that all sounds pretty fun! now im curious about what your favorite skin care products are, do you have a whole planned out routine or do you just try random stuff?

It is! And no I don't have a routine at all, because I work from home I just have a bajillion bottles of skincare stuff on my desk, and at this point I sort of know if my skin is ready for something light or something thick, so I'll pick a serum or essence or toner or moisturizer or whatever and put it on randomly throughout the day. Adapalene is a pretty reliable presence at some point during the week, but my "holy grail" products are far and few between. Honestly if I've learned anything from trying an absurd number of different products, it's that most expensive skincare is overrated and it's very rare to find a product that's SO good it's literally irreplaceable.

At present I have like a doomsday prepper stockpile of skincare products to go through and try because any time I see a good deal on something I haven't tried yet I buy it, plus I have a bin full of samples, and the only products that I would immediately re-buy if I ran out is 1. the Cosrx propolis light ampoule, 2. an Adapalene gel, 3. the Glow Recipe hyaluronic gloss balm, and 4. the Glow Recipe watermelon toner. The propolis light ampoule is like THEE holy grail of holy grails for me at the moment, I have gone through three bottles already after trying it maybe two months ago and have a stockpile of like eight more now, but I put it on my face multiple times a day. Adapalene is a prescription ingredient that you can get over the counter which is nice and reliable, but I also have plenty of other retinoids so it wouldn't be a federal emergency even though I'd definitely get it again eventually no matter what. I also have a ton of lip balms/masks, and the Glow Recipe one is my favorite so far, I'd say it's a pretty close dupe for the Laneige lip mask except the hyaluronic acid actually does make my lips feel plumper. And I have a lot of toners, but the watermelon toner is a really unique texture and it feels like it exfoliates and nourishes my skin at the same time.

But, skincare works differently on different people, so one of my holy grails might kill someone else's skin. Generally speaking, sunscreen and retinoids are what I would pick if I had to choose two skincare ingredients to use for the rest of my life, and if you use those two things that's probably 75-90% of what you need to take care of your skin long term, I just happen to love experimenting with the other 25-10%.

I think the most viral one I saw was the Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% peeling solution, which the vast majority of people have no business using imo. I think it just became so popular because it was trendy bc of how it looked. are you at all a perfume girl because you might enjoy that too, I was more into fragrance and then got into skincare but I know for a lot of people its the other way around.

Yeah that freaking blood-ass looking stuff makes for a good Insta photo but PEELING is not something you want pretty much ever unless you're literally encrusted in dead skin. And no I'm not much of a perfume girl, I usually try to find scented lotions that I like because I get migraines and perfume can be too strong and have too many notes for me, like I can handle sweet or citrusy scents but spicy/smoky/woody/musky is real hard for me and it's very hard to find perfume that doesn't have some kind of notes like that.

The bad:

Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats by TS Eliot - shocking amount of racial slurs for a children's book

Sovietistan by Erika Fatland - technically didn't finish this one. It's a shame because it was SO interesting and I enjoyed reading about Central Asia bc I know nothing, but Fatland is so rude about every single local she comes into contact with. Constant descriptions of bad teeth, people's weight, how nasty the food was, and how backwards the attitudes were. I get it's kind of a strange/unique region but it was gross to me that her narration, apart from when she discussed history of the region, was very much "wow look how weird and exotic these people are! I'm so glad I live in Norway where it's CLEAN and people aren't WEIRD." Only made it through the Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan chapters which is a shame bc this could've been great if she was just not an asshole!!!!

The okay:

Uncharted by Alli Temple - was truly expecting nothing from this Kindle Unlimited pirate adventure-romance series with a stock image cover but it was actually not bad? Fun, pulp-y plot and I finished it in about 5 hours

Cleat Cute by Meryl Wilsner - a serviceable romcom about two soccer players who fall in love. I read Wilsner's other books (one was fine and one I hated) so I feel like saying this is my favorite isn't saying much, but it was cute.

The Lost Spells by Robert MacFarlane - the draw here isn't so much the poems (but they're fine!), it's the beautiful watercolors

The good/great:

spellbook for the sabbath queen by Elisheva Fox - a really beautiful but sparse poetry collection that has stuff about identity and environment and difficult familial relationships and sexuality and Judaism. This is her first collection and it definitely feels like one, but not in a bad way. I'll def keep an eye out for more of her stuff

Ararat by Christopher Golden - a recommendation from a friend and it had some GNARLY kills but was another book that was very much My Shit. Also had a great ending

American Journal: Fifty Poems For Our Time, edited by Tracy K. Smith - a really great poetry collection especially if you're just getting into poetry and are looking for new poets. There's enough variety that there's something for everyone in there!

When I Grow Up I Want to Be a List of Further Possibilities by Chen Chen - these poems were so fucking weird that i was immediately in love. Idk what else to say other than "strange and lovely"

Rouge by Mona Awad - speaking of strange! If you're into skincare this is especially fun, I'm glad I got a facial BEFORE reading this because otherwise I would have been mildly unsettled. I love that thing Awad does when the character starts to lose it and the narration goes off the rails

Bestiary by Donika Kelly - I mean this in the best possible way, what the FUCK. "You grow. You are large./You are a 19th century poem." but also "I have never known a field as wild/as your heart." Hey Donika what if I throw up everywhere

He Who Drowned the World by Shelley Parker-Chan - some great characters and also a couple of plot points that were so upsetting i started laughing and then had to put the book down for the night because it was the most tragic possible thing to happen. (almost) every single character in this book is a total asshole and I love them all!!!!!!!! Maybe not technically "great" but one of those books that felt like it was written just for me.

The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros - an all time favorite I reread because I was sad. Sandra Cisneros is one of those writers that makes me feel incredibly seen and I was having a bad day so I read this in one sitting and it helped a little

I was having a bit of an existential crisis before the gym so I ordered a pair of black vegan sambas!! yay! Right now my errands are done for the day since I’ve gone to the gym, picked up more skincare to stock up on and then did my hair. The weather has been nice all day and I had new TS to accompany me in the car and in the gym :) Nothing much else to do today except have dinner!

So I am going to spill properly after very long. So my piles are burning a lot today. I just pooped and after that I can't stand. It's hurting and burning. My poop was not very dry but still it hurts. My piles are really bad since last few days. As I am eating junk everyday. I ate chowmein and momos both today. I hate my life. I need to control.

My studies are going downhill too. I am procrastinating too much. Or maybe I am just lazy and addicted to phone. I did my practicals very bad. It went so bad. I can't comprehend. I got scolded for not getting my file checked too. I will complete my file either tomorrow or day after tomorrow without wasting time. Mumma gave so much too eat. My stomach feels like bursting. I am not doing my skincare too. Many new pimples have popped up across my face.

I had a plan to eat junk tomorrow as well. But it's cancelled. Will not do it. I am now going to study gynae properly. Enough of this self humiliation. I didn't knew anything today in surgery paper. Sat there like a fool. I need to change and improve. Will see TS with proper schedule.
