Just thinking about how Robert uses people made me think of Nicola and how it never mentioned/touched upon, I mean she pretty much preyed on him, took his virginity and then dumped him, and was the first girl he liked? I think that would screw someone up a bit when comes to relationships as well as his daddy issues and his adoptive brother killing his mum figure who he feels his dad favours, I do actually wonder if that why he drawn to likes of Sadie and maybe Rebecca women who play him as much as tries he plays them and in Sadie case another woman who used him for sex, and destroyed his relationship with Katie because he got scared it become too real? I mean loads of people like Robert loved Katie yes but i do not think it a retcon his main attraction to Katie was because she was with Andy. I think you can love someone but also use them at the same time. I think Chrissie again he loved her but cheated on her twice but main attraction to her was status, money etc, with Aaron i feel he just saw him a play thing and never planned to fall for him which i feel is why he treated him with such distain because he first person he fell for with not ulterior reasons.
didn't nicola mention it once in the beginning of Ryan!Robert? and I thought Katie was the first girl he ever liked? It's what you keep telling me.
but as i've said many times before - i only started watching robron from ssw16 and the whole show not until around the first wedding. I don't know anything about things that happened before that. Especially not teen!Robert.
and honestly - i'm not the person you want to talk to for deep meaningful character studies. I'm just here to have fun.
Robron to me only exist in fics and tumblr shitposts and random headcanons - and other fanworks. Emmerdale has nothing to do with them anymore. It's just a show i bitch about for half an hour a day - and an hour on thursday.

for @aarondingel and @dairxoxo:
aaron finds it hard to tell robert how he feels, it took him months and months to finally say ‘i love you’ aloud - but that doesn’t mean he didn’t want to say it, he just couldn’t find the right way so whenever he wanted to aaron would write it down, do a little tally and keep reminding himself of how much he does love robert.
the older man finds it one day, once their married and things slow down, it’s buried under the bed and at first he has no clue what it’s about but then he reads the dates, they trace all the way back to 2015 and he sees the writing underneath, all the tally lines that clutter page after page and the countless ‘i love you’s that are messily written in aaron’s writing. he has to catch his breath and smile, hands a little shaky as he understands, is reminded of how much aaron’s always loved him. always.
It starts with a fight, well a row really, over absolutely nothing and everything at the same time.
They’d been in the pub, Robert had been a bit handsy after having too many  and Aaron hadn’t been in the mood for it. But they’d caught Leyla’s attention and it didn’t take long for the teasing to begin.
“Oh look at ya both.” Leyla had said, a smile on her face as she watched Robert smile even wider, genuinely just happy to be sitting in the pub with his husband, hand firmly on the younger man’s thigh. “You look so loved up.” She said, her eyes almost softening.
Robert attempted to kiss at Aaron’s jaw but the younger man pulled away, sprouted an excuse about Robert having too many as he pulled a hand through his sweaty hair and admired the way he had rolled up his blue shirt.
Robert frowned, it made him feel weird inside but Leyla hardly noticed the dismissive way Aaron had just behaved. Instead she just smiled again, maybe tipsy herself.
“I mean - that’s love isn’t it?” She said, watching Robert look up still almost adoringly at his husband.
“Well we are aren’t we?” Robert tilted his head up towards Aaron. “In love?” He said softly, watched Aaron look down towards his pint like he hasn’t even heard.
Robert gulped, felt himself start to sober up as the silence dragged on. “I love him.” He said, almost to himself before he was getting up and practically running out the pub.
Now he is in the kitchen, attempting to twist open a bottle of whiskey or gin or anything else brown he finds in the bottom cupboard. He doesn’t know where Aaron is, didn’t look back as he stormed out feeling like someone had just slapped him round the face, like his husband had just slapped him round the face.
The door slams and Robert wills himself not to look up, not to even pay attention to him at all.
“Why’d you run off like that?” It’s Aaron’s voice, he sounds worried, almost a little confused.
Then he steps forward and comes closer towards where Robert is standing, where he is finally slamming a glass down and necking back whatever it is he opened. It’s scotch he thinks. It burns his throat, makes him shake his head involuntarily.
“Robert?” Aaron gulps hard, doesn’t want to do this, doesn’t want to have an argument.
“I’m going to bed.” Robert snaps, steps forward and attempts to swiftly pick up the bottle before moving towards the stairs. He misses and the bottle shatters across the floor making him swear.
“Let me do that.” Aaron’s voice is too kind, to gentle and Robert backs away.
“Go away.” Robert says, “Go back to the pub or -”
Aaron blinks, suddenly holds Robert’s arm and sees just how upset he is. “Rob? What’s wrong with ya?”
Robert straightens his back, “Me?” His eyes widen. “It’s you with the issue, I mean - God it’s so clear you don’t even like me let alone love me eh?”
Aaron’s eyes widen then, his heart hammers in his chest and he has to shake his head. “Robert don’t be stupid.”
Robert scoffs. “Just admit it. I mean - it’s true isn’t it? You couldn’t bare saying you loved your own husband in the pub just then?” It’s scary, how quickly his eyes become wet. “Because you don’t.”
Aaron sighs. “Look just because I don’t say it every five seconds doesn’t mean that I don’t.” He snaps, knows where this is heading already. “Stop being so ridiculous.”
That burns, it stings and Robert feels like a little boy. “Do you not even care how I feel?” He thought Aaron did, he thought they’d finally worked everything out, he thought they were sorted for life now.
Aaron pinches his nose, wants to take his words back. “I’m sorry if I embarrassed ya.” He says, knows that he should have said something in the pub but he still isn’t good at being so overly affectionate and honest like that.
“You didn’t embarrass me. You hurt me. I embarrassed you though didn’t I?” Robert blinks, gulps and tries to stop feeling so upset.
Aaron bites his lip, “Rob you know I’m not good at - feelings and saying that stuff.” He says, lowers his head.
“And I’m the expert?” Robert retaliates. “I think you’re forgetting the closet case I was when we first met. I think you’re forgetting everything I did just so I didn’t have to tell you I was in love with you.”
Aaron hasn’t, he knows that just sitting in a pub saying he loves his husband is a lot for Robert, is more than he ever thought possible. “I know, look Robert I’m sorry.” He tries, doesn’t know if it will work as Robert stands there still looking bruised by the words. “You know how I feel. You always have done.”
Robert’s chin wobbles. “I’ve always guessed.” He says, voice hollow, void of love and passion. “Never been certain.”
Aaron’s hand is shaking, “Where - where is this coming from?” He’s scared suddenly, doesn’t want Robert to feel like this. “Robert you know I love you.” He comes forward, dodges the shards of glass and then holds Robert by the arms, shakes him a little. “You know.”
Robert forces his head up and looks at Aaron’s eyes, wide and scared and filled with worry. “Say it then. It should be easy. It should be really easy after all this time.”
Aaron’s mouth falls open, he leans forward and then he’s crouching back into himself as he smells the alcohol on Robert’s breath, the scotch. It takes him back, takes him right back and he’s suddenly needing a moment and moving away.
The next thing he knows Robert is charging past him, storming up the stairs and he’s standing in the kitchen wishing he’d just said it.
Robert falls on the bed, can’t tell if he’s being dramatic or not as he starts to cry into his pillow. It’s awful, the feeling inside, because it festers and he’s doubting everything because Aaron can’t even say he loves him anymore and he was sure they were solid. He was so certain up until a few hours ago.
Robert has a hand in his pocket, digs out his phone and scrolls through the messages from Aaron.
You:
‘I love you, see you tonight. Xx’
Aaron:
'You too, can’t wait. X’
It stings. It’s another example isn’t it? He just can’t say it back, and Robert can’t do that anymore. He can’t live like that.
He rolls over, decides to charge his phone and then drops the charger on the floor. Wandering hands attempt to pick it up and then he’s fishing under the bed, meeting something hard and square and then he’s pulling it out.
It’s dusty, had been buried under things maybe, and it has a brown leather front which has worn away a little.
He knows it’s not his, can’t think of it as Aaron’s either as he opens it up and realises it’s a diary of some sort.
There’s a tally drawn down the pages, and then another one and another one.
There’s big bold letters: I LOVE YOU plastered on crinkled pages.
Robert raises an eyebrow, confusion running through him as he reads and then sights Aaron’s messy handwriting, it’s sprawled out across the page and it says:
'I love you, I love you Robert.’
Robert’s heart bursts.
He tries hard to catch his breath and fails over and over again, a hand comes up over his mouth and he feels like he’s floating or something.
His eyes catch sight of dates.
2015 - the year of Hell. The year where he captured Aaron’s heart, kissed it and then destroyed it completely.
There were so many confessions around April time, where Robert was a dick, a massive ridiculous dick.
Robert turns the page over and is overwhelmed by how many appear as he recognises the year - 2016.
When everything was hard and sad and tense between them, when Aaron pushed Robert away countless times, told him to go away, told him he didn’t have space in his head to think about him.
He still loved him though. He’d still right it down.
Robert feels a tear roll down his face and he sniffs quietly before hugging the book and shaking his head.
“It was always easier doing that.”
There’s a voice by the door and when he turns Aaron’s standing there, he’s got tears in his eyes and his green jumper is being pulled up over his arms.
“Couldn’t tell you how I felt, so I wrote it down.” Aaron comes closer, steps into the room and then kneels by Robert who is sitting on the bed.
“You’ve always loved me?” It’s ridiculous, Robert should know but he doesn’t, not really.
Aaron nods his head, starts rubbing over Robert’s knees with his palm. “Yes.” He whispers, “It’s always been hard though, letting you know so I wanted to remind myself of how much I did.”
Robert shudders and there’s a small smile on his face. “That’s the sweetest thing -" He’s almost blushing as he speaks and Aaron buries his head in Robert’s knee to avoid the softness.
Robert has a hand on Aaron’s fluffy hair and he kisses at his curls. "I had no idea.” He whispers, “I didn’t know you still loved me when - you know, during the whole trial.”
Aaron raises his head, sniffs. “More than I wanted to admit.” He remembers how it was, how Robert was just this guiding light throughout such a darkness. He touches Robert’s face and sighs. “I didn’t say it just now because - I smelt the scotch on you.”
Robert shuts his eyes. He wants to hit himself.
He knows what that means, he knows that the smell reminds his husband of those nights where his bedroom door would creep open and he’d hide from -
“I’m so sorry.” Robert blurts out, has a hand on Aaron’s chest and shakes his head. “Fuck, I’m sorry.” He says again but Aaron’s kissing his hand and shaking his head.
“Don’t be daft.” Aaron whispers before standing up and sitting next to his husband on the bed. “Robert, look at me.” Robert does, slowly and then all at once. “I love you.”
It’s heavy in the air and then it melts, finds its way into Robert’s heart and stays.
Aaron has a shaky hand over Robert’s. “I always have, I always will be in love with you.”
That makes Robert smile, there’s something so much more in the way he adds ’in love’.
“I’m sorry for not telling you enough, not letting you know enough.” Aaron darts his head down. “I’m still working on it. But I’m not ashamed or anything like that okay?” He wasn’t ashamed just then in the pub, he was just - not used to it, wants to be. He wants to snog Robert’s face off and shout how much he loves him but he’s scared, that actually scares him a little. But he knows he doesn’t have to be, he knows that his husband is his husband and he’ll always be there to help him.
“Okay.” Robert sniffs before looking at Aaron, at his blue eyes that shine almost like crystals in the moonlight. “I love you too.” He whispers, before he falls into Aaron and kisses him sloppily on the lips.
Aaron pulls away, looks at the book that Robert still holds near him. “That’s so embarrassing.” He reddens. “You were *never supposed to find that.”
Robert smirks, has a hand on Aaron’s jumper. “Why not?” He says, “And why did you keep it?”
Aaron bites his lip, he remembers thinking about chucking it when they moved into the mill because he never wrote in it anymore. “Whenever you’re a pillock, it reminds me of how much I love ya really.” He shrugs flippantly but Robert knows that it means more than that.
“Good.” Robert mumbles before pulling at Aaron’s jeans and smiling up at him. “Love you.” He says again. “You know I say it because I mean it every time, it’s not a throw away thing for me.” He’s suddenly serious and Aaron nods his head, he believes that.
“I know.” Aaron whispers before kissing Robert and pulling off his husband’s shirt with ease.
Robert’s on his back, Aaron’s over him and his heart still races like it’s their first night with each other, after all this time.
“Come on then Mr. Sugden, show me just how much those tallies really mean.” Robert huffs out, winking and then Aaron’s rolling his eyes and knowing just how to shut up his cocky bastard of a husband.

For ur Robron headcanons if you could bless us with Serial Killer Robron i would be very grateful 💜 no pressure
Robert and Aaron’s biggest fear is losing each other, especially to prison. Beating people up or killing others, especially those who deserve it is not a problem, as long as they don't lose each other. Husbands, best friends, partners for life, and partners in crime. The two of them are what one would call antiheroes, they take down the bad guys. Some people close to them call them Murder Husbands, they are at times accompanied by Charity and Moira who are affectionately called mafia wives.
The first time it happened was when Syd McFarlane kidnapped Aaron and blackmailed them for $100,000 after they broke Adam out of prison and he was broken out as well. They made sure that the charges were dropped against Adam. Syd, however, was going to ruin everything and he threatened Aaron. Charity found a way to get the money and came with Robert. Moira brought the shotgun for protection. Syd was homophobic and sexist so Moira shot him. Aaron and Robert ensured that they were dead. Syd was never found and since the Mcfarlane family didn't care about him no one went looking for him. The four of them had a pack no one removes them from their spouse and they keep their family safe always. Family is the most important thing to them.
That money that was stolen was split 50/50. Robert and Aaron celebrated by having sex on the money. That was a thrill for them that they have never experienced before. Since family is first they split the money with their family and was also a way for them to pay for the surrogate. Just because they have done some dark things does not mean they are bad dads. Aaron and Robert were truly looking forward to having a baby.
In March 2019 Aaron and Robert were happy they had a baby through surrogacy that they named Annie Grace. Aaron’s mum was also pregnant again. Suddenly Paddy’s biological dad rocked up into town and tried to ruin everything. He destroyed Grace’s memorial garden and almost dropped Annie Grace when Paddy let him hold her. He also kept telling Aaron what to do when he was trying to fix her memorial garden. Aaron asked Robert if he minded if he killed Bear. The two of them made sure Bear never came back to bother their family. They will always look out for their family first. Their daughter is the most important person in the world to them and they will protect her from everything.
In April 2019 they went out into town to celebrate Robert’s birthday. Victoria also came with them, Adam couldn't make it because he had to go on an overnight business trip for the scrapyard. During the night they all got separated. Vic was taken home by a guy who then raped her. Vic told them she was raped and pregnant. Adam was going to raise it as his own. Moira, Charity, Aaron, and Robert were not happy. When Wendy came to stalk Vic at work Charity kicked her out. She told Robert what happened. Lee then started to intimidate her and kept breaking into Aaron and Robert's home. The four of them decided enough was enough. Lee had to die. Moira was going to play the seductress, Charity would play bartender at her friend’s pub. Aaron and Robert would take the rapist down. Moira very easily seduced him and took him by the river. Aaron and Robert took him down and got rid of him. They made it look like a suicide and that he was full of remorse for raping women. Murder husbands and mafia wives celebrated that evening for ridding the world of evil. Wendy kept trying to intimidate her, Charity took care of her.
Mandy comes to Charity to help her steal from casinos. She is happy to be part of this operation. She lets the others know and Aaron and Robert successfully take part of the share since Mandy was playing poor and stealing from the family. They would always take care of their family, they had Liv and Annie Grace to look after plus Vic and her new baby. As is every time they successfully steal money from someone they threw it around the floor and had sex on it. They successfully stole a car and destroyed it and had sex in it before they destroyed it.
Crime turns them on. While they hate the thought of either of them going to prison and consider it their worst nightmare. They love taking out the bad guys and protecting their families. They will always protect Liv, Annie Grace, his sisters, and friends. They also love each other and no one will ever come between them or separate them. Husbands for life, best friends for life, partners for life, partners in crime.

Fire & Rescue Au.
robert is a fireman, has been for years. after his mum died he was petrified of fire, but more than that he wanted to save people - didn’t want any other kids losing their parents the way robert had lost sarah. so as soon as he was old enough he joined the leeds fire department training team.
he’s 4 years into the job, training mostly complete and a respected member of the firefighter’s community when he meets aaron. they’re called out to some university halls and robert’s stomach sinks, because he knows this isn’t going to be pretty.
when he gets there it’s complete chaos, there’s young people everywhere, in pyjamas or next to nothing at all. and robert can only turn that into a positive - the number of people surrounding the building means there mustn’t be many left inside.
only this lad, one with a thick yorkshire accent and a head of dark curls is screaming about his mate being trapped inside. robert rushed into the building, climbs the seven flights of stairs as directed and breaks down the door to room 3 down. he finds the boy, aaron he learns, sat in the corner of his room, half hidden under the desk and shaking with fear. it takes him a while to get aaron out, he notices the booze and damp tissues by the end of the bed and thinks there’s more to this than just the fire.
once he finally gets aaron outside and ensures him he’s safe he seems to come back to life a little, robert gets a half smile and a blush out of him.
once the fire is out and everyone is safe, robert goes to find aaron. fobs him off with an excuse, i’m just doing my job, but really, aaron’s left this feeling in his chest that he can’t explain. and then adam, the big-mouth-idiot is blurting out that aaron just loves a boy in uniform. suddenly it’s robert’s turn to do the blushing.
after that night, robert starts spending more time with a mate who goes to the same university, they very nearly lost so many people that night and it really put things back into perceptive for him. he goes as a plus one to his mates party that night, a mate of a mate who also happens to be mates with aaron. they recognise each other straight away and aaron can’t stop thanking robert for saving his life.
so robert kisses him to shut him up
send me an au and i’ll give you 5+ headcanons about it

Aaron’s spread out on the bed, he’s forgotten which way is up and the bed sheets are crumpled underneath him. He felt sore everywhere, thoroughly fucked and he loved it. The night was a complete and utter blur, him and Robert having enjoyed each others bodies as much as possible and then some. Thinking of Robert, a large hand finds it’s way to his arse, curving around him and Aaron shook his head into the mattress.
“No,” Aaron moaned. “I can’t go again, I’m knackered.”
“And you called me an old man,” Robert teased, kissing his shoulder blade. “How about breakfast instead?” Robert asked quietly. Aaron nodded.
“As long as I don’t have to get up.”
“I can arrange that.” Aaron twisted his head, watching as Robert called down to the hotel reception, organising breakfast in bed, completely confident without a stitch of clothing on. He looked good, his husband did. All he wore was his wedding ring and that watch, which he’d only taken off when they had a shared shower.
“It’ll be twenty minutes,” Robert said, pulling Aaron to him. They snuggled in bed, legs tangling and Aaron kissed Robert’s chest.
“I love you so much,” Aaron said. “I don’t think I told you how gorgeous you looked yesterday.”
“Yeah?” Robert said. He didn’t like fishing for compliments, but it still made him shiver when Aaron offered one.
“Yeah,” Aaron said. “Not so much with the dancing with Kerry and Faith, but before that... I didn’t know if I could keep my hands off you.” Robert kissed the top of his head as both men slipped into a doze.
It was good, this. Married life.

Okay, so Emmerdale has been very underwhelming when it comes to celebrating Robert's birthday, and as we all know, Aaron is a true soft, what is your headcanon, re: Aaron's plan/gift/birthday related shenangians for his most dearest idiotic husband?
aaron is one of these secretly romantic people. he might be a bit gruff on the outside, but he likes to wine and dine the person he loves as much as anyone else does - and he does it well. like, so well.
aaron knows robert inside out, knows everything he could possibly want, and he absolutely knows the one thing robert wants for his birthday, more than anything else, is some blissful, uninterrupted alone time with his husband. robert is the kind of person who will buy himself any sort of material object he wants (aarons convinced he has a shopping addiction, honestly) so aaron can sometimes be like???? what am i supposed to buy him, and then he remembers, remembers that robert just wants some time away with him, time where none of their friends and family can come and interrupt. they don’t get enough of that ever, really, so when roberts birthday is on the horizon, aaron starts looking at ways he can give robert exactly what he wants.
the first birthday after they get remarried, they spent a weekend away in london. aaron isn’t the biggest fan of london, really, but robert loves it, so aaron lets himself be dragged from shop to restaurant to shop, robert in his element amidst the hustle and bustle of the city. when robert turns 35, they go to paris, and that’s the weekend they both fall in love all over again, the stresses of life melting away as they do all the cliche things there are to do in paris, love locks and kisses under the eiffel tower.
roberts recovering from surgery, when e turns 40. aarons mad because he’d planned a whole, epic trip for them, so much more than a weekend away, two weeks in america (what was with them and america, really?) he’d had to get a refund for. aarons still determined to make this birthday of roberts special, and so he goes all out for his mostly bedbound, incredibly grumpy husband, making him pancakes in bed, and waking him up with persistent kisses all over his cheeks, and nose, making up for the fact they’ve celebrating the big 4-0 holed up in their house, no epic trips or parties, but it’s good all the same, because it’s that blissful, interrupted time with aaron that aaron knows his husband always craves (even if robert is so hyped up on painkillers that he passes out on aarons chest at lunchtime and aaron ends up spending the afternoon rewatching crap movies alone while robert sleeps.)

Day One: Write a cute Aaron scene + pets
Based on this scene from September 22, 2009 (also, not sure if i would count this as cute per se)
“What happened was always going to happen.”  “You shouldn’t have gone Paddy, I told you that! Now you’ve gone and ruined everything.” Aaron tilted his head back, begging the sunlight to warm his skin as the cooler winds of September swept through the grass and chilled his fingertips. He dumped his rucksack onto the ground carelessly; it wasn’t like he had anything valuable worth breaking. The most valuable thing he had was currently sniffing his way through the wet patches of dirt alongside the road out of Emmerdale.  Clyde tugged on his leash, trying to make his way further into the grass, but with just the lightest tug back, Aaron was able to pull him to his side. There were too many cars around for Clyde to roam freely.  Maybe one day he could. Soon, Aaron promised himself as he crouched down to scratch Clyde behind his ear.
“Sorry about all this. Know it’s not how you wanted to spend the afternoon, stuck on this leash. But I promise ya, soon as we get outta here, we’ll go somewhere where you can run all ya want. How’s that?” Aaron asked Clyde, only to be met with a lolled out tongue and panting.  “Right, take that as a yes then,” Aaron concluded as he stood up to his full height. He spent a few minutes popping his thumb out to any car that passed by, but even he could feel how little urgency was behind it.  He just didn’t understand. Sure, Chas was being an idiot, but what else was new? He didn’t understand why Paddy had to take it out on him. He was nothing like his mother, and if Paddy would just wait him out, he’d see that. Plus, Paddy was a grown man with framed pictures of kittens and puppies in his kitchen. The man obviously needed a change of pace.  Well, he supposed, it don’t matter nowt.  It hadn’t even been a question to take Clyde with him. He was his best friend and the only one who understood what it felt like to look a certain way that people automatically thought was scary and judge you for it. It’d just be him and Clyde, taking on the world together. He’d work odd jobs and save up to get Clyde some proper food, not just the mass-produced sludge they try to pass as dog food these days. He’d get him a bed to sleep in and keep him on his leash as little as he could get away with.  Aaron had plans. He just needed to get one person to stop the car and take them away. When he saw the tell-tale signs of Paddy’s car drive up, he couldn’t even feign surprise.  “What you playin’ at? Where the flippin’ heck do you think you’re going?” “Anywhere away from you.” “Well that was well thought through, wasn’t it? You have nowhere to stay”-  -“she hasn’t got any money, and it’s freezing out! What does she think she’s doing?”  “What?” Aaron asked, blinking himself out of the memory. Instantly he felt the chill of February biting at his cheeks and watched Robert’s eyes widen in near-hysterics.  “Are you seriously daydreaming right now?” Robert asked in bewilderment. “If you haven’t noticed, our daughter is missing. You know Grace? About yea high with your penchant for running off.”   “Uh, sorry, but I think it’s your theatrics she gets it from,” Aaron argued, conveniently stepping away from the fact that he was indeed daydreaming, but he couldn’t help it. Everything about this just felt so familiar.  Their son Lucas had gone off to University at the end of August, stopping back for the shortest holiday ever for Christmas before shipping back off again, and this was the first time Grace had been the complete center of attention from her dads. And maybe, just maybe, they were smothering her. But she just didn’t understand what it was like for them. She was their baby, and they only had two years left with her before she went off into the world without them.  So, sure. Maybe Robert called and texted her too many times a day, making sure she’d be home for tea. And sure, maybe Aaron checked in on her in her room a little too often. And maybe the both of them had gotten just a touch too snappy with her when she begged to spend an extended weekend with her friends rather than staying home for a family night like they did every month before Lucas left.  It was out of love, though!  But when Aaron had come home to a silent house with no signs of their overly friendly golden retrievers or teenage daughter anywhere, Aaron might have panicked. It had been Robert that told him not to worry. That she was probably just taking them for a long walk. But the hours passed and the winter night came with foggy breaths and wind chaffed skin, and Robert had gone from zero to sixty in an instant.  “I’m checking the pavilion again,” Robert said dismissively before jogging away. They hadn’t gotten too many people involved yet. She’d only been missing for five hours technically, and they knew she’d never forgive them if it turned out to be nothing and they’d gotten the whole village involved anyway.  So while Liv and Robert scoured the village, Aaron took to his car. He just couldn’t shake the feeling that maybe she was more like him than he wanted to admit.  After a nearly 20 minute drive out of the village, and several small heart attacks later, sure enough, wrapped in a pea coat and flanked by Rosie and Barney trotting happily beside her was Grace, walking down the same dirt path he’d been on so many years ago. He flashed his brights quickly, alerting her to his oncoming car, and before he could even allow his brain to switch from panic to anger, she was ushering the dogs into the backseat and shutting herself securely into the passenger’s seat, cranking the heat and pressing her face to the vent.  “What took you so long? Figured you’d have found me by now!” she chastised him, and Aaron blinked in confusion.  “Sorry? You’re mad at me? Where the hell’ve you been? Your dad’s nearly made himself sick panickin’ over you.” Before he could get a response, the sound of heavy panting filled the car. He turned to look back at his dogs. Barney was nudging his nose against the window, begging it to be opened despite the cold air. Rosie had laid herself out on the backseat, Barney’s comfort be damned.  “Look at this poor dog. Grace, Rosie’s nearly 15. You can’t be takin’ her for walks this far out, especially in the cold like this.”  “I didn’t mean to. I just meant to take Barney along since he’s been-” Grace stopped herself short, starting over. “Rosie wouldn’t stop whining until I got her leash out as well. She’s the one that wanted to come with us.”  Aaron reached back to rub at Rosie’s stomach, the dog letting out a puff of a sigh as she leaned into the affection. Barney’s attention was taken from the window in favor of scooping his head under Aaron’s hand for head pats instead. Their fur was cold, but their breathing was evening back out.  He turned back to his daughter. “Alright, what’s up then?”  “Can we just go home?” Grace sighed, pulling her jacket off to drape over her body like a blanket.  Aaron waited a beat, watching Grace stare off out the window. He pulled out his phone and sent a quick text to Robert before dumping his cell into the cup holder. He leaned his head back against the headrest and looked at his daughter. Her nose was red from the cold, but her skin didn’t flush the way Robert’s or Aaron’s did. He sighed again, deciding to take a different approach. “Barney’s been missin’ Lucas, hasn’t he?” he asked, his voice almost too loud despite the air blowing through the vents.  Grace shrugged, and at the mention of Lucas’ name, Barney perked back up. Rosie was always more of a family dog, but Barney was all Lucas’. He’d spend hours sitting by his side as Lucas practiced his chord progressions and would curl up into his bed at night. Grace and Barney had bonded over it, and a small part of Aaron’s mind was grateful for the day the kids had begged Robert to let them keep the abandoned dog. As children of adoption, they felt like they knew what it was like.
And years ago, when Aaron had Clyde, he had felt that way, too.
When Grace made no move to respond, Aaron let the subject drop and put the car into drive. They’d talk about it later. He was just glad they were safe, and that she had had the dogs with her. Of all the traits and habits she could have gotten from him, the devotion to her pets was a solid one to have.

Started as a headcanon, it is now a full blown not!fic of robron reunion 3.0 and Robron and Mack Friendship. Enjoy my rant!
I am loving this dynamic between Aaron and Mack, honestly. Aaron is just so exasperated by him, but he is also smiling and being goofy and stuff, something Aaron rarely has a chance to be. I kinda want them to be just friends though like, yes, let them bang once just ‘cause, you know. Like I want Aaron sleeping with Mack once when they’re just hanging out and stuff, just for the laughs, I want that to be the reason he dumps Ben. He realizes he enjoyed that one night with Mack more than he did his whole relationship with Ben, it was hotter, better, more fun. And then Mack is like all shy and shit and awkward, and Aaron’s just like “shut up, I don’t wanna date you, that was a one-time thing” and he means it and they’re friends again, and Mack mentions their little night to everyone just to annoy Aaron. And like when Robert comes back, he’s all jealous of Mack and Mack is a little shit so he play’s into it and flirts with Aaron like crazy and makes stupid innuendos and shit all the time in front of Robert. And like, Mack is the one that gets Aaron back with Robert, he makes him see sense when Robert comes back and Aaron is keeping his distance and listening to Paddy and Chas and everyone telling him to stay away and all that drama. Mack’s the one to just tell him to man up and go get his man. And Robert is a kicked puppy, like during reunion 2.0 (which also when I got into robron, that speech!). And Robert’s all sad and jealous and being dumb and sad over Aaron and Mack, worse than he was with Adam, ‘cause Mack flirts back and makes Aaron smile and he knows about their night, cause of course Mack mentioned it, right in his face, cause he’s a little shit. But Robert’s all sad and prison kind of broke him (give me the drama and all that PTSD storyline) and he thinks Aaron’s happier with Mack and he backs off cause he thinks they are or can be a thing, and Aaron sees it as Robert not wanting him anymore (he always doubted Roberts feelings for him!). Mack’s the one to push them together, give me all the shenanigans please! And one they do get together Mack doesn’t let up and keeps the flirting going, it annoys the shit out of Robert, but he trusts Aaron, he always has. And Aaron just enjoys them. And Robert and Mack do become friends, ‘cause of course they would. It would be a very evil, very sexy duo (it does things to poor Aaron). And eventually Mack starts flirting with Rob too, and we all know Robert’s a flirt too, so he flirts back, can’t help himself honestly. And that makes Aaron but a stop to the little game, no one flirts with Robert! Just no! Mack and Robert laugh at him a lot but they do stop, mostly. They do it in front of people, Mack flirts with them both and Robert flirts back and Aaron is just stoic, makes everyone so confused. Like that one time at the pub where Sam’s having a beer with them (Rob and Sammy are best friends, shut up) and Mack just starts, and Robert is unaware and just flirts back and Sammy is just *open mouth staring* (Am I a comedian or what?!)
Just give me Robron and Mack Friendship!!

ok so @robertsdingle asked if i would be willing to post my robron with their kids headcanons, which i am happy to do, so here is a post full of them (also i have to say @reformedcharacter and @capseycartwright get a lot of credit cause a lot of these are like a combination of stuff we’ve said uwu) also this is in no particular order, im just scrolling through our messages and writing them as and when i see them :)
their little boy, matthew, is the apple of their eyes. when hes born the first night hes home he doesnt sleep in the moses basket that they bought (”aaron, this one rocks from side to side, any baby will love it!”) matthew lies between the two of them, each have a hand resting on baby matthew’s tummy and they barely sleep that night cause they cant stop looking at their little boy.
the first time matthew says “Dada” they both get emotional. matthew is in his high chair eating breakfast one morning, and all of a sudden he shouts the word “Dada!” robert and aaron stop what they’re doing and rush over to their boy, asking him to “say it again, Matty! who are we?” and matthew keeps shouting “Dada!” aaron looks at robert who is welling up, as is he, because their boy knows that they are his daddies and they love him so much.
when matthew is a bit older, they take a family trip to disneyland, and matthew is OBSESSED with toy story. he carries his buzz lightyear everywhere with him around disney, and their boy cant stop talking about meeting woody and buzz. eventually they spot woody and buzz, and matthew starts to hide behind robert’s leg, his little arms clinging onto robert’s knee, a sure sign hes shy. aaron asks “do you want daddy to take you to meet them, Matty?” and the little boy nods, lifting his arms for aaron to pick him up, aaron doing so and going over to the characters, robert ready with his phone to take a million pictures of his boys.
robert has to go on business for a couple of days, and matthew misses him so much. aaron is sitting in their living room watching tv late one night when he spies matthew, clutching his blanket. “whats up, buddy?” aaron asks, “i miss dad.” matthew replies. aaron opens his arms and matthew cuddles in, aaron kissing his sons head. robert comes home late that night to surprise his husband, but it struck by the scene he sees, aaron and matthew fast asleep on the couch. his heart swells with love for his husband and kid
matthew is a good kid, they are always told hes a good kid. they go to matthew’s first parents evening, and matthew’s teacher tells them that matthew is such a delight to teach, hes kind to all of his classmates, and has a real passion for learning. robert gets emotional because he is so proud of his little boy, aaron can sense this and moves to hold his hand, giving it a squeeze to say “me too.”
robert does the swimming lesson run, and aaron does the football training run. thats their schedule. when matthew does his first 100 metres in hotten pool, just like robert, robert could burst with pride. matthew is so excited when robert tells him they can go to toys r us and he can pick a toy cause he did so well. matthew cant wait to get home and show aaron his new toy and badge.
sunday is park day for their family. they wake up early, go for breakfast somewhere in town, and then the park to let matthew burn off some energy. matthew loves the swings, he constantly asks aaron to push him on them, aaron only happy to oblidge. robert’s wallpaper is a picture of aaron pushing matthew on the swings, matthew’s smile so big and aaron’s eyes full of love for their boy.
for christmas one year, they surprise matthew with an alsation puppy. when they reveal the puppy, matthew bursts into tears because hes so happy. robert and aaron tell him he can name the puppy whatever he likes, so matthew chooses the name buzz, just like buzz lightyear. matthew and buzz are the best of friends, aaron’s heart swells one night when he pops his head into matthew’s room to check on him, and finds matthew fast asleep, his arms wrapped around buzz who is also sound asleep.

Rob’s “No-one else comes close” line is his epic declaration of love because growing up he heard his stepdad Richie say it to his mum all the time, and they became his main example of Happy Couple.
So now when he wants Aaron to know how much he loves him, he doesn’t just say “I love you” but also “No-one else comes close”.
Richie overhears one time and gives him shit for stealing his line, but deep down they’re both kind of amazed he’s had such an influence on Robert over the years.

#315
The alarm should be the thing to wake him up but instead Seb kicks out, and decides to also punch Robert almost square in the face.
Robert’s eyes flicker before he hisses and looks at he’s supposed bundle of joy, he nearly frowns and then Seb sticks his hand in his mouth and looks like better wouldn’t melt. He just smiles at him instead and watches the way he wriggles on Aaron’s side of the bed.
It’s soppy, he knows that it is soppy but Seb seems to like being on Aaron’s side of the bed and with Aaron and Liv gone, he welcomes having someone beside him.
The other little man in his life that he adores.
He doesn’t even realise what day it is until Seb’s on his arm awkwardly and Vic decides to drop in and wish him a happy father’s day. It’s nothing if not odd but Robert takes it with a soft smile which meets his eyes in a gentle way.
It just so happens to be his first father’s day and it means something different this year, the day doesn’t make his chest tighten, it makes him feel light. It makes him feel loved and he guesses that he deserves that, especially when Seb looks up at him in awe almost like he knows how much Robert should mean to mean, does mean.
“Thanks.” Robert says, offers Vic a brew as Seb dangles on his arm. It makes Vic start to laugh and Robert frowns at her.
“You.” She waves a hand out. “A natural, it’s -“
“Ridiculously unexpected.” Robert puts a teabag in a yellow mug and Vic shakes her head.
“I was going to say, exactly what I thought you’d be. Once you let yourself be that is.” Robert is an idiot because the comment seems to go straight to his heart and make his legs feel like jelly.
It’s nice, to hear it from someone who should think he’s a decent dad, someone who saw him deny his boy one too many times.
It’s not even been a whole year since Seb was born but he’s changed, he loves him and he’s embarrassed by how much Vic’s praise means to him.
“You think?” He feels stupidly vulnerable and she goes and stands, squeezes his arm and pokes her tongue out at Seb.
“I know you idiot. You couldn’t change a nappy the first few times.” Vic waves a hand out and laughs, Seb decides to copy her and Robert is in awe for a second.
“Yeah well, Aaron’s come along as well on that front.” Robert fixes Seb’s little dungarees as he speaks and thinks of his husband, he’s embarrassed by how much he misses him, and Liv. It makes him almost mope about the place until Seb giggles and he has a reason to smile again.
“He’s come along in all areas hasn’t he eh?” Vic says, and Robert knows what she means.
::
Rebecca remembers to write Robert a card from Seb and it sort of melts his heart a little.
It doesn’t say much, just that Seb loves him and he knows it doesn’t really mean anything but the sentiment seems to turn him into goo.
And Seb seems to know what day it is as well, doesn’t fuss too much when Diane parades him up and down in the pub and Faith tries to wrestle in for a squeeze.
“Happy Father’s Day then.” Cain says, like there’s something bitter in his mouth. Robert can’t help but find it amusing.
“Cheers. Same to you.” Robert shrugs and Moira looks on, suppressing a laugh. “Bit weird how we’ve adapted.” He points to Isaac in Cain’s arm and then Cain nods.
“Our Aaron not around is he?” Cain diverts the conversation seemingly, sips at his pint whilst Robert nods. “Suppose he’d say you adapted pretty decently as well.”
And that’s the best compliment he’ll ever get from him.
::
Seb decides to stay up past his bedtime but Robert appreciates the company, puts him out on his chest like he’s a starfish and makes faces until his laptop is making funny sounds and he’s getting a Skype call.
He lifts himself up so fast that Seb screeches and he has to spend a few seconds rubbing his back before he accepts the call.
Aaron’s there, looking all stupidly beautiful and making Robert’s face light up. He waves a little and then Liv pokes her head around.
“Hiya.” Aaron leans closer towards the screen. “Liv says that I’ve set it up right.” Robert scoffs as Liv tilts the laptop better so that it’s focused clearer.
“Yeah you have. I can see ya. You alright?” Robert bites down on his lip as Aaron speaks all animatedly about nearly getting lost in the Scottish highlands or something.
“Happy Father’s Day then.” Aaron leans even flipping closer and Liv chirps in.
“Yeah, you old man.”
Aaron playfully slaps her and that gets Seb gurgling a bit more and Robert nearly melts as Aaron makes faces at him through the screen.
“Cheers.” Robert says, bounces Seb on his lap a few times and then gulps. “I miss you two.” He admits, “Doesn’t feel the same without you here.”
That’s Liv’s cue to leave because Aaron’s eyes start to getting softer and she’s not an idiot.
“I know.” Aaron whispers. “I completely forgot it was this Sunday, I -“
“Shut up. It’s fine.” Robert whispers, and it’s hilarious how softer his voice gets when he’s talking to Aaron. Seb picks up on it and starts to press his hands against the screen as Aaron waves at him. “It would have been better if Seb got to give you a cuddle though. I reckon that’s why he’s still up. He misses his soft dad.”
Robert watches as Aaron visibly gulps. He doesn’t say anything for the longest time and Robert is scared that they’ve lost connection.
“Aaron?”
Aaron shakes himself a little. “His soft dad.” He says, almost like a whisper, almost in awe of what it means.
Robert panics, naturally. “Shit. I mean, I think of you like you’re his dad as well, I didn’t mean to -“
“I feel the same.”
Of course they decide to have the conversation now. On Father’s Day. It almost makes more sense than anything else.
Robert bites his lip and his chin seems to be set off. “I’ve always wanted - hoped that you would have seen him as more than just -“
A mistake.
Rebecca’s baby.
My son.
“I do.” Aaron promises, sniffs like he’s crying and Robert already knows that he probably is. “My little man.” He says, looks right at Seb who is completely silent and staring at the screen.
“Happy Father’s Day to you too then.” Robert says and Aaron looks at him with his eyes wide and a slight smile on his face like he didn’t even expect it.
“Thanks.” Aaron bites his lip and then laughs a little before smiling. He’s obviously caught up in his joy for too long and then suddenly he shakes himself. “Oh look under the bed by the way. I - I got you something.”
Robert tuts, he shouldn’t have got him anything but five minutes later he’s opening up a box and finding a mug inside.
World’s Best Dad.
He’s not, he makes mistakes and Aaron makes it so much easier than he knows.
“Aaron -“
“You are.” Aaron shrugs. “You’re a brilliant dad so just accept the cheap mug and move on.”
Robert’s eyes flicker softly and he sniffs, smoothes a hand over the writing and then pulls Seb up closer towards him.
“The card is naff and soppy but -“
That only makes Robert open it up and basically try not to cry his heart out.
‘ To Robert,
I’m writing this as you sing badly to Seb in his room, it’s about three in the morning as well, but you don’t seem to care which is why I know you’re a top dad even if you don’t.
Happy Father’s Day. I know how far you’ve come and how much it has taken you to be where you are now and I’m so proud it’s a joke.
You’re an amazing dad, kind and softer than you think even though we both know that you’ll end up being the strict dad whilst me and Seb team up against you when he’s old enough.
I know you don’t think you’re any more than just decent, but I promise you, you’re already given that little boy a better childhood than me or you had.
And I love you so much for it, I love the family we have and the fact that you’ll always look out for us, always do what you can to protect us, never want to disappoint us.
It’s why you’re an amazing dad.
It’s why I love you and can’t wait for you to hear Seb say exactly they same thing thing.
All my love,
Aaron.
Robert has tears in his eyes as he finishes reading and Aaron’s turned bright red.
“Told you it was sappy.” Aaron says suddenly. “I just wanted you to know, like really know, that I’m so proud of ya.”
Seb starts wriggling about on Robert’s lap and he starts pressing a hand down on his little head.
“I know.” Robert nods. “When no one else was, you were proud.” He gulps hard and suddenly hates that Aaron’s not sitting right next to him.
Aaron seems to lose it himself, presses hard down on his eyes as they water and then when he looks up they’re all red. “‘Cause I knew you could do it.” He shrugs. “And I love you.”
Robert presses a hand on the laptop like he’s in some teen drama and Aaron’s his long lost love. “And I love you.”
Aaron blinks quickly. “And him.” He says, “Can’t forget Seb.” He whispers, laughs a little and Seb reacts to it by bouncing his body about.
Robert yawns and Seb starts to wriggle like he’s tired so he decides to call quits on this mush fest.
“Happy Father’s Day.” Robert says, and Aaron still beams at him a little like he’s still getting used to it.
“Happy Father’s Day.” Aaron nods back, bites down on his lip a little. “I’m glad you’ve had a good first one. You deserved it.”
Robert blushes and just loves Aaron too much.
He’s what he’s thinking about up until Seb’s wriggling about in bed and Robert scoops him up in his arms.
“Love you little man.” Robert kisses his head softly, his onesie with the little cars on it reminds Robert of Aaron and then he smiles softly before placing him back down.
Robert finally closes his eyes and tries to get to sleep, Seb and all his little sounds enough to make feel at ease.
He almost makes him feel proud, actually proud of himself for coming this far, and he could really get used to it.

Robron - Xbox?
aaron and robert can’t seem to just play an average game of fifa on the xbox. they can’t just play to the rules and take it turns to act out the sore loser - no, they have to make it into some kind of foreplay, of course.
there’s never a loser when it comes to the two of them and the xbox really - since it always ends with one of them being pleasures or delivering the pleasure. either way, it always ends with them both naked.
some of their little ridiculous rules include losing an item of clothing when you concede a goal. or taking a shot of vodka when you dare to exacute a nasty tackle. as you can imagine, half of the time they don’t even make it to the final whistle.
it’s safe the say those gaming chairs have seen their fair share of action over the years.
send me a ship + a word for a headcanon

Fic prompt: Sebastian gets a little brother or sister and is confused by them.
So, Seb’s at the age he can hold a conversation for this one.
“Is she… staying?” Seb asked, all wide eyed innocence.
“Yeah,” Aaron said, having put Annie down in her carry cot, Seb watching her cautiously. “We told you about you getting a sister, do you remember?”
“Yes,” Seb said. “I didn’t think the baby would be here all the time.”
“Come here,” Aaron said, pulling Seb onto his lap. “Annie is not replacing you. You are our eldest and our most clever kid, okay?”
“But why did you need her?!” Seb asked.
“Okay, you know auntie Vic?” Aaron said, trying to explain, Seb nodding. “She’s your dad’s little sister. And Auntie Liv? She’s my little sister. This new one, she’s going to be your little sister.”
“She’s really small,” Seb said, making Aaron smile. “Liv and Vic are FUN!”
Aaron laughed. “She won’t stay small forever. You were EVEN smaller than her when you were born.”
“No I wasn’t!” Seb gasped in indignation and Aaron hugged him tight.
“I know having her around is going to be a change, Seb. It’ll be all right in the end, you know?”
“Okay,” Seb said. “She’s all fuzzy.” Aaron looked at the top of Annie’s head and grinned. Yeah, she did have a lot of dark fuzz there, it was true.
“Love you,” Aaron said, giving Seb another tight squeeze.

In the spirit of the season, how about Christmas headcanons? Or wintery ones?
tis the season for christmas headcanons and soft husbands, vix!
ok so.
robert has an addiction to mince pies. like, aaron likes having one or two with a cup of tea in the evening, but robert eats a packet like they’re going to eventually stop making them. its honestly disgusting, but aaron finds it kind of endearing when robert is sitting on their couch in his tracksuit bottoms, pastry sticking to his lips, a mug of tea in hand as they watch telly.
they always make a day out of buying their tree, and putting it up. its a rule robert made early on in their relationship, telling aaron about all the christmases he’d spent with his family, before his mum died, picking out their tree, arguing over decorations, and where to put what. it’s always one of the very best days of the year, the two of them (and liv, when she’s home) heading to the garden centre, arguing over trees (and eventually just letting robert pick, because he’s obsessed with their tree being perfectly cone shaped) and drinking hot chocolate while they hang their decorations and tinsel, the lights inevitably not working, robert throwing a fit while aaron patiently untangles them.
the first christmas they spent together, aaron bought them a christmas decoration. it was a silly one, two snowmen hanging on a piece of ribbon, but every year after that. he buys a new one - always tacky, and silly, and out of place on a tree covered in expensive john lewis baubles (roberts doing) and it’s a tradition he keeps going for all the christmases they spend together.
they go ice-skating, at the christmas market in leeds. robert has a flair for it, strangely enough, confident on the ice in a way aaron isn’t, clinging to the outside of the rink and cursing his husband. robert is relentless, though, and he coaxes aaron away from the edge, holding tightly to his hand as they make their way around the ice. aaron is still terrible, by time they stumble off the ice, legs aching, but he’s slightly less terrible than he was an hour previously.
robert loves baking. he’s not half as good as victoria, and he doesn’t do it often, but every year, when christmas rolls around, he breaks out the mixer he’d bought when they first moved into the mill, and he makes something christmassy, be it mince pies, or cookies. aaron loves nothing more than coming home from work, to a house that smells like fresh baking, robert humming to christmas music as he works. its the kind of homely, domestic bliss aaron loves the most.
