For this AU, where I plan to make Furuya Rei and Akai Shuuichi struggle through the plot of Sekaiichi Hatsukoi, I need help choosing

As the previous post states, I decided that Akai is going to be Takano’s replacement – stoic, more dedicated and caring than he lets on, a softy with a rough shell

And Furuya will take on Onodera’s role in the romcom Sekai ichi Hatsukoi is.

So while Akai’s former name – the one Furuya knew him by during school – is obviously Sera Shuuichi, I struggle to decide how to proceed about Furuya’s name. Because while he has a whole different identity at disposal, there is a crux in the plot around Onodera

Because back in their school days, Onodera Ritsu signed the check-out slips of library books as Oda Ritsu, which Takano (then Saga) found out and which is the reason why/ how Takano knew his given name when they slept with each other first the first time but also couldn’t recognise the name when Onodera started working at Marukawa’s Emerald Department.

The reason for Onodera using a fake name being that he was ashamed of essentially stalking his senpai through his reading habits/ the books Saga checked out

Ritsu is thirteen. He’s back in the library, and he still hasn’t shaken his temporary infatuation. He’s starting to get concerned. It’s possible that this isn’t fine.

At least he finally knows the name of the object of his affection- obsession- thoughts. All he’d had to do was check the library cards. It’s not creepy. He was just curious. He just wanted to know his name. It’s fine.

His name is Masamune Saga. He’s quiet. He’s unapologetically noticeable. He’s beautiful.

He’s about two or three years older than Ritsu. Two grades ahead. He’s read every single book in the library at least twice. He has a habit of checking out books in the fantasy genre the most. When school lets out, he goes to the library. Every day of the week, without fail. Most of the time he doesn’t look away from his book. Sometimes he can’t concentrate. When that happens, he stares out the window and the sunlight falls on his face, streams through his hair, and turns his eyes into gold. It makes Ritsu’s breath catch. Most of the time, he doesn’t leave until he’s kicked out. He has a favorite table and a favorite chair he likes to sit at. His eyebrows raise when he reads something he finds interesting. His forehead crinkles in annoyance when their schoolmates get rowdy. He doesn’t smile.

The fact that Ritsu knows all of this doesn’t mean anything, except that he maybe needs a new hobby. Or that he seriously needs to get his teenage hormones out of his system. He’s creeping himself out, here.

But it’s fine. It'll pass. It’ll be fine. Ritsu hasn’t forgotten that his parents have expectations for him that certainly don’t involve him mooning over someone that isn’t An. Especially when that someone is a boy. It’s never going to happen. Ritsu is fine with that. He’s stupid, not delusional. He’s content to just watch from afar until this momentary insanity passes. Really, he is. All he wants is to be allowed these small moments of excitement. To keep them for himself. He has no intention of doing anything else.

Saga lives his life as he always does.

Ritsu observes from the background with the all encompassing fascination that’s taken hold of him against his will. He can’t help it that he notices things.

Like how despite being a borderline social recluse, Saga is wildly popular. He gets confessed to fairly often, by a lot of girls. Sometimes he accepts, sometimes he doesn’t. Ritsu can’t seem to figure out the pattern enough to establish why. Either way, it doesn’t matter, because none of the relationships last long.

At first, Ritsu is relieved by that, although he has no right to be. Not when he’s as much of a coward as he is and has never even truly spoken to him. As he keeps watching from his safe distance, though, he only gets confused as it happens over and over again.

Ritsu notices that Saga… doesn’t care much about the world around him. He blocks out a lot. He just sits at his table in the study area for hours. The library appears to be an escape for him, like it is for Ritsu. He has books, manga, and girls all at his disposal, but he never looks happy. They all seem to serve as nothing more than some kind of distraction.

Ritsu sees it, when no one is looking at Saga but him. He’s held hostage by the furrow of Saga’s brow. The heaviness in his eyes. The apathetic disconnect behind his frown when he looks at other people while Ritsu looks at him.

He’s lonely. Like Ritsu.

That draws Ritsu to him all the more. He’s never seen anyone else but him with that look in his eyes. Unlike him, though, Saga has this easy confidence that pours from every move he makes that Ritsu envies desperately. Once he notices, he can’t look away, no matter how hard he tries. And he tries.

This is really starting to become a problem.

I can stop whenever I want, Ritsu tells himself every time he finds himself peeking at Saga from behind the bookshelf.

I can stop whenever I want, he reminds himself when he takes the book Saga places on the return cart and pours over it. It’s a small thing, but reading the same books as Saga makes him more real. More human.

I can stop whenever I want, he swears as he erases his name under Saga’s on the library card and writes a shortened version instead. Dear god he would die of mortification if Saga ever checked out one of the books again and saw Ritsu’s real name. Oda doesn’t feel quite right, but that’s fine. It’s a lie. It’s not supposed to. He really has a problem.

I can stop whenever I want, he orders himself to believe, even though he really can’t.

It’s fine. This will pass. Because it has to. It’s fine it’s fine it’s fine.

So I was busy with classes and I’m currently working on my first novel and some short stories and then I was/am abroad (going back in two days!) for the past three weeks and also for the past two months I’ve been deep in a love affair/obsession/special interest with KinnPorsche but I’ve briefly awoken from all these projects for my nostalgic (hehe) fave to participate in TakaRitsu week! @takaritsuweek notice me senpai

Day 1: Cherry Blossoms

Cherry blossoms hold a special place in Ritsu’s heart.

They represent new beginnings, that breath taking moment of youth as a first love ignites with a maiden’s heart. 

Or maybe Ritsu just reads too much shoujo manga for his own good 

But it’s still one of his favorite scenes, a timeless and simple trope that just makes an audience swoon as the heroine has a chance encounter, a heartfelt confession, or even just a realization. It’s a perfect moment for any high school romance, and those are always one of the most popular chapters.

Were the cherry blossoms in bloom when he fell in love with Saga-Senpai? 

But cherry blossoms were always perfect to represent a shift in the story, the signal of a different start, a different time, a different life. 

There are no cherry blossoms when he’s transferred to Emerald, there’s no magical moment signaling the start of a new era for him, away from the grasp of his parents. 

But it’s not even that time if the year, spring passed and all cherry blossoms long gone, shriveled away with the coming warmth of summer, when he transfers to a new world. 

What will the shoujo department here be like, Ritsu had mused on his first day. Will it be a more traditional looking office? Or will they try to capture the spirit of it all with stuffed animals and pink and lace and flowers? 

He never gets to learn the answer though, as he quickly finds himself in the most boring looking office in existence in the literature department of all things. 

There are no cherry blossoms to be found here, no appreciation for their symbolic meaning, their role in an innocent first love, just eerily relaxed coworkers. Maybe it’s early in the cycle? Books do tend to take a bit longer, so maybe it results in a longer one? 

It’s not that Ritsu doesn't love books- he’s always been an avid reader and holds respect for the editors helping works become truly great-but shoujo was his, and it’s been plucked away from him. 

It has nothing to do with Saga-senpai, that’d be ridiculous, Ritsu is an adult who’s moved on from his foolish first love. 

Kisa might have some fondness for cherry blossoms, given the man’s penchant for editing romance novels, but the others? The chances are slim to none.

His boss Takano, that annoying, gruff man, definitely has no appreciation for cherry blossoms. Ritsu may have been the demon of the shoujo department, but Takano could give him a run for his money with his ruthless cynicism and the way he barks order.He’s awful and insensitive and is actually Saga-senpai and holds this idiotic idea that he’ll make Ritsu love him again with a confession Ritsu definitely didn’t get flustered over. 

It was just similar to some of the stuff he’s edited, that’s it! 

But despite all that, Ritsu does hold some respect for the man and wants to learn at least something from him. He’s in literature now and Ritsu doesn’t half ass his work, no matter what people would say.

It’s after watching Takano give critics and praise to an author’s manuscript, Ritsu gets the courage to ask the question that’s been lingering in his mind this past week. Between the unexpected department and Saga-senpai being his boss and his boss living next door, he feels like he’s been all over the place, completely out of his depth. 

“Takano-san, do you think maybe I could one day be a good literary editor?” Ritsu murmurs. He braces himself for the hard truth. He’s barely even started,how arrogant can he be? Ritsu would be laughed out of the shoujo department if he’d asked this in his first week. 

But watching Takano, shadowing him in hopes of figuring out what he’s even supposed to do-Ritsu needs to know if it’s even worth the risk of him trying a completely new department. 

Takano stops walking for a second, and turns around to look at him. Ritsu feels like his eyes are glaring into his soul. 

“You’re on the right path, Onodera. Stop worrying so much.” Takano says, making a mess of Ritsu’s hair, and then just wandering off like he’s always done these past couple of days after saying something that takes Ritsu completely off guard. 

There are no cherry blossoms falling as Takano walks away from him, but all Ritsu can think of at this moment is Takano’s hand ruffling in his hair, making his cheeks grow warm. 

Shit.

Probably such a brain fart but…

When I started rewatching Sekai ichi Hatsukoi Saturday, I wasn’t just taken by a wave of nostalgia

…an AU set in the scenario of Sekaiichi Hatsukoi

With Akai Shuuichi (Sera Shuuichi) and Furuya Rei – respectively as Takano Masamune (Saga Masamune) and Onodera Ritsu

Obviously it theoretically would work well with Amuro canonically having different names with the same face but I figure he’s just too recognisable, also–

This was inspired by the fact that the German Dub of Sekai ichi Hatsukoi features the German dubbing actor of Bourbon/ Amuro/ Furuya Rei as the voice of Onodera Ritsu

I was freaking out at first but I actually can see it, specifically considering Zero no Tea Time – between that Amuro and Onodera, it’s easy to see the parallel and with that in mind I thing the dubbing actor was a great choice even if I was very sceptical at first

And the Takano-Akai parallel kinda writes itself, stoic but caring, passionate about his career, determined to deliver the best work he can, cold and gruff but actually has a soft spot for his colleagues, seeming remarkably callous

…I’m really going to start writing this wip within the next week, huh? I already have 7 open DCMK fanfics (a couple of which aren’t online yet) and the “Now You See Me” AU so far is also just a stub… gaaaah

C: What character do you identify with most? Mh from AoT? I think I'm a mix between Erwin, Arming and Historia... Probably more like Erwin and Historia. I feel like my overall personality matches Historia more but my train of thought and ambition for stuff matches Erwin more. So probably that, if they ever had a child that would be me lmao. I mean Historia because I had always felt a lot of the necessity to be a "good girl" or a "good person" and family talking it has always been some sort expected of me to be the "sunshine who is always raising everybody's mood and smile all the time". I had even been added to work zoom meetings to "ease the tension and make everybody get along,". Meanwhile, I feel like Erwin represents more the version I'm with my closest friends, who washes away a bit of the "good girl" expectations I've on myself. Plus, I can be a sly nightmare when I desire lol, which is not regular. G: Care to share a favorite crack fic? Uhhh this was in Spanish, I don't even know if it still exists. It was from a page for Junjou Romantica's place for fics (yes I used to read BL mangas)and it was that all the characters from Junjou Romantica and Sekaiichi Hatsukoi moved on the same building and it was HILARIOUS. I laughed for hours back in the day! Like everything was so chaotic and stupid. Plus, it was written by someone who was "probably" from Mexico and imagining Usagi talking in Méxican Spanish made me crack all the time. The girl never finished, a part of me died that day. T: Any fandom tropes you can’t stand? Ay... I'm gonna get a lot of hate for this one but anything related to Mermaids, Fairies and royals Au. I don't know Mermaids are something I've never been into even as a little girl, I think I've never finished watching "the little mermaid" because I just don't get it... I mean I get the plot, just not the mermaids. I prefer Greek mythology mermaids and they are super creepy stuff lmao. Faires are more on the same and Royals Au because I kinda never vibe with them? Which doesn't mean they are bad or wrong, just not my cup of tea. I like Game of Thrones or House of the Dragon kind of Royals, where everybody is really messed up, sleeping with their cousins... like probably real royals lmao. Incest was a huge problem in royalty not until long ago lmao.

S: Any fandom tropes you can’t resist? Mafia, end of the world/apocalypse/zombies and, my dirty secret, Omagaverse. Sorry, I will say it 100 times if I've to, Omegaverse sometimes is the only way people would touch misogyny, sexism and political topics in fics if they are well written. It's a matter of turning one male character into an omega and suddenly all the fics turn into huge political debates with huge misogyny topics that make the plot really interesting. I'm not saying all Omagevarse fics are like that but some of them are and I love reading about them. Like good Omegaverse is like the whole plot of "handmaids tale" and that show is THE BOOM.
