yourusername welcome back to my postgame penalty box update show: WHO RUNS THE WORLD? QUINN! edition!
with his first assist on laffy taffy's goal, quinn got his 250th career point! this makes him the second fastest active defenseman to reach 250 points in under 300 games! he did it in 292 games, which equaled the 12th fewest of all time!
but let's not forget the other two assists tonight! his three assists tonight gave him his 48th career multi-point game, his 19th three point game, and his 14th three assists game! he now has 18 total career assists against nashville, which ties his total against the oilers for the most assists he has against any one team! (note that he's played the oilers more because of the 20-21 season where van played them 10 times)
john said that it's "a hughes lead in the east and the west" during the game, and here's why:
quinn has 11 points, so he is 1st for dmen, and tied for 7th overall! he also has a (+/-) of +11, which leads THE ENTIRE LEAGUE!
jack leads the entire league in points AND assists with 18 and 13, and luke is tied for second for all rookies in points and assists!
quinn and luke are tied for 4th in power play points for dmen overall, luke is 2nd for all rookies, and jack is tied for 1st for all skaters!
i’m so proud of my nuckies for their 5-2 win against the preds, my brothers, and most of all, my best friend💙 i love you way past infinity!
p.s. PETEY! MY BLONDE KING! INSTEAD OF GOING TRICK-OR-TREATING, YOU WENT HAT-TRICKING! congratulations on your second career hatty, and your first at home! i love you, and i’m so proud of you! keep an eye out for your hatty medal in the mail!
p.s.s. quinn is the first player in CANUCKS HISTORY to have a +10 rating during the first seven games! i asked for a record breaking season, and i’m getting it!

yourusername @_quinnhughes it was 87.5% your pictures! not including the one of you and demmer, that's 75% your pictures! and out of 22 sentences, 13 are just pertaining to you and only you, which is 59.091%, and 2 more include you, which brings you up to 15 sentences making the caption 68.1818% yours! so out of 22 sentences and we'll say 8 pictures (30 parts), 19 parts are only about you which makes the post 63.333% JUST yours, and 22/30 parts include you, which makes the post 73.333% about you! hi love, hope you're well! i was wondering if you have any recs for slow burn or hurt/comfort type of fics? appreciate your work and hope you stay safe <3 -n
Hello dear n! I was steadily working on this whenever I have free time but this still took a long time. Thank you for patiently waiting.
A lot of fics I recommended under personal favorites actually fit your request. But here are some more fics (limited at 1 fic per author but check out their other works too!) tagged slow burn and/or hurt/comfort I rec:
All Our Yesterdays by @kitsunebi-uk [E, 1M]
York, England, 2120: Yuuri Katsuki is a dime-a-dozen techie, spending his days doing routine repairs at the university. He hangs out with his friend Phichit, goes for a drink, watches holograms. It’s an existence – but is it a life?
Crowood Castle, Yorkshire, 1392: As the son of a baron, Sir Victor Nikiforov makes judgements where lives hang in the balance. As a knight, he must sometimes end them. It’s what he was born to do – but what of the heavy burden on his soul? Death is all too commonplace, while life and love remain elusive.
When a brilliant scientist goes rogue, journeying to the Middle Ages with the world’s first time machine, Yuuri is stunned to be called on as the last hope of preventing her from changing history. After an abrupt departure, he lands at Crowood Castle disguised as an enemy of the Nikiforovs, Sir Justin le Savage – and will need to act the part if he is to survive. It’s a tall order for someone who can barely tell the back end of a horse from the front. But if Ailis, in her own disguise, discovers who he is, his mission will end in a blaze of laser-gun fire. He must not give his real identity away, even to the beguiling knight he’s falling in love with…
Beside the Dancing Sea by lily_winterwood / @omgkatsudonplease [E, ?] *Being edited and reuploaded
He’s finally here in this lovely and quiet little beach cottage, and the rest of the year seems to stretch out infinitely before him. Time will pass, though, and it will pass faster than he realises, but in the meantime he will stop worrying about writer’s block and deadlines and not even having the foggiest clue what his next novel’s going to be about, and live.
New York Times-bestselling author Viktor Nikiforov arrives in the sleepy seaside town of Torvill Cove to cure his writer's block. After encountering local wallflower Yuuri Katsuki at a party, he discovers that this mysterious dark-haired man has a couple secrets up his sleeve.
And Viktor will be damned if he doesn't find out just what those secrets are.
Dot, Dash, Star* by saltwreath [T, 29K]
People with soulmates were blessed with lights like stars. Viktor Nikiforov was born without one, Katsuki Yuuri would have two, and Yuri Plisetsky pretended he had none.
They find each other anyway.
it's the side effects that save us by renaissance [T 71K]
After a sudden personal tragedy and a narrow defeat at the Grand Prix Final, Viktor is ready to throw it all away—until he sees a video of the skater who beat him performing the free skate he couldn't.
Or; plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose...
Love in Exile by @martymusesloveinexile [E, 99K]
Once a well know ballet dancer in St. Petersburg, Victor Nikiforov finds himself exiled to Sakhalin Island as a political convict in 1881. As a man sentenced to katorga he will never return to European Russia or his life on the stage. Known as the "Edge of the World," his life on Sakhalin could not be further from the life he once knew. Strange circumstances lead his path to cross that of a young Japanese man, one of the very few still living on the island. Katsuki Yuuri leads a life of exile of a different kind, one that is largely self-imposed. Drawn to each other, despite their differences, something slowly begins to grow between them. When a narrowly avoided tragedy leaves them stranded together for a long, cold Sakhalin winter, they are challenged to face what their relationship really means, and what future it could possibly have.
My Name On Your Lips by feelslikefire [E, 108K]
Yuuri Katsuki has been betrothed to the High King's son, Victor, since he was just a child; furthermore, as an omega, he's forbidden from practicing magic in combat. For years, he's been able to put off the former because the Prince was traveling abroad, and gotten around the latter by practicing with his mentor in secret.
Now Victor Nikiforov has finally returned home, and Yuuri is being summoned to the capital for their wedding. He needs a plan to put off marriage long enough to find a way to break the betrothal, while keeping his practicing from being discovered.
If only the Prince didn't have other ideas.
The Noblest Form of Affection by @lucycamui [E, 38K]
The duty of a valet appears deceptively simple on the surface: his sole job is to wait upon his master. Yuuri prides himself on his skills as a valet, but will the challenges and heartaches that come hand in hand with serving the lovely and eccentric Mister Nikiforov prove to be too great a hurdle?
Nuclear Hearts Club by butterbeerbitch / @the-tortellini-man [T, 84K]
He remembers his sister made being seventeen look like life was happening harder than it ever did. All those big, brutal feelings.
And he’s here now, and it's untangling in a pace too fast for him to hold onto anything. Something's starting and something's ending, and it makes sense until it doesn't, and he's stuck somewhere in the middle thinking it won't ever stop feeling like this.
All this changing in a town where nothing ever does.
-
Being seventeen in the middle of nowhere isn't supposed to be a walk in the park. Add being crazy in love with your brother's best friend to the equation, and it’s safe to say you’re cosmically fucked for life.
Good thing Yuuri Katsuki's not used to having nice things.
Rivals series by Reiya / @kazliin [E, 452K]
An altered universe where a single event changes the course of both Yuuri and Viktor's lives, a rivalry is formed that spans across many years and both of them tell a very different side to the story
same song, different dance by @crossroadswrite [T, 88K] *WIP
The line is silent for a moment, as Yuuri stands there, fingers getting progressively colder as he hears Minako breathe in his ear, not really willing to hang up first.
“The Grand Prix is just around the corner,” Minako says, her tone almost wistful.
He breathes out slowly to steady himself. “It is.”
“… Are you going to watch it?”
Yuuri shouldn’t. He knows it’ll feel awful to watch everyone he knows trying their best at something he loves when he can’t anymore. But it’s Phichit’s first year in the Grand Prix, and Victor’s competing, so…
“Of course,” he says, and is proud of how steady his voice comes out. He doesn’t know if it’s a lie or not.
(Or: in which Yuuri's Stammi Vicino skate never gets posted and he retires, Victor keeps himself skating for better or for worse, Yuri struggles with his debut, and missed opportunities have a way of righting themselves.)
Tadaima by @stammiviktor [T, 12K]
After decades of wandering, Viktor finds a home in the Katsuki family.

Doc Drop: Sonadow Edition
“A date!” Sonic repeats, grinning from ear to ear and his muzzle colored in a curious pink. “I’ll take you out on a date!”
“You must be joking.” Shadow deadpans. “I’m not gonna forget the bullshit you pulled just because you took me to see a movie.”
“What if the movie was really good?”
“No.”
“I’m kidding.” Sonic laughs and rests a hand on his shoulder. “I wouldn’t take the ultimate life form on a movie date.”
“You won’t take me anywhere—”
“I’d take him on a run!” The blur snatches at his hand and yanks him forward, causing Shadow to stumble the first few steps before quickly adjusting his footing and skating right beside him.
“This isn’t a date.” Shadow says, turning down a road and hopping onto a row of oncoming cars.
“Dates don’t have to be romantic, you know.” Sonic chides, leading them up a fire escape with swift leaps from ladder to ladder.
They jump from roof to roof, both hedgehogs in a matching pace, and fall under a silent focus as they take past a skyscraper. Both see the height and immediately change direction, taking the long way up in unison. They leave streaks of blue and orange in their wake, lighting the building up like a tall, reflective Christmas tree.
It’s Shadow who makes it to the top first, panting in victory, and grinning at the blinking radio light in satisfaction. A tenth of a second passes and Sonic shoots up into the sky beside him with a delighted screech, warbling into the distance the higher he goes.
He squints up, scanning the night sky for azure blue quills, and only seeing fog. The clouds part and the hint of stars temporarily accompany his wait when the screeching comes back.
“Hand out, hand out, hand out!” He shouts on his way down, effectively getting Shadow to brace his arm out to catch him.
Shadow eyes the blur as he falls and angles his arm, determined to catch the obnoxious blue banshee and throttle him into silence. But his plans are thrown into the wind after the mentioned annoyance tucks into a ball and spin-dashes back down the scraper.
He looks over the edge after him, watching in indignant fury as the ball rolls down at lightning speed, with Sonic’s giddy and maniacal chortle lagging a few moments after his descent back down. Shadow scans ahead of the projected course to find a landing spot. He sees the path stop at a nearby rooftop and teleports there in an instant, smirking at Sonic’s flushed face when he arrives.
“Cheater.”
“You started it.”

hi, k! since you opened your inbox for hockey asks, here we go...
one you told me your team was the same as ferrari in the sense of the teams' management being harmful to the athletes' performance. could you explain exactly how it happens? i'm curious!
nikka i am kissing you on the forehead because i love this question, but this explanation is also very long so im hiding it under the cut but i hope you enjoy!
k ama: hockey edition!
ok so back story time. from about 2008-2012, the canucks (my team) were a very good team. because of the nhl's salary cap, this means that in order to stay very good and competitive for the stanley cup, they were implementing a strategy called "going all in" which means they were trading future draft picks and spending all their money to make sure the team was good in the present, even if it meant that the team would be worse in the future.
in 2011, the canucks were very very good. one of the best in the nhl. they had won the president's trophy, the award for the team with the most points at the end of the regular season (so the best team in the league, it is the equivalent of a football team winning their league and then going into the cl), and they had so many amazing players. they made a run to the stanley cup finals and lost in game 7 (sports trauma for me as a kid). because they lost though, they needed to trade and let some players leave so they could build up the team to be good again the next year, and have the salaries fit under the cap.
the next year in 2012, they also won the presidents trophy, but they were out in the first round of the playoffs (like the knockout stages of the cl). same as in 2013. now the organization is in a bit of a panic, because they have sacrificed players who could play for them in the future in order to get players who can play well for them now, but the team isn't performing like they expect them to.
this is when the spiral started. the team was playing bad, so a lot of the young players who we drafted had to play on the nhl team too early, before they were ready to, which lead to their player development being stunted when they were playing in the higher leagues before their skating ability and strength had developed. a lot of them were also too young, and having all the pressure of being in the highest league in a city crazy about hockey led to them burning out of the nhl and not filling their potential.
the team also took a lot of bets on players that didn't pan out for one reason or another, either because they were put into a role that they weren't ready for or because they were given too much responsibility, but either way they didn't thrive and sometimes haven't played for a good nhl team, or even in the nhl at all, since they left the canucks. the list is endless juolevi, virtanen, goldobin, granlund, stetcher, macewan, and those are just a few of many.
the team has gone through many phases since 2011, but they have hit rock bottom like three times and still haven't really bounced out of it. the player development thing is better now, but a lot of our superstar players are stuck on a mediocre, mid table team that doesn't seem to be changing drastically to improve. of course i have hope, i want to see hughes and pettersson and demko and the rest of our young star players to win a cup together (and i want to see the city of vancouver get a stanley cup. we deserve it) but realistically,,, we aren't ready and it has been this cycle since 2012/2013.

Will you be sharing your thoughts on the RD and FD again? :)
Let's do this, RD recap NHK edition:
KoKo: looking better here than they did all season, still slow and tentative but also solid and dependable for the most part. I would have had them with 68.
Orihara/Pirinen: really growing on me, speed wise they are much better than KoKo, performance wise too, without the shaky twizzles they would have been ahead of KoKo and I agree with that.
Wang/Liu: were kind of WUZROBBED here, as always they are charismatic together and the program is kind of fun, but their PCS were 2-3 points lower than before and the GOEs also conservative. This is the price of barely competing at all in the past 3 years.
Wolfkostin/Chen: did nothing for me if I'm being honest... levels were bad, program is bad (MIDA really stuck them with two bad programs) and there's no star quality there. Not sure I see them going places with how deep the US dance field is.
KanaDai: on the upside, they looked much better here than at SA so kudos to them for that, on the downside that skate should have scored 71-72 at best, and to see them get 75 is infuriating. The fact that their bad lift got +1.17 GOE is unacceptable, and their levels are a good reminder that the levels calling at challengers are bogus af (looking at you Denis Ten Memorial for giving them all level 3 & 4). The gap between them and KoKo should be 3-4 points at most.
Lopareva/Brissaud: another team that is suffering from having Gui's choreography. The skate was shaky and tentative and it's becoming more and more clear that both their programs this season are not doing them any favors.
Reed/Ambrulevičius: are really stepping up their game and I love seeing it. Aside from the lift that got little speed and ice coverage the rest and especially the midline was very well executed and their levels were great with them having the 2nd highest BV of the day.
Green/Parsons: looking much improved here so kudos on that. Speed was better and performance levels were better, the levels though were bad and they should thank their PCS and GOEs for that 3rd place finish. Their RD is growing on me, their FD remains a dud.
Canadanes: Felt a bit tight and tentative for me but still managed to give a strong performance. Loved seeing their levels return to be their strength as it was before - level 4 pattern and level 3 for both on the midline and the best BV of the day which made the difference between 2nd and 1st. The FD is their weakness so I really hope they can deliver a strong performance tomorrow.
Chock/Bates: it's not clicking for me. Not the program and not how they are delivering it. Evan, which is one of the best lifters in ice dance delivered yet another shaky lift, but it was Madison's level 1 midline that cost them the lead. I want to see how their FD will look like following the changes but overall it doesn't seem like they can pull a gold at GPF with how they are skating.
Hope you enjoyed the recap, send me a reminder for the FD too LO

Edit anon here! By edit I mean making something like a pic spam or mood board. I’m still new to making them, but it’s loads of fun and I enjoy making them for series and media I like.
Physical descriptions would be great if you’re comfortable with it. I asked if you had a personal fancast just to make it more in line with what you were thinking. 🙂
Ooooh gotcha, go for it!
Some descriptions under the cut:
Anne's mixed race (white dad, Chinese-Canadian mom), five foot- something, at least half a foot to a foot shorter than Freddy. In her late twenties is a curvy gal. She wasn't when she was skating, but though as Freddy observes, though she was in Olympic shape then, that wasn't the best shape for her naturally. (Her diet was a little too strict, and she overtrained.) Had long black hair she usually wore tied up with a ribbon for most of her life, but when feeling very depressed about how Freddy was getting together with Louisa during Ice Dancing with the Stars, had a dramatic haircut, so now it's shoulder length. Retro style-- looks to the 60s for inspiration, especially to Audrey Hepburn and the French yé-yé girls. Pre-shattering her knee, she really liked pastel colors, sheath dresses, and preferred skirts over pants-- though most of the time she was usually in her school uniform or skating "uniform" of white skates, leggings, long-sleeved boatneck top, and warm-up jacket. Still prefers boatneck tops though she hasn't felt very pastel since her figure skating career ended, and now prefers pants/leggings of some kind, Breton stripes, and black (though part of the reason she's got so much black is because she's stage manager). Someone people tend to refer to as elegant or refined, and who's pretty in a delicate way as per canon. Brown eyes; looks much more like her mother than her other two sisters. Shy, but very sweet smile. Has what older people would describe as a "kind face," i.e. the sort of face that makes people feel comfortable telling her their life story either several drinks or just several days into knowing her.
Freddy's Mohawk/ First Nations/ Indigenous. Over six feet, and is at least a half a foot to a foot taller than Anne, and very built since his jock-like method of dealing with emotional issues is working out until he's too exhausted to feel upset any longer. Broad shouldered. Brown-eyed; wears his dark-ish brown hair in a hockey flow, long enough to look good under a helmet or a toque, but not long enough to put up in a ponytail. Clean-shaven except for playoffs (it's a common superstition that if you're in the playoffs and winning, you don't shave). Looks great in suits, but wears joggers, t-shirts, and hoodies unless contractually obligated to do otherwise. Has tattoos, including the Olympic rings on his bicep, and a tattoo commemorating his Stanley cup win on his ribs. Probably has more, all of which reflect some kind of big win or victory for him personally or professionally, but those are the ones that are clearest in my mind, haha. Handsome face, and somehow has managed not to lose any teeth while having played hockey all his life, which I think is mostly due to the fact that he's an exceptionally good, fast, and fluid skater, so the only times he gets hit in the face is when he gets in a fight, or someone sticks him/ does something that leads to a fight.
lmk if you need other characters!

Breakaway by Grace Reilly is now live!
The BookTok sensation: a spicy coach’s daughter college sports romance, second in the Beyond the Play series, with new exclusive content in this edition!
A secret friends-with-benefits arrangement with the hockey coach’s daughter shouldn’t have a shot in the dark of leading to more…
Cooper
As a pro-bound college athlete with a good-time reputation, I usually have my pick of puck bunnies. But lately, I’ve been in a dry spell that feels more like a curse, and the stress is affecting my game—the one thing that can’t happen if I’m going to make team captain, and eventually the NHL.
Enter Penny Ryder.
She’s my coach’s daughter, but the moment she pulls me into that ice rink closet, she’s the one thing on my mind besides hockey. She has a sex bucket list, and each item on it confirms we’re kindred spirits in the bedroom. If I say yes, I’ll be relaxed on the ice again—but if her dad finds out, I’ll be forced to say goodbye to being captain and finally earning my own father’s approval.
Penny
Thanks to the ex from hell, I’m a long way from being ready for a relationship—but it’s time to reclaim my agency, one long-sought-after experience in bed at a time.
Enter Cooper Callahan.
He’s my dad’s star defenseman; an arrangement with him will mean keeping yet another major secret from my father. But the agreement we strike is simple: secret friends-with-benefits until he makes captain…and I cross off everything on my list, so I can finally move on from the incident that ruined both my life and my figure skating career.
Yet the longer our connection goes on, the more we trust each other, and the less I want to say goodbye. I know love leads to heartbreak, but what if it can also clear the ice for a breakaway?
Filled with swoons, spice coaching, sports, and book nerds in love, Breakaway is a don’t-miss adult college sports romance.

Skate Scene Magazine - 1999 Special Edition In the dynamic and competitive realm of skateboarding, a fresh talent has emerged, captivating the community with his skill and audacity: Brian Houchins. As an amateur on the Element Skateboards team, Houchins has risen rapidly, capturing the attention and admiration of the late '90s skate scene. Renowned for executing intricate flip tricks and navigating complex urban settings with ease, Houchins is setting new standards in street skateboarding.
Tumblr media
A standout moment in Houchins' burgeoning career occurred at the famed downtown fountain—a challenging spot revered by many skaters. Demonstrating exceptional skill and finesse, Houchins executed a perfect nollie flip over the fountain's vast gap, earning respect and awe from spectators and fellow skaters. This feat alone has cemented his reputation as a fearless innovator in the sport. Yet, it was at the well-known marble bench where Houchins truly left his mark. With unparalleled technical skill and artistic expression, he completed a 360 flip to crooked grind, seamlessly transitioning to a backside flip out. This sequence, emblematic of his technical skill and stylistic elegance, has become a model for skaters worldwide, illustrating Houchins' influence on the evolution of skateboarding. Element Skateboards, celebrated for its emphasis on quality and progression, sees Houchins as the embodiment of its values. His commitment to skateboarding and his role in inspiring both seasoned skaters and newcomers have made him a key figure within the Element roster. As skateboarding evolves, embracing new techniques and challenging the status quo, Brian Houchins shines as a source of innovation and motivation. His transition from amateur to seminal figure in skateboarding speaks to his dedication, creativity, and the essence of the skate culture. Looking ahead to the new millennium, the skateboarding world is keenly observing Houchins as he continues to push the boundaries of what's achievable with a skateboard. With his sights set on future challenges, one thing is certain: skateboarding's horizon is luminous, with Brian Houchins leading the way forward. About Skate Scene Magazine: Skate Scene Magazine remains the definitive source for skateboarding culture, offering deep dives into the lives of rising stars, and the latest movements and techniques defining the sport. Keep an eye out for further stories that delve into the core of skateboarding's vibrant culture.
