When Lip brings home an advanced android in order to test it for the company he works for, Ian doesn't know what to make of him. MIK-940810, or Mickey, seems virtually indistinguishable from a human being, throwing Ian for a loop as he feels an undeniable connection to the android. Their relationship deepens when Ian finds out about something that Mickey has been keeping from Lip and the people who built him. --- There’s a faint blue light shining from the place where Lip’s thumb rests for about two seconds. Ian’s expecting some kind of whirring noise, like when you turn a computer on, but there’s just silence. And then suddenly the blue eyes come alive.

“Why the hell are you here, Ian?” Mickey’s tone is defeated, and his shoulders barely hold their shape. He’s tired. Exhausted, really. Ian can see that in every line of his body, every curve of his face. There’s so much that Ian wants to say to him, so much he wants to scream across this phone line connecting them, but he can’t. His head is a mess, in more ways than one, and no matter how fast he tries to parse through his tidal wave of emotions, he can’t figure them out. He broke up with Mickey. Right? Only now, he can’t really remember why. “I don’t know,” Ian says honestly, and hopes it’s enough. (It’s not.)

Wanderlust: Before the 90 Days

Ian Gallagher wants a boyfriend. He wants all of the romantic crap he sees in movies. He isn't having any luck in Chicago, so in a moment of weakness, he signs up for the dating site HotPinkInternational! Enter Piotr. He's 28, from Poland and they fall hard and fast. When money gets tight and Ian can't afford to travel to meet him, he auditions for a new 90 Day Fiance spin-off called: Wanderlust. He will fly out to Poland to meet Piotr and then they will travel together for three months. It's like a dream come true when he's cast.

A week before his trip, the cameraman he'd gotten to know is replaced by a brash but facinating well-travelled Mickey Milkovich, nicknamed Warzone because he's spent so much time embedded with the military.

One way or another, Ian's life will never be the same.

When Ian Gallagher, omega protection attorney with his family’s law firm Gallagher & Gallagher, goes to investigate an incident of sexual assault that happened at a nightclub called DNA in the South Side, he finds a little more than he bargained for in the club’s “Alpha” boss, Mickey Milkovich. Together, Ian and Mickey attempt to figure out how the assault happened, but their investigation comes to a screeching halt when Mickey suddenly goes into heat.

Kicking off the weekend with my art for the Shameless Big Bang! I had the pleasure of doing art for the lovely @sam-loves-seb and her absolute gem of a fic i'm not the way i was. Shoutout to @whaticameherefor for wrangling the event into shape!

Materials: Oil pastel, pastel pencil

Mickey swings open the front door, coming face to face with probably the last person he wants to see.

He throws his shirt over his head and tugs it down, watching the quick flicker of Ian’s eyes roaming over his body.

“Oh,” Mickey says plainly, tiredly. He doesn’t have the energy for the melodrama tonight—he just doesn’t. “The fuck are you doing here?”

If he’s being honest, he has no idea what he actually expects Ian to say.

What he doesn’t expect, though, is to watch Ian stand there with pink cheeks and a slack-jawed expression, fumbling for words he couldn’t seem to speak.

He doesn’t expect Ian to look so… lost.

Round 12 is here!

Hey guys! Hope you are all doing well here in Tumblandia and out in the real world. It's been a minute but we are happy to announce another round of the Shameless Big Bang! There have been some updates that we're excited to share as we kick off another turn.

Since I have been quite busy and don't want to spread myself too thin this time around, @wehangout is back to help keep things running again this round, and @whaticameherefor is joining as well. I am so happy to have them on board so that we can keep the tradition alive <3

As a reminder, we are sticking with the original format of completing your work before posting. If you plan to participate, please try to be mindful of that when you commit. Also, while most people are good about staying in touch, we have people every round who have issues with communicating and responding to emails. We are going to continue to take a more strict approach with that if people aren’t responsive, especially once authors and artists are paired off and the posting dates get closer. We will not be confirming your sign up until the last day, so please wait until after then to reach out if you don't hear from us.

Please consider these things before signing up. Without further ado, here’s the timeline for the next round.

August 8 – Sign-Ups open

September 18 – First author checkpoint and LAST DAY TO SIGN UP

October 23 – Rough drafts due

October 30 – Summary previews for artists

November 3 – Artist claims open (authors and artists will be paired up on a first come, first served basis)

December 1 – First artist and second author checkpoint 

December 15 – Second artist and third (and FINAL) author checkpoint

December 22– Posting Schedule will be announced

January 1 – Posting begins!

Please enjoy these extra notes regarding things that appear in my Shameless Big Bang fic Last Night at the Verona Grand Hotel, in order of appearance. Also now listed in the work endnotes on AO3 (but without the pictures).

This post contains lots of spoilers for the fic.

The train that Mickey takes from Chicago to Los Angeles is an Amtrak route called the Southwest Chief.

Mickey reads Treasure Island as a reference to Loftec’s fic Take this waltz.

The green popsicle is Melona.

I went for fictionalized geography around where exactly the hotel is, but the descriptions of the view on the drive up are based on pictures of Los Liones Trail.

The Verona Grand is, of course, inspired by the early years of the Chateau Marmont, but also crossed with a creepy old hotel I’ve stayed at in Colorado. The name is a reference to the setting of Romeo and Juliet plus the Neptune Grand from Veronica Mars (for that sunshine noir energy).

The Mark of Zorro (1920): Full disclaimer, unlike Mickey, I didn’t watch the whole thing (I didn’t have the good incentive of looking for my crush), but the moments I referenced are here and here.

(About ten years ago, I went to an outdoor movie screening that had been advertised as The Mask of Zorro but turned out to be The Mark of Zorro; after about 30 minutes, we all gave up and went home. Sorry, Douglas Fairbanks! We wanted Antonio.)

Hunter’s name is a reference to 1950s actor Tab Hunter, who came out as gay in 2005. (One of his long-term relationships was with Anthony Perkins of Psycho fame, after they met at the Chateau Marmont.)

KY Jelly has been around since the early 1900s (!). Here’s some of the vintage packaging. We’ll just assume Mickey was distracted and didn’t look too closely at the tube (or thought it was pretentiously packaged hipster lube; thanks for that idea, Deanna!).

Mickey calls Davie “Nurse Ratched” as a reference to One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest; the actress who played her in the original movie, Louise Fletcher, played Frank’s mother in season 2 of Shameless.

Nerve pills: These are fictionalized (I don’t know how well they worked or what they tasted like; probably not nice!) but they’re based on Carter’s Little Nervine Pills, the active ingredient of which was extract of hyoscyamus, which (if my Googling is correct) is henbane. Henbane is quite toxic and can cause hallucinations. It was commonly associated with witchcraft, since ointment made with it could cause people to see things and feel like they were flying. Never change, early 20th century medicine.

Another one of the compounds in henbane is scopolamine, which can be used to treat motion sickness. This worked well for my purposes because I had decided that the sickness Ian and Mickey experience when they stay in the wrong time is a cousin to motion sickness (if traveling through space too fast can make you feel sick, why not traveling through time?).

The concept of quantum entanglement is the other one in my mind when I think about what “connects” them each to their own time, but don’t ask me any follow-up questions on that, because honestly I’m not great at physics and I don’t totally understand it. Storytelling-wise, I just like the idea of things being connected to each other on a submolecular level. I refer to this in Two of Your Earth Minutes, as well, for the same reason.

Mickey also makes a reference to the idea of the observer effect. (Lotta quantum mechanics in this dang ghost story!!)

The new movie Ian is going to audition for is A Woman of Paris, directed by Charlie Chaplin.

I think he would have gotten it, don't you?
