I have a rack to store things for a few days after they're clean. It's to get the beetles to drop off. They can hold on very tight, especially in the crevices. And the first instars are hard to see and impossible to pick up.
happy new year! i have updated and reopened my shop! mostly back pelts, but a few more wallhangers are coming soon! this will probably be the last update for a little while, thank you to everyone who's supported me through this ...rollercoaster of a year, and i hope i'll be back before too much longer :)
Anyone ever used Oxi clean (with the I not the Y) to degrease skulls? I found some forum posts talking about it and it seems really fast but I am curious about long term results/damage
A unique coyote skull, re-cleaned for a customer. OverBITE!
This skull was initially boiled. It was greasy, but also brittle and crumbly. One zygomatic arch just melted away after a few weeks in water and ammonia, well before degreasing was done. I had to stabilize the flaky nasal bones with a coat of glue.
