While this CAN also be read as semi-Canon Compliancy; Please also understand I very much intended this as ship: Koushiro Izumi x Taichi Yagami (namely in a post-Kizuna sense). {The AMV is meant to show their story as an overview, as if they are reflecting on the events they’ve {already} been through} (I’d appreciate if that was respected as you watch.)

Digimon Adventure: 2020 – Episode 38: The Blazing Blue Friendship (Review)

Thoughts on the thirty-eighth episode of the Digimon Adventure reboot series.

I think this was a decent episode, but for Yamato’s “return”, I expected it to be better. But it was another filler episode with some nice moments in it.

After Yamato’s been riding on Garurumon for 2+ months, the episode just drops us into a plot that has “happened” . . . I’d prefer they didn’t do this. It’s too random for a character we haven’t seen in a meaningful capacity for months.

Jou “coincidentally” and literally falls in (love) on Yamato. :D I liked their dynamic, actually. They made pretty good teammates! Even though they were apart for most of the episode, lol.

Yamato tells us that Gabumon has been captured by Mephismon, who sucks the energy of Digimon using an evil spell to a black crystal (a shard of Millenniumon). A flimsy connection to the plot, but I guess I’ll take it! Still a filler episode, though. :P

OMG when Yamato recounts how they went in to save the Digimon from Mephismon, we get a shot of him HOLDING HANDS with two little Chibickmon as he leads them to safety. IT WAS ADORABLE AF. He's going to make a great father someday to Sora’s children. XD

Yamato: “Jou. Gomamon. I can’t reach the very top alone. That’s why . . . lend me a hand! Please.” UwU I loved this. Especially since Yamato was always so dismissive of Jou in the past (. . . if little kids watching this series can even remember that far back, lol), so it’s great progress to see this!

Jou: “I . . . I never thought you’d say something like that to me!” LMAO. And the way he says it and expresses himself. Jou 100% has a crush on Yamato. XD; Get in line behind Sora! You’re not the only one who thinks he’s impressive. ;)

The episode cuts to Taichi’s group and . . . I facepalm so hard, lol. This is Yamato’s “return” episode after 738493 episodes of Taichi, and we can’t take one measly episode break from the guy? REALLY TOEI?

But I guess it’s forgiven because it was mostly so Takeru could provide us with some background information about the Takaishida family situation. It remains mostly the same as the OG - their parents divorced, Takeru lives with their mother, Yamato with their father. Takeru adds this: “But Big Brother always contacted me and came to see me a lot.” This is supposedly different to the OG, as the OG claimed that they rarely saw each other. So at least their parents are putting their kids first, now? TBH I care more about the headcanons I can create with this - Yamato seeing Natsuko more than he should, wheee. :D :D :D

It’s super nice that we got Yamato and Tsunomon’s first encounter! Since the OG never showed us, either. Just listen to Tsunomon bouncing after Yamato. OMG so cute! *SQUISH*

Gabumon: “Yamato, you protected me! You could’ve just left me there.” Yamato: “I . . . just protected you on my own too. *SMILE.* You, what’s your name?” This realisation made Yamato turn and accept Gabumon? Has he never protected anyone before/did something on his own? lol. I found it a bit odd. I think there needed to be more to bridge this bond.

It goes without saying, but . . . Yamato climbing a mountain via bars stuck to the side of it is utterly ridiculous. :P

OK . . . Jou countering the chanting of the evil spell by chanting material from his textbooks was hilarious. It was also utterly ridiculous - but freaking hilarious. So . . . I give it a pass and just LOL. XD;

Ikkakumon using his attack Harpoon Torpedo to create “bars” for Yamato to climb the mountain was actually really neat.

But it has to be said that Yamato is just as superhuman - if not moreso - than Taichi in this episode, ROFL. I guess he didn’t want to be outdone by his little brother, the Olympic gymnast, Takeru. So Yamato is an Olympic athlete - a three-time Gold medallist. No one better write him as hating sports in reboot fanfiction, as they mistakenly do in OG fanfiction . . .

Yamato going through the spell’s forcefield to reach Gabumon was 100% worthy of a Mega evolution. If Taichi can simply breathe to evolve his digimon to two Megas, surely Yamato can Mega evolve his Digimon with this act of courage and determination? Toei: “No.” -_-

Yamato to Gabumon: “I changed after I met you. I gained something important! Gabumon, you were . . . you were my very first . . . friend!” Awww. That was both super sweet and super sad. Yamato didn’t have any friends before Gabumon? Not even before his parents divorced? The child is 11! THAT’S A LOT OF LIFE LIVED. Damn. :( Don’t worry, Yamato, Sora will be your friend - and then some . . .

METALGARURUMON SHOULD’VE HAPPENED. His “aura” did show up on WereGarurumon, but it was a blink-and-you-miss-it moment. You literally have to pause your screen to see it - as though Toei didn’t even want you to see it. O_o Strange.

Gabumon to Yamato: “Wow, you climbed this [mountain]?” Yes, Gabumon, he did. We are all as astonished as you are. But I know someone who will be impressed! ;)

Takeru: “Big Brother!” OMFG YASSS!!! I’ve been waiting 784392 years for them to reunite for the 734892th time. I’m so excited! I HOPE THEY DON’T SPLIT UP IMMEDIATELY IN THE NEXT EPISODE. I’m watching you, Toei. orz

This was a filler episode. BUT I LOVED THE END. So . . . I liked that we got more background on Yamato, and I liked it simply because Yamato is (still) my favourite character in the reboot . . . but it was just an OK episode. For his “return” - I did expect more. :P

Next week looks to be fun! Lots of Jou - so here’s to hoping he gets fleshed out to be an actual likeable character! (I did like Jou in this episode, actually. Another plus!) And that Taichi doesn’t shoehorn himself in for 90% of the episode. I’m also just super excited for all the kids to be together! :D

Digimon Adventure 2020 Ep 1-3 Impressions

I was originally planning on binging the entire season after all the episodes aired, but it’s on indefinite hiatus with only 3 episodes out so might as well watch them!

Honestly I was surprised when I heard Adventures was getting a reboot after the announcement that the Kizuna movie would be the end of “Taichi and Agumon’s story” especially when they were released/aired like a month of each other lol. Interesting production choices. That said, it’s an interesting concept to bring the Adventures kids into 2020 when the world is way more digital than it was in 1999. So much potential to explore!

But it’s obvious Toei is pandering towards the generation that grew up with the original series, the old art style is kinda proof of it lol. From the 3 episodes that are out, it doesn’t feel like they’re starting from scratch to bring in a new audience. The story was so fast-paced and went from 0 to 100 without ever explaining anything?? Like new evolutions in OG Adventures were the climax of character growth in the episode so there was emotional attachment in watching the digimon gain the upper hand. 2020 Adventures was like here have an evolution just cuz lol. It was all the spectacle and none of the substance behind it. Not to mention Greymon and Garurumon went straight from their champion forms to mega?? I get that Hikari and Takeru played a role but how??? I just don’t like the idea of them being able to evolve so easily right at the beginning. Doing so loses the whole point of evolutions and reduces them to just pure visuals and action.

And don’t get me started on the clear recycling of the plot of Our War Game.... even some of the shots was straight up from the movie. That preview for the ep 2 was probably meant to bait ppl into thinking Diablomon would be there lmao. I got bored watching the battle sequences, I’m not sure it was a good choice to dedicated the first 3 eps to high-stake action right off the bat. Would someone getting into Digimon for the first time fully enjoy it?? (Lemme know lol) Hopefully #4 will have more explanations now that the kids are in the Digital World.

Other thoughts

Y’know I was half expecting the OP to be Butterfly but it was still a nice homage to it in the music :’)

Taichi is such a good friend like he just met Koushiro and he’s all like look at how awesome this dude is 😩

Did they change the digimon voice actors for their champion and so on levels :O

In all, I’m not too impressed from the first 3 episodes alone. It seems like it could be an interesting spin on the og series but I feel like those eps were wasted trying to be nostalgic. Tbh all of that could’ve fit in 1-1.5 episodes if they wanted to start off the season with fast-paced action.

My picks for Influential Anime of the Decade

Here we go.

K-on!! (2010) [K-on! (season 2)]

This is cheating, season 1 came in 2009. But season 2 is really when K-on! hit it’s stride.

For being the pioneer of the “cute girls doing cute things” genre that is still being felt today. For (re-)introducing Kyoto Animation to Japan/the world, as a new more independent version of itself. For debuting director Naoko Yamada to the world. For being the best slice of life of all time. And it still holds up.

Madoka Magica (2011)

For introducing the phrase “deconstruction of a genre” to a whole new generation of annoying people to talk to. For being an incredibly popular original show, changing the entire lexicon and direction of the Magical Girl genre, proving that art direction does not define a genre (you see this now in shows/manga like School live! and Made in Abyss), introducing the world to Gen Urobuchi as an anime writer, and for being genuinely, truly, one of the greatest shows of all time.

Sword Art Online (2012)

I never said that this was a list of good anime.

For popularizing the self-insert protagonist. For simplifying and codifying the “generic fantasy anime” which A-1 Pictures and many mangaka have slightly remixed and then put to “good” use. For being something we still talk about in 2019 and probably in 2020/2021 because there’s another friggin series and we’re only now actually catching up to the light novels but they still have enough for like another 26 episode season and a movie, I can’t believe this is still a thing.

(I would say something about isekai, but SAO actually isn’t an Isekai by hard definition. Isekai is about getting stuck in another world and, here’s the kicker, not being able to/not wanting to leave. Meanwhile SAO is literally about leaving. At least the first 1/2 seasons. The rest aren’t even 100% in the other world. There’s probably something to be said about SAO influencing isekai because it’s kinda an isekai and was very popular, but that’s kind of taking correlation as causation.)

Your Name. (2016)

For introducing anime films that aren’t by studio Ghibli to a world stage, notably to the Western world. For bringing Makoto Shinkai to incredible popularity. For showing that anime movies aren’t always about whimsy (Studio Ghibli) or Action (Any shonen). And also being very good.

A Place Further Than the Universe (2018)

For being very good. Like best of the year good. Like best of the year internationally good. Like being on the New York Times Best Shows of 2018 good. Yea, honestly that’s the only reason, but it is actually one of the most interesting just using it as a marker for the direction of popularity of Anime. Just read this article.

Others, in quickfire:

FMA: B (cheating, it started in 2009): Gateway anime, resurgence of Bones as a studio

Steins;gate: Gateway anime, introduction of sci-fi thriller as a genre to a new generation of weebs

My Hero Academia: New system of Shonen, instead of Toei where they release episodes every week regardless, resulting in decreasing quality, MHA releases on a normal anime schedule (a season every year or so) and is maintaining popularity.

Ajin: First anime entirely done in CGI. Also not that bad. (Houseki no Kuni is my personal pick for best CGI anime, but it isn’t the first.)

Shingeki no Kyoujin: Gateway anime, a harder core and more popular introduction of thriller as a genre to a new generation of weebs.

Yuru Camp: First popular anime where a western company is in the production team (Crunchyroll) (this isn’t the first time CR has been on the production team, but one of the first times it’s been relevant).

Jojo: Bizarrely (heh) a very effective gateway anime just because of memes

Violet Evergarden: Being the easiest drama anime recommendation possible due to availability on Netflix.

Hyouka: Personal favorite. Also it’s literally my favorite show of all time.

Shirobako: Personal favorite, introducing how anime as a system works, while still being a good show.

Liz and the Blue Bird: This is a hard cut for me. Literally every review by a director i’ve seen of it says something like “this is an entirely different exploration of the medium we call anime” but it was released so late in the decade that I don’t know if I’m willing to call it as a game changer. Also it’s literally my favorite film of all time.

A Silent Voice: “Makoto Shinkai called the film a ‘fantastic piece of work’ and a ‘polished and grand production’ which even he is unable to replicate.” - Wikipedia

Devilman Crybaby: Until this came out, the statement “there are no good animations that are rated R (including western animation)” was true, barring highly obscure Japanese anime that is rated R because a girl took off her shirt. Yes, the combination of 1) being good, 2) being animated, and 3) being rated R is only held by one show.

Promare: An anime original film that was so popular in the states that it has had multiple reshowings.

Trigger’s Patreon: hey, it is notable.

Anime Update 5

CLANNAD - This one was a definite step up from the last episode; the situation with Fuko the so-called Ghost Girl, how poorly adjusted she is in the school and in general, and those Starfish things she wanted to give out to promote her big sister’s wedding was fairly engaging for a focus, and Sunohara was only here in doses which actually made him tolerable for once. And now we’ve got Luci Christian and Hilary Haag living together ‘cause of course they are. Okazaki was pretty great here, and while was a little weird how quickly Nagisa got so 100% emotionally invested in Fuko’s plight to the point of dropping her own goals with the drama club, I guess that’s just a defect her character has that will be dealt with later on.

Dragon Ball - OK....BULL-SHIT. THAT’S how you’re gonna write out Colonel Silver? Colonel Fucking Silver!? After all the build-up of how tough and dangerous this man is, after all the effort put into making his character so cool and interesting, after even putting him and Goku in a brief but tense face-off in just the previous episode...he goes down with a monkey tail smacking him in the head and is promptly discharged and possibly executed for his failure? This is a huge case of an anime going too literal in adapting the source material that they shoot themselves in the foot by scraping all the potential they’d built up in their exclusive material, as this was Silver’s only appearance in the original manga; the only time he and Goku faced off. In the manga, Silver wasn’t meant to be a particularly formidable opponent - just some cocky thug who was jacked and strong by regular standards but couldn’t begin to be a match for Goku’s irregular strength, so his defeat didn’t raise any eyebrows. In the anime, because they developed Silver more and made him seem like a worthy foe, this exact same outcome just comes off as a huge anticlimax. And while they changed it enough on Silver’s end by having him remember Goku from their last encounters, the way Goku acted towards Silver was notably different from last episode, as though he was interacting with someone who was a total stranger to him...’cause that’s how it was in the manga! If Toei was going to change so much things before this point, then why couldn’t they make alterations to this point to make it better suit the narrative that the anime had been telling? I don’t get it. The one thing I did like was how in Silver’s last scene where General Jerky Pirate Leprechaun Man was going to have him shown out the door, Silver didn’t let the goons touch him and instead walked out with his dignity in tact, even as he was then pursued. Damn, what a guy.

Toradora - .After the disappointment of the above, this was a far worthier payoff to what had been set up in last week’s episode. We got to see the real start of Taiga and Ami’s glorious Foe Yay-filled dynamic (I’d actually forgotten that Taiga had Ami staying at her apartment overnight, she really went for that!), the development of Ami’s characters as she’s put in situations where she lets her facade slip and shows her true self to those who could become her true friends, and that whole matter with Ami’s creepy, camera snapping stalker gave context to why Taiga’s use of the word “stalker” had triggered her so badly and why she’d been buying snack foods to stress-eat at the end of the previous episode. The resolution was also great in showing the futility of Ami’s mask - Taiga being unabashedly her true self in front of the stalker was enough to scare him, while Ami showcasing no authentic personality beyond her superficial image had only been fueling the stalker’s desire to keep following her and sending her into stress and panic that she allowed to consume her life. So the moment Ami unleashes the true her on the stalker and breaks both his camera and his image of her, rendering all of his misogynistic stalking and photo snapping as big a waste of his life as Ami’s response was a waste of her’s, as he’d been lusting after an image rather than a real person that truly existed, and her shoving his sexist mindset back at him while doing the truly terrifying 180 snap back to her Fake Cutie persona was the icing on the cake. Go, Ami!

Excel Saga - Gah, there was so much politics and workplace conspiracies going on here and a lot of it went over my head, which I figure must’ve been the intention. But from what I did gather, Dr. Kabapu was playing three different angles (the Mayor, the Vice Mayor, and the Secretary of Defense) all to get his special city protection organization authorized and running. And now Watanabe and his two neighbors work for this organization! Seemingly not much new on Pedro’s end except a run-in with the Mafia boss looking man who didn’t speak his language (I’m sure he’s of no consequence!), and Nabeshin was literally on vacation.

Ace Attorney - Interesting new case we’ve got here with the hero actor being framed for the murder of the villain actor, and Maya being so super into it made for many cute, priceless moments. I think it’s becoming a recurring theme that anyone Detective Gumshoe suspects of being guilty is obviously not the guilty party. I was surprised but also delighted to see Edgeworth again so soon, he’s still a great opponent for Phoenix and even got to be subject to some great humorous moments here too! Oh yeah, and Wendy Oldbag is a total riot!

Nadja of Tomorrow - As interesting as the dilemma in this one was, I’m having difficulty taking Francis Halcourt seriously ‘cause he sounds like Doug Funnie - I think I’m just gonna call him Smash Adams from hereon out. This episode also made me think of just how silly a word “ball” is to describe a fancy, formal party with slow dances, ‘cause that’s not what first comes to mind when you hear that word - it’s probably third, really! The ending was also a total mindscrew, as one minute Nadja and Smash are dancing outside then suddenly a flurry of rose petals blows them into the mansion where everyone can see them and then they’re dancing in midair and then suddenly Nadja’s on a boat leaving London...what??? And while I like Nadja as a character, I can’t say I feel for her when it comes to the matter of her Starry Eyed Knight or find this romance to be particularly engaging. It’s just not the sort of thing I’m into and for this show, it’s ultimately superfluous in the end, so I feel we could do without it. Oh yeah, and it was odd hearing Tchaikovsky music playing in the background at least twice!

Mobile Fighter G Gundam - Neo RUSSIA!!! That’s what this episode had me constantly saying, as these fucking Commie military people running things in their nation of origin are just irredeemably awful in how they imprison Gundam fighters and make them suffer under their watch just to keep themselves ahead in the Gundam Fight. It’s to the point where even their own fighter is a prisoner who’s permanently got a bomb strapped to his chest! Damn! Also, who even was the other prisoner who escaped with Domon, and why did he have to make the episode end on such a downbeat, almost nihilistic note? We’re never going to get the answer, are we? At least we heard the first utterance of “Dark Gundam” in this one, meaning that we’re about to learn what Domon’s deal is; of who and what he’s searching for.

AND

SSSS Gridman - “WHAT THE---? THIS GUY’S GOT WEAPONS?” (”What a pesky Guest!”)

That was the line of the night right there. I’m now even more accustomed to Lindsay Seidel’s Maya Fey on Ace Attorney since her Akane Shinjo shows she can actually go even higher pitched if she wanted to! I’ve taken a liking to Rikka and Sho and how they play off each other, I really like this new Samurai Calibur guy (he’s like a cross between Rukia Kuchiki and L. Lawliet), and while they’re freaking horrible, I enjoy watching Akane and Alexis, and seeing the hows and whys of the Kaiju attacks they create. There’s really only one drawback right now and it’s our main character, Yuta. I’d called him “Otonashi 2.0″ before, but now I almost feel the need to apologize to Otonashi ‘cause even HE wasn’t THIS fucking bland. Yuta’s also an amnesiac blank slate but his character amounts to “I’m a hero who does what I have to do because only I can do it!”, and he doesn’t even have a very good voice actor to add anything deeper than that. I already know he’s a part of Gridman, but must this make him so robotic? I hear this show was something of Trigger’s apology for how badly Darling In The Franxx went earlier last year, but the one front it fails to deliver on in comparison is the lead character. And I think that this is ultimately going to be more of Rikka and Akane’s story anyway given that gay ED credits.

Incoming extra-long Follower Appreciation and reply post!

I may need to start doing these biweekly (in this case, every two weeks), truth to be told. The amount of attention this blog is getting is a lot more than I had anticipated.

First of all, I want to welcome all the new followers. I also want to thank the people who have been following this blog for quite a while, some of you have even been here from the very beginning, for all their support.

I’m going to take this chance to inform you that this blog has just reached the 252 followers (it’s 255 right now, but I don’t have the time to screencap it all over again). Never, not even in my wildest dreams, had I imagined I’d reach so many; in fact, I was expecting to reach 50 at the very most. Sadly, right now I have no time to host another raffle/giveaway to celebrate the 200 follower milestone, but once things have calmed down a bit and I’ve been able to finish all the prizes from the previous one, I’ll do some other thing for you, guys, maybe during summer.

On another note, those 5 drafts you see there include some essays/analyses: an analysis about Tamago, which is actually one of the prizes for the 100 follower milestone giveaway and I have permission from the person who requested it to wait until the current arc is done, so the analysis can be wrapped up properly. On Charlotte Pudding, about how Pudding was evil and lying throughout the entire arc - I was working on this when Oda unveiled the truth about her, so after that I just lost my drive to keep writing it and it’s kind of just sitting there -; an unnamed one about the giants we’ve seen so far and their connection to Norse culture and other sources - on which I’ve been working for quite a while before the entire prince Loki of Elbaf reveal, mind you -; Creating Impel Down, an essay on the (possible) sources used to create the great underwater prison and its dwellers and Family & Loyalty. Edward ’Whitebeard’ Newgate Vs. Charlotte ‘Big Mom’ Linlin, a comparison between Whitebeard’s and Big Mom’s differing views and postures regarding the concept of family.

Anyway, back to the subject at hand. My eternal gratitude goes not only to my followers, but to everyone who has followed this blog or liked and/or reblogged any of its contents, your sweet comments and tags make all the effort well worth it! You’re all incredible, guys!

Please, read the screenshot below because I’m not going to discuss this subject again (I’ll answer all the tags/comments I’ve gotten for it so far, but I won’t answer any new ones nor I’m going to talk about this subject ever again). It’s what’s written at the bottom of the post in the first link and the second one leads to that “other post of mine” that’s mentioned below.

I’m rather nonplused about the reception for this post, because people only seem to pay attention to those four dreadful words (Sanji has brown eyes) instead of the actual point of the post, which was the parallel/joke about Sanji being like Little Red Riding Hood. All that seemed to fly over nearly everyone’s heads despite it having two big images, a huge title and a sentence dedicated to it, plus a joking comment about just how gaudy the golden wristlets are.

@huevodandy Preach! (this is technically from another post related to this one, but I want everyone to see this).

@penumbrazxs That’s what we’ll all do, but you know, the manga purists are probably going to be bothering people over it, so better make it clear for everyone. We were talking about the manga cover on that post, so they’re brown. Manga = brown; anime = blue. Choose whatever you like most, people, just like with Law and Robin. I, myself, prefer them blue. Thanks for your input :)

@bee-kun I know, I know. I was surprised and confused as well.

@writesailingdreams Truer words were never spoken. Skin and eye colour diversity is certainly a job Toei does better than Oda. Also, don’t worry about it; they were mostly people who meant well. The problem is that when you receive loads of the same thing one after the other, it gets annoying. I must confess I like blue-eyed Robin better; she seems, don’t know, more myterious, more... alluring somehow. Not that there’s anything wrong with brown eyes nor saying that they can’t look mysterious and/or alluring, because they can be as hypnotising/mesmerising as any other hue.

@namibean Thanks for the reblog and your input. I must say I’d always pictured his eyes as blue, even before they started colouring them in the anime, so it was quite a shocker to see those brown eyes. Also, I laughed at the “cheese and rice” tag, I’d never heard that expression before. Thanks for teaching me something new, even if it wasn’t your intention :)

@lucy-heartflawless Go check the coloured manga if you want; I left a link to the officially coloured manga at Kissmanga on the first post linked on the title of this particular section (if you’re interested but can’t find it, just drop me a line), but I must tell you that I already checked the Punk Hazard incident and Nami!Sanji’s (Sanji in Nami’s body) eyes are still brownish.

Thank you. Also, yes, it’s Little Red Riding Hood in Wonderland with some touches of Cinderella and I believe there are high chances of the “Ugly Duckling” (also Sanji) becoming a swan (I’m having a really hard time fighting off my need to write down the so very terrible pun I have in mind concerning this “Ugly Duckling” thing and Sanji’s use of honorifics). Sanji is like the protagonist of every fairy tale ever written, to be honest.

@theshittymarimo Yes, you’re right. I checked the official coloured manga and Sanji’s eyes are brown as well as the rest of the crew’s (exceptions being Chopper - I haven’t checked it page by page so not sure - and Brook - currently he has no eyes and before he always wore those shades of his -).

@wordsdear I’m laughing way too hard at this. Something to do with a Drag Queen contest they celebrate during the carnival of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, here in Spain and how they are all presented with the ‘title’ Drag + Name (e.g. Drag Sethlas, the controversial winner of the contest this year).

@jiofreed OMG, where do I even begin? I completely agree with you on the Sanji-Ichiji parallel; they seem to be similar yet opposites in many ways. Actually, I’m rather pissed at Sanji’s new backstory; I consider it mostly lazy writing what with the ‘magic‘ drug that only affects Sanji during a pregnancy of four and all. I don’t like the fact that he’s always been Saint Sanji and don’t get me wrong, because I absolutely LOVE Sanji, he’s easily one of the most humane characters in the entire series, that’s why I believe he deserved a less sci-fi, easy-way out bullshit backstory and a more realistic one, instead. The family dynamics and tension are great (not literally, but I hope you get what I mean), but the fact that Sanji is presented as white, pure, good whereas his brothers are completely black, immoral, evil just because of some nonsensical sci-fi crap explanation ruins it for me. I swear, if he pulls some “Sanji will awaken his genetically altered powers and the other three will suddenly be able to feel empathy and be good” crap, I’m going to murder someone. I would have rather had them all be different shades of grey; some leaning more towards a lighter shade and others towards a darker one. Either that or if he were still set on having ‘Saint Sanji’, Oda should have given Sora a separate pregnancy for him like he did with Reiju. Actually, Yonji seems to be the only one who is somewhat greyish to be honest. The way he acts when he’s with Ichiji and Niji is different from the way he acts when he’s with Reiju. Look who’s writing fanfiction now (I’ll probably lose a few followers because of it) and I’m not even done but I’ll leave it here :)

As far as I remember, and correct me if I’m wrong, Tonjit explained it was because they had a lot of space to grow longer and taller, not because it was boring. Lastly, it is well known that octopuses or octopodes are often cannibals, so Hachi making and selling takoyaki is not weird at all.

This A.M.V. is currently semi- (mostly) / FINISHED. As of now, the preliminary version up until ending is completed. Hopefully you find some enjoyment so far though! - The intro and Koushiro’s section took about 1 hour 15 min alone. - Taichi’s section took another 25~30 min or so (I’m rounding Taichi’s out to about 25.) - The 2nd to last finishing touch took another 45 min of editing for an about 17 second section. - This last one took almost 1 hour more. - And finally, the final stretch was 2 hours 35 min; (Add that all together, and it’s about) almost 6~ hours in total. and i mean i think their music definitely deserves the success that it got; i think it’s rly awesome music! but the kinda bummer-side of all that laud is that now there are so many expectations placed on the strokes--not as a group of 5 friends in a band that makes great music, but as The Strokes™ aka the commercially successful, influential NY indie rock band that defined music for a generation and blah blah blah. and again i think they deserve recognition as artists, but the problem is that NOW so many people (fans, journalists, whoever) see them as The Strokes™ as if its a brand with a whole brand identity attached to it (that the guys themselves did NOT set out to create) that includes commercial success and making music that is Good by default just cuz it’s got the name “The Strokes” attached to it. and while having success attached to a group you’re a part of is definitely not bad in itself...i can understand why as an artist, julian would wanna step away from all of that for a while.

there’s nothing remotely near that level of expectation with the voidz. idk i guess creatively, it seems like it’d definitely allow for a creative energy that’s different than what the strokes have. like obvs he loves the strokes guys and theyve been friends for forever! but it doesnt all have to be about the strokes.

Digimon Adventure: 2020 – Episode 48: The Attack Of Machinedramon (Review)

Thoughts on the forty-eighth episode of the Digimon Adventure reboot series.

Well, this is more like it! :D

Narration is going on about important plot-stuff. Could this be a non-filler!? I think so! :D WE FINALLY MADE IT OUT OF FILLER HELL, GUYS! \o/

Leomon just pops back up out of nowhere, lol. A very convenient castle started to grow on Eldoradimon that lets him contact the kids . . . I think there was definitely more of a story here with Leomon’s survival, that Toei had to shove aside due to COVID, 100%. :P

And Lopmon has very conveniently met up with Leomon and his crew! Wow. So many conveniences here. :P I understand, though. But I still judge. :P

ngl, Sorato looked super cute sitting next to each other. Don’t you think they would make a super cute couple in a few years? I do. uwu

THE KIDS FINALLY MADE IT TO FAGA!!! omfg. That took about 100 lifetimes. orz

I find it so unnatural whenever Hikari hugs Tailmon, lol. Just me? OK. XD;

Machinedramon is very badarse and OP. But maybe I’m just tired of Fillermon. But I really like how menacing and indestructible he seems. :)

Yamato remembered Machinedramon from Agumon’s dark evolution . . . but will it actually go somewhere or just be dropped completely? Hedge your bets! :P

Taichi: “Machinedramon shot at Cloud Continent earlier too. What’s their plan?” Koushirou: “Perhaps . . . it’s somehow tied to Millenniumon’s resurrection.” Sora: “Even if it wasn’t, there’s a ton of Digimon up there!” Yamato: “Let’s destroy those cannons!” That’s my ever-caring girl! And my Sorato tag-team. uwu

I really like the full Mega Evolution sequences with Taichi and Yamato and their Digivices. :3 I really hope the rest of the kids get them, too . . .

Machinedramon v. MetalGarurumon was pretty short, but it looked cool. :D

I liked the whole sequence of Hikari fainting or whatever and Angewomon powering up WarGreymon, lol. It was very nicely done. I was just a little disappointed that we didn’t get an evolution for Angewomon instead. XD;

I’m pretty sure a thousand Takari fans just screamed when Hikari actually fainted and Takeru caught her, lol.

Taichi: “Everybody. Our goal is . . . to find Millenniumon and prevent that Digimon’s resurrection. Right now, I don’t know what might happen. But we can’t be stalling at a place like this. The time when we’ll really need the Holy Digimon’s powers must still be in the future. That’s why . . . me and WayGreymon will end this!” Yamato: “Taichi! You mean you want us to just leave you behind . . .” Taichi: “Yamato. I leave everyone to you.” I’m not the biggest reboot Taichi fan (heh heh), but I thought this moment felt pretty epic with the music and everything. It only took Toei 48 episodes to get Taichi to actually sound like an actual leader of the group, lol. And because the stakes were high - and not against Fillermon - it worked for me. This is an actually deserved heroic moment! :P

And of course Machinedramon v. WarGreymon was pretty damn cool. :) WarGreymon is just . . . bae, lol. XD; I hope MetalGarurumon gets to be this cool later, because he’s pretty lacking in comparison . . .

Taichi . . . is . . . dead? Well, of course not. But it makes for a great episode closer! (Even though . . . it’s ripping off tri., lol.) I dug it. :P

Overall, this was a pretty decent episode. I’m so glad we’re back to actual plot and have hopefully left filler hell forever? Can the remaining episodes all be plot-relevant, please? One can only hope. :)

I’m actually pretty hyped for next week’s episode! I hope that Taichi actually sits out the entire episode - just one - so that his actions here actually have meaning. :P And, yeah, I would also just like a reboot episode without him, lol. Please give me that, Toei! JUST ONE EPISODE. That’s all I ask! XD;

Digimon Adventure: 2020 – Episode 45: Activate, MetalGarurumon (Review)

Thoughts on the forty-fifth episode of the Digimon Adventure reboot series.

I . . . was not impressed with this episode. I did kinda like it because it had a lot of Yamato, but . . . I just expected more for a Mega evolution episode. It really shouldn’t have been a filler episode.

Narration: “Yamato and Gabumon showed signs of a new power. And now, that true form is about to be revealed.” Why does the narration insist on spoiling the episode?! :P Of course, the episode title does too, lol. But MetalGarurumon 100% should’ve happened in the episode where they “showed signs of a new power” . . . and not in this unremarkable episode.

I like how just in the previous episode, the kids didn’t have time to spare, and only conceded a bit of time to eat (a necessity) . . . but now they’re open to spending an entire (useless) day at a racing circuit. Wow, Toei, you really planned this series SO well!

Gabumon: “Yamato . . . I wanna run!” OK, I admit, Gabumon was super cute when he said this. The cutest he has ever been. But this sudden interest and passion in running is so abrupt and over-the-top? Also . . . DID YOU NOT RUN ENOUGH FOR 7000 LIFETIMES, NON-STOP, FOR TWO MONTHS OFF-SCREEN???

Machmon has a cool voice. I like him. But he’s a little too serious.

LMAO at the instant Garurumon was going to overtake Machmon - and Machmon got angry and started cheating. XD;

WTF, Garurumon just TOSSED YAMATO OFF HIM . . . at speed . . . and Yamato is completely fine. Ridiculous! :P

Why Gabumon/Yamato cared so much about Machmon (A CHEATING COMPETITOR) is beyond me. Toei, you actually need to develop bonds and friendships! DO THIS FOR THE EIGHT CHILDREN, TOO!

Gabumon smacks into a wall and has a bandage on his nose and one arm to show for it, lol. OK, fair. :P

Machmon tried to kill Gabumon in a death race to remain the racing champion . . . and everyone is OK with this? Let's just race??? You don't usually befriend people so quickly - especially when they tried to murder you . . . over a race. =| This is just ridiculous. I know, I know, it's a kids' show . . . but what are you teaching kids here? If someone tries to kill you (OVER A RACE), just befriend them!? It'll turn out OK! FRIENDSHIPS SOLVE EVERYTHING! Even attempted murder. Over a race! . . . OK, I’m over it now. :P

Yamato: "That sudden shift in Machmon during the race. Machmon supposedly lost control . . . but there's more to it . . . something else. If we race, we might find that answer." Well, a flimsy excuse to do the race, but OK I suppose! It’s actually fine, but how everyone reacted to Machmon’s attempted murder on Gabumon/Yamato, and their attitudes about the race going ahead, is just bizarre . . .

Jou as the announcer with his Digivice microphone was fun, though!

OMG, Sora, Mimi and Hikari cheering for Garurumon (and, by extension, Yamato) in Lillymon-esque cheerleading outfits was I-C-O-N-I-C. And poor Takeru! LMAO. Plus we all know Sora is really cheering for her man, Yamato. Thanks, Toei, I forgive you for all your sins now. :)

Koushirou informs everyone that Parasimon has infected Machmon and blah blah blah. Really? This was worthy of a Mega evolution? *rolls eyes*

Yamato . . . kicked . . . a Digimon . . . lmao. He looked cool in the beginning, though! What a total Chad. *love heart eyes* Chaos on Discord coined the term “Chadmato” - so that’s his name now. :3

Yamato: “We’ve raced together [Machmon] . . . We’re friends!” Is that really how it works, Yamato? If so, can I race you as well, please? x)

WereGarurumon is way too attached to someone he just met (who also attempted to murder him during a race . . .). The feeling is nice - but it’s also just out of nowhere and doesn’t feel that genuine or believable.

Yamato: “Even if you’re tormented by your mistakes or solitude, don’t give up! You must overcome your past, your present, and move forward!” This was a nice little speech before the Mega evolution and gave it some weight, I suppose. So, yay? I dunno. Whatever?

I really liked the Mega evolution sequence to MetalGarurumon, though! <3 And Jou’s reaction to his evolution was funny. XD;

But MetalGarurumon vs. Parasimon was a non-event, seriously. Like . . . REALLY? The Mega evo should’ve happened against that crazy cult Digimon. Sigh.

MetalGarurumon is a total boss, though. And he’s so BIG! Yamato looks so tiny on him. XD;

Yamato runs like he has toilet paper stuck between his arse cheeks, lol.

Yamato, Gabumon and Machmon crossed the finish line at the same time . . . Yamato is a tiny mortal and he can keep up with them!? These Digimon be slow AF. :P Also gotta quote Crispy on Discord: “Now Yamato allows participation awards for races. -_-” XD;

It was an OK filler episode . . . but for a Mega evolution? Utterly underwhelming and a giant disappointment. I know COVID messed with Toei’s plans, but still . . . they really have such a thin arse plot that they had to pad out the series with a Mega evolution filler episode. That’s just next level bad. I need people fired, Toei!

The next episode looks to be better at least . . . Takeru to the rescue! Even though they’re apparently resurrecting a storyline from 7869 years ago . . .

(Apologies for the late review. Sometimes I get carried away socialising with people on our Discord server and . . . well, I end up having to watch/review the episode on a later day! :D)

Digimon Adventure: 2020 – Episode 46: The Sword Of Hope (Review)

Thoughts on the forty-sixth episode of the Digimon Adventure reboot series.

I think this was a pretty decent episode . . .?

Sora and Mimi’s reaction to Jou almost vomiting was funny. :)

But how exactly does an obviously green ball (Sephirothmon No. 6) look like a Moon, Jou? :P

Sephirothmon sucks up and traps Taichi, Yamato, Koushirou and Takeru inside its “eye”. And Yamato is really not overprotective of Takeru, lol. Takeru is obviously a little bruised - and OG Yamato would 100% be fussing over him. But reboot Yamato is just: You OK bro? :) lol. This isn’t a critique - I just think the difference is funny. :P

Sora: “Taichi! Taichi, do you hear me?! Yamato! Koushirou-kun! Please answer me!” I just like that Sora has uttered Yamato’s sweet, sweet name again. Do it more often, please. :3

Tailmon: “Sephirothmon only watches. Copies are created from the battle memory etched within the trapped Digimon. And these copies attack the prey.” The copies of Digimon being created within Sephirothmon for trapped Digimon to battle was super interesting. It’s a neat idea and I really dug the atmosphere it created for the trapped kids. It’s far more interesting and creative than a fucking racing circuit (no, I’m still not over that complete waste of an episode). :P

Yamato: “So to sum it up, they’re just poorly-made fakes.” Yamato is so succinct. If I were an 11-year-old girl, I’d be crushing madly. Right, Sora? UwU

So. Many. Evolutions. XD; They should make them quicker or spread them out more!

Awww, it was kinda nice to see Ogremon vs Greymon again. I guess that episode was one of the better ones for me to think this . . . back when Toei still had some quality. :)

Angemon’s voice still kills me every time. X_x He honestly sounds like Taichi smoked 1000 cigarettes.

It was pretty neat to see a bunch of the kids’ past enemies - like a flashback episode but with actual plot! :D

Sephirothmon copying the trapped Digimon’s attacks and using it on the outside Digimon was pretty cool.

The animation for Angemon vs Devimon fighting was super funny, though. XD;

So we learn that Devimon was born from Angemon’s “darkness” . . . this is really interesting, but should have been revealed when Devimon was still alive and an active threat? lol.

Takeru runs funny, too, just like his older bro! :D

Angemon being turned "dark” was super cool and creepy. I dug it.

But Takeru being super brave is . . . yawn. It would’ve been a different story had he acted like an actual child at the beginning of the adventure, so there was growth - and it would’ve paid off here with immense bravery. But nope! Takeru’s journey has been a straight line of courage. He’s just consistently brave. So what did we expect here? The same thing, of course. YAWN.

Devimon to Takeru: “Why do you not run? Why do you not fear?” Because this little boy has the Crest of Courage! :D . . . Whatever the fuck a Crest is. :D

Takeru: “I trust you . . . Angemon!” Angemon: “So do I . . . No matter how deep I fall into the darkness, if you’re with me . . . I can fly!” Takeru: “Angemon!” Angemon: “Shadow, let me tell you one thing. Just as how you are indestructible, the light of hope will never disappear as well!” Good enough for an Ultimate evolution - and better than what preceded Yamato’s Mega evolution, lol. So I’m cool with HolyAngemon happening here. :P

So, the giant elephant in the room: HolyAngemon destroys Sephirothmon’s “eye”, but . . . why didn’t WarGreymon and/or MetalGarurumon? Taichi and Yamato just didn’t care to use their Mega evolutions? Oh, how convenient! :P

I liked that this episode had some relevance to the actual plot and wasn’t just complete filler like last week’s episode. So, to me, it was better by default. :P

Next week appears to be Taichi-centric - which I’m fine with, since he’s taken the backseat for a while now. The scarecrow looks interesting. We’ll see how it turns out! (Probably another disappointment. :D)

But this series has 20 episodes left (if the number 66 is indeed accurate) - so it really needs to get a move on with all the other kids’ alternate evolutions (if they will even have them . . .) and Mega evolutions! :c
