed to tell you that last night I was already on this condition, but I’ll explain that later. - she wiped a tear of  her eyes, sniffing.
- Yes, tell me everything later. There’s something I need to do first. - JungKook gravely whispered, and smoothly took a step forward, face suddenly serious. Taking her face between his hands, he looked straight into her eyes, finally convincing himself it wasn’t a dream. - I’m finally by your side again, my love. - and leaning, captured her lips in a long-due passionate kiss, as all the people around them cheered.
They were all sat on the Queen’s private room, JungKook catching up on all he had lost while he was away. He didn’t liked to hear that Taehyung was to propose to Y/N if the whole tale thing about Y/N didn’t confirmed itself, but brushed it off as soon as Y/N grabbed his hand and showed him how the baby moved inside of her.
- I’m amazed at how many times JungKook was close to crying in two hours. That ought to be a new record! - Hoseok joked, as the prince sniffed and swallowed the always-present lump on his throat while thought again that he was to be a father.
- Shut up, I’m happy. - he pushed his second in command playfully, smiling as he pulled Y/N against him for the millionth time. Y/N chuckled, leaning on his body happily. She too felt over the moon, pushing away for some moments the next issue in hand.
- Well and I hope we can make your happiness permanent then, but we still have some things to overcome, our Majesties. - Hyungwoon, the most quiet one so far, sassed, and Y/N was about to joke with him to not be so mean, but then she noticed how he wasn’t looking at her, rather than out of the window, a serious expression on his face. The others noticed too, getting up and going to look closer at it.
- Did the guard fired the pit? - Wonho asked to no one in special, but Shownu nodded beside him, nonetheless.
- My archers also lit up the lanterns. The threat must be on the limit of the woods. We should start moving already, didn’t expect them to get here so soon. - Shownu said, turning to Jooheon. - I need you to warn the rest of the troops, we’re going to assemble the barricades sooner than expected. - he commanded, and Y/N tensed beside JungKook, also impressed on how soon her persecuters came.
- We were hoping they would arrive closer to the night, but at least we were waiting for them already, so don’t worry, Majesty. - Kihyun turned to look at the woman with scared eyes, smiling softly at her.
- The prospect in my vision is better than I expected, to be honest. I didn’t thought Y/N would have a whole army to protect her. - JungKook commented, and Wonho, which was walking past them to help with the plan they had, stopped to look at him, with a soft grin towards JungKook.
- We had to keep the kingdom safe and sound for our Queen, so of course we had been prepared. - he said, looking at Y/N and for the surprise of both of them - and JungKook’s knights - he kneeled, grabbing Y/N’s hand, pressing a soft kiss on her knuckles. - As your knight, I’m here to fight and die for you, my Queen. - he stated, and Y/N chuckled, embarrassed by his actions, but still finding it endearing. JungKook on the other side had his eyes as big as plates, nostrils flared with anger, and mostly jealousy.
- Don’t really die, thought. I hope we can resolve this without having to fight. - Y/N said, looking up at JungKook, which threw daggers at the knight that stood.
- Yeah, mainly the part about the marriage. I need to have their marriage canceled, can’t live with the idea of having my baby sister married to this guy. No offense thought, Y/N. - Yoongi said, and she turned to look at the spy, shaking her head, telling him no offense were taken. Yoona, on the other side of the room, complained about the nickname, throwing a pillow at his brother.
- Ah, there’s that too. It will be pretty easy to null it if both of the parts agree, and if there’s no pregnancy. Otherwise, it gets a little more difficult. But I don’t think that’s the case, right? - Minhyuk said, and Yoongi squinted his eyes at JungKook.
- No, he knows I’d kill him if he ever touched my sister. - he threatened, and JungKook scoffed.
- Because I’m in love with Y/N, which is the main reason. And really Yoongi, she looks just like you, it would creep me out a whole deal. - he mocked, and was hit with another pillow from Yoona. Y/N giggled, looking at the girl, only then noticing how similar Yoongi and her were. Almost twins, wasn’t for the age difference. I wonder how old is she?
- Either way, it’s better if we get that annulment soon, to avoid any unnecessary comfrontations. - Hoseok interjected, sighing as he pointedly glanced at Wonho’s leaving figure. Y/N frowned, not really understanding what he meant.
They were ushered to a safe room by Changkyung, where the Jeon knights locked doors and covered windows, leaving just one uncovered so they could observe the  events outside.
- Everything’s going to be okay love, don’t worry too much about it. - JungKook tried to ease Y/N as she already shook, without even noticing. She looked up at him, smiling weakly.
- I hope so... Being a scaredy cat like that makes me thing I’m not suited to be a Queen at all, JungKook. - she confessed, and the prince just held her close, shaking his head.
- That’s not true. No one is born suited to be a King or a Queen. And you’ve been one for such a little while that no one expects you to know what you’re doing yet. - he comforted her, kissing the top of her head.
- Besides you have done a great job not freaking out. And not to mention you’re pregnant! I don’t know how you haven’t asked your troops to just shoot them all away. - Jimin tried to joke, to which Y/N actually chuckled.
Feeling reassured for a while, they started to chat, Yoongi by the window observing, since he wasn’t feeling so chatty anymore. Y/N mostly listened as the others talked, even laughing when they told a crude joke and teased Yoona - which Y/N noticed had a little of a preference towards Jimin and that he seemed to be the same -, which she took a liking even if the girl still stood as JungKook’s wife.
Outside, it didn’t looked like there was much tension. But the knights were impressed to hear from Yoongi that the troops walking towards them - using the river as a way inside, till the barricade near the castle - were actually Jeon’ officials, but no more than a thousand, and it looked like the king himself had came with his wife, but he wasn’t on sight yet.
- I should go talk to him then. He’ll listen to me, even if he’s angry. Mother thought... - JungKook trailed off thoughtfully, and Y/N sat straight, clutching her lover’s arm.
- No please don’t. I have a bad feeling about this, don’t go there, they... She will snatch you away from me again. - she pleaded with prickling eyes, making JungKook frown, taking Y/N’s face between his hands.
- My love, no one’s ever going to drive me away from you, not now or never. - he stated, pressing his lips against hers.
- Yes, the prince isn’t going outside in any way. We have the meeting room for that, my Queen. - Seokjin complemented. Y/N nodded quietly, getting up to look outside the window, where the front of the soldiers - and the knights - were, and to where the Jeon army walked, rather calmly, the car bringing the King heavily surrounded by guards. Where the knights, including JungKook, should have been.
- What’s happening, Yoongi? - Y/N asked, the spy beside her sighing while JungKook’s hands wrapped around her figure, already missing her warmth.
- The King will demand to talk to the ruler of this land. But, since you’re on this condition, we’ll have to send someone to speak on your behalf. Won’t be JungKook, but needs to be one of us. - he explained, and she nodded quietly.
- I’ll go then. I’m the second in command of the knights, and I have a voice with the King. - Hoseok proposed, but Yoongi shook his head no.
- We need to bring the King alone here. Something is kind of fishy, and I’m not sure what Queen Fae can do. We don’t want the soldiers invading this at their own will after all. - Yoongi continued, eyes still trained on the scenario in front of him. Y/N also observed with a fleeting heart as the knights of her kingdom put on their helmets, as soon as the front of the soldiers of Jeon got too close for comfort. The scene developed itself slowly, but in a way that was too fast still. The King walked down with his wife trailing behind him, going towards Shownu, probably thinking he was the King or something, due to his way of carrying himself.
- Then I’ll go. I’m good with persuasion, surely the King will listen to me. - Namjoon proposed, getting up from his seat. - I have everything I have to explain to him right here in my head, I know the laws, I’m sure that in no time we’ll be resolving this without much issues. - he said, and Y/N turned in time to see his soft dimpled smile, and nodded at him.
- Hm, that might be a good idea. Seokjin, you must go too. crack some jokes, try to drive the Queen’s attention away while Namjoon speaks. - Hoseok instructed. Seokjin put himself on his feet too, and they walked out of the room, after curtly nodding at the knight.
- My Queen, you must sit for a bit, it’s not good for you to be standing for so long... - Mia - that was already there when they were directed to that room - asked, walking towards her.
- No, don’t worry dear I’m perfectly fine. I need to keep an eye on this. - she said, ignoring the pang of pain that rushed through her body for the third time in ten minutes, brushing it off as nothing. There’s still one month to go, so this should be normal. She sighed, clutching JungKook’s hand on her belly.
But it wasn’t.
JungKook was humming absentmindedly some tune on Y/N’s ear to distract her when Y/N’s knees gave away, soaring pain ripping on her insides, and a sudden stream of water running between her legs, incontrolably. She wailed, panicked, and everyone was stunned in place for a second, even JungKook, which barely had time to hold her firmly so she wouldn’t hit the floor.
- Y/N! What is going on? - he shouted, as she desperately held her belly, gasping for air as the pain came in waves at her.
- My w-water broke I’m... My baby - she stared at JungKook’s eyes, as Mia reached her, kneeling beside her body.
- The Queen’s in labor, we need to take her Majesty to the chamber and call a medic! - Mia looked around, and only then the rest seemed to regain life, ushering to open the doors, Taehyung, Jimin and Yoona running outside quickly to fetch a doctor, JungKook, Hoseok and Yoongi carrying Y/N, which contorted in pain.
- Queen, I know it hurts, but you have to keep your eyes open, the doctor is going to be here in a second. - Mia said as she her her Queen’s hand, while Y/N gasped for air hopelessly.
- Save my baby please, my little Majesty, I just need you to save him - she chanted, eyes almost fluttering shut. JungKook barked at the others to move faster, desperate with the weakness of Y/N’s voice. I’m not losing her again.
It’s been hours already. JungKook sighed exasperated, walking from side to side at Y/N’s room door, squeezing his eyes shut everytime she screamed in pain.
Namjoon talked with my father but apparently there’s no use, they want to see Y/N and discuss personally with her about his whole ordeal, but she has no conditions to. I know my mother should be poisoning my father’s ears right at this moment so they will make it difficult once they talk to her. Maybe I should go and speak to them, while they’re still on the meeting room... He questioned himself, hands grabbing at his face.
- It’s going to take a while, the doctor said. We can only wait now. What’s the situation down there? - Yoona asked, walking out of the Queen’s room.
- Chaotic, my father wants to speak with Y/N. He doesn’t seem to know she’s carrying my baby and I’m considering going downstairs to talk to him. What about Y/N? - he asked, and Yoona bit her lower lip, debating what to say to the prince.
- Well it’s a bloodbath to be honest. But the doctor is kind of experient, said he’d seen much worse and that everything ought to run smoothly. The labor was rushed because of the stress she has been on, but most certainly she’ll be fine. About what you said... - she trailed off, sighing tiredly. She could not be as smart as Namjoon for that matter, but still I think you should present the truth to him as it is. I mean, there’s a heir to both of the kingdom’s here and well... If you’re to marry with Y/N, you should become King, isn’t it? - she stated, and JungKook nodded, the matters on the back of his ming at that moment.
- What I’m going at is that you have to appeal like a son to him very little right now. But like a politician and a prince he will surely listen and abide to your deal. Sounds impersonal, but that’s the only way you can make the King ignore any word the Queen could have said to him already. - Yoona finished, and JungKook stood looking surprised at her face. She’s as genious as her brother.
- Will do then. I just need a moment to recollect myself then. - he muttered, ad the princess nod, smiling brightly at him.
- Okay then, I’ll be going back in. Luck, my prince. - she wished, winking at JungKook, before turning around and entering the room again. Before she could close the door, he saw Y/N’s face, as she cried, and his heart clenched.
Walking with all the confidence he could muster, he pushed the door of the meeting room, startling the ones inside. The knights looked alarmed, because they had told the prince to not go meet them under any circumstances, but he couldn’t help himself anymore, he needed to do something. I spent too much time depending on the decisions of others. It’s time I make my own destiny.
- Son, you finally decided to meet us huh? Very honorable of you. - the sarcasm in his father’s voice made JungKook wince, but he walked towards the man sat at the head of the table, comfortably like he owned the place.
- My King, I’m sorry for the delay. - he kneeled, bowing his head to his father in respect, and it surprised the receiver of the measure. - Queen. - JungKook complimented, pointedly looking at his mother, which looked at him with an unreadable expression.
- Why are you acting like this, JungKook? And what possibly could have made you so late to meet us? - the King asked as the prince got up, shaking his head.
- I’m acting like I should have acted a long time ago, father. And I was caught up upstairs, wanting to know the status of Queen Y/N, which is giving labor to my child. - he said, and it took some seconds for the King to process what his son had just said. Around him, the knights tensed up, noticing the increasing redness on their King’s face.
- See what I have told you, my King?Queen Y/N? We should just kill everyone on this land. All lies, JungKook’s child? Nonsense. By the way, where’s Yoona? - the Queen scoffed, and it took everything JungKook had to maintain his expression serious. I won’t let my mother make me loose my cool, not when we got so far already. He thought, ignoring Fae’s question.
- I demand to speak to that Queen. Who else knew about this? - the King spoke in a calm tone, even if his nostrils flared angered, and he had clutched the arms of his chair so tightly his knuckles turned white.
- Unfortunately, as the prince said, Queen Y/N is in labor, and unable to debate with my lord. Princess Yoona is also by her side, helping her deliver. - Taehyung stepped up, bowing as he spoke. - I was aware of that matter, it was on my old family’s shack the Queen hid after she ran from the castle. - he admitted, and the King slowly turned his gaze towards him, breathing out hard.
- You understand that what you’ve done can be considered treason, son? Yet you still confessed it to me? - the King stated, and the archer, still with his head down, nodded.
- You should be executed right here, by my husband’s hands. Helping the mother of a bastard hide from royal punishment... And yet you call yourself a knight. - Fae said, getting up to place a hand on her husband’s shoulder, as Taehyung flinched. JungKook was about to snap, realizing that her killing intentions where throught the roof, and she didn’t thought about stopping after murdering everyone who stood in front of her. Is my mother’s hatred so great for such futile matter?
- Quiet woman! - the King was the one to say it, wiping her hand off his shoulder and getting up, his cool for a first time lost. - You’ve done enought suggestions on your own. I’m the King here. - he turned to look down at the Queen, a hard stare that made Fae bow her head, startled.
- Now I want to know how this happened. When exactly, to be more precise. - JungKook’s father asked with regained calm, and the prince nodded, stepping forward.
- I had an affair with Y/N on the time she worked on the castle, as a maid. At the time I didn’t knew she was Queen, neither that she was with my child. It was eight to nine months ago, my King. - he spoke with tranquility, and the King nodded slowly.
- And how exactly a maid from Jeon turned into Queen? - he inquired, and this time, Yoongi was the one to step up beside the prince.
- Well King, she didn’t turned into a Queen, as Y/N always has been a Queen. Even your honorable wife knew that, being the one to give shelter to her and Queen Gabrielle’s sister on the occasion of the murder of the latter. - the spy explained, and the surprise on the King’s face was practically comic. More yet, the shock on Fae’s face was priceless. She opened her mouth to explain, but then Hoseok jumped up, interrupting her attempt.
- Yes, your Queen knew the origins of Y/N, about the affair the prince had, and also about her pregnancy. She was the one to order me to arrest her for treason, on the night of JungKook’s engagement. - he accused, and the King squinted, turning to the woman, which started to look furious, like an animal cornered.
- That woman should pay! Her mother stole William from me, and then she stole my son! This Queen of nothing should have remained to rot in Jeon, never knowing she had a better life, and I was about to make sure of that. - Fae growled, turning finally into the mad woman she was inside. The King only observed his crazed wife, and sighed, asking her to be retired from the room, which Seokjin helped.
- The sole reaction of this woman confirm your words, son. I knew about the rumors of Fae before I married her, that she had a love rival of another kingdom, for another King, but brushed it off because it really didn’t mattered after we got married. I thought your mother had forgot the issue, but seems like it corrupted her insides for this long. - the ruler of Jeon shook his head, scoffing. Turning to the other two remaining knights, he quirked an eyebrow at them. - I take that you two also knew about this, huh? Were you two preparing your arguments? - he asked, and Namjoon shrugged, saying that he had already admitted knowing all about that when they first talked.
- I’m your son’s best friend, Majesty. I knew a little more than he did, but I did knew. - Jimin sheepishly said, throwing a cute smile at his King, which snickered amused.
- I take it then you all are more loyal to my son than to me. I could be really mad at that, but... All I can think is how JungKook look like a King right about now. - he sighed, patting his son’s shoulder, which visibly relaxed.
- Still, there are two things left for me to say. - the King continued, looking at JungKook with a serious expression. - Politically speaking, this travel costed me much, because I took my time to travel through the country by Fae’s request, to fetch you and your wife since she said you had been kidnapped. So I needed to make a deal with the Queen here, to stifle any impending scandal. But since she’s unable to converse right about now, I’ll make a proposal: If the child she’s giving birth right now is a boy, I won’t even bat an eye before leaving. If not, then we’ll have to stay a little longer. - he proposed, and JungKook wanted to debate that, but then he reminded something important.
- I understand your demand, father, but I wish to add something to your proposal, which can be also of your pleasurement. If our baby is a male, then your Majesty leaves, but not before nulling my marriage with Yoona, so I can marry Queen Y/N, and also become King. - the prince countered, and added:
- Which will mean you’ll have a heir to your kingdom and a King with your blood on another one, and with the right arrangements, the unity of the lands can be done. - JungKook tried to contain a smile as he looked at the pleased expression of his father, eyes twinkling discreetly at the possibilities.
- Well done, my son. I’ll be then looking forward to fulfill your requests. But are you sure this can be done? The princess is aware of that, or even more, you two have conditions to null this arrangement? - he asked, but before JungKook could even say anything, someone snickered.
- My King, your son hasn’t laid a pinky on me, and I’m not offended by it at all. In fact, one could say I’m pretty much relieved. And yes, I completely agree with that, and can confidently say that my Lord should start moving their army, because the Queen had just given birth to Reya... And Kyan. - the woman announced proudly, pushing the hair glued to her sweaty forehead, with a bright smile.
The second JungKook heard about Y/N giving birth, he forgot about composure, forgot about everything, and just sprinted outside the room, running quickly to meet the love of his love and his two babies.
Y/N cried as she finally held her two babies on her arms, hearing them wail hungrily and healthily, as the doctor had put it. On the back of her mind she was worried about the events outside the castle, wondering what was going on and if something bad had happened. I took five hours to deliver, after all. But the thing she worried the most was about JungKook. Where he was, if he was safe, if he’d get the message that she had given birth to their children.
- Y/N! You... Oh my lord... - the door to her chambers opened with a bang, and the most desperate JungKook ever rushed inside, taking in the scene of the two bundles cradled on each arm on the mother of his children. Y/N couldn’t help but laugh at his shook expression, thinking on how that was mindblowing for him, since he had discovered he was to be a father just that day.
- Come meet your daughter and your son, my prince. - she weakly called, and JungKook didn’t even tried to supress his tears as he approached the three of them, taking one of the babies in his arms.
- Our children, Y/N. Two strong beautiful b-babies... - he stammered as the tears streamed down his cheeks, and he sat beside Y/N on the bloody bed, not even minding to ruin his clothes. Nothing ever minded anymore.
- Well, that’s really a surprise. We’ll have to find an extra kingdom for one of them to rule. - the presence of Jeon’s King made everyone surprised, and he laughed as he noticed Y/N clutched the child on her arms closer, and lifted his hands in surrender. - Don’t worry, I’m not here to take them away, or cause you any harm. - he eased them, but Y/N still didn’t trusted the King. Not yet, anyways.
- Whoa, Jungkook knocked you hard, didn’t he? - Seokjin commented, as the knights entered the room too. Noticing the presence of the King, the others slapped and punched his arms, stiffling their laughs.
- He’s my son, what did you all expected? - the King barked a laugh, walking slowly towards the couple. - Well son, as I had promised, I’ll leave this kingdom alone. And your conditions are accepted, by the way. I’ll send a messenger here to carry on the deal, since you’ve already stole my knights... But oh what to do. - the King snickered, and Y/N frowned, not really understanding what did he meant. A deal? What deal? She looked at JungKook, which smiled brightly at his father. Him, noticing Y/N’s stare, kissed her tample, saying that everything would be explained later, but that at the moment, they could breathe in peace.
- My wife will be put on her place, and I’ll make sure she doesn’t disturb the two of you anymore. - the King complemented, softly placing his hands over each one of the bundles of sleeping babies. Y/N felt a sort of endearment, noticing the expression on the Majesty’s eyes. Just like a grandfather seeing their grandsons.
- That is, if you will take me as your husband of course. - JungKook quipped, and Y/N snickered, brought out of her thoughts.
- Since you knocked me up, marrying me is the least you could do, don’t you think? - she countered, making JungKook blush slightly. - Besides, I think this country could use a King like you. - she finished, tilting her head to stare at his eyes, warmth filling her heart. His angelic smile was now towards her, and Y/N snickered as she noticed he was crying again, but didn’t commented on the matter, letting him just close the distance between their faces.
- Okay, I guess it’s time we leave them in privacy. They have a lot to talk about, and well, the babies need to be fed at one point. - Jimin cleared his throat - they all were feeling emotional - starting to push all of the people inside. Y/N and JungKook chuckled against each other’s lips, not really bothering to separate, since they were going to leave anyways.
- I to be honest, I can’t wait to make another baby with you, my Queen. - JungKook whispered on her ear, and Y/N giggled slapping his arm playfully as the King closed the door behind himself.
- Well if you do, make sure this time you don’t miss a thing, okay? - Y/N quipped, and scoffing JungKook nodded, leaning in to kiss her again.

Fall Fusion 2020 (The CW)
Tumblr media
Normally during this time of year, ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, and The CW get ready to unveil their primetime rosters.  However, this year will be much different, due to the uncertainty surrounding the Coronavirus pandemic.  Virtually all Hollywood productions are currently shut down until it can be determined that they are safe to reopen.  As a consequence, most of the fall pilots weren’t able to be completed in time for network executives to screen them ahead of constructing the 2020-21 network television season.
Although the networks will still be doing “upfronts” in May, they won’t be live...and, more pointedly, they will probably be more tentative when it comes to potential calendar dates.  After all, we won’t know when series are ready to have their exact premiere dates green-lit until we have a more concrete timeline of when they can go back into production.
While many writing rooms have been able to operate and interact – in preparation for next season – remotely, the on-set production cannot resume until safety precautions are developed.  Presumably, these protocols will involve:  medical screening and constant testing for all cast and crew members; appropriate sanitization regimes to keep the sets clean; and creative ways to mitigate risk (such as more closed sets, “bottle episodes,” and tapings where studio audiences are absent).
The “bubble shows” for this season are probably more likely to return than they would have been in past traditional seasons, just because they are familiar commodities with infrastructure already in place...and there is obviously a lack of completed pilots for new series that could replace them.  These could-go-either-way series include:  Zoe’s Extraordinary Playlist, Good Girls, Council of Dads, Lincoln Rhyme, Indebted, and Perfect Harmony on NBC; For Life, American Housewife, Emergence, Single Parents, Bless This Mess, Schooled, blackish, mixedish, and The Baker & The Beauty on ABC; All Rise, Bob Hearts Abishola, The Unicorn, Man with a Plan, Broke, Carol’s Second Act, Tommy, MacGyver, Magnum P.I., SEAL Team, and S.W.A.T. on CBS; Katy Keene on The CW; and The Moodys and Outmatched on Fox.
Tumblr media
Some new programs have already received a straight-to-series order, whereas others could receive a blind pickup commitment based on their written premises.  In addition, I wouldn’t be surprised if some shows are held over until later in 2021, just so the networks have a way to hedge their bets if there was a “second wave” of studio shutdowns due to hypothetical re-infections in late-2020 or early-2021.
Based on this unprecedented state of limbo Hollywood finds itself in, I am constructing a tentative “blueprint” for each broadcast network from the limited information we have.  I have constructed their respective schedules in three hypothetical programming “waves” – November/December/January, February/March/April, and May/June/July.
Obviously, any productions are subject to further delay based on extenuating circumstances. Likewise, a series that receives a more limited order of 13, 16, or 18 episodes could see its episode order expanded, if filming circumstances grow more favorable and the specific show performs well upon its return.
Tumblr media
(All times are Eastern/Pacific; subtract one hour for the Central/Mountain time zones)
(New shows highlighted in bold)
Featured network for today’s column…
THE CW
Sunday
8:00 – 72 Hours: True Crime (late-2020) / Batwoman (early-2021) / Stargirl (mid-2021)
9:00 – Dragon’s Den (late-2020) / Supergirl (early-2021 through mid-2021)
For fall “filler” programming, The CW could dip into the library of Canadian partner CBS to re-broadcast episodes of 72 Hours: True Crime and Dragon’s Den.  The former ran from 2004 to 2007 where it profiled non-fictional crime scenes; the latter is an international phenomenon that inspired the U.S.-based Shark Tank, and the Canadian version led by head judge Jim Treliving would be the most logical iteration for re-broadcast by The CW.
By January or February, the Batwoman / Supergirl bloc could return; and, if Stargirl (starring School of Rock’s Brec Bassinger) proves to be a hit this summer, it could return by May or June (once Batwoman has closed its sophomore season).
Tumblr media
Monday
8:00 – Hyderdrive (late-2020) / All-American (early-2021) / Supernatural (mid-2021)
8:30 – The Goes Wrong Show (late-2020) / All-American (early-2021) / Supernatural (mid-2021)
9:00 – Pushing Daisies (late-2020) / Black Lightning (early-2021) / Maverick (mid-2021)
For fall “filler” programming, The CW can turn to British favorites from its CW Seed streaming service.   Hyperdrive, a BBC-based sci-fi sitcom starring Nick Frost (The World’s End) and Miranda Hart (Spy), could share the first hour of the night with Mischief Theatre’s phenom The Goes Wrong Show.  The second hour could be occupied by select episodes of Pushing Daisies, a cult favorite from 2007-08 that originally aired on ABC but now finds its streaming rights owned by CW Seed.
By January or February, All-American and Black Lightning would return as a pair.  Once they complete their respective 16-episode runs by April or May, Supernatural would air its final seven (currently unproduced) episodes into the summer.  Paired with Supernatural could be Maverick, a political/college alternate universe thriller with Brockmire’s Reina Hardesty in the title role.
Tumblr media
Tuesday
8:00 – I Ship It (late-2020) / The Flash (early-2021 through mid-2021)
8:30 – Gavin and Stacey (late-2020) / The Flash (early-2021 through mid-2021)
9:00 – Chris Haddock’s Intelligence (late-2020) / Green Arrow & The Canaries (early-2021) / Roswell New Mexico (mid-2021)
For fall “filler” programming, the CW Seed musical rom-com I Ship It could be paired into the same hour alongside the imported James Corden classic Gavin & Stacey.  The second hour of the night can be filled by the 2006-07 Canadian crime procedural Intelligence.
By January or February, The Flash’s seventh season should be ready to air new episodes, as a lead-in for the Katie Cassidy-led Arrow spinoff tentatively titled Green Arrow & The Canaries.  Then, in that same 9pm time slot, Roswell would return for its third season by April or May.
Tumblr media
Wednesday
8:00 – The Fades (late-2020) / Riverdale (early-2021 through mid-2021)
9:00 – Dominic Minghella’s Robin Hood (late-2020) / Superman & Lois (early-2021) / Katy Keene (mid-2021)
For fall “filler” programming, the short-lived BBC supernatural drama The Fades could be recycled for six weeks, paired with the 2006-09 British version of Robin Hood (featuring The Hobbit’s Richard Armitage, True Blood’s Lucy Griffiths, Supergirl’s David Harewood, and Lost in Space’s Toby Stephens).  Since The Fades only has six weeks’ worth of content, Robin Hood could air double-episodes up through the new year until Riverdale is ready to air.
Alongside Season 5 of Riverdale could be the Tyler Hoechlin / Bitsie Tulloch spinoff Superman & Lois, expanding the Berlantiverse even further.  After Superman & Lois airs approximately 13 episodes, Katy Keene can return for a late-spring / early-summer sophomore season.
Tumblr media
Thursday
8:00 – Ken Riddington’s House of Cards (late-2020) / Nancy Drew (early-2021) / Legends of Tomorrow (mid-2021)
9:00 – Married Single Other (late-2020) / Legacies (early-2021) / Walker (mid-2021)
For fall “filler” programming, the original House of Cards (which aired as a four-part British miniseries in 1990) could be on The CW’s schedule for four or five weeks.  The second hour can be filled by the 2010 British suburban drama Married Single Other.  Since these two imported entries combined would only fill one month-and-a-half worth of programming, iHeart Radio might need to commission some special programming to coincide with the autumn/winter holidays. Continued airings of Burden of Proof can be a fallback option.
By January or February, Nancy Drew and Legacies should be paired together to run through May.   Then, as the summer approaches, Legends of Tomorrow would begin airing its sixth season, coupled with the Walker, Texas Ranger reimagination; since Supernatural’s Jared Padalecki will be in the Chuck Norris role for the new Walker, it would be fitting that the series airs its freshman season in tandem with Supernatural airing its own final episodes.
Tumblr media
Friday
8:00 – Master of Illusion or The Bleak Old Shop of Stuff (late-2020) / Charmed (early-2021) / Penn & Teller or Whose Line Is It Anyway? (mid-2021)
9:00 – Primeval (late-2020) / Dynasty (early-2021) / In The Dark (mid-2021)
For fall “filler” programming, along with a repurposed version of Master of Illusion, The CW could import the BBC Victorian period piece The Bleak Old Shop of Stuff, which would be especially apt to air close to Christmas.  ITV sci-fi hit Primeval should air 36 episodes’ worth of content whenever the former entries weren’t able to.
By January or February, Charmed and Dynasty would return as a duo.  When those two finish out their third and fourth seasons, respectively, Penn & Teller: Fool Us, Whose Line is it Anyway?, and In The Dark will be reliable early-summer programming.
Tumblr media
Of course, new original series (including scripted programming) could be developed throughout the year and added to the schedule in piecemeal fashion.  It’s just going to depend on how quickly location shoots and live studio audiences can be reintegrated into productions as commonplace, once again.
Until then, TV shows will have to find creative ways around that...or develop alternative types of programming.

Install CentOS 7 on VirtualBox as any network-connected machine
Tumblr media
In this article I will explain a hundreds virtualbox bridge mode. That is, how to install it so that it looks like a machine a local ip. You may need to make the machine available from the outside and then create a virtual server to redirect a particular router port to a specific ip of the virtual server. Centos is a very widespread distribution because it is stable, fast and very up-to-date. We can say that it is part of the RedHat family. In fact, the Fedora project is the desktop equivalent, and the CentOS project is the desktop equivalent. If you're bored reading the whole article or if there's a few steps you didn't understand, you can watch the video at the bottom of the page or leave a comment anyway. I'll answer you as soon as possible.
1. Download the ISO CentOS 7
First, you need to download the iso from the site you can find by searching on google, for convenience I enter the direct link. You can also use this procedure on a physical machine by burning the iso on a CD. In this case, go directly to step 3. If you do not know how to burn the iso of a CD, which does not mean simply copying the file to the cd, I recommend you read a guide on how to burn an iso file on cd.
2. Configuring the virtual machine
After you download the iso, you need to open VirtualBox. If you haven't installed it yet, we recommend that you read an article about how to install virtualboxes. You must click on the blue circular icon to start the wizard that will allow you to create your own virtual machine. Enter a name, I chose to enter a name that contains the word CentOS because in this way the system automatically chooses the template for the most similar operating system. If you want to enter a different name you can do it but you will have to choose from the drop-down menus the appropriate template, in this case the type must be Linux and the version must be RedHat (64bit). I chose the 64-bit system because it is the best choice if we do not want to have problems related to memory management and file size. If you can't see 64-bit operating systems in the drop-down menu, you haven't enabled virtualization or your hardware doesn't support it in your bios. So if you don't know how to enable this option I recommend you read an article on how to enable virtualization in bios. Then click on and choose the amount of ram, I recommend you to enter at least 512 MB, I have left the recommended setting that is 1024MB. By clicking on, you will be asked to create a file system, you can choose from the various types of file system. I chose the (VirtualBox Disk Image) because I don't need to share this file system with other virtualization platforms. The next screen asks you if you want to dynamically allocate space or if you want a specified fixed size. The difference between dynamically allocated space and specified space is that with the first option it temporarily saves disk space because, although the virtual disk is set to reach a certain size at most, this space has not yet been allocated. The second option already allocates the space you set and generally increases performance. After setting up the virtual hardisk, we return to the main virtualbox screen, we will display our virtual machine on the left. Right-click on the virtual machine and choose "settings" then select "network" from the menu on the left and set network adapter 1 as active and connected in "Tab with Bridge" mode and make sure that the name of the card is that of the connected to the network of the computer hosting the virtual machine. Now we have to mount the iso so that the virtual machine sees it as a CD. Select "Achiviation" from the left menu under IDE controller select the CD image and choose the CD icon on the right. I, having already tried this procedure, I already have in the quick selection menu the iso. If this is your first time doing this test, you'll need to select the iso file by entering the path to the image you downloaded in step 1. Click the "OK" button and launch the virtual machine by pressing the green arrow to the right.
3. Installing the operating system
The virtual machine window will open and you will notice that you are proposed to choose. If you don't touch anything, the system will check the image. You can still select the direct installation with the darts "up" and "down" next to the numeric keypad. Don't get confused with "page up" and "page down." The darts I say, they're 4 and they form a kind of triangle. If you've never used virtualboxes, you'll see messages informing you how to activate the mouse inside the virtual machine. In fact, what we are interested to know is that to act with the mouse inside the virtual machine, you have to click inside the window twice with the left mouse button. To exit and use our desktop normally, simply press the right "ctrl" key on the keyboard. If you have trouble assimilating these concepts, we recommend that you read an article on how to move around within the virtualbox window. After the installation has started, you'll see a window asking for your language after some time. Select your language and click the blue button at the bottom right. A window will open where you will have to choose the destination of the installation: our virtual hardisk. I have selected the "I want to make more space available" option to select the entire file system. I then clicked on the blue confirmation button in the upper left and i chose "delete all" in the lower right window that opened. To confirm then I clicked on the "Recover Space" button. There are better ways to partition a disk, especially if you want a high-performance and secure system but in this article I won't talk about it. If you want to find out about this I recommend you read an article about the various types of configuration for partitioning a linux system. It's time to set up our network and then click on "Network & HostName". We activate our network adapter by simply clicking on the button next to "OFF" which will change color and label for switching to the status of "ON". Theoretically, in this way, the system should automatically hook up to the DHCP server and configure itself but I much prefer to enter the data by hand. I then clicked on the button at the bottom left "Configure", I selected the "IPV4 settings" tab in the window that opened, I selected it as a "manual" method and I entered in the address list the local ip address 192.168.1.29 because it is not used by other machines. I chose the mask 255.255.255.0 and the Gateway 192.168.1.1 because it is the ip address of my router. As a DNS server I always prefer to enter the google one because it seems to me the fastest and most reliable, so I entered 8.8.8.8 . When you click the "save" button, you'll notice that your virtual network adapter settings have changed. I have chosen the appropriate settings to the internet, I have an adsl router. If you don't know which settings to enter you can skip the manual configuration and leave everything automatically. The system, if a "DHCP" server is available, should automatically detect ip addresses. It's not wise anyway. For this reason, if you feel the need to learn more and understand what you are doing, I recommend you read an article on the theory of networks (work networks). To proceed, you need to click the blue button at the top left and you will return to the previous screen. Here, you will need to confirm everything by clicking on the blue button at the bottom right "Start Installation". During the unattended installation process, which can take several minutes, you will be asked to set a root password (the user administrator of linux systems). Click over the key icon and enter two identical and possibly complex passwords that you will confirm by clicking on the blue button on the top left. If you don't know how to choose a strong password I recommend you read an article on how to choose a strong password. At this point, after some time, you will find that the procedure is finished when you see the blue "restart" button in the bottom right that you will click. The next time you restart, the system will start automatically, you will place in the linux shell "root" as the username and password you have chosen. End. If you follow the steps I described, you should not have any problems because I tested the whole step by step. I did this test with virtualbox installed on a windows 10 machine. If you don't know the difference between these two things, I recommend you read an article that illustrates the differences between a development environment, a test environment and a production environment. Never perform procedures that you don't know perfectly in a production environment and never without a backup. In this video, you can see all the steps. Read the full article

5 reasons why autonomous cars aren't coming anytime soon
In the world of autonomous vehicles, Pittsburgh and Silicon Valley are bustling hubs of development and testing. But ask those involved in self-driving vehicles when we might actually see them carrying passengers in every city, and you’ll get an almost universal answer: Not anytime soon.
An optimistic assessment is 10 years. Many others say decades as researchers try to conquer a number of obstacles. The vehicles themselves will debut in limited, well-mapped areas within cities and spread outward.
The fatal crash in Arizona involving an Uber autonomous vehicle in March slowed progress, largely because it hurt the public’s perception of the safety of vehicles. Companies slowed research to be more careful. Google‘s Waymo, for instance, decided not to launch a fully autonomous ride-hailing service in the Phoenix area and will rely on human backup drivers to ferry passengers, at least for now.
Here are the problems that researchers must overcome to start giving rides without humans behind the wheel:
———
SNOW AND WEATHER
When it’s heavy enough to cover the pavement, snow blocks the view of lane lines that vehicle cameras use to find their way. Researchers so far haven’t figured out a way around this. That’s why much of the testing is done in warm-weather climates such as Arizona and California.
Heavy snow, rain, fog and sandstorms can obstruct the view of cameras. Light beams sent out by laser sensors can bounce off snowflakes and think they are obstacles. Radar can see through the weather, but it doesn’t show the shape of an object needed for computers to figure out what it is.
“It’s like losing part of your vision,” says Raj Rajkumar, an electrical and computer engineering professor at Carnegie Mellon University.
Researchers are working on laser sensors that use a different light beam wavelength to see through snowflakes, said Greg McGuire, director of the MCity autonomous vehicle testing lab at the University of Michigan. Software also is being developed so vehicles can differentiate between real obstacles and snowflakes, rain, fog, and other conditions.
But many companies are still trying to master the difficult task of driving on a clear day with steady traction.
“Once we are able to have a system reliably perform in those, then we’ll start working toward expanding to those more challenging conditions,” said Noah Zych, Uber’s head of system safety for self-driving cars.
———
PAVEMENT LINES AND CURBS
Across the globe, roadway marking lines are different, or they may not even exist. Lane lines aren’t standardized, so vehicles have to learn how to drive differently in each city. Sometimes there aren’t any curbs to help vehicles judge lane width.
For instance, in Pittsburgh’s industrial “Strip District,” where many self-driving vehicles are tested, the city draws lines across the narrow lanes to mark where vehicles should stop for stop signs. Sometimes the lines are so far back and buildings are so close to the street that autonomous cars can’t see traffic on the cross street if they stop at the line. One workaround is to program vehicles to stop for the line and creep forward.
“Is it better to do a double stop?” asked Pete Rander, president of Argo AI, an autonomous vehicle company in which Ford has invested heavily. “Since intersections vary, it’s not that easy.”
———
DEALING WITH HUMAN DRIVERS
For many years, autonomous vehicles will have to deal with humans who don’t always play by the rules. They double-park or walk in front of cars. Recently in Pittsburgh, an Argo backup driver had to take over when his car stopped during a right turn, blocking an intersection when it couldn’t immediately decide whether to go around a double-parked delivery truck.
“Even if the car might eventually figure something out, it’s shared space, and it’s socially unacceptable” to block traffic, Rander said.
Humans also make eye contact with other drivers to make sure they’re looking in the right direction, something still being developed for autonomous vehicles.
Add to that the antagonism that some feel toward robots. People have reportedly been harassing Waymo’s autonomous test vehicles near Phoenix. The Arizona Republic reported in December that police is suburban Chandler have documented at least 21 cases in the past two years, including a man waiving a gun at a Waymo van and people who slashed tires and threw rocks. One Jeep forced the vans off the road six times.
———
LEFT TURNS
Deciding when to turn left in front of oncoming traffic without a green arrow is one of the more difficult tasks for human drivers and one that causes many crashes. Autonomous vehicles have the same trouble.
Waymo CEO John Krafcik said in a recent interview that his company’s vehicles are still encountering occasional problems at intersections.
“I think the things that humans have challenges with, we’re challenged with as well,” he said. “So sometimes unprotected lefts are super challenging for a human, sometimes they’re super challenging for us.”
———
CONSUMER ACCEPTANCE
The fatal Uber crash near Phoenix last year did more than push the pause button on testing. It also rattled consumers who someday will be asked to ride in self-driving vehicles.
Surveys taken after the Uber crash showed that drivers are reluctant to give up control to a computer. One by AAA found that 73 percent of American drivers would be too fearful to ride in a fully self-driving vehicle. That’s up from 63 percent in late 2017.
Autonomous vehicle companies are showing test passengers information on screens about where the vehicles are headed and what its sensors are seeing. The more people ride, the more they trust the vehicles, says Waymo’s Krafcik.
“After they become more and more confident they rarely look at the screens, and they’re on their phones or relaxing or sleeping,” he said.

Watch Review: Casio G-Shock Move GBD-H1000 GPS Heart-Rate Monitor
This year in 2020 Japan’s Casio introduced an even clearer glimpse of the future of G-Shock. The world-famous “bulletproof” collection of highly durable G-Shock timepieces is more than 35-years-old, and Casio continues to produce both fashionable legacy models and technologically sophisticated modern G-Shock products with mainstream appeal for consumers beyond mere timepiece enthusiasts and collectors. The G-Shock Move is just such a product, and today, I am reviewing the Casio G-Shock Move GBD-H1000 (specifically, the black, white, and neon green reference GBDH1000-1A7). Don’t miss our quick-start guide on this reference if you’d just like to learn about its core features and how to log your first workout.
Casio G-Shock evolution isn’t a linear progression of products that directly improve upon one another but is more like an evolutionary tree with arms that branch into different directions representing the various ways Casio engineers have played with keeping G-Shock watches both innovative and relevant. One direction was to take all the durability and functionality of G-Shock watches and to render them in entirely analog (non-digital) form with products that have their apex in the MR-G collection. Another direction was to incorporate Bluetooth functionality into mainstream timepiece products as a simple way to update the time as people travel. Casio has even invested in smartwatches ranging from the Google Wear-powered WSD-F30 (the latest generation Casio smartwatch at the time of writing), as well as hybrid approaches that combine smartwatch functionality with more traditional G-Shock functionality. The G-Shock Move GBD-H1000 is just such a hybrid product, and I personally think it represents the future of Casio G-Shock watches better than pretty much anything else Casio has released lately.
G-Shock Hybrid Smartwatch Evolution
The GBD-H100’s direct predecessor was the Casio G-Shock Rangeman GPR-B1000 (aBlogtoWatch review here) that introduced the new MIP LCD display, dual USB/solar charging, and the new-generation operating system. The GPR-B1000 is a dive-style watch and is also both larger and twice as expensive as the newer GBD-H1000. This latest generation G-Shock product price point is likely a strategic decision, as Casio wishes to aggressively capture more of the smartwatch and activity tracker market. Given what you get, the price actually feels like a bargain when looking at the competition.
The G-Shock Move is also the brand’s first “Five Sensor” watch with the addition of a dedicated heart-rate monitor. The product actually has more than five sensors, but given the traditional way these are counted, those five sensors are a compass, altimeter/barometer, thermometer, step counter, and heart-rate monitor. Don’t forget that the Casio module inside the GBD-H1000 has features GPS signal and Bluetooth connectivity.
The reason I refer to the G-Shock Move as a “hybrid smartwatch” is because as a “connected” timepiece that does offer notifications and Bluetooth connectivity, it certainly does more smart things than a traditional timepiece. That said, it doesn’t offer a more contemporary smartwatch experience with apps and bi-directional watch/phone communication like an Apple Watch or device running Google Wear.
Instead, Casio developed its own operating system, which seems to emphasize focused functionality and efficiency. This is probably to prioritize battery life and overall reliability. Casio engineers have lots of experience creating calculators that use very low power. That is, basically, what most Casio digital watches, in effect, are. Features such as a heart-rate monitor and Bluetooth connectivity are things modern consumers want but that are hungry when it comes to battery life. Casio knows it can’t compete in all areas of the smartwatch and activity tracker market, but the brand has correctly surmised that they can have an edge when it comes to power-efficient devices.
Accordingly, one of the most common complaints consumers have about smartwatches and activity trackers, in general, is the need to regularly charge them. The GBD-H1000 has both a passive solar charging system (the photovoltaic cell is actually a ring around the screen) and can be charged with a magnetic USB-based cable. Casio’s selling point is that, for the most part, you can wear and use the G-Shock Move like any other G-Shock timepiece without having to regularly charge it as you might a smartwatch. That said, if you are regularly using power-intensive features such as GPS tracking, the light-power system won’t be able to keep up with the battery drain. You can top up the battery as needed when relying on the GBD-H1000 for repeated, long-interval tracking purposes.
Casio will continue to improve upon the core features of the G-Shock Move, as such devices are always moving targets when it comes to adding new elements, improving hardware, and refining software. I truly believe that this new operating system represents the future of what most G-Shock watches will be like. The new screens are vastly more legible than standard LCD screens, the operating system is infinitely deeper and more engaging, and the added features such as a heart-rate monitor could easily find their way into an increasing percentage of the wristwatches Casio produces.
G-Shock Durability & Design
Even though the GBD-H1000 is now in the “G-Shock Move” family, I still consider it as a spiritual successor to the Rangeman family when a design perspective. The case is smaller and more wearable than the last generation Rangeman it replaces, but the GBD-H1000 is still a larger timepiece at 55mm-wide, 63mm from lug-to-lug, and 20.4mm-thick. The resin and steel case (water-resistant to 200 meters) is solidly made but weighs just 101 grams. Over the screen is a mineral crystal, which is protected by the steep bezel structure.
As with all G-Shock watches, you can easily throw the GBD-H1000 around and not worry about it. This is increasingly true of many competitive smartwatches out there, but I really don’t think most other timepieces out there can survive the abuse a G-Shock can, and still look good afterward.
Not everyone is a fan of the GBDH1000-1A7’s black, white, and neon green/yellow color scheme. It looks like it was designed to go with trendy running shoes, but otherwise, it is hard to fashionably match the timepiece with your daily wardrobe. Other colors will be available in the future, but right now Casio also makes the G-Shock Move GBDH1000-1 that is in all black resin for a slightly more conservative look.
Compared to the Rangeman GPR-B1000, the GBD-H1000 has its pushers flipped, but otherwise, the case still has five buttons on it, and no “scroll wheel” like the Rangeman. Despite a relatively simple learning curve to understand how to use the new G-Shock operating system, I still feel that Casio has a ways to go in matching other modern smartwatches when it comes to intuitive user interface and input design. A scroll wheel or some type of directional arrow system would be a great inclusion — as knowing what button to press requires study and depends on the screen you are currently looking at.
The G-Shock move also has among the better attaching magnetic charging cables I’ve seen. They replaced the “claw dock” of the Rangeman, and while it takes a bit of finagling to make sure the cable is seated correctly, it remains securely attached to the caseback while charging. Having said that, I found myself only using the charger occasionally after heavy GPS usage. This is where I discuss my biggest compliment to the Casio team — finally a modern Bluetooth-connected activity tracker that I don’t need to worry about putting on the charger each day.
Mind you, I was charging the watch, but by putting it near a window so that light can hit the screen. It would be silly to suggest that a device like this doesn’t need to be charged — it is too power-hungry outside of its disconnected (from GPS/Bluetooth) power-saving mode to run on the internal battery alone for too long. It is more accurate to say that I kept the watch charged by using solar power as opposed to USB power. So, assuming you can expose your GBD-H1000 timepiece to enough sunlight each day, I think you should be able to use GPS tracking a few hours a week and probably avoid using the USB charger unless you are using tracking heavily.
Where I would like to see more design attention is the digital displays themselves. Sure, Casio’s engineers are still getting accustomed to a new system, but the displays are pretty basic-looking and lack the flair of, say, the case design. Casio is still new to creating modern-looking and attractive software user interface screens, but before long I’d like to see a bit more sexiness or at least additional display options when it comes to the aesthetic experience of reading the information on the GBD-H1000 and the products that will follow it.
G-Shock Move App & Smartwatch Features
While most of the existing Bluetooth-enabled Casio watches use its G-Shock Connect app, the GBD-H1000 is the first or among the first Casio watches to use the new G-Shock Move app. This app allows you to adjust various settings on the watch, and also receives activity data from the watch allowing you to view more information about your workouts/adventures as well as helps keep you on point with your fitness goals.
I’ve used a good number of smartwatch apps so far and tend to find that each of them has small quirks. A common one is having to sometimes restart the app or manually initiate a pairing to get your watch and smartphone to speak to each other. Only the Apple Watch with its totally proprietary software ecosystem seems to avoid this. It isn’t that big a deal, but I hope in the future Bluetooth-connected watches and their related smartphone application software connect more seamlessly and reliably in the background.
There is a lot you can do and view in the G-Shock Move app that isn’t really natively available on the watch, or is simply more convenient on the phone. I found, for example, that viewing the details of my workout wasn’t as simple on the watch screen itself as compared with the app. The app is also appreciably snappier than the G-Shock Move watch itself in certain regards. The timepiece’s operating system doesn’t normally lag, but it does take some time if it is updating something related to memory (such as saving or deleting a workout). This is all likely related to Casio’s desire to keep the system lean and not use too much power in order to preserve battery life. As such, pretty much all smartwatches and activity trackers today have functionality based on the premise of balancing battery life and performance.
While you can get basic smartphone notifications on your GBD-H1000 screen, I prefer to turn this feature off since I find it a bit distracting (because it isn’t that straightforward a process). I like to think of the smartphone connectivity to be an accessory to an otherwise independent timepiece device. Some smartwatches, such as the Apple Watch, aren’t really meant to live too long without being near their host phone device. The GBD-H1000 has features that get a big boost by working with a smartphone, but in reality, this is a product that can still be used entirely independently of a smartphone. Even things like auto-updating of the time can be done directly via a GPS signal.
What Its Like Using The G-Shock Move GBD-H1000 As Exercise Activity Tracker
Now let’s talk about getting sweaty with the G-Shock Move GBD-H1000. All this theoretical talk about activity tracking is just a prelude to experiencing the timepiece as an exercise companion for me. My preferred activity to test out sport smartwatches is hiking. It also helps that I do the same activity with different products so that I can evaluate how different products compare with each other. I will say right now that there is no single best timepiece I’ve used for tracking my hikes and bike rides. There are things Apple, Garmin, and Casio each do best, and other areas in which they may be beaten by the competition.
To a degree, this is about design, but more accurately I’d say that each activity tracking watchmaker chooses a different mixture of priorities for their products. For example, some watches will offer you more functionality but far less battery life. The longer you need to go between battery charges, the less the device will do for you. As I said before, Casio’s focus with its activity trackers right now is both ultra-durability and long-lasting battery life.
The MIP LCD screen is actually brighter in the sunlight and one of the most legible digital displays I’ve ever experienced on such a watch. It reflects light similar to many Garmin screens but in an even more effective way (though the Casio screen is monochromatic, whereas Garmin has a full-color display). So, high marks overall to Casio for these new types of screens.
Unlike some other activity tracker watches, Casio does not seem to allow you to indicate what sport or activity you are doing. Garmin and Apple both want the user to tell the device what activity they are doing (biking, swimming, running, etc…) prior to working out. Casio still needs you to manually tell the G-Shock Move when you are going to work out, but you just activate it without selecting a specific activity. I don’t know the full implications of this, but my guess is that this will lead to more simple operation for many consumers, but there might be precise data points that the GBD-H1000 doesn’t track as well as other smartwatches.
As a GPS-based device trying to be lean on power consumption I found that the activity tracking of my hikes was pretty accurate. Though I did find that in some areas the GBD-H1000’s readings varied from those of a Garmin MARQ. I already tested the Garmin MARQ and the Apple Watch during exercising tracking and found that the two devices were remarkably similar in their results. Casio seemed a bit off when it comes to heart-rate tracking, altitude, and calories burned. That said, if you use the G-Shock Move all the time, it will track consistently, so even if you are burning more calories than the watch says you are, you know from work out to work out how your performance is trending.
My guess is that Garmin and Apple are allowing more power for GPS and other tracking functions while Casio is being decidedly more lean about it. That probably has some minor performance implications and that explains the different readings. I don’t really see this as a ding on Casio but more generally want to tell consumers not to expect all activity trackers to track the same, even if they all say they track the same metrics.
While currently tracking a workout, you have access to a few screen displays. I like being able to view my current heart rate as well as things such as the total distance or time I’ve been exercising. Most of this can be accessible, but I still found myself scrolling through screens a bit more than I’d like while trying to focus on hiking. That is a common complaint about most activity trackers, though. What I’d like to see in the future is software in the G-Shock Move app that lets me create custom viewing experiences so that when I am working out I can see just the data I want in front of me without having to fiddle with pushers too much.
Even if you are not actively measuring a timed workout or adventure, the GBD-H1000 can still tell you things such as your current heart rate and a slew of other data. It just won’t be using GPS for tracking, etc… So even as a casual sport watch with added tools such as a compass, HR monitor, and step counter, the GBD-H1000 can work really well.
Finally, let me discuss the “Workouts” mode which is actually somewhat different from activity tracking (which most people will refer to as the watch tracking their current workout). Workouts on the watch is one of the main mode screens and, in essence, is a series of up to five “stackable” and programmable repeating countdown timers. This is best used for people who like to incorporate interval training into their exercise regimes. It is popular, for instance, to do workout sessions that rely on a series of three-minute countdown intervals. The watch can be programmed for that. You can also get more complicated with it and program five instances of a three-minute countdown timer, followed by three instances of a 10-minute countdown timer. While some planning is required, this novel feature finally offers a satisfying solution for those seeking interval training functionality on their watches.
Consumers G-Shock Move Watches Are Best For
Most consumers today still don’t really have experience incorporating a smartwatch into their exercise or lifestyle regimen. That means they rely on the products to tell them what to expect as opposed to buying new smartwatches and activity trackers with too many built-in expectations. Not having to recharge them too often may be among the few exceptions to what I just said.
This implies that just as consumers will tell Casio how to evolve its hybrid smartwatch next, Casio is telling consumers how to make use of these products. I encourage avid adventurers and regular exercisers to experiment with great products like the G-Shock Move GDB-H1000 and see how they can help improve their lives and fitness goals. For many people, the mere ability to see the distance they have traveled, the time it took them, and the effort necessary are useful enough.
Casio has even more advanced athletes in mind with the GBD-H1000, offering features such a VO2 max calculations and recommended recovery times. These tools are useful, but unless you already come to the plate knowing how to use these features, the GBD-H1000 device itself won’t give you too many hints. This is a larger issue with fitness trackers that I think will resolve itself in the coming years as consumers have more built-in knowledge of how to use these devices in a more complete fashion.
If you never want to track a workout, is the G-Shock Move a good timepiece for you? That’s a good question. Like I said, the watch is designed to offer a seamless, autonomous wearing experience that doesn’t require a smartphone and doesn’t require charging if you leave the GPS feature off. New tools such as the heart-rate monitor are useful throughout your day, such as a means to measure stress or to make sure you are putting in enough cardiovascular effort when you are seeking to do so. The GBD-H1000 represents Casio’s latest move to develop a new operating system, which is still just a few years old. More time will have to pass before lay consumers see this in more fashion-forward or slimmed down G-Shock models with accordingly refined and focused feature sets. This is important to mention because lovers of smartwatches and similar timepieces are naturally segmented between openminded early adopters with a willingness to experiment and impatient consumers seeking the latest tech experience on their wrist.
Casio’s G-Shock Move GBD-H1000 currently leads the activity-tracking watch industry in a few areas, namely when it comes to its own special blend of mixing battery life with lots of functionality. I never feel like the GBD-H1000 is simple in its features, even if the core functionality of the watch is more streamlined than some of the competition that offers a truer smartwatch experience. Most importantly, the GBD-H1000 is a novel-feeling device that will still make traditional G-Shock product enthusiasts happy. Casio continues to prove that it would rather keep quality, performance, and expectations high, even if it debuts new features a bit more slowly than some of the technology competitors out there. I’m certainly going to be keeping this watch on my wrist while being active for a long time to come. Price for the Casio G-Shock Move GBDH1000-1A7 is $399.99 USD. Learn more at the G-Shock website here.

Sometimes, it was easy for Eijun to forget that not all the members of the Justice League were gone. Just because the most recognizable faces had left didn’t mean there weren’t more members.
And having a Green Lantern left to them was proving to be the best case scenario, considering they were fighting off aliens. So when said Green Lantern called them to the Watchtower, they listened.
Eijun hadn’t been allowed to come to the Watchtower often, and when he was younger, it had been a special treat to come with his mother. But now, especially considering the last time he’d been here with Kuramochi, it didn’t feel like so much fun.
A hand squeezing his own broke Eijun out of his thoughts. Miyuki was facing stubbornly forward, the blush in his cheeks the only indication that he felt anything from grabbing Eijun’s hand.
“Quit making a face like that,” Miyuki told him. Eijun had become just fluent enough in Miyuki-speak over the years to translate. I’m worried about you.
“It’s fine,” Eijun said. “I just miss my mom.”
“Don’t we all,” Miyuki sighed.
“Good, you’re all here,” Ryou said. Eijun looked around. With Tetsu and Jun there, it almost felt like their old team was back together. It made Kuramochi’s absence even more stark. “Apparently, we’ve got something incoming.”
“Something big,” Hal Jordan added, gesturing to his screen. “It’s about to pass in front of one of the moons of Saturn. See the size comparison?”
“That’s behind the moon,” Miyuki pointed out. Hal whirled around.
“You’re kidding me,” he muttered. “That’s huge.”
“Any clue what it actually is?” Ryou asked. Hal did something that let him zoom in farther.
“It must be almost as big as our moon, and…oh no,” Hal looked back at them with horror. “This is Warworld.”
“That doesn’t sound ideal,” Tetsu said. Eijun gripped Miyuki’s hand harder.
“It’s a mobile doomsday weapon,” Hal said. “It was created thousands of years ago by an alien race that, surprise surprise, is dead now. Last I heard anything about it, someone named Mongul woke it up with a crystal key that was lost for centuries, and he’s piloting it now.”
“Who’s Mongul?” Ryou asked. He seemed to be taking this relatively well, all things considered. Then again, Eijun had never been the best at reading him.
“Once upon a time, he was a dictator,” Hal explained. “Someone else kicked him off his throne. He wants it back.”
“So what does that have to do with us?” Miyuki asked.
“He’s decided the best way to do that is to take over the entire galaxy,” Hal said. “I guess the Reach made Earth enough of a threat to that plan that he’s here.”
“Of course that’s what’s going on,” Ryou sighed. “How long do we have until it’s here?”
“Based on how fast it’s moving now?” Hal said, looking at his screen again. “A few days at most. We’re going to need all hands on deck.”
“We’ve been all hands on deck for months,” Ryou said, and Eijun was sure now that he didn’t misread the strain in Ryou’s voice. “It’s all we can do to hold the planet together while the Justice League is gone. Speaking of, you haven’t heard anything, have you?”
“Cross galaxy communication isn’t known for being reliable,” Hal said. “It can’t be too much longer, though.”
“If they’re coming back at all,” Ryou muttered, just long enough for all of them to hear. Eijun felt Miyuki wince as his grip tightened, and Eijun quickly dropped his hand. “I guess that’s all we can do, then. Everyone’s on standby until we can actually do something about this.”
Eijun hung back to talk to Miyuki while the others left.
“Do you think Ryou meant that?” he asked. “About them not coming back?”
“I think Ryou’s tired, and sick of trying to hold us together, and not feeling his best,” Miyuki said. He punched Eijun’s chest lightly, leaving his fist over Eijun’s heart. “Your mom’s coming back. How could they stop Wonder Woman?”
Miyuki’s particular brand of comfort wasn’t the prettiest, but it was what Eijun needed. He closed his hand around Miyuki’s again.
“Thanks,” he said. “Guess I’m back on house arrest until the Warworld gets here.”
It was an agonizing few days, made worse because Eijun really only had Furuya for company. And Eijun liked Furuya, not that he would admit it out loud, but Furuya was content to sit in silence and watch people come and go, and Eijun was...not.
After a few days of going completely stir crazy, it wasn’t surprising that Eijun felt relief when the Warworld became visible next to the moon. At least now they could do something about it.
The Reach was taking the appearance as an opportunity to appear even better to the public, which Eijun knew because Nori always kept at least one screen in the control room tuned to the local news. Eijun was starting to suspect it was some weird form of self-torture, but he couldn’t imagine why.
“Oh, that’s an opportunity,” Ryou commented once, while passing through.
“Yeah, Warworld is a good opportunity for the Reach,” Nori griped. “Now they get to play Earth’s Mightiest Defenders while we’re stuck here actually doing something about it.”
“No, I mean an opportunity for us,” Ryou said. “I’d love to see the Reach ambassador try and claim that ship they have is the only one when we have proof they have an army hidden under the ocean.”
Even Eijun could see where Ryou was heading with that, but unfortunately, they couldn’t do anything about it for now. Because they were busy trying to get the Warworld to turn away.
“I am uninterested in negotiations,” Mongul told them when they managed to open up communications with him. Eijun hadn’t really thought he would be. No one flew a machine called Warworld and wasn’t interested in making war. “The Earth under the control of the Reach is a threat to me. And if you knew what you were in for with them, you’d thank me for putting you out of your misery.”
“Not feeling super grateful,” Ryou quipped.
“I don’t ask for your gratitude,” Mongul said. “You’ll be dead in a few minutes.”
“He’s firing now,” Ryou said, turning to Hal. “Is Dr. Fate here?”
“Dr. Fate? That’s Takako’s dad, right?” Eijun asked. Miyuki nodded.
“Best magician on Earth,” Miyuki said. “He might be the only person who can successfully block a strike from Warworld.”
“The main cannon’s down,” Hal informed them. “Thank you Dr. Fate. That should buy us enough time to put our plan into action.”
“How long can you keep up the shield?” Ryou asked.
“As long as necessary,” Dr. Fate’s voice echoed through the speakers. Eijun shuddered. He barely remembered Dr. Fate back when he’d just been Zatara, Takako’s father. Now he barely sounded human.
“We’ll keep Rocket on you to shield you from the Warworld’s smaller guns,” Ryou promised. “In the meantime, we’re heading in to shut it down.”
Ryou turned to everyone in the room, jaw set grimly.
“I can’t sugarcoat this one,” he said. “There is a good chance people will die up there. But we have to go in anyway, because if we don’t, the Earth is lost. Stay with your squads, watch each other’s backs, and take that damn thing out. You have an hour to say whatever goodbyes you need to.”
Even though Eijun would be on the same squad as Miyuki as always, he still pulled them both away from the main area of the Watchtower, wanting a small bit of privacy from the bustle of the team. He’d had some vague plan of making an impassioned speech, but in the end, he pushed Miyuki against a wall and kissed him like it would be the last time.
Miyuki looked dazed when Eijun pulled away, but his eyes quickly narrowed.
“Don’t kiss me like we’re about to die,” he snapped, shoving at Eijun’s chest, but not enough to push him away. “I’m not gonna die up there, which means you have no excuse, Wonder Brat.”
“Okay,” Eijun said. “I’ll watch your back if you watch mine?”
“That’s how this works,” Miyuki said, and he kissed Eijun again, just a short, sweet peck on the lips. “Don’t forget it again.”
“Roger!”
Eijun expected to have more trouble trying to teleport onto the Warworld, but apparently between Hal Jordan, Ryou, and the technology in Jaime’s blue scarab, they were able to bypass security.
Now came the hard part.
“Everyone sound off,” Nori’s voice came in his ear.
“Alpha squad is all here,” Haruichi’s voice answered. “We’re heading to the center to take down Mongul.”
“Beta squad is all here,” Ryou said. “We’re en route to the crystal key.”
“Gamma squad is all here,” Miyuki answered softly. Eijun nodded firmly at An, who’d joined them. He and Miyuki were the muscle, but she was the brains behind getting the entire thing shut down. “We’re heading for the power core now.”
“Delta squad is in position,” Wakana chimed in. “We’re laying down cover fire for anyone who can fight on the surface.”
“Then move out, and be careful,” Nori said.
Miyuki ran in front, An right behind him, with Eijun covering the rear. Miyuki would be able to take out threats coming at them from the front, while Eijun had to make sure nothing could attack them from behind.
“We’ve been spotted!” Haruichi warned. “Warworld knows we’re here!”
“I’m seeing that, yeah!” Miyuki shouted, which was all the warning Eijun got before he fired off an arrow at something Eijun hadn’t seen yet. It caused an explosion, and now Eijun could see the security drones coming for them. He glanced over his shoulder, but there was nothing on their tail.
Which meant it was time to make sure Miyuki had the distance he needed to do his job.
An hung back, taking out any drones that came near her, as Eijun used his fists and his sword to strike down as many as he could reach. Any that slipped past him immediately fell to Miyuki’s arrows. Eijun couldn’t help grinning. They moved in perfect sync with each other, and they had for a long time.
It was exhilarating.
Soon, the path forward was clear, and the three of them pushed on, following the tube they’d been running down to the power core. It was almost too easy, which was why Eijun wasn’t truly surprised when he turned around to see a hoard of the security drones on their tails.
“You two watch my back,” An said, settling herself in by the power core. “It’s my turn. I’m shutting this down.”
Miyuki sighed, setting his feet and drawing his bow back. He gave Eijun a crooked smile.
“Ready to blast them all away, partner?” he asked. Eijun grinned as he spun his sword in his hand and stepped in front of Miyuki.
“Always.”

5 reasons why autonomous cars aren’t coming anytime soon
PITTSBURGH — In the world of autonomous vehicles, Pittsburgh, Phoenix and Silicon Valley are bustling hubs of development and testing.
The fatal crash in Arizona involving an Uber autonomous vehicle in March of 2018 slowed progress, largely because it hurt the public’s perception of the safety of vehicles. Companies slowed research to be more careful. Google’s Waymo, for instance, decided not to launch a fully autonomous ride-hailing service in the Phoenix area and will rely on human backup drivers to ferry passengers, at least for now.
Here are the problems that researchers must overcome to start giving rides without humans behind the wheel:
——
In some limited areas that have been mapped in three dimensions, the cars can function in light snow and rain.
——
——
——
LEFT TURNS
Deciding when to turn left in front of oncoming traffic without a green arrow is one of the more difficult tasks for human drivers and one that causes many crashes. Autonomous vehicles have the same trouble.
Waymo CEO John Krafcik said in an interview last year that his company’s vehicles are still encountering occasional problems at intersections.
“I think the things that humans have challenges with, we’re challenged with as well,” he said. “So sometimes unprotected lefts are super challenging for a human, sometimes they’re super challenging for us.”
——
CONSUMER ACCEPTANCE
The fatal Uber crash near Phoenix last year did more than push the pause button on testing. It also rattled consumers who someday will be asked to ride in self-driving vehicles.
Surveys taken after the Uber crash showed that drivers are reluctant to give up control to a computer. One by AAA in March found 71 per cent of people are afraid to ride in fully self-driving vehicles.
