Is my magic dress actually white? Answer revealed this weekend! Check @thegirlwiththedolewhiptattoo ’s story to see villainous looks from her and other Disneybounders participating in the challenge! 👀 ✨ 👗: I made this dress from a very tattered fitted bedsheet that came from a local last-chance thrift store. The Orange County FL solid waste division has been seeing the highest volume they’ve ever seen lately, and our landfill is now expected to fill up in 15 years (which is much sooner than previous estimates), so this is one of the ways I try to give items a second life rather than letting them reach the landfill or buying items made from new resources that will eventually reach the landfill. 🧵 🪡 ✂️

It’s a Bug...! GASP.

What made you pick up this character?

A number of reasons. For one, I think she’s absolutely gorgeous and I have a huge messy crush on her. She’s my favorite character to Disneybound. She’s one of my favorite Disney ladies! But also... people hate her for not giving Pinocchio the answers he immediately needs and solving all his problems for him. And I hate people for that. I find Pinocchio has to learn in his own way. And to me that’s a lot like a learning disability. If people just gave me the answers to all of my problems I’d be very, very angry... because eventually that’s what they did with my dyscalculia. And that didn’t help me learn. This made me struggle so hard that I never got through college math classes. Instead of giving me help they just tried to nudge me through. They also refused to test me because “girls don’t get math disabilities”. Blue is patient with Pinocchio and I love that. She cast a miracle of life and she didn’t have to stick around. Instead she stays there to help Pinocchio learn to navigate the world with Jiminy (a little bit limited but she does) and also helps lead him back to Geppetto. I’ve pretty much read everyone’s scathing “take down” of the Blue Fairy in various versions of Pinocchio... And I think everyone is full of horseshit. That’s right. Horseshit. You’re all wrong. Even for the more childlike Fairy with Turquoise Hair who doesn’t do as much teaching, I think she serves a good purpose in trying to remind Pinocchio he needs to learn so he can find a way to live. :| /rant

What’s the best thing about the canon you are writing?

I can make up all the stuff I want and nobody can stop me. Stop me, I dare you. And sure some people are gonna whine but generally, nobody really cares about Blue unless they wanna shit on her. So. Come get me, I dare you.

What’s the worst thing about the canon you are writing?

I think I gotta go back to Disney in general here. Cause Pinocchio fandom just has some weird and I just gotta go “eeeugh” and block it but otherwise... not too bad? The obsession with fight girls. Disney fandom... I hate you. lol It’s been happening since the late 90s and the mommy bloggers screaming over which Disney women wearing pants are more feminist than the ones wearing skirts for five seconds is just enough to make me want to drive my head through a wall. One year for March, they only promoted Mrs. Incredible and Captain Marvel for International Women’s Month. And the fandom applauded this. I was... livid. So... no disabled women. No older women. No women that actually resemble real women. No women of color. None of the women in Disney history that I find are more ambiguous with sexuality (because shut up straight people it’s not all about you). I get so angry that Disney often attributes old with disabled but at that point I would have welcomed seeing something themed for Mama Coco because she’s the family Matriarch in Coco... Instead we just had so many fans (predominantly loud white cis straight women) applauding the inclusion of two super heroes that nobody can achieve. And I hate the fandom for this so much. I absolutely hate it. It makes me feel self conscious in this broken, queer body of mine. And we’re this way because our fandom is cis, white, and straight... and ignorant as hell. If I never see Mrs. Incredible on something ever again I could die happy. Potentially loaded opinion but super heroes just remind me of a body and abilities I will never reach... thrown in my face. over and over. Guess who won’t watch most Marvel? Mmmn this girl. Yeah Blue gonna...sparkle over here.

Big congratulations to Austen for being selected for the second member spotlight! She is one of my nearest and dearest friends and to see her able to shine in the spotlight was incredible as she’s so deserving! Check out her answers to the questionnaire below :)

Q: What is your earliest memory of the Nancy Drew games? Playing TRT with my sister when I was 9 and pretending that Dexter was chasing us through the vents and elevator shaft trying to kill us. Most intense game I've ever played.

Q: What is your favorite game, and why? WAC! I adore the aesthetic of this one and it is such a comfort game for me. It reminds me so much of where I went to undergrad and I honestly love every part of it! Plus it has the snack shop, and that is indisputably the best minigame there is.

Q: What is your least favorite game, and why? MID for too many reasons to name. It exists outside of the canon Drewniverse and I will never accept it as a true Nancy Drew game.

Q: Who is your favorite character, and why? Henry Bolet Jr. The world has been unkind to him, despite him having a pure heart hidden behind a facade of cynicism, and he deserves every happiness in the world.

Q: What is something you’d like to see in an upcoming game? Henry Bolet coming back! (In OG ND style only, no MID rendering allowed). Really though, I would love to see a game set in a hospital with a plot surrounding sabotage and murder, or a game surrounding the Russian Ballet.

Q: What is your favorite memory from the games and/or the books? Honestly there are too many treasured moments to pick just one! These games have always been a huge part of my life and I have so many amazing memories attached to them.

Q: What is your favorite thing about the Nancy Drew fandom? The kindness and support that permeates through these online interactions. The people are beautiful, warm, and hilarious, and our little community brings me so much joy.

Q: Anything you contribute to the fandom (such as fanfiction, artwork, graphics, memes, reviews, meta, etc.) that we can give you a shoutout for?I created text liveblogs for every game (exc. MID) as I played them! Also I wrote a Henry Bolet one shot, "in which may rain shows more compassion than summer," and a brief analysis of Henry's psychological makeup advocating for the understanding and protection of his beautiful heart.

Q: Any other hobbies and/or interests? I love musical theatre, thrifting, and closet cosplaying/disneybounding!

Ngl I even have j/b/f dreams. Last week they went to Disneyland in my dreams. How do u think their time in Disneyland would be like?

aw that’s cute, I have a couple of ideas! (also writing these based off Disney World in Florida b/c I’ve been there and not Disneyland in California!)

1) Frankie is totally the kind of person who starts planning everything about the trip months in advance; reserving a themed hotel room, claiming Fastpasses on the Disney app 90 days in advance, and planning where they’re going to eat while not at the parks. she’d also probably make sure that they were going during either the Food and Wine or Flower and Garden Festival b/c the food and drinks at Epcot during both of those?? slaps.

2) Britta is the kind of person that’s just there for a good time and to do whatever her companions want to do. but also she really wants to ride the Frozen ride and if she doesn’t get a giant pretzel from the Germany pavilion, she’s gonna pitch a fit.

3) Jeff is the kind of person who lowkey complains about everything on their first day, but ends up absolutely loving it. he tries to pretend that he’s just there for Britta and Frankie. however, they saw him shed a tear during the Carousel of Progress and know better. (Alexa play There’s a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow)

4) Britta totally Disneybounds every single day and gets the others to join her once or twice. I’m picturing Rapunzel-Britta + Flynn-Jeff most clearly.

5) Frankie loves the Dole Whip. idk why I just feel very strongly about this.

6) Britta hates It’s a Small World. after telling Jeff and Frankie this, the two of them pretend that it’s their favorite ride and make her ride it with them to taunt her. however, the joke’s on them, no one can get the song out of their head afterwards and they all have similar nightmares later that night.

7) they want to see the fireworks at the Magic Kingdom but also beat the crowds, so they get on the ferry right before they start and watch them from the upper deck on their way across the lake. (this is my best piece of legitimate Disney World advice. get on the ferry. watch the fireworks from the upper deck. beat the post-fireworks rush while also getting to watch them from the water. 10/10 experience.)

not to be a basic bitch, but thinking of and writing these made me miss Disney World. like not like all of those bloggers that make going to Disney a personality trait, but just in a “aw dip, I can’t wait until it’s safe enough for me to go back” kind of way. 

also!! my second piece of legitimate Disney World advice is to go do the Baymax meet-and-greet. seriously. he was in one of the character spots at Epcot when I was there a few years ago and y’all. there’s a life size Baymax that’s just as huggable as one would hope that he would be. and he moves and interacts with people like the animated Baymax. stunning showstopping etc. I think about him all the time.

okay now that I’ve remembered that, 8) Britta tries to steal the inflatable Baymax suit. the trio gets banned from the park for life.

saracen x reader cute theme park date !!

Aaaah this is such a cute idea!! Enjoy Anon ;) I hope you don’t mind I took some personal liberties with this one! 

Pairing: Saracen x Reader Word Count: 1283 Themes: Romance, Date, Reader Insert, Theme Park, Proposal

This was the day. It was a long time coming, and he knew he wouldn’t hear the end of it from the other dead men. But Saracen Rue was taking his girlfriend to Disneyland with them. Usually, it was quite the lads day out, but this time it was special and he wanted y/n to be there. 

Waking up that morning was refreshing as waves of excitement rippled through the hotel suite in preparation for this day. Skulduggery was unaffected by this as he had spent most of that time meditating, “ah, alas I have finally been disturbed from my brilliant planning for the day ahead”. It seems unorthodox, but Skulduggery looked forward to this annual trip just as much as the others. Dexter laughed loudly and sarcastically, “and we mess those plans up every year, don’t we Saracen?! EPCOT! EPCOT!”, he chanted. Saracen shot him a warning look and smiled at you warmly, “Ahaha well we just love seeing all the countries and monuments!”. Smirking you raise an eyebrow at Saracen having finally emerged from the covers yourself, “I see. I see. Well, I for one cannot wait to get on that bar crawl! I hear it’s pretty popular there…”. Dexter grimaced and quickly dashed into the bathroom before he got his friend into any more trouble and Saracen was left awkwardly staring blankly at the bathroom door, “that sneaky son of a-”, he couldn’t help but laugh and wrap you in a warm embrace, “Yeah yeah, I get it smarty pants. You know things, right?”. “That’s right”, you grinned in response. The hustle and bustle of the morning focused mainly on everyone trying to negotiate bathroom times as well as Ghastly ringing up for a room service breakfast. “We always do this”, he informed you, “Otherwise we would never eat at all with how long Anton takes in the shower”. Anton huffed at this, “I’m not a savage- I like to be clean”. Dexter barged past managing to get toothpaste bubbles all over Anton’s fresh towel and the intensity of his gaze was almost overwhelming. Thankfully you were able to get ready with Saracen which gained you a little more privacy in the crowded suite. He took the time to wash your body softly in the shower, making sure you felt warm and loved. Leaning into his grasp you kissed him softly and sighed happily nuzzling into his beard softly, “Can’t we just stay in the hotel room for today? Let the others run rampant?”. Saracen smirked and kissed at your neck, “No chance. I don’t want you to miss a second of this trip-as tempting as that sounds”. You had been preparing for this day too and you were finally ready to leave the hotel room dressed in a beautiful Alice Disneybound. Saracen had sparks in his stomach as he looked you up and down, from the charming petticoat to the stunning blue hue of the dress, “you look radiant”, he smiled taking your arms in his. Shrugging you smiled demurely, “Well, I wanted to wear something nice… and besides this is a special day right?”. You could feel the breakfast waffles in your stomach-churning as the other dead men spotted your outfit. “You look beautiful”, Ghastly commented first as they began to file out of the room. He was also dressed up, in a 1950s-esque white shirt and pair of patterned trousers held up with braces.  Dexter was beaming as he tipped an imaginary cap at you, “milady~”, he was wearing a similar outfit to Ghastly, as was Anton, Saracen and even Skulduggery. He almost looked naked without his jacket on- that was until he replaced his normal skull face with his facade. After an embarrassing torment of compliments, you smiled at them all and left the room headed toward the tram that would take you to the park. 

Once you saw that marvellous entrance your heart was beating steadily as you came upon the sight of the castle peeking over the horizon. The faster you walked the more Saracen had to struggle to keep up with you, the excitement building up in your chest felt incredible. Throughout the day, you had such wonderful food to eat. Anton showing you the most refined of dining experiences, Saracen showing you all the delicious snacks he loved. While Dexter pulled you on and off incredibly intense roller coasters (regrettably after the food) and Skulduggery toured you around Epcot to take in the sights and sounds of so many different countries and then pointing out how they were all inaccurate. You couldn’t imagine how this day could get any better, and then it turned to night. For an hour you had waited outside the castle to claim a good spot, taking pictures with the group until it was time for the fireworks display to begin. The joy of the music and the magic of the light show mixed with the fireworks filled your heart to the brim. Holding onto Saracen’s arm you held back the tears brimming in your eyes as you made a wish for your future to always hold this much magic and wonder. Suddenly you could feel yourself being pulled forward, you frowned and opened your eyes realising the crowd had gone quiet. The music was softer and the park seemed as though it had come to a complete standstill. You glanced up at Saracen who was directing you toward the road in front of Cinderella’s castle. “Saracen, what’s going on? Is everything ok?”. Gently he moved you to the side and addressed the crowd. “Everyone! This is y/n! And she is the absolute love of my life”. You clutched your hands together in front of your chest as you felt your breath hitch in your throat, “Saracen?...”. You glanced to the side and could see Anton and Ghastly smirking, Dexter was excitedly giving you the thumbs up and Skulduggery had some kind of estranged look on his face. Turning back to Saracen the tears that had brimmed before toppled over onto your cheeks. “This woman has stuck by me, through thick and thin. She has made me want to be a better man, and I want to spend the rest of my life with her”. As he got down on one knee you could barely hold yourself together in front of this crowd. Your eyes stung from the tears and all you could think about was how to stop them. But still, the smile shone on your face like nothing could make it fade away at this moment. Saracen took a small box out of his pocket and opened it to reveal a beautiful diamond ring, “y/n, I wanted this proposal to be just as incredible as you are… I hope it lived up to you. And truly shows my love for you. Will, you please marry me? Otherwise, this would be super embarrassing”. The moment of silence that followed was the hardest thing Saracen had ever experienced in his life. He held his breath and you took a moment to take this all in. Then you nodded softly, worried that he didn’t notice you nodded again harder until you couldn’ t contain yourself anymore and you jumped into his arms crying for joy. “YES!”, you finally blurted out, “I-I can’t really do words right now… I love you…”, you whispered into his ear as the castle was once again lit up by the fireworks and the crowd erupted in applause. “I love you too”, Saracen was beaming with both relief and excitement, he slipped the ring onto your finger perfectly and kissed you while you sat on the cobblestones in front of the castle.

If OffhandDisney has taught me anything, change Tomorrowland. I’d love to do to Tomorrowland in California what was originally done in Tomorrowland in Disney Paris, aka turning it into “The Future of the Past.” Maybe not exclusively Jules Verne but something similar!

Disneybound: Your favorite Disneybound look or a look you’d like to do in the future

Cosplayer Interview: ariellemarshig

If you want a cosplayer who specializes in the most fluffy and adorable characters, look no further than @ariellemarshig. Her Disney-heavy repertoire includes all of your favorite princesses, including a mermaid, and her Sarah Sanderson is also to die for. Check out her page for tons of great pictures of a huge roster of cosplays. You might also run into her in any fandom theme park, if you’re lucky!

How did you first start cosplaying?

I have loved dressing up in costumes for as long as I can remember. I did theater in high school and had an extensive 'dress up' collection. I got introduced into the cosplay community when I graduated college and was encouraged by a coworker to join a local princess party company: A Characteristic Attitude. There I met tons of people who shared the same love of various fandoms such as Disney, Harry Potter, etc. and we started going to conventions together.  

Your costumes look so amazing! Do you buy pieces, make pieces, or both?

Both! It is a combination of purchased items and made items. I am personally not very savvy in making things and I am lucky to have much more talented friends who help me make the costumes come to life.  

We love your Sarah Sanderson cosplay since Hocus Pocus is one of our favorite movies. Why did you decide on this Sanderson sister? Do you have plans to ever cosplay the others?

Sarah has always been my favorite Sanderson sister since I saw the movie when I was young. I just love her bubbly, silly, personality, while still being pretty sinister. I, personally, don't plan on doing the others, however, one of my best friends @erin_elayne has an AMAZING Winifred Sanderson cosplay that I would love to do a collab photoshoot with.  

Talk to us about hair. How much work does it take to get yours into all the styles we see on your cosplays? Do you use wigs or extensions or have a professional stylist?

I have always felt that a wig can make or break a cosplay. I, typically, will get a cheap (preferably lace front) base off of Amazon, then my super talented friends @erin_elayne or @amariebauer will style it into the beautiful creations that you see.  

Your Ariel and Jasmine costumes are particularly awesome. How did you go about choosing which design to buy or make?

The costumes posted on my page are a combination of my personal cosplays and pieces from the princess party company I work for: A Characteristic Attitude.  My most recent Jasmine Cosplay that I debuted at the D23 Expo is based off the Signature Jasmine Doll. I love the dark blue color and the peacock details that it has. It has the essence of the classic costume from the movie while also being unique. The base was purchased off a Facebook cosplay resale group and then my friend @eclectic_eccentric brought it to life.  

We got together and came up with how we wanted it to look and she made it real. The Ariel costumes I have posted are from the princess party company, but my own personal mermaid cosplay is Mermaid Cypress. The beautiful tail was designed by @erin_elayne and made real by Merrow Fins. I have always wanted to have my own silicone mermaid tail and I am so happy that I finally have one to add some realism to my costume.  

How do you choose which characters to cosplay?

I cosplay the characters that I love. Jasmine and Belle are my particular favorites to do as I associate my personality with them the most. Harley Quinn is my favorite non-Disney cosplay to do. I am a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner in real life so I love that Harley was a Psychiatrist. I also have an obsession with mermaids, so I love doing Ariel or my own mermaid creation. 

What advice do you have for anyone who wants to start cosplaying?

Just go for it! You don’t need to spend hundreds of dollars on a costume to look amazing and have a great time. It is all about how you wear it and the confidence that you present. Everyone starts somewhere.  

It looks like you went to D23 this year and cosplayed there. What was that experience like?

It was completely magical. This was actually my second D23 Expo I have attended. The amount of creativity that people put into their cosplays for this expo is mind-blowing. I got to go with two of my best friends and we debuted our Bimbette group costume from Beauty and the Beast. We even made it on Buzzfeed for this cosplay! I think that was my favorite cosplay I have ever done.  

How many theme parks have you been to? Which was your favorite one and why?

I am a theme park junkie. Outside of Disney, I have been to Universal Studios in Florida and SeaWorld in California. My favorite theme parks are, of course, the Disney ones. My bucket list is to go to all of the Disney parks in the entire world! I have currently been to Disney World, Disneyland/California Adventure, Euro Disney in Paris, and Tokyo Disneyland/Tokyo Disney Sea. I just need to add the Shanghai Disney and Hong Kong Disney parks to my list.  

My favorite, by far, was Tokyo Disney Sea. Everything there was larger than life and more immersive than any other Disney park I have experienced. It has an entire Little Mermaid land that my mom had to literally drag me out of. The treats and merchandise are also on a whole other level. Disneybounding at the parks is also so much fun. I love putting together different outfits in preparation for my trips. I recently did a Jasmine and Belle Disneybound in California and a Jasmine and Ariel Disneybound in Florida. 

What message do you hope people take away about cosplay after seeing your page or meeting you when you’re cosplaying?

Just do what you love and don’t worry about what other people will think.  The cosplay community as a whole has been very welcoming and it is so cool to be around like-minded people who love fandoms as much as you do.

You are extraordinary. 💙 We all are. I dare you to believe it. Don't doubt it for a second. Those who fall short do so not because they don't have greatness inside them; they just fail to believe it. They fail to see the value they were innately created with, and the mark they were meant to leave on the world. Dreams DO come true with hard work, dedication & the stubborn, tenacious habit of never giving up! And it's never too late. It might take time, but every step of the journey is worth it when you're living in your life's purpose, and becoming the person you were always meant to be. Whether it sounds cheesy or not, I believe in you. I know you can do it. If I can hold onto hope, and witness my own sorrows, trials & despair transform into gifts, open doors & dreams coming true, you surely can too. No one is immune from the darkness, but it's our choice whether we let it continue to control us, or whether we choose to step into the Light. #transformationtuesday I was really excited to make this post and I almost didn’t because lately being open about my weight loss journey has invited unwanted comments. I was beautiful then, I am beautiful today. I am not fishing for compliments and please do not try and change my mind on how I feel about the first picture. I #disneybounded as #ariel for the second time over the weekend. This is the first time I have such a comparison for all of what @weightwatchers has really done for me outside of a physical appearance I’ve grown to love. In high school, I really loved fashion and getting dressed up every single day. In recent years, I felt discouraged to try it out. Over the summer when I absolutely needed to buy new clothes I discovered how much I actually loved it again. The fact I’m wearing a pencil skirt and heels is something I never ever thought I’d do again. I was really happy I decided to do Ariel because she was a character I wasn’t happy with how I pulled but she’s always been a very important one in my life so whenever I did dress up as her I felt more hidden and less like my bubbly childhood hero.
