Happy Storyteller Saturday!
Today I'll send two questions (which are connected):
Question 1 - Imagine that your characters enter a magic labyrinth that shows them their biggest dream (s) come true. What do they see? Is their dream something they can achieve in real life?
Question 2 - In the same labyrinth, your characters enter a room that puts them face to face with (an illusion of) the person they hate the most or their worst fear. How do they react? Are they able to put up a fight against the illusion or do they need to be rescued? How do they feel in the aftermath of the confrontation?
Thanks for the ask! I actually learned quite a bit more about my ocs!
I have put off answering this because I did have to think about it for a bit, so here it is!
Answer 1
Blair: I think what he seeks is to be Understood, which isn't exactly something physically obtainable, but yeah!
Elijah: has always wanted to be a teacher! He genuinely wants to help people, especially children, since he didn't have a very fair childhood.
Darcy: no one cares about his dreams He thinks his dream is to serve humanity even at the cost of his and others' lives, but he truly wants to receive forgiveness from his loved ones/those he pushed away as a result of his arc
Frasier: to visit a flower field! A very peaceful experience, very far removed from a bustling city life & responsibilities
Answer 2
Blair: would be face-to-face with his high school bullies and/or his ex's. Anyone who has ever called him/treated him like a freak. In many scenarios, instead of fighting, he would curl up in a ball and surrender. Blair is an unusual character to write, as he either has 100% bravado or none at all. Depends on the situation. At the end of the day, he generally wears his heart on his sleeve.
Elijah: Facing Darcy, aka the reason for his outstanding debt. They have a tumultuous relationship, being the mayor is lowkey-highkey homicidal. Doesn't want to fight him, but if pushed, yes he will. Prefers to keep a low profile, but if pushed, Elijah will smite a man. Elijah would go in regretting the fight, but come out very relieved it wasn't actually Darcy.
Darcy: worst fear is hurting those he loves. oops, this may have happened a few times already! perhaps he gets haunted by the spirits of those he killed. I think he would come out of the labyrinth more depressed than anything else (he carries a lot of stress from his past).
Frasier: He is one of those guys that just shows up at the right place at the right time, so it's only natural that his greatest fear is being too late, i.e., missing the death of a loved one. Receiving a phone call that a loved one has died. Coming out of the labyrinth, I think would be very traumatizing.
...

''Same person different font'' thing regarding Mary and Dean's characters irk me so much lmao...
RIGHT omg like. On one hand we have a person who is authentically compassionate, is capable of acting outside of her own self-interest more often than not, doesn’t take out her emotions on the people around her, and owns her mistakes and shortcomings. On the other hand we have a person who is none of those things, and is furthermore a violent control freak who categorically abuses those closest to him. These are fundamental differences in the way these two characters interact with the world and others, which is far more significant in a comparison than any surface-level similarities. Liking cars and jerky does not a “same person different fonts” make.
Like lol I mean… I won’t be wholly disingenuous, I’m not going to pretend Mary and Dean have no commonalities whatsoever, because they do. In my take I’d say they both have something of a lying habit that they view not as necessarily harmful but as protecting others, as well as a tendency toward self-destructive behaviour and definitely some kind of saviour complex(?). But those similarities are still not nearly enough, in my opinion, to overshadow the fact that these two characters are otherwise, as outlined above, pretty much morally and socially disparate people. Which is to say, very much not the “literal same”.
It also just feels so reductive and honestly lazy to just write Mary off as just Dean: the Prequel or whatever and leave it at that. People do much the same with Claire (Dean 2: Simba’s Pride) and even with Max Banes (Dean the 3rd), and honestly it’s kind of. Dismal. That these characters can’t just stand on their own for a significant portion of the fandom and have to be reduced to “Dean mirrors” to warrant any thought, and are then only really thought about through that lens. Like I’m sorry that is NOT the deep character analysis you think it is 😭

Hi!! I'm super interested in the outfits you have your kirby ocs in. If it's not too much trouble (and only if you want to) could you go through the different garments they're all wearing when you have time?
I don’t have much time so I’ll do just one character this time but I’ll definitely post more outfit breakdowns for my other Kirby ocs! But yes I am super excited about outfit design and making sure that garments make functional sense so thank you so much for asking!! Feel free to ask again to give me an excuse to draw more of these
Here’s the one character I’ll cover this time! The dark matter hero of yore oc!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Thoughts are in the read more!
The main idea that I wanted to have for them was that they’re calm, collected, and kind of uptight due to imposed restrictions rather than it being their own character trait. Essentially my idea for this character is that they’re in a rather precarious place in terms of public perception due to the general belief that dark matter is has a negative moral connotation, but remain a “hero” just because the powers that be deemed that they needed to have four. Why? Who knows, perhaps they wanted to make sure that they had a scapegoat. They’re not a very powerful astral when they’re selected but they are made so through the gradual injection of dark matter into them, something which grows stronger from their sadness and hopelessness over their situation and begins to take over their subconscious until it is able to usurp their identity fully.
So the first layer is a full body covering in black, a turtleneck, black toeless knee socks, and a pair of sweatpants. The sweatpants are there to give the impression of looseness and relaxation, but gathered to show the bit of uptightness along with the tight turtleneck.
The second layer, a cool teal-ish gray tunic, is a nod to who they were before the injection of dark matter turned their hair white. Their original color was a greenish teal, a color that is not quite on the opposite side from red (which is associated strongly with dark matter) but still quite far from it. There’s some padding in the shoulders to give them a more solid shape with the other layers, and for comfort when the armor is put on. The side slits help with mobility. This tunic layer is made of very sturdy material that functions essentially as chain mail. It doesn’t give protection to the heart, the essential organ, but there is also a question of whether they want that to be protected or not, and whether it would even kill them or not to be stabbed through the heart.
The third layer is a cool off-white overcoat, and overwhelms the design with white because white is more associated with virtue than black is, and shows, beyond surface level light=good association, a feeling of emptiness. It is both a way that they try to distance themselves from the idea of “dark” matter and a sign of how they are forced to devoid themself of any personality or strong individuality to maintain good graces with the public.
The belt is mostly just a way for me to give more shape to the silhouette by gathering the waist, but the eye shaped brooch was a kind of last minute decision to add a bit extra detail! The leather strap of the belt wraps around the back and towards the front tapers off to a chain of metal beads, which have a hooked clasp at the front concealed by the eye brooch.
Finally, a long scarf/sash is wrapped off the shoulders and tucked in through the belt. There are two overlapping layers at the front, and the back layer is shorter than the front. This is a very constricting configuration that makes it difficult for them to raise their arms very high without displacing it. To keep it nicely on the shoulder, each side is help up with an eye-shaped pin, securing it to the white overcoat layer a bit under the shoulders. The red teardrop jewels hanging from those are just an extra pop of the red accent color. The underside of the scarf is red, but difficult to see if they keep their arms lowered.
In their more battle-ready outfit, they raise the dropped shoulder scarf up to wrap around the shoulders and neck, and fold the inside down to make it a red collar. This is symbolic of how they depend on the power of dark matter injected into them to fight. The collar is secured with the pins. Then, pauldrons are added, with the harness for them being secured with straps across the chest underneath the scarf and under their arms. I forgot to draw it but they also wear shin guards underneath the pants, over their socks.

Hello! I wanted to say(If it was okay)
1. Your design and the way you draw is amazing!•^•
2. If it’s okay to ask, what is a sparklecat? Like what makes one a sparklecat specifically? They seem so cool and I love the colors and designs and I’d love to make my own but I don’t really know how to make one and what the design rules are, if there are any
(Also sorry if I’m going this wrong, I’m still pretty new to tumblr and this is my first time asking)
Don’t worry, you’re good! And thank you! ^^
And though I’m really no expert on sparklecats by far, I believe there’s really only one rule with making a sparklecat: THERE ARE NO RULES!! HAVE FUN!! Be creative to your wildest dreams and make whatever you want, however you want, whenever you want!! That is the point of the sparklecat, a creative imagination that knows no bounds, no societal rules, and certainly no laws of physics!
In my eyes, the definition of a “sparklecat” (or “sparkledog” or any other sparklecreature) is a cat (or cat-based) OC with some sort of unnaturally/unrealistically colorful design. Which means, if you want to make a sparklecat that’s like…a pastel blue unicorn angel kitty made out of clouds, go right ahead! If you want to make a rainbow neonfest scenemo cat named Dark’ness Dementia Raven Way, go right ahead!! Or if you simply just want to slap some hot pink stripes on a mackerel tabby cat, that works too!!
They can easily be accessorized as much as you want and may often dip into fantasy elements with additional traits like angel or demon wings, magic wielding, horns, halos, extra long claws or sharp teeth, multiple tails, etc etc
There’s also a more specific kind of sparklecat that’s heavily intertwined with 2000s scenecore culture, with overlap into areas of inspiration like emo and goth fashion, rave fashion & PLUR culture, old internet memes, Lisa Frank, anime, kandi bracelets & kandi trading, Warrior Cats, video games (especially nostalgic games like Minecraft, Club Penguin, Webkinz, old flash games that are now defunct, etc), 2000s cartoons (My Little Pony, Invader Zim, etc), and a few specific music genres. Those kinds of sparklecats are my favorite, they usually represent a lot of + scenecore & emo fashion/culture and the artist’s childhood nostalgia for the 1990s-2010s era. I don’t have nearly enough OCs of the classic kind of sparklecat tbh, I need to make more sometime
But that’s pretty much it! I don’t really know what your creative process is for making characters or character designs, so I don’t know if I can help much further than that. There’s really no “standard of expectation” or a wrong way to make a sparklecat anyway. Just go have fun and make whatever your heart desires! Ty again! ^^

Might have asked you that before I'm not sure but. Do you have some sort of process for your redesigns?? What kind of stuff do you try and pay attention to when redesigning a character? I also wonder what is important to you visually when designing clothes? like, is there any type of shape hierarchy you try and go for? Also Where does your knowledge of clothes come from?
These ended up being many questions haha. Anyway love your redesigns, every one you do is like a little gift in my day!
those are all wonderful questions and i hope i can answer them (or even understand my creative process enough to give them) There are two design choices I try to stick to, one is thanks to me playing hero shooters and that's recognizable silhouettes: try to give the characters a unique shape or trait that even if you put them in different clothes or hairstyles, you can always tell it's meant to be them by that specific thing. The other is, thanks to fandoms, i know people like making OCs or trade characters around if there's factions, so I like making "faction" clothing that's unique to a group of people, whilst still making each character wear it uniquely even within the group itself lot of the designs are affected by what i SUBJECTIVELY perceive the character to be like and what style of clothing i connect to that kind of behavior, be it from real life experience or what just. flows nicely, i don't know how else to say it :') like there's difference between elegant or street wear, of course they can overlap, of course they have no dictating on what each of those means about each person, but good rule of thumb is that we dress to express ourselves on first glance (those that can afford to do so for whichever reason) so if you're daddy's little lawful good you're gonna dress differently than a bold punk. those are pretty basic thought processes, not much unique :'D so sadly i think lot of it just comes from my subjective perception of who these characters are and what i could highlight about them. as for the clothes themselves, i don't even know really, character design- from clothes to size, shape, color to body language- is just something i always loved to do and wanted to do, be it for games, comics, or re-designed existing characters :') i used to watch fashiuon shows, went to art school where most are poor students that are very creative and pretentious, i changed my style multiple times during each chapter in my life, i try to meet variety of people that affect me and inspire me. i usually have multiple ideas for a look per character but don't want to put a pin on it until it just clicks for me. there are few of those clicks i've missed in my MDZS redesigns but were close enough that i posted it anyway, as i was too excited to share them :') still may want to revisit it though! I'm so happy to know they did well though, it's something i've heard the most praise for from all of my art and i really wish i could follow up on it in more ways than just few more art of those looks. there's nothing that bothers me more than boring or not cohesive looks for a cast of otherwise interesting characters, MDZS donghua and CQL costume design were destroying me :') but it was enough to at least inspire me thank you for this task ♥♥

˚ʚ♡ɞ˚ Freak-ify Britney CAS Challenge ˚ʚ♡ɞ˚
by @puppycheesecake. Thank you for making the challenge, it was pretty fun! There's some trivia and a little bonus under the cut.
I couldn't decide which idea I liked the most, so I did both 😌 Now on to presenting the Britneys:
🤡🍬 Haunted Doll
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Just a very cute and dainty little clown ball-jointed doll. She likes pink and pompoms, and dislikes people that try taking a peek into the broken, dark crevice located on her stomach.
Treat her good, and she'll be good to you as well.
There are some absurd rumors that this doll became haunted thanks to the hatred she harbored towards the girl that broke her. As a dedicated collector, you know there's no such thing; people only make this kind of stuff up to secure rare dolls to themselves.
The newspapers that covered Britney Beigeleigh's death did prove it was suicide, after all.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
😈💘 Minion of Lilith
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Unwelcome criticism is everywhere and those who take it to heart shall lose themselves.
Britney was tired. It was as if there was a fault even if the way she breathed. If only she could find a way to prove there was more to her if people would just make an effort to go past the surface...
Her troubles fell on listening ears. But little did she know, the occult have a different point of view on certain things. And now, whatever remains of her soul is now forever bound to the deal she made on that night.
Can't say she didn't get exactly what she wanted, though. Now everyone can't seem to get enough of her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
♡ Succubus!Britney is buck naked so I thought it was better to censor her nips and 🐈‍⬛ just to be safe. And it's not like I couldn't put any clothes on her; they just kinda ruined the vibe for some reason? She does have an outfit though!
♡ The texture on Succubus!Britney's collar was overlapping onto the wings, but that actually made them look cooler so I kept it that way! The collar and womb tattoo are indicative of her deal with the demoness whom she made a deal with so I didn't want to take it off. The metallic part looks silly, but the rest makes it look like she has moth-like patterns on her bat wings.
♡ The saddest thing is that Doll!Britney doesn't look as clown-esque as I wanted her to because the texture on ruffle collar I wanted to put on her was overlapping with the one on her dress... 🥲
♡ I feel like they're looking rather simple but I wanted to put a ton more CC on them and things were either overlapping with one another or there were simply not enough slots to have everything all at once *head in hands*
♡ I did change their traits though! Doll!Britney is a Loner, is Proper and Evil; Succubus!Britney Hates Children, is a Cat Lover and Evil.
♡ These two Britneys may or may not be accomplices and girlfriends...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I may keep them as my OCs, I've gotten attached already 😹

okay, really random question cause i’m nosy (also, totally don’t have to answer if you/your spouse isn’t comfortable with it). are any of your OC’s based on/inspired by your spouse? or if not, which of the characters you’ve written for do they share the most traits with?
i know you’ve answered this about yourself before, but i’m just kinda wondering how these responses would complement each other, you know?
Hi Bestie!
I don't mind at all!
I do have an OC in my novel who isn't ENTIRELY based on my husband but there's a lot of overlap. This character is a romantic hero eventually but he and the MC (who is the one who overlaps with me the most, I think) are just friends for a while and he will make a very similar speech to what my husband made to me when we got together lol (which I will share if there's any interest. The husband speech not the character speech as I haven't written that part yet lol I just know when and how it will happen)
I also draw from things about him to sprinkle into other characters, but that's less of an exclusive trait lol I do that with a lot of people I know (including exes but I'm friends with a lot of my exes and my husband is totally fine with that.)
He does know that I draw from him (and other people) for characters and I do kind of wonder if he would recognize the stuff that comes from him. He's not big on the genres I write so he hasn't read much? But I hope he could.
But yeah! He's definitely influenced some characters lol
Thank you for asking and being interested! Love you!!

another question for my sweet girl daenys: what canon character, either within this universe and/or any other fandom, would you say she's most alike?
Oooh, this feels both hard & easy? Because I know that I am constantly intaking characters & their little idiosyncrasies & fun little personality quirks will work their way into my OCs. Looking directly at one of my anime OCs when I say this. So lemme see if I can place some characters, because I know there's some pieces.
Out of universe, she's giving very "Gretchen Wieners." Daenys is a hyper feminine, girly wet-eyed failwoman who wants to matter & be important & have people look up to her...but she is so bad at it. Daenys cannot girlboss, her empire crumbles the minute she starts building it.
And I know you haven't started Death Note yet, but there's some Misa Amane in her, I think. The bubbly, ditzy blonde gir persona that hides her willingness to go to some dark places, the latching onto a guy who gives her something she deeply craved (in Daenys's case: being just as significant than her now-heir sister), romantic daydreams, being perhaps a bit delusional. It's all there, black-and-white, clear as crystal.
Honestly, I think most any super girly character that gets written off as shallow & is maligned (even if only briefly) by people either in-narative or by viewers could be an apt comparison.
In-universe...maybe Margaery? Like, Sansa & Margaery merged into one person??? She's got the dreamy romanticness, she's spoiled & privileged & touted as "the obedient child" that leads to her sorta getting the free range treatment. She falls back onto stereotypical feminity because she likes it, but also because it can be used as a manipulaton tactic. Tbfh, Margaery's show writing is all over the fuckin place, but there's a handful of consistencies that lend to the "girly for manipulation" thing. It's hard comparing her to characters within asoiaf/hotd/got, because while she fits well she's also not getting a lot of overlap because of how she goes about the traits she shares with other characters.
Also, kind of related: but after actually sitting down to watch Spartacus, I can accurately say that I made a good call by having Viva Bicanca (especially as Ilithya) be Daenys's (adult, obvi) face reference. I'm not gonna say "she's definitely similar to Ilithya," but the vibe is so, so very correct

I don't think Mercy and Machete look alike. Their shapes are different - we can have more than one sad dog with pointed ears guys. If you did repaint Mercy in Machete's colors you'd still be able to tell them apart very easily?! Again, their shapes are different! And if Mercy was white like Machete,, there can be more than one white dog with pointed ears. I am NOT saying run off and go copy every oc you see, they still need to be different and unique, but what I mean is: characters can have overlapping traits sometimes and that's impossible to completely avoid because guess what THERE CAN BE MORE THAN ONE DOG WITH POINTED EARS AND SADNESS eihfjwjdjsjw
I love Mercy's design sm, I might make some fan art as well! Thank you to the anon who asked for permission:)
I agree. Nowadays it's very rare to come across an oc with features that are purely unique, specially since now lots of us work under certain margins such as using premade species or making ocs that belong to certain categories like anthros or furries. Me personally, I draw a lot of different creatures but a handful of my ocs are anthro.
On Mercy's case, he has a simple and generic design to some degree, which will also cause lots of overlapping, naturally. (Plus he's my main so it would be difficult to draw him often if his design is complicated, at least for me.)
There's plenty of anthro sighthounds besides the ones made by me and Canisalbus too, but I won't mention them as I don't want others to potentially be accused of stealing or something like that.
Thanks for the last bit btw! I appreciate it

Seeing your Egg Empire OCs REALLY gets my brain in the "Draw Your Sonic OCs dangit" mode; you're really dang good and coming up with stature and powers and stuff! If I were to be considering tooling around with a new Sonic OC, what's some pitfalls you'd have advice on avoiding? I really want to make sure my OCs look and feel like Sonic characters, and I feel like you've done an amazing job at that - heck, most of your art with Byte and Starline looks OFFICIAL at a glance!
Awww! I'm so happy that it makes you want to draw your ocs ;v;! Please do! give love to your creations <33
Thank you, by the way! I'm glad my art looks official :D! I do my best in drawing it all as close to the canon source as possible x)!
As for OC creation tips... I usually follow these small rules that I've set for myself. They're not strict and you don't have to follow them if you don't want, but it's what I follow when I work on my creations:
-Silhouette: Create a silhouette for them that is recognizable. If the character can be recognized by just their silhouette it means it's a good design! Take your character and put a flat color over all their drawing and look at it, do you recognize it at first glance? If not, then adding an exaggerated trait that gives shape to their silhouette could work!
-Avoid Overlapping Elements: This fits the silhouette rule! If an element doesn't really contribute to the character's silhouette or just clutters the design, then ditch it. The simplest the design is, the better! You don't need to give them tons of detail inside their silhouette to make them cool.
-Give them a Motif or Characteristic Element: Is there something that you look at and make you think of your oc? Give them an element that makes them to stand up from the rest!
-Limited Color Palette: Most of Sonic OCs have from 6-8 colors to 12 max. Try to limit the colors of your oc to that amount to have a more cohesive color scheme.
-Where do they fit?: When creating an OC, the first thing I do is to think: What void can I fill? What does the franchise doesn't have? For Example, Eggman has an Empire but they don't show how that Empire works, so good questions could be... who does the accounting? Who cleans the floors? who prepares his food? And from that point you can start creating a concept!
-Strength/Weakness Balance: Whenever you give them an ability or power, create a weakness that affects that ability. Do they have fire powers? make them weak to water powers. Do they use electric device? Give them a limited battery life. Etc.
that's all I can think for now :D I hope it helps!

Hi, I'm not alterhuman myself (as far as i know) but plan on writing one.
So my interpretation of a character I love (Silver the Hedgehog specifically) is deeply connected to angels while not specifically identifying as one, and they (they/ae pronouns in my human!AU) use this angel theming as a superhero. However, idk how to express this side of aer character and relate it to their personality/identity, without overshadowing other aspects of them if that makes sense? I use "angelhearted" to refer to this, but lately I've been feeling that it either isn't that accurate or I'm not portraying it right. Do you have any tips on portraying alterhumanity in writing? If not, do you know anyone who does?
Oh this is an interesting question! Sorry for the late response. I don't have alterhuman OCs, but I can breakdown my experience of being otherhearted and how that could translate to written expressions. A character who is deeply connected to angels without identifying as one certainly sounds like a 'hearted experience.
My hearttype is something that has shaped who I am. I see it as there being two forms of expression: the internal and the external. The extent of which any person focuses on either varies between people.
Personally, I'm quite shy with external expressions and there's little that I do that indicates my hearttype. (Scale weaving, taking walks through fields, and having an open interest in astronomy for some examples. Certainly nothing that looks meaningful together to anyone but me.) On the flip side of internal expressions, there exists my reason for why I feel 'otherhearted' fits me. There's no brief explanation for it, but it involves my daemon being a complimentary part of me. I am incapable of looking at their alien species and not seeing myself in them. It is also my ideal self. Actions I'll take include daydreaming, starting envisage shifts, meditating to induce phantom shifts, going about my day while letting my mind drift about how my hearttype perceives the world, and pondering how the species behavior compares to myself (which is something I have retroactively learned about myself through). I even wrote a daemon style analysis once. If a narration of myself existed mostly outside of my head, there would be little indication of alterhumanity :p I think regulating how the narration is balanced between self-perception and actions could provide good flexibility in how to focus the writing. Certain actions they take and habits they have can be mentioned without continually explaining the reason behind them. It's also worth mentioning that it's very common for folks to go through cycles of how connected they feel to their 'types.
For character examples, I think Hiccup is a good one who reads as alterhuman. In the first movie, the way he regarded dragons was considered weird for his community, one way of marking his relationship with them as unusual. Dragons are an pivotal part of his character and he loves incorporating them into his life. In his pursuit of learning more about them, they've brought out good traits in him. His mannerisms aren't draconic, but he does actively try forming a closer relationship with dragons in his own image through wearing scales and inventing a wingsuit. Hiccup reads as dragonhearted to me, but some would say dragonkin due to Valka's "soul of a dragon" line. Honestly, there's a lot of overlapping experiences between the two.
I know Poppy mentioned another character as a good example of being otherhearted.
I'll be honest, I cannot remember who has made alterhuman OCs. But @who-is-page if you're up for it, do you have any advice for writing alterhuman characters?
Of course anyone else, please feel free to add on to this ^^

Character Headcannons/Breakdown - Rook Raccoon
Tumblr media
Okay, I'll be the first to admit this gets a little sad in some parts. I was going through it when I wrote this, what can I say?
* Her first name is supposed to invoke the chess piece. It's because she's basically used like little more than a game piece by Pyko and Gideon.
* Her last name is an homage to my dad's last name. He died unexpectedly while I was writing "Stand By Me", so I made her last name sound like his. Her taking Rocket’s last name at the end was a quiet way of me saying goodbye to him.
* She represents "found family" gone toxic. Each of the stories I do in this series is about love. "Flowers" is romantic love. "Star-Man" is the love that comes with loss. "Stand By Me" is about love and family. The Guardians are one of the best examples of found family that's done well in MCU, so I wanted to show what the inverse of that was.
* The school she goes to, Gideon university, is based off predatory colleges that were rampant during my college years. I had a friend over 150k in debt to a game design school with these practices.
* She's a sharklike alien because I really like sharks, you guys. Also I love Guillermo del Toro films, like most self-respecting weirdos and oddballs, and I think "The Shape of Water" is one of the finest love stories I've ever seen.... The more I examine my interests the less shocked I am that I ended up where I did.
* She's aro ace! The more I realized "oh. This isn't a one-off fanfic, this is going to be a personality trait of mine now" the more I wanted to be mindful of different representations. I also have a very longtime friend who is aro ace, and she keeps me really in touch with the fact there isn't a lot of rep out there. So it's a love letter to her as well.
* She's a professional V-tuber who goes under the name "Catfish".
* She's more of the software side of tech, whereas Rocket seems to favor hardware. I figured this would differentiate her skillset just enough that she'd be able to stand out as a unique character without too much overlapping skillsets from existing characters. This is something I try to be mindful of as well when creating OCs.
* Groot is one of her best friends and they do a lot of gaming together.
* Rocket DMs a game with them and a few of the other Guardians in it.
* She loves going all-in for holidays because her parents never really did.
* Her culture as a whole is very cold and very "get it yourself" from a VERY young age. Eggs take five years total to hatch and if the hatchlings struggle to get out of the egg, it's considered a sign that they aren't strong enough to survive in the outside world.
* There's a time where this would have been very relevant on their world, but modern progress has made this point moot. The harsh conditions of Icathia no longer exist, but the world has been slow to change from its harhness. Needing to rely on others is still seen as a moral failing.
* A lot of this culture comes from me remembering stories about friends getting kicked out at eighteen and being very, very angry that I was also eighteen at the time and couldn't do much to help them. Rook was my little way of being like "I'm sorry I couldn't do more to protect you. I was a kid too." I also saw a "fun craft idea" that was a "countdown" to when a kid turned 18 and would get kicked out of the house and if that didn't give me the BIGGEST anxiety attack to look at.
* Meti's first time going to jail was for Rook. He and Rocket were both arrested for brawling with her biological parents. <3
* Mara, her daughter, struggled to break out of her egg. Rook didn't think twice about helping her break out of it. She was going to break the cycle she came from
* It took her a LONG time to realize her parents and family loved her unconditionally. When she became a mother, it helped things really click for her
* She has Caldon's equivalent of a Masters in software engineering.
* Some of her favorite Earth music are things like City Pop and Future Funk. Also a huge Vocaloid fan
* Loves the beach and the water. If she isn't working she can be found hanging out by one of the ponds at the nature preserve
* She still struggles with her anxiety a LOT, but she's working towards getting better. She still didn't sleep for three days when Mara started school.
* She loves hanging out with Skye and helping her with some of her creative pursuits. This can include things like wiring LED lighting for costumes Skye makes.
* She lives in the apartment next door to Rocket and Meti. She makes enough for her own place, but she just loves being close to her family
* She's still puzzled/fascinated by mammals as a whole.
* She's always up for board game night

unfortunately, petty drama about people none of you have met for my own personal comfort! you don't need to read this, i just want something set in stone and timestamped for this tomfoolery. to new followers, this is not a regular feature, it's just an ongoing situation i have been made aware of and unfortunately now have to speak on significantly.
i cannot believe it has come to this but. my ex-friend has moved ahead with just taking julia out from under me and changing only a few key aspects.
i believe this is a pattern of behavior on her part where as soon as she ends things with a friend, she takes their original characters and retools them as an attempt to 'reclaim' her own oc's narrative. she did this with two previous ex friends that i am aware of, renaming one oc and rendering him a abusive ex-boyfriend to her oc, and renaming another and making her a vague evil bitch in an entirely different fandom. if necessary, i can provide receipts on this from personal communication.
her latest oc, mara barkov, follows in this pattern of behavior and bears significant physical and narrative resemblance to my oc, julia mayfair. which is not just my personal take, either, as other onlookers agree this is possibly a pointed attempt to do to me what she has to other exes in the past. in addition, she has continued to take key character components of julia and put them upon her other oc, elisabeth ackland. i have reason to believe this person is taking the 'better traits' of julia's layered nature and putting them on her heroic character while setting up what's left as a strawman for her own frustrations with me for ending our friendship and collaboration efforts earlier this summer.
furthermore, and i also have receipts for this, my oc julia had an au c. 2016 as an avatar of the goddess mara. this person was active on tumblr for the duration of that au. this could be coincidental but i do believe she knows what she is doing in naming her most recent character explicitly for said goddess. she has also been active in taking a lot of dynamics/headcanons from a ship i had with a particular canon character, where the other half of the collaboration was active in the 'mara' au. basically, i'm left to wonder if she's singling in on my interactions with a specific person for her own ends.
this is not a call to action. this is not a callout, strictly speaking. i'm not even trying to stir up drama because frankly i never want to interact with this person again or give them the attention of naming and shaming them.
this is me leaving a written record that i am aware of the situation and have some reference that my oc existed long before july 2023, long before mara barkov, and that this person has ulterior motives rather than coincidentally overlapping ideas. i do not yet know if these concepts will be brought to tumblr, but i am prepared to press the issue if it's brought directly to my doorstep. i have records dating back over a decade of julia existing on multiple accounts run by me, as well as where this person interacted with me for as long until july of this year.
tl;dr: i'm tired, i'm having my oldest oc yanked out from under me in a vague attempt to 'punish' me, and i just need a place to talk about it and batten down the hatches.

so who are *your* vibe ocs? :0
*deep inhale* lemme just check my notes. there are...a lot of them.
Ben and Ty from Apocalypse Story are strong vibes ocs. although I've given each of them some traits and personality quirks, they are largely two overlapping sets of vibes. Ben is the nervous, earnest, hopeful, lonely kind, and Ty is the unaffected, mysterious, pop-culture quoting, lonely kind.
all the kids from Thief story are vibes thus far. Ivan is the mischievous MC kid, Reed is the leaderly kid, Dreya is the adventurous kid, Poppy is the flighty, sassy kid, Caro is the unsure kid, and Katlan is the reliable kid.
Dair from Summon Story is largely vibes. he grew up in the Claybeak gang and recently left, so he's lost and awkward, and doesn't trust easily. the Claybeaks are a gang notorious for stealing children's dreams to feed them to spirits, and then the spirits possess the kids to hep them with thievery or even murder! Dair's vibes are fidgety and splotchy.
Ernest from Magick story is all vibes. he's a cool dude! he likes rocks and doing magick with rocks and going into caves and discovering rocks and teaching kids about rocks. he's got grey skin and red hair (from working with rocks) and he has the best catchphrase.
Emrik and Qaz from Ghost story are vibes. Emrik is "intelligent academic did not sign up to be a ghost in another dimension" and Qaz is "I'm too smart and cool to be solving your ghost problems but I'm also loyal friend so here I am'." Qaz is also a werecat, which is cool.
Era and Lin from Portal Story are a singular vibe, that being "I met someone from another world and I'm afraid to lose them and never see them again."
Faroom from Space Story is literally a cosmic being, so of course they're a vibe.
Gale from Summer Story is the vibe of "mentor you didn't know you needed until just now."
everybody from Emporium Story is a vibe currently. harried retail workers.
Lunetta and Sebastian from Train story, but they're supposed to be vibes? the whole wip is just VIBES the story.
Ondo from Guild Story! a vibe. the cat and curiosity. I don't have anything else.
that's it for the greater vibes-over-actual-character characters.
thanks for the reverse uno, Amarantine!

hi katy :)) i’m sure you’ve answered this before, and if you have, you can totally just ignore this ask, but recently i’ve been wondering if i have adhd. i’m a 20 year old woman, and i’ve been diagnosed with anxiety for basically my whole adolescence. in the past few weeks though i’ve learned a lot more about adhd/neurodivergence and i feel like it’s much more accurate to my experience. my only real exposure to adhd is my little brother, who has been diagnosed since he was 12 and behaves VERY differently than i do. if you could possibly detail your experience with adhd as a woman that would really help me out a lot in deciding if i want to pursue a new diagnosis. thanks in advance!!
Hi there!
ADHD/autism/neurodiversity in general can be experienced a lot of different ways by people; it's a very broad spectrum, but there are definitely traits that pop up again and again for a lot of people. Here are some traits I have personally identified as being influenced/driven by my ADHD (or autism, sometimes it's hard to distinguish the two)
Very poor impulse control, especially with money and food
Having poor memory in some areas but excellent memory in others (usually due to how strongly the topic interests me)
Having trouble remembering things (as in appointments, important dates, etc)
Having a very hard time focusing or maintaining focus
Easily distracted
Fidgets often (my fidgets are picking through my split ends and jiggling my ankle)
Needing to take frequent breaks when working/doing chores/etc due to burnout
Needing CONSTANT stimulation; for example, much of my free time is spent listening to Youtube video essays while I color manga, typeset, scan things, etc. Sometimes I do just watch things (especially late at night when I'm tired), but I don't think I could ever do a menial task without having some other stimulation for my brain
Talking to myself
Info-dumping
Being amazing at multi-tasking (but struggling with single-tasking because of the whole "need more stimulation" thing)
Hyper-fixating on things to the point of not realizing I'm thirsty, have a crick in neck, etc
I daydream frequently and have an entire daydream universe (called a paracosm) full of my own OCs and storylines. I'm what's called an immersive daydreamer. Immersive daydreaming/maladaptive daydreaming is its own thing, but from what I've heard people who do it are often also neurodivergent. If you daydream a lot about a fictional universe(s) of your own creation, I would highly recommend looking into this topic.
My brain literally never shuts the fuck up. Ever. I'm constantly thinking about SOMETHING. Even when I'm trying to fall asleep I'm playing with my OCs and paracosm, lol (one of my favorite parts of the day tbh). Because of this I've suffered from insomnia for much of my life. I've been on a sedative that also functions as an antidepressant for many years and it's helped a lot.
I literally just learned that this has a name: Rejection sensitive dysphoria (RSD). People with ADHD are often highly sensitive to criticism and rejection (real or imagined). For my entire life I have been extremely sensitive to being criticized, and all this time it has been a side-effect of my ADHD!
When given a task, I need to be told exactly what to do and how to do it or else it's not getting done. In general I have a hard time "thinking outside the box" and can be pretty oblivious.
Executive dysfunction is a bitch. This also overlaps with depression and autism, but basically I have a literal mountain of projects and hobbies I want do and another literal mountain of shows/anime/movies I want to watch but I can't get past the mental hurdle of actually engaging with them. It's very hard to explain, but it's like even though I want to do them I either don't have the energy, get overwhelmed by the enormity of the task, start doing it and then lose focus/motivation partway through, etc.
That's all I could think of off the top of my head but I'm sure there's more. I feel like every week I discover there's a new way ADHD is impacting my life. Please let me know if you have any other questions!

Cloud Nine Contrails - context post
Tumblr media
So basically. Being mentally well as I am I have TWO JoJo's Bizarre Adventure fanparts thought up, and the first one is "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Cloud Nine Contrails". The part doesn't have its own JoJo but keeping the name instead of changing it was favoured in a poll I did.
Here's what you need to know for the setting!
Cloud Nine Contrails takes place primarily in (a fictionalised version of) the US city of Detroit, Michigan, and the surrounding Metro Detroit area. It starts in 2020, and might supposedly take place in an alternate version of the original timeline where things didn't go to shit nearly as badly as they did in canon Stone Ocean (not gonna elaborate for spoilers' sake, if you know you know).
The main reason for referring to it as a "fictionalised version of" the city of Detroit is mostly the presence of a decently-sized patch of forested area which does not exist in real-life Detroit (where the closest forested area is approximately an hour away according to my previous research). This forested area is more towards the middle between east and west Detroit, but isn't in the centre of the city. It's located behind a children's playground. 1
Also, in this timeline, COVID-19 did not become a pandemic, likely handled a lot more quickly and responsibly than it was IRL, so COVID doesn't really come into play even though the part takes place in 2020.
Quick Summary
Detroit, the largest city in Michigan with a notoriously high crime rate; 2 while the average tourist might be fine, average crime isn't the only thing locals have to worry about—the city is also home to two rival gangs, the Urban Deathgrinds and the Metro Poppers. It goes unspoken, but everyone knows the gangs hold influence over the area; and they're not just ordinary gangs—both are Stand-based, making Detroit a hotbed for not just crime, but Stand activity.
Cloud Nine Contrails focuses on a very cutesy 17-year-old highschooler named Limbo Adkins, whose anxiety and good nature aren't exactly suitable traits for a gangster, however useful her Stand.
Other Important Details
Cloud Nine Contrails was created as an independent thing but became heavily influenced by events that happened in RP, which led to the presence of an interesting area loosely termed as a 'dimensional hub', the setting of which was mainly and initially an abandoned city with one standing building known as the hotel, referred to as simply "the Skylands Hotel", where most interactions occurred. Dimensional hubs are essentially a place with a weak metaphysical barrier, allowing for any individuals from different locations, worlds, time periods and universes to all arrive there and interact with each other... intentionally, or by being scooped up by the universe (the RPer's whim) and dumped through the barrier.
In this dimensional hub, one major access point is 2002 Naples, meaning that Cloud Nine Contrails features significant overlap with characters from Vento Aureo, that is specifically to say Guido Mista, Giorno Giovanna and Pannacotta Fugo.
Certain characters are revived due to 'shenanigans' (some explained, some not) and any canon character + OC relationships (platonic or romantic) are a result of RP progression. According to the events of RP and general consensus from my friends who RP the Vento Aureo characters, Purple Haze Feedback is canon.
There are no other significant involved overlaps with other JoJo parts, only having a few occasional 'guest appearances' from characters from Diamond is Unbreakable and Stone Ocean; notably Ermès and Emporio from Stone Ocean as recurring non-vital appearances, as well as Josuke Higashikata and a teenaged Shizuka Joestar from Diamond is Unbreakable as similar non-vital appearances. These overlaps are connected to the events of the game Eyes of Heaven, supposedly.
And unless I'm forgetting something by final note; my friends made characters to go in my fanpart so I'll mark any of their characters appropriately as not my design (all art is still mine unless otherwise stated).
I did forget something! A content warning for the thing.
I'm not gonna list everything but like... just know this is a general warning for some mature/heavy themes at some parts of the story; nothing terribly graphic (hopefully), I doubt any of the violence will be beyond what's canon-typical, but like- if you're very sensitive I get it, I'd recommend you proceed with caution or just avoid this,
but for some main things I figure I should warn about: mentions or implications of general abuse (multiple kinds), S/A, possibly self-harm; also some direct portrayal of an ED (but there's also recovery/catharsis), some pretty harsh toxicity in regards to the aforementioned, overall general discrimination (racism, homophobia, etc.). I've got a pretty diverse cast who've faced some pretty harsh parts of society.
I'd say a good chunk of my characters here are minorities in some way or another, whether they're queer, trans, disabled, POC, non-Christian, or neurodivergent.
I write characters from a lot of different backgrounds with a lot of different life experiences; as a white, cis-passing, able-bodied American, it's safe to say I don't share a lot of those experiences and I suppose I don't know what it's like, but I try my hardest to portray things as respectfully as possible (especially with things that are frequently demonised, like schizophrenia and bipolar disorder) and to create normal, compelling characters who have these experiences without it coming across forced or offensive. I've been told I've done well portraying characters like this, so hopefully I can keep up that trend... I also still need to get better at drawing hijab. (Characters with ADHD is just me projecting)
and if you have a problem with, like, half of my roster being queer then the best time to leave is now . if i see homophobes or racists here im gonna
1 this location may not be real but by the time I realised there aren't forests in Detroit the forest and playground had already become a major setting. In my defense, I didn't know that not every place in every northern US State had a fuckton of forests. I'm from PA. There's forests fuckin' everywhere here, I thought that was just normal and never bothered to check. My bad.
2 "Homicides in Detroit rose 5% in 2019 over the previous year, when there were 259 killings in the city, according to the police figures." - George Hunter from The Detroit News
