Census of Hyrule 100 years post-calamity
Here are my final numbers! I've separated the population by tower region for convenience, and then further into towns, stables, and rural (neither). NPCs with no set location (such as Beetle and Pikango) and travelers who use the roads are grouped under Greater Hyrule. NPCs who change location due to plot have been counted under their final location. Koroks, Great Fairies, and the Yiga were excluded. Link was not. Please note that this includes travelers who are clearly not residents, because usually there's no hint of where they actually live.
Greater Hyrule: 48
12 at large and 36 on the roads.
Hateno Tower Region: 40
36 in Hateno village and 4 rural.
Faron Tower Region: 19
4 at Lakeside Stable, 12 in Lurelin Village, and 3 rural.
Lake Tower Region: 8
4 at Highland Stable and 4 rural.
Dueling Peaks Tower Region: 26
8 at Dueling Peaks Stable, 15 in Kakariko Village, and 3 rural.
Lanayru Tower Region: 37
5 at Wetland Stable and 32 in Zora's Domain.
Eldin Tower Region: 33
3 at Foothill Stable, 22 in Goron Village, 5 at the Southern Mine, and 3 at Gut Check Rock.
Wasteland Tower Region: 90
7 at Gerudo Canyon Stable, 10 at Kara Kara Bazaar, 65 in Gerudo Town, and 8 rural.

The settlement of Lake Illumeni
One of my favourite pastimes in breath of the wild is looking at useless details so if you're into that, let's go look at the settlement of Lake Illumeni together!
Lake Illumeni is located in the ridgeland region, just north of gerudo highlands, south of the tabantha frontier and right next to Illumeni Plateau. Surrounding the lake we have five old houses. I took the liberty of getting rid of any enemies before filming so let's go take a look at this peaceful little neighbourhood!
Ignore my lackluster editing skills please. As you can see all the houses are in pretty bad shape, there's no real hint as to why. There was an Ice wizzrobe roaming the area but I don't know if that really indicates anything.
So this is one of the more mysterious settlements I've seen, as it doesn't give a lot of hints about who lived here and why.
Tumblr media
I didn't want to go too far from the lake, so I went as far as the nearest "thing" I could find. All the locations were pretty far by foot, this is truly a secluded settlement. To the west there was really nothing but an enemy camp of bokoblins. To the north there were a few groves of trees and beyond that a group of bokoblins on horses. The skull marker to the north is a Lynel. To the east we had more groves and some moblins, and an old broken carriage!
Tumblr media
On Illumeni Plateau there was nothing but a stone Talus. And lastly to the south there's a rift in the mountain facing the gerudo highlands, in this area I found that a few moblins and bokoblins had built some wooden structures and were guarding towards north, but I didn't find much of importance there either, at least not close by.
Tumblr media
During the evening, the little grove around the lake became filled with fireflies and some other wildlife.
So who were these people, and why choose such a remote location to live in? It is unlikely that they used the relatively nearby Tamio river for transport, as the way down to the water is very steep. One strange detail though was that I couldn't find any fish in the lake at all. There were two octoroks, but no fish. Could this be a sign that the people of Illumeni fished until the lake was empty, and then moved to somewhere else? Well, who knows. In any case, a very pretty settlement that once was someones home.

I know it sounds like I'm making this up, but Ray the dragon has been an OC of mine since before Sunset Shimmer's pet gecko was ever revealed. He was always yellow and he always had that name.
Since the universe clearly meant for this to happen, I decided to just roll with it and make his design match that of the gecko. I didn't have to change very much at all.
Ray is the father of Caldera, making him the biological grandfather of Smolder and Garble. He commanded the Ridgelands as its Alpha (of the first rank) until the region merged with the Green Valley region. He has also been Torch's best friend and most trusted ally basically since Torch became the Dragon Lord, for better or worse; Ray doesn't always have the best advice but he means well.
Torch was a wildly unpopular leader at the beginning of his reign. He had revolutionary ideas that didn't sit well with many of his subjects, especially those who were older and in positions of power. Ray took a liking to the young visionary, though, and it's thanks to him that Torch survived his first couple of centuries as Dragon Lord. He continues to call Torch "little brother" despite the former being much larger than he is now. Ray himself was rather disliked by many of the same dragons who couldn't stand Torch and they often referred to him as "the banana".
In general Ray's heart is the right place, even when his methods can be questionable at times. He has a very laid-back personality. He doesn't take himself too seriously and loves to make terrible jokes, much to his best friend's chagrin. He can be fairly slow to figure things out and is very impressed by how smart Torch is, taking his word for just about everything. Non-verbal cues or things that are implied but not directly stated often go over his head, so he appreciates his little brother from another mother's uncharacteristic patience with him very much. Everyone thinks he's insane and they're not entirely wrong about that.
In spite of his small stature and feeble appearance, Ray is quite strong and athletic. He is still one of dragonkind's fiercest warriors despite his age. He is also blessed with incredibly good luck, which rubs off on the dragons he surrounds himself with. He likes ponies and doesn't see why the other dragons despise them so much. The only time he had an issue with them was when they put Caldera in harm's way as a baby dragon, but he never held it against ponykind as a whole.

But then came the War to End All Wars, also known as the Blood Rebellion, when the fifteen provinces, led by the Sheikah of Province 3, the Dueling Peaks Province, decided to turn on the Central Republic. The people waged a war that culminated in the brutal assassination of the beloved Queen Zelda XIII—and subsequently her child, the unborn heir to the throne. After this, the Central Republic proceeded to completely obliterate the Sheikah—“to ensure the safety and security of the rest of our people,” the history books say—and the rest of the provinces were quickly routed and pacified, allowing the Central Republic easy access to take back their control over the kingdom.
The finalized world map for The Lost Children.

BOTW SHEIKAH TOWERS: RANKED BY HOW HOT THEY ARE
this is. not a good ranking. but surprisingly there r some very sexy towers so whaddya know 👀
Tumblr media
the starting point,,,, the og,,,, the great plateau tower! this tower is a pretty easy climb, tho the whole like... almost killing u and sending rocks flying everywhere n shit is :(( lots of footholds look nice and all the water surrounding it is pretty. not to mention this is the tower u can climb and see ALL of hyrule on so its definitely good 6/10 not the sexiest tower but it has a lot to offer. i believe in it
Tumblr media
the fact its on the other side of a huge fuckoff river that i always die trying to swim across makes the dueling peaks tower really piss me off but it looks rlly pretty next to it. still, its like. not a hard climb, but if u fall off ur basically fucked. the nearby bokoblin camp also makes me want to chug bleach so! 4/10 its hard to live up to the great plateau tower and frankly its not doing a good job of it. cringe tower next to the fail river
Tumblr media
ok look. its normally not that bad! but i did the hateno tower for the first time whilst i was off my ass on malibu and my god did i have a bad time. the thorns,,, the lack of stamina,,, and im not exactly a tactical player either, so. ruined the tower for me a bit. its very aesthetic sitting up on the hill tho very nice very neat. very majestic. 5/10 thorns are sexy but not when you’re drunk :(
Tumblr media
thanks google for giving me only the lowest quality res of lanayru tower. tbh im biased against this tower bc it rains every time i try and climb it so FUCK it. its a good looking tower tho?? its a bit lopsided but i think it gives it character! hey if italy can make it work,,, 6/10 lanayru region has a wat but thats all its got to offer
Tumblr media
hm! fuck this tower! okay ignoring literally everything about ridgeland tower, its pretty! the lake surrounding it,,,, its very prim. even the wizzrobes make it look kinda nice. its a sexy tower but thats literally all its got going for it bc climbing it is an atrocious nightmare! 7/10 its like the rlly hot girl at school who has the personality of a tire fire
Tumblr media
ill be honest i dont remember much of akkala citadel tower aside from the fact it was guardian central and i only climbed it literally after i beat ganon LMAO. truly its the chad of all towers. but sitting on the very top of the citadel,,,, surrounded by all the nice trees,,, it looks like it rlly belongs there. the malice at the bottom doesnt even look good tho. sorry dude who said this was the sexiest tower- its not :( 7/10 everyone tough until the trees start beeping
Tumblr media
u know what i rlly like eldin tower. its kinda cozy lookin in the rock and the volcano in the background is pleasantly menacing. its abt as far as u can go without getting crispy, so its one hot ass tower. its got guts. ambition. its a tower i can respect. 5/10 not perfect but a cute addition. shes doing her best.
Tumblr media
now THIS is a sexy tower excuse the poor quality image BUT wow,,,, woodland tower,,, this tower could be on fire and breaking down and it would still look hot. even tho its standing in a monster camp it rlly rocks it. the skull on the top,,,, this tower is the goth of all the towers, especially since its so close to hyrule castle. 8/10 this tower likes 2 accessorize
Tumblr media
the hebra tower is VERY pretty,,, the blue rlly matches the snow everywhere so u know the tower has good colour coordination,,,,all the ice at the bottom is also cute. annoying but cute. very prim. its like the tsundere of towers. 9/10 chilly until u get 2 know her,,,
Tumblr media
,,,,, well. i like it, at least. all the ruins around it rlly brings out its, uh ... malice. and in fairness they offer a quick way up there so this towers got backup plans for u. it cares for u. tabantha tower may be covered in malice but it makes it look Good. it rocks it. it works. 6/10 you did your best considering the circumstances
Tumblr media
gerudo tower,,, its by far one of the sexiest. it just descends into the ground forever. the open space around it. the spiral mountain. the few and far between footholds. kass sitting on top. i like everything about this tower. visually, that is. climbing it is an absolute ballache of a chore. but its worth it,,,, for this tower,,, 9/10 if i could marry a tower,,, i probably wouldnt marry this one. good try tho.
Tumblr media
hebra tower is hard to beat but central tower doesnt actually look That bad. the footholds that go all spirally up look rlly nice, and all the ruins around it is tres good. u get to see everything from the centre of hyrule which is rlly nice positioning. the guardians? hm. rlly ruin the atmos. it sits there and looks rlly pretty for when u get off the plateau and then BANG guardian laser. betrayal. i love u,,, but i can never forgive u,,, 6/10  this thing probably has laser marks all over it but hey just think of it as sexy battle scars,,,
Tumblr media
hh i dont even remember this one tbh but i think its the lake tower and thats like. in faron. shows how much i care about it. if i remember right it keeps raining when i try and climb this tower so. i have a bias. i think its average tbh. the rainforest around it is SUPER nice until lit everything tries 2 kill u so. its a safe haven in a dangerous forest. it means well. 4/10 sweet but not hot. stop getting me struck by lightning.
Tumblr media
this is one windy bitch! the wasteland tower! the footholds r all up at the top which is kind of a look but its surrounded by a swamp which,,, hm. not the sexiest choice. if i was trying to attract someone i probably wouldnt sit in a puddle of shit but u do u boo. 5/10 it looks nice on the top of a mountain but the functionality is dogshit
conclusion: theyre fucking towers idk why i rated these it was hard and i hate everything

i nominate Satori Mountain for coolest area in BotW. I just took the time to really explore it for the first time since I started the game, and... wow. It's huge. There's so much stuff there. Obviously you've got the shrine, the Stalnox, and the pond where the Lord of the Mountain appears. But there's also so many little sub-areas. There's a forest that's home to every type of mushroom, and another with every type of herb. There's a grove where you can literally farm hundreds of apples, and another where you can rack up hearty durians. There's several hidden chests and at least a dozen koroks. And it's just such a beautiful-looking area too?? Anyway I've been sleeping on the Ridgeland region in general but Satori Mountain is especially excellent like... wow

The Pirate Prince Chapter 16
The Pirate Prince
Chapter 16: The Quest begins
“IT’S BEEN WHAT?!” Came Impaya’s shout, making the various crowd members flinch, before the Sheikah Matriarch threw her doors and stormed down the steps, rage practically sparking off her.
“Where is Yigia?” Impaya grit out, her eyes narrowed.
“He said he had business at the shrine.” Said Kado, as he sharpened an arrowhead, “He said he didn’t want to be disturbed.”
Impaya reached forwards and grabbed Kado by the lapels of his coat, “Bring. Him. Here. Now.”
Kado was silent, before he placed two fingers in his mouth and blew. A lone falcon flew down from the sky and landed on his arm, Kado made a strange jerk with his head, prompting the bird to fly off towards the shrine behind the fairy fountain. Kado turned and faced Impaya, “He’ll be here by noon.”
Impaya gave Kado a glare that could melt steel, before she turned on her heel and stalked towards the graveyard.
“Who’s Yigia?” Whispered Link, leaning towards Zelda.
“Yigia is the grave keeper,” Said Impa, not looking at Link, “The Royal graves are the only graves that are built to be maintained, if the tomb has fallen into such a state that a monster could inhabit it without our notice, it would be a form of desecration that even the Yiga Clan could not ignore.”
“And Yigia is the grave keeper?” Asked Link, making Impa turn towards him.
“Yes, he’s also supposed to be at the Graves at all times, unless he has permission otherwise.” Responded Impa, before an arrow flew towards Zelda.
Impa grabbed the arrow out of the air and launched it back towards it’s origin point. The Arrow fell short, but it had the intended effect of making everyone look at the attacker. A Shiekah with an upside down Shiekah Tattoo snarled at the group, before notching another arrow and losing it at Zelda. Impa caught the arrow, before throwing at knife at the attack. The knife hit home and the attacker fell forwards with a sickening thud.
“Who,” Said Link, “was that?”
“That, was Yigia.” Said Impaya, flipping the corpse over with her foot, “Treacherous slimeball.”
A thunderous scream broke the air. Link gazed upwards, before spotting Skyloft, his wings arched above the village. And then he left, his giant wings creating a massive gust of air that knocked everyone down. Link could’ve sworn that he heard Skyloft singing.
“I don’t understand.” Said Zelda, after a moments silence, “He could’ve destroyed the entire village, but chose to spare it.”
“He was fighting.” Said Impa, narrowing her eyes, “At least we know that they aren’t acting on their own accord.”
TPP
The screaming grew louder, He could barely keep his balance as he flew. He spotted Mare and Viribus stalking around Hyrule Field. Oh, how he longed to speak with them once more, but he felt the curse taking over again.
No where in the fifteen regions and five kingdoms would be safe if he allowed the darkness to take hold. The oldest of the Guards felt weary, he flew towards the great gate. The sword must be protected.
TPP
Link checked the travelling pack on Epona. The dark brown mare huffed towards her rider, butting her head against his shoulder as she started to circle him. Link ran his hand down her face, he felt, without Epona, he’d be lost.
Link kept his ears open, the Princess’s safety was in his hands, Impaya made that all too clear. He heard Zelda come up behind him.
“Are you ready?” Asked Link, turning to face his friend.
“As I’ll ever be.” Said Zelda, quietly, “Impaya believes that we should go to each of the regions, reunite Hyrule before taking the Castle back.”
“A wise strategy,” Said Link, before moving to check Arawn’s pack. Arawn was a white stallion that was descended from the same white stallion that was found by the Hero of the Wild, “No one in Hyrule would dare turn away their Queen.”
“Link,” Said Zelda, quietly, “we both know they won’t see me as their Queen.”
“The Rito, Zora, Gorons, Sheikah, Gerudo and Kokiri do,” Responded Link, counting them off on his fingers, “That’s six out of fifteen. So, I think we’re going great.”
“The Lord of Akkala barely stood by my mother, the Lord of Hateno and Faron are both dead with no heirs, Hebra, Ridgeland, Lake and Central Lords would rather see me married off and we’re not counting the lesser lords in Lanayru, Eldin, Tabantha and Woodlands.”
Link stopped and looked at Zelda, who was hugging herself, “Zelda, they’re old men, who’d rather live in the past than actually help themselves or the others around them. Yes, the Wolves of the Forests and the Hunters of the plains are gone, but we may find what remains of them. Zel, we’re going to have to keep fighting, even if we don’t go to the Lords, the Colossi and whoever is controlling them are hunting you and anyone with the blood of the Goddess until their dying day.”
Zelda looked at Link, “When did you become so wise?”
“I had a really shitty week, Princess.” Said Link, leaning against Zelda’s horse, “By the way, where did the name ‘Tetra’ come from?”
Zelda blushed and scratched the back of her head, “It’s my middle name.”
“You told me you didn’t have a middle name.” Said Link, folding his arms.
“I lied, my middle name is Tetra,” Said Zelda, blushing, “You know, after the one that rediscovered Hyrule before the seas receded?”
“The same one who was the wife of the Hero of Winds?” Asked Link, raising his eyebrows.
Zelda nodded, before looking at Arawn and stared, “What the hell did you do to my horse?”
Link looked proud of himself, “You like it? It took me two hours to fully plait his mane.”
“He looks ridiculous!” Protested Zelda, her hands going to her hair, “No one is going to take me seriously if my horse looks like he belongs in a show!”
“Isn’t that what a Parade is?” Snarked Link, before Zelda hit him with the map, “Okay, not funny, but seriously, where we’re going, they are going to look at him and see him as a Royal Stallion fit enough for the Queen of Hyrule.”
“I’m not a Queen, Link.” Said Zelda, shaking her head softly.
“That’s how they’re going to see you, Zelda,” Said Link, stepping closer and placing his hand on her shoulder, “They see your parents as dead and the Royal court with them. They’d jump as a chance to aid their monarch.”
Zelda looked up at him, “Hateno is overrun with monsters, Faron is rife with infighting and betrayals and the Guardian Protectors of this land are against us. Link, if we’re going to have any chance of swaying them, we’re going to need the Master Sword.”
“And to get that, we’re going to need the Tokens of the Goddesses.” Said Link, leaning against Epona.
“We already have one,” Said Zelda, gesturing to the bag that held Farore’s Pearl, “The other two are in Hebra and Eldin.”
“And Lord Arnold hasn’t stood with the Royal Family since your mother married your father.” Said Link, folding his arms, “And the Lord of Akkala isn’t known for his hospitality.”
“After what he did to the Wolves and the Hunters?” Asked Zelda, sarcastically.
“But he is your grandfather.” Said Link, straightening up, “That may convince him to allow us to cross his lands.”
Zelda was silent, in truth, she didn’t know how the Lord of Akkala would react to her presence, he barely acknowledged her existence and when he did, it was always to ask why she hadn’t been married off.
There was a scream, making Link and Zelda look towards the north entrance to Kakariko, and both immediately wishing they hadn’t. On a lone horse, was the beheaded corpse, with a giant bird’s head pinned through the body where the head would be. Kado grabbed the horse by the reigns and cut the body free and carefully lowing it to the ground.
“It’s Stritch.” Said Kado, before looking at the bird’s head.
Impaya approached the horse and looked at the markings on the saddle.
“This horse came from Akkala.” Said the Matriarch, her red eyes narrowing.
Link and Zelda watched as Kado, finally, removed the bird’s head.
“And this,” Said Kado, grimly, “is definitely a Loftwing.”
The silence echoed through the village; the implication clear as crystal. The Lord of Akkala now stood against Hyrule.

Link ducked behind a rock, he had joined Kado and a few others in tracking down the Akkalan soldiers, finding them terrorising a village. Courage hummed in his hand, making Link look down at the Sword, Zelda had suggested naming the swords they’d both been given. Link saw Kado notch an arrow, before taking aim at the soldiers.
Link vaulted over the rock, slipping his shield beneath his feet and surfing down to the bottom of the hill, just as Kado’s arrow struck a soldier in the neck. Two others fell to Link, after he rammed courage through one’s chest and removed another’s head. Link spotted two more Soldier’s trying to get away.
An arrow struck one in the back and another struck the second through the back of the knee. Link looked over at Kado, who pointed behind him. Link turned and looked up the hill, spotting Zelda at the top, an ancient bow clasped in her hand.
Link turned around and looked at the surviving soldier, now desperately trying to crawl away. Link and Kado quickly made their way over to him. The soldier grunted as Link kicked him and forced him onto his back.
Zelda watched on as Link and Kado interrogated the soldier. She didn’t hear what they said, but Link took a step back and brought Courage down on the soldier’s head. Zelda glared at the corpses, before turning around and returned to Kakariko. Link watched as the Soldier’s blood drained from his body. He didn’t know his name, but he had met him when his father took him and Aryll to the Castle.
Link and the other warriors followed Zelda back into the village. Link stopped and looked at the shield on one of the soldier’s backs. Picking the shield up, Link examined it. It was circular and looked like it was made of wood, but, at its base, it was steel. Link knew what the wood was for. Noticing that he was falling behind, Link ran back up the hill.
Link saw Zelda by the horses, double checking the supplies he’d packed. Link was a few feet behind Zelda, when she said, “Are you ready to go?”
“I’d follow you into the depths of darkened lands.” Said Link, earning him a small smile from Zelda.
“Then, let’s be off.” Said Zelda, climbing onto Arawn’s back and settling herself into the saddle.
Link followed suit, before gently spurring Epona forwards. As he and Zelda passed, blossom petals were thrown on the ground in front of them. Link smiled, knowing that the village was wishing them luck.
“To Hebra?” Asked Link, looking back at Zelda, before she drew level with him.
“To Hebra.” Confirmed Zelda, a determined look in her eyes.
Link grinned, before spurring Epona into a gallop.
