Binging with Babish: Crêpes from Talladega Nights [source]
“Crêpes are discussed at length, in a pretty threatening manner, in Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby.  Before his arm is snapped by the very French Jean Girard, he's coerced into admitting he likes crêpes... which he actually does.  Which makes sense, because they're the perfect vessel for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert.”

Holmes & Watson (2018) Review
Tumblr media
This in the same year as the huge successes of The Sisters Brothers and Stan & Ollie? WTF John C. Reilly???
Plot: Detective Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson join forces to investigate a mysterious murder at Buckingham Palace. It seems like an open-and-shut case as all signs point to Professor James Moriarty, the criminal mastermind and longtime nemesis of the crime-solving duo. When new twists and clues begin to emerge, the world's greatest sleuth and his trusted assistant must now use their legendary wits and ingenious methods to catch the killer before the queen becomes the next victim.
This movie’s a turd. All the bad reviews are well founded. What should have been a welcome return of the comedic duo that is Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly after there successive partnership in Talladega Night: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby and Step Brothers ends up being the most bafflingly unfunny piece of I-don’t-even-know-what of the past few years. I only chuckled zero times! Both Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly spend the entire film screaming in high pitch voices with over-the-top bad British accents and jumping around like flamboyant flamingos. This is apparently supposed to be funny. Hey, I might be old-fashioned, but I just don’t get it. There is a whole scene dedicated to a gag of Ferrell’s Sherlock Holmes trying out different hats to find one that will become his trademark and one of the hats is literally a red “Make America Great Again” cap. Are you actually for real? Conan Doyle would shudder in his grave if he heard this nonsense. The lack of respect to the source material, and as a matter of fact to us, the audience, is preposterous.
It’s not all bad, to be fair. There are glimmers where the movie tries to......no, I’m just kidding, the movie has no redeeming qualities. Even though its set in Victorian times, the set pieces look cheap and the cinematography is amateur to none. None of the jokes land, the plot makes hardly any sense, cliches are having a party and the cast members for their lousy paychecks have added the worst film of their entire careers to their IMDb filmography. Heck, even the legend that is Ralph Fiennes is in this movie as the villainous Professor Moriarty. He was in Citizen Kane which means he must be good here! No, he’s just as useless. Having only about two lines of dialogue, he spends the entire film just staring menacingly at the camera. Very very menacingly. Cheers Fiennes, now stop this stupid nonsense and get back to doing good movies that are actually worth your time! Kelly Macdonald, she seems nice. She was in Trainspotting, recently did Goodbye Christopher Robin.....well here she is Mrs Hudson who has sex with everyone. Yep, that is literally the whole gag with her. Way to support #MeToo and #Time’sUp, guys. Way to go! You’re doing great! Gosh, I hate this movie. And it’s not even one of those times where a movie is so crap that it is actually funny. A lot of Will Ferrell comedies are like that actually. No, Holmes & Watson is just crap, full stop!
Overall score: 1/10
P.S. I wasn’t planning on doing a Top 10 Worst Movies of 2018 list, but if I did, guess what No.1 would be? Clue: The answer is right in-front of you.

Talladega Nights-The Ballad of Ricky Bobby
Talladega Nights-The Ballad of Ricky Bobby – Những Đêm Talladega
Nội dung phim:
Talladega Nights-The Ballad of Ricky Bobby kể về cuộc đời của tay đua nổi tiếng Ricky Bobby.

Best Movies Coming to Netflix in July 2021
https://ift.tt/2UQ1B1r
Movies are back. It at least feels that way when you see the numbers that films like F9 and A Quiet Place Part II are earning. But more than just the thrill of going back to theaters, July signals what is typically considered to be the height of the summer movie season. On a hot evening, there are few things better than some cold air conditioning and a colder drink of your choice while escapism plays across a screen.
That can prove just as true at home as in theaters. And as luck would have it, Netflix is pretty stuffed with new streaming content this month. Below there are space adventures, comedies, dramas, and more than a few epics worth your attention, either as a revisit or new discovery. And we’ve rounded them up for your scrolling pleasure.
Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (1997)
July 1
When the first Austin Powers opened in 1997, it was intended to be as much a crude love letter to the popular cinema of the 1960s as a modern day raunchy laugh-fest. Now with the benefit of another 20 years’ worth of hindsight, Mike Myers and Jay Roach’s spoof of Bondmania is itself an amusing time capsule of 1990s comedy tropes. There’s Myers’ cartoonishly larger-than-life characters—beginning with Powers but most dementedly perfected with Dr. Evil, the comedian’s riff on Ernst Stavro Blofeld—as well as the pair’s embrace of what they considered to be the defining trappings of the late ‘90s.
The film’s nostalgia for the ‘60s and its value as a piece of kitsch ‘90s nostalgia makes this Austin Powers (and to a lesser extent the second movie, The Spy Who Shagged Me) a fascinating relic, as well as a genuinely funny lowbrow symphony of sex gags, bathroom humor, and multiple digs at British stereotypes, including bad teeth. In other words, it’s a good time if you don’t take it too seriously. Just avoid the third one, which is also coming to Netflix.
The Karate Kid (1984)
July 1
1984’s The Karate Kid is the cultural apex of Reagan America’s obsession with martial arts movies and Rocky-style underdog stories. It offered ’80s kids the ultimate fantasy of learning martial arts to defeat local bullies and finding time to squeeze in a love subplot along the way. Granted, the Cobra Kai series has thrown a wrench into this film’s seemingly simple morality tale, but just try not to root for Daniel by the time you reach arguably the greatest montage in movie history.
There’s also something eternally comforting about watching Pat Morita beat-up ’80s thugs while validating parents everywhere by suggesting that you to can one day grow up to be a great warrior if you just sweep the floor, wax the car, and paint the fence.
Love Actually
July 1
Christmas in July? Sure, why not. This Yuletide classic likely needs no introduction. Writer-director Richard Curtis’ Love Actually is the ultimate romantic comedy, stuffing every cliché and setup from a holiday bag of tricks into one beautifully wrapped package. Perhaps its greatest strength though is it mixes in a touch of the bitter with its sweet, and doesn’t hide the thorns in its bouquet of roses. Plus, its use of “All I Want for Christmas” is still a banger nearly 20 years on.
Admittedly, we aren’t particularly inclined to watch this in July ourselves, but if you don’t mind the Christmas of it all, there are few better rom-coms in your queue at the moment.
Memoirs of a Geisha (2005)
July 1
This adaptation of the Arthur Golden novel of the same name was one of the highest profile literary adaptations of the early 2000s. It’s the story of a young girl sold to a geisha house in the legendary Gion district of Kyoto who then grows up to be the most famous geisha of 1930s imperial Japan… right before the war. The film (like its source material) had controversy in its day due to having a somewhat exoticized view of Japanese customs, as well as for the casting of Chinese actresses Michelle Yeoh and Zhang Ziyi in the roles of icons of Japanese culture, with Zhang playing central geisha Sayuri.

But whatever its shortcomings, Memoirs of a Geisha is still an exquisitely crafted melodrama that provides an often delicate window into one of he most graceful and misunderstood arts. The film won Oscars for its costumes, art direction, and cinematography for a reason. Plus whenever Zhang and the actually Japanese Ken Watanabe share the screen, unrequited sizzle is hot to the touch.
Mortal Kombat (1995)
July 1
Look, 1995’s Mortal Kombat isn’t a great movie in the classic sense of the word. Those looking for notable ’90s schlock might even have a better time with 1994’s Street Fighter and Raul Julia’s scene-stealing performance as General M. Bison.
Yet at a time when video game movies still struggle to capture the magic of the games themselves, Mortal Kombat stands tall as one of the few adaptations that feel like an essential companion piece. It might lack the blood and gore that helped make 1992’s Mortal Kombat arcade game a cultural touchstone, but it perfectly captures the campy, shameless joy that has defined this franchise for nearly 30 years.
Star Trek (2009)
July 1
The idea of a Star Trek movie reboot wasn’t greeted with universal enthusiasm when it was first announced but then J.J. Abrams delighted many fans by creating a Trek origin story that was both familiar and new. Chris Pine shone as the cocky Kirk, bickering with Zachary Quinto’s Vulcan Spock while trying to save the universe from a pesky Romulan (Eric Bana). This was a standalone that could be enjoyed by audiences completely ignorant of the Star Trek legacy which also achieved the feat of not annoying many long-term followers of the multiple series. It was a combination of humor, heart, action and a zingy cast that won the day – it’s still the best of the three Star Trek reboot movies to date.
Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby (2005)
July 1
Alongside Step Brothers, Tallageda Nights remains a a biting snapshot of the 2000s zeitgeist from writer-director Adam McKay. Eventually he would drop (most of) the crude smirks in favor of dramedies about the excesses of the Bush years via The Big Short (2013) and Dick Cheney biopic Vice (2018), however Talladega Nights remains a well-aged and damning satire of that brief time when “NASCAR Dads” were a thing, which is all the more impressive since it was filmed in the midst of such jingoistic fervor.
So enters Will Ferrell in one of his signature roles as a NASCAR driver and the quintessential ugly American who’s boastful of his ignorance and proud that his two sons are named “Walker” and “Texas Ranger.” He’d be almost irredeemable if the movie wasn’t so quotable and endearing with its sketch comedy absurdities. There’s a reason Ferrell and co-star John C. Reilly became a recurring thing after this lunacy. Plus, that ending where adherents of the homophobic humor of the mid-2000s found out the joke was on them? Still pretty satisfying.
Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991)
July 1
This is the movie that changed everything. Filmmakers had been experimenting with computer-generated visual effects for years, including director James Cameron with 1989’s The Abyss. But Cameron, as usual, upped his game with this 1991 action/sci-fi epic in which the main character — the villain — was a hybrid of live-action actor and CG visuals.
Those of us who saw T2 in the theater when it first came out can remember hearing the audience (and probably ourselves) audibly gasp as the T-1000 (an underrated and chilling Robert Patrick) slithered into his liquid metal form, creating a surreal and genuinely eerie moving target that not even Arnold Schwarzenegger’s brute strength could easily defeat. There were moments in this movie that remained seared into our brains for years as high points of what could be accomplished with CG.

Aliens and Terminator 2: How James Cameron Crafts Perfect Sequels
By Ryan Lambie
This writer prefers T2 to the original Terminator. It’s fashionable to go the other way, but the first movie, while excellent, is essentially a low-budget horror film, Schwarzenegger’s T-800 a somewhat more formidable stand-in for the usual unstoppable slasher. The characters in T2 are far more fleshed out, the action bigger and more spectacular, the stakes more grave and palpable. It was the first movie to cost more than $100 million but it felt like every penny was right there on the screen. And Cameron tied up his story ingeniously, making all the sequels and prequels, and sidequels since irrelevant and incoherent. We don’t need them; we have Terminator 2: Judgment Day.
Underworld (2003)
July 1
Is Underworld a good movie? No, not really. Is it a scary movie, what with the vampires and werewolves? Not at all. Well, is it at least entertaining?! Absolutely. Never before has a B-studio actioner been so deliciously pretentious and delightful in its pomposity.
Every bit the product of early 2000s action movie clichés, right down to Kate Beckinsale’s oh-so tight leather number,  Underworld excels in part because of the casting of talent like Beckinsale. A former Oxford student and star of the West End stage, she got her start in cinema by appearing in a Kenneth Branagh Shakespeare adaptation, and she brings a wholly unneeded (but welcome) conviction to this tale of vampire versus werewolves in a centuries-long feud. Shamelessly riffing on Romeo and Juliet, the film ups the British thespian pedigree with movie-stealing performances by Bill Nighy as a vampire patriarch and Michael Sheen (Beckinsale’s then-husband who she met in a production of The Seagull) as an angsty, tragic werewolf. It’s bizarre, overdone, and highly entertaining in addition to all the fang on fur action.
Snowpiercer (2013)
July 2
Before there was Parasite, there was Snowpiercer, the action-driven class parable brought to horrific and mesmerizing life by Oscar-winning Korean director Bong Joon-ho in 2013. The film is set in a future ice age in which the last of humanity survives on a train that circumnavigates a post-climate change Earth. The story follows Chris Evans‘ Curtis as he leads a revolt from the working class caboose to the upper class engine at the front of the train.
Loosely based on a French graphic novel, filmed in the Czech Republic as a Korean-Czech co-production, and featuring some of Hollywood’s biggest stars, with dialogue in both English and Korean, Snowpiercer is not only a truly international production that will keep Western audiences guessing, but it packs an ever effective social critique as we head further into an age of climate change and wealth inequality. Also, there is a scene in which Chris Evans slips on a fish.
The Beguiled (2017)
July 16
Sofia Coppola’s remake of the 1971 film of the same name (both are based on a Thomas Cullinan novel) is a somewhat slight yet undeniably intriguing addition to the filmmaker’s catalog. It’s the story of a wounded Union soldier being taken in by a Southern school for girls–stranded in the middle of the American Civil War–with salvation turning into damnation as the power dynamics between the sexes are tested. It is also an evocative piece of Southern Gothic with an ending that will stick with you. Top notch work from a cast that also includes Nicole Kidman, Kirsten Dunst, Elle Fanning, and Colin Farrell makes this a bit of an underrated gem.
The Twilight Saga
July 16
In July, not one, not two, not three, not even four, but all five of the movies adapted from Stephenie Meyer’s young adult phenomenon book series will be accessible on Netflix. Indulge in the nostalgia of Catherine Hardwicke’s faithful and comparatively intimate Twilight. Travel to Italy with a depressing Edward and Bella in New Moon. Lean into the horror absurdity of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn: Part 2. Or marathon all five for maximal escapism into a world where vegetarian vampires are the boyfriend ideal, the sun is always clouded, and the truly iconic emo-pop tunes never stop.
Django Unchained (2012)
July 24
The second film Quentin Tarantino won an Oscar for, Django Unchained remains a highly potent revenge fantasy where a Black former slave (Jamie Foxx) seeks to free his wife from Mississippian bondage and ends up wiping out the entire infrastructure of a plantation in the process. Brutal, dazzlingly verbose in dialogue, and highly triggering in every meaning of the word—including quickdraw shootouts—this is a Southern-fried Spaghetti Western at its finest.

While Waltz won a deserved Oscar for the film (his second from a Tarantino joint), it is Jackson’s turn as a house slave who becomes by far the most dangerous and cruel of Django’s adversaries who lingers in the memory years later…

Will Ferrell's 10 Best Movies, According To Rotten Tomatoes
Will Ferrell’s last few movies have been panned by critics and some of them have bombed at the box office, because his edge is gone. He used to make absurdist R-rated gems, but now, he’s making family-friendly movies that rely on the same cheap gags. It can be easy to forget just how great his movies used to be.
RELATED: 10 Most Hilarious Will Ferrell Characters, Ranked
This is the man who gave us Ron Burgundy, Ricky Bobby, and Chazz Reinhold. Naturally, his critical reception has been up and down, reaching heights of acclaim and lows of disdain. So, here are Will Ferrell’s 10 Best Movies, According To Rotten Tomatoes.
10 Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby (71%)
Tumblr media
Director Adam McKay and his star Will Ferrell followed up their cult hit Anchorman, a zany tale about newscasters, with Talladega Nights, a zany tale about NASCAR drivers. As with any successful sophomore effort, Talladega Nights managed to satisfy fans of Anchorman by being bigger – with a denser plot and a wider scope – yet just as funny.
At its heart, it’s the story of a patriotic American driver getting threatened by the arrival of a hotshot French driver, but along the way, he loses his family, his home, his best friend, his career, and his dignity. Of course, by the end, he emerges from the ashes of his life triumphantly as a new man who understands what’s important in life.
9 TIE: Stranger Than Fiction (72%)
Tumblr media
The unusual premise of this fantasy comedy is executed brilliantly by the movie. It stars Will Ferrell as a tax inspector who begins to hear Emma Thompson’s voice narrating all of his actions and he realizes he’s a fictional character in a novel.
The parallel storylines of Ferrell in the narrative breaking off on his own and living his own life and Thompson as the author in the real world, writing a story about a character who has become independent, are fascinating. Stranger Than Fiction isn’t a perfect movie, but it blends comedy and drama wonderfully and it’s an uncharacteristically thoughtful and sensitive movie from Ferrell.
8 TIE: Megamind (72%)
Tumblr media
For a kids’ animated movie, Megamind has a pretty dark premise. It’s about a supervillain named Megamind who always threatens to kill a superhero named Metro Man and always fails, because Metro Man always manages to foil his evil plans in time. However, one night, he actually succeeds in killing Metro Man.
RELATED: The 10 Best DreamWorks Animated Movies Of All Time, According To IMDB
At first, he’s happy, because it means he’s free to do whatever he wants. But without a challenger, he finds that his life has become pretty boring. The plot thickens when it turns out Metro Man is really alive and wanted an excuse to give up his career as a superhero.
7 Everything Must Go (73%)
Tumblr media
This little-seen, underrated gem stars Will Ferrell as a man who sits out on his front lawn and sells all of his belongings when his wife leaves him. It was adapted from a short story by Raymond Carver called “Why Don’t You Dance?” and, unlike other Ferrell movies, he plays a character whose flaws, like alcoholism and selfishness, aren’t played for laughs, but are instead explored in a serious way.
Rebecca Hall and Michael Peña provide great performances in supporting roles, but this is clearly Ferrell’s movie. Without his lead performance, the movie wouldn’t have worked anywhere near as well.
6 TIE: Wedding Crashers (75%)
Tumblr media
Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn are the real stars of Wedding Crashers, one of the box office hits that gave way to the R-rated comedy craze of the 2000s, and Will Ferrell just makes a cameo appearance as Chazz Reinhold. Still, he steals every scene he’s in, delivering lines like “Ma! The meatloaf! F***!” with such intense gusto that they’re hilarious on every viewing.
Chazz is a weird dude – he doesn’t just crash weddings; he crashes funerals, too. On the whole, Wedding Crashers is a consistently funny romantic comedy that has strong character and narrative development, but it simply wouldn’t be as good without Ferrell’s appearance.
5 TIE: Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues (75%)

No sequel to a cult favorite like Anchorman can ever hope to live up to the original, so it’s astounding that Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues managed to satisfy most fans of the original. It even has a higher Rotten Tomatoes score than the first one.
The sequel switches the setting from San Diego in the ‘70s to New York in the ‘80s, focuses on the dawn of the 24-hour cable news network, and most importantly, features all four main characters back in fine form. The plot is denser this time around, too, with a wider scope and a tighter structure. Heck, maybe the sequel is better.
4 The Other Guys (78%)
Tumblr media
This parody of the buddy cop genre paired up Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg on the screen for the first time. When Adam McKay had dinner with the two actors and realized they’d make a great on-screen duo, he emailed his producer with the idea of casting them together, using a cop movie as an off-the-cuff example.
However, the producer loved that off-the-cuff example so much that the movie went straight into development. The result feels much more inspired than that anecdote would suggest, with a sharp commentary on the banking crisis running underneath all the big-budget action and absurdist comedy.
3 Elf (83%)
Tumblr media
This one obviously needs no explanation. Elf is one of the funniest Christmas movies ever made. Every year, moviegoers are treated to a barrage of holiday-themed movies hoping to become a staple of every family’s yuletide celebrations, and since that’s a big commitment to make, very few movies manage it. But with its heartwarming message, engaging plot, and most importantly, timeless gags, Elf is one of those few.
Will Ferrell has said that while he was making it, “there were moments” where he thought “that one about the elf” would end his career. In the end, it had the exact opposite effect!
2 The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part (85%)
Tumblr media
Who would’ve thought that the two best-reviewed films of Will Ferrell’s career would be seemingly cash-grabbing big-screen adaptations of toys? The sequel, released earlier this year, didn’t do as well at the box office as its predecessor, but it was almost as good. No critic could quite put their finger on what made The Second Part a slightly inferior sequel.
It had all the humor and heart of the original; it just didn’t quite feel as fresh. It recaptured most of the magic of the original, just not all of it. But that’s a stupid gripe from people expecting too much. It’s a wonderful movie.
1 The LEGO Movie (96%)
Tumblr media
There weren’t many people who expected the film adaptation of LEGO toys to be any good. However, it ended up being a Pixar-level animated delight that could be enjoyed by kids and adults alike. What helps to make it more than just a wacky, slickly rendered big-screen adventure and genuinely a modern classic is its big twist that the plot is taking place in a child’s imagination – and the villain is his father.
This is when Will Ferrell appears in live-action. Not only is he the cartoon villain President Business; he’s the kid’s dad who wants to glue all his LEGO into place. The LEGO Movie encourages kids to be imaginative, and for that reason, it’s more than just a movie.

John Shaft Movie Co-Star The 1971 Chevrolet Chevelle SS
By Dave Ashton
The movie franchise Shaft started back in 1971 with 4 films and a TV series lasting up to 1974. A version was then produced in 2000 as essentially a reboot of the ’71 film. Now John Shaft II is back in a 2019 movie with an unlikely co-star. There’s now three generations to the Shaft family – the original legend Richard Roundtree, Shaft junior played by Jessie T. Usher and Shaft II played by the only person who could fit the part, Samuel L. Jackson.
However, this post isn’t about the plot, a review or such, but the fine 1971 Chevy Chevelle SS which acts as the unlikely co-star of the movie. Initially, I would have thought a 1970 Chevelle SS would have been a better option, but ’71 was the release of the first movie, so that choice makes sense.

As with all movie vehicles, there’s not just one car in use, but several copies for different roles and jobs. In this case four 1971 Chevelles in dark silver ‘picture cars’ were prepared by Stephen Austin and his team from Atlanta, who had previously worked on films such as The Walking Dead and Zombieland. The four Chevelles all had to look identical with two being for close-up shots and the other two for stunt work, thus being smashed to oblivion.
According to popular mechanics.com, three of the cars kept their 454 big block V8 engines, with one of the vehicles having a smaller engine fitted for regular driving. A third brake pedal was also added to the stunt cars to help with aggressive maneuvering. The carbs. were also kept in place on the engines, rather than upgrading to fuel injectors. Two additional cars were also sourced and wrecked to test what the Chevelles could handle and what they were capable of during stunt work.
Austin, a huge car enthusiasts himself, is well aware that some of these classic muscle cars are going to be wrecked during shooting. It’s not complete wanton destruction as scenes are usually worked backwards, starting with the final wrecked vehicles where they source the rustiest models available. Once crashed, you can’t replace these things.
Other Chevy Chevelles in the movies Even the most casual movie viewer may spot a Chevelle on screen and think they have seen one of those things before. plenty of first-generation (1964–1967) and second-generation (1968–1972) Chevelles have been used and abused over the years for our visual entertainment. In no particular order, here are Chevelles from some of the most standout TV shows and movies.
1966 Chevrolet Chevelle SS in 1967 ‘Teenage Mother.’ A 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle SS in the 2006 ‘Cars on Route 66.’ 1967 Chevrolet Chevelle SS in ‘1966-1973 Mission: Impossible.’ 1968 Chevrolet Chevelle SS in 1968 ‘Bullitt.’ 1968 Chevrolet Chevelle SS in 1974-1980 ‘The Rockford Files.’ 1968 Chevrolet Chevelle SS in 2007-2015 ‘Mad Men.’ 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS in 2014-2019 ‘The Flash.’ 1970 four-speed Chevelle SS in 2012 ‘Jack Reacher.’ 1971 Chevelle SS in 2010 ‘The Other Guys.’ 1970 Chevelle SS Convertible in 2003 ‘Charlies Angles: Full Throttle.’ 1972 Chevelle SS in 2010 ‘Percy Jackson & The Olympians: Lightning Thief.’ 1969 Chevelle SS in 2007 ‘War.’ 1969 Chevelle Malibu in 2006 ‘Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby.’ 1971 Chevelle SS 454 in 2011 ‘Drive Angry 3D.’ 1970 Chevy Chevelle SS 454 in 1993 ‘Dazed and Confused.’ 1970 Chevy Chevelle SS 454 in 2009 ‘Fast and Furious.’ 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS in 2017 ‘John Wick: Chapter 2.’ 1973 Chevrolet Chevelle in ‘Drive’
