(Un)fortunately it all comes to a head when Spider-Man and Deadpool team-up on their own, and Deadpool gets dosed with something. If it doesn’t kill them, it just might make them stronger, at least when it comes to their relationship.

Peter turned to see the customer who was actively stealing his room. The guy was tattooed from head to toe, not an inch of skin to be seen between the riot of colors. There was no hair anywhere either, including his eyebrows which had been replaced with graffiti letters that Peter couldn’t read. In between the jarring jumble of tattoos were an array of piercings, sparkling bright from the overhead chandelier of the front lobby.
The guy smirked at Peter’s sudden silence. “What’s wrong?” he asked. “Enraptured by my beauty?”
Peter narrowed his eyes. He wasn’t about to be bullied out of a place to sleep. He whipped around to face the receptionist. “I have my company’s credit card and my own to use as backup.”
“You think I can’t pay?” Mr. Tattoo replied, offended.
“I put a hold on a room!” Peter was struggling and failing to maintain anything resembling a polite tone. His back was aching, he desperately wanted a shower, and he couldn’t even math long enough to figure out when he last slept. He tossed a glare to his room rival. “I have cash on me.”
“Are you bribing her?” Mr. Tattoo asked, sounding more amused than upset.
“Shut up,” Peter bit out. “You’re not stealing my room.”
“You mean my room.”
“I’ll fight you.”
Mr. Tattoo laughed. “You’re spunky. I like that.”
The receptionist turned a professional smile to no one in particular. “The room has two queen beds.”
The floor tilted under Peter’s weary feet. “You want me to share a room with him?” Peter flailed his hand at Mr. Tattoo’s, well, everything.
“Aw, already getting cold feet?” the man in question teased. “But we haven’t even arrived at our honeymoon destination.”
Peter was going to rip that snake bite right out of the guy’s lip.

Given how much information Wade dumped on him in the email, Peter is still a bit shocked when he opens the door and finds himself face to back-of-the-head with an infant strapped in a papoose against a broad chest. Said broad chest is straining against being contained within a Spider-Man t-shirt that may or may not be one size too small. Peter stares at a bald and small and so very squishy head, and tries very hard to remember if Wade mentioned anything about a BABY.
And then he looks up, and up, and WOW.
Scarring? Yes. Cheekbones to die for? Absolutely. A jaw that slays? Definitely. Blue eyes with a twinkle of mischief? GOD yes.
If Peter isn’t already blushing, then he will be in a moment.
“H-hi.” Aw crap, his voice cracked. He clears his throat and tries again. “Hi. You must be… Wade?”
“Actually, the baby is Wade. I’m Ellie. Nice t’meet’cha, Pete.” Wade’s voice sounds like he’s smoked a pack of cigarettes a day since the day he was born. It’s rough and deep, and Peter is DEFINITELY blushing now.

The man turns to face Peter, his lips parting in surprise. He visibly relaxes, looking lost among the display. “Oh god yes please, I have no idea what I’m looking for, just that none of these seem right.”
This close Peter understands why the man is so covered up since every inch of the small amount of skin visible is scared. Peter can only assume the rest of him is that way, and he hates to think about what could have happened to cause such a thing. It should probably make Peter uncomfortable to look at but all he can think about is how tough the alpha must be to have survived whatever it was.
Peter’s dealt with enough folk that are rotten on the inside that dealing with someone pleasant but with an unconventional look is almost refreshing. What other alpha bothers to say please? Peter offers up a gentle smile. “Well, you want to start by choosing a base model and then we can equip them with anything you want depending on your price range. So really to start you just need to pick out the one you find most attractive.”
The man nods along, glancing back at the dolls every few seconds. “And this is everything you’ve got?”
“Well—” Peter hesitates before continuing— “I do have a few others that aren’t on the floor.”

Wade approached the table with a cheese grater in hand. “Would you like more cheese?”
Their waiter had already taken care of this when their food first showed up, as was standard for an Olive Garden. Wade stood quietly with clear expectation on his face though, waiting to be answered one way or the other. Harry was clearly trying to put the words together to politely inform him that he wasn’t needed, but then MJ spoke up first.
“You know what? Yes.”
Her voice was very firm, except Wade didn’t seem to notice. Permission granted, he went right to Peter’s plate and started grating. Peter wasn’t looking at his food or the cheese to know when to stop, however. He was staring right back at Wade, eyes locked and mind lost. He was clearly not going to tell Wade to stop. Ever.
Harry’s voice was flat, somewhere to Peter’s right. “He didn’t say yes.”
But Wade just kept grating until Peter had a large enough mountain of cheese that it toppled over and Peter startled at the movement in his peripheral. Spell broken, Wade finally stopped grating.
MJ took the opportunity to slide her plate closer to Wade, as if she really still thought cheese might be happening. Wade didn’t seem to see it. He winked at Peter, flipped the cheese grater around in his hands, and left.
“Worth a shot,” MJ shrugged after he’d disappeared back into the kitchen. She turned to Peter instead and pushed her plate over to him. “Can I have some of yours?”

Spider-Man snorts. “You want me to believe that Deadpool, an actual Angel of Death, walks around New York City in a red and black onesie and labels things as dick moves.”
“Ooh, Angel of Death,” Wade says. He’s familiar with that term, but it still sounds fucking rad, no matter how many times he hears it. “Not the Grim Reaper?”
Spider-Man shrugs. “Like I said, I looked you up. The Grim Reaper carries a scythe. Not katanas.”
Wade grins under his mask. Spidey’s observant. More than that, though, he’s clever. Good. It would be a shame if the only person Wade could talk to was a dullard.
“So tell me, then,” Wade says, curious, “what do you know about Deadpool?”
“The same stuff everyone knows,” Spider-Man replies. “He shows up when people are about to die and helps them pass on. He’s… I mean, he’s a legend. There are a thousand stories about him, but none of them say much. Probably because whoever wrote things down about him died before they could say much. Or, that’s what I would guess, if he were actually real.”
Spider-Man’s a spitfire, isn’t he? Wade’s so pleased, he would squeal if he didn’t think it’d ruin his shot at friendship. “Ouch, Spidey. You keep talking like that, you’re going to hurt my feelings. What makes you so sure I’m not real?”
“I’m a scientist,” Spider-Man says, shaking his head. “I believe in things I can prove. You’re real, but that doesn’t mean you’re Deadpool. If anything, it means you’re not him.”

Summary: Peter can easily admit that he’s struggling—at least to himself. He’s juggling two jobs that don’t quite cover his bills and trying to write his PhD dissertation, all the while keeping up his patrols as Spider-Man and grappling with the trauma of Gwen’s death. His only solace is the friends-with-benefits relationship that he has going on with Wade, but given the way Wade has been looking at him lately, he feels he might be in over his head there as well. It’s really not the best time for a serial killer to terrorize New York’s underworld, but when did villains ever work according to Peter’s schedule?
a.k.a. The one in which Peter’s life unravels, people try to help and Wade just tries not to get his heart broken.

Peter felt heat press against his eyes, his vision blurring a little. “I wanted to,” he whispered. “I wanted to be with you. I didn’t wanna make you feel like it meant nothing.”
Wade closed the first aid kit. “You don’t need to talk about that now, baby boy. You’re high as a kite.”
“I hurt you,” Peter insisted. “Didn’t I?”
Wade heaved a deep sigh and focused on him. “You didn’t mean to.”
Peter ducked his head. “I just … I was scared.”
“Scared?”
“Of losing you.”
Wade shrugged. “We both knew what we were getting into. It’s not your fault that I caught feelings.”
Peter shook his head. That wasn’t what he’d meant at all. Wade shouldn’t feel guilty, shouldn’t feel like he’d failed in some way when Peter was the problem.
He wanted to tell Wade that he missed him. His warmth and smell and weight against him.
And he didn’t understand why he hadn’t been able to see it before. That he hadn’t been able to say so.
It seemed obvious now.
So easy to twist his hand into Wade’s collar and pull him in for a kiss. It was just a brush of their lips, but he quickly followed it up by yanking Wade closer until he lost his balance and fell against Peter, his hands pressing against the wall on either side of Peter’s head to avoid crushing him too much. Peter’s lips found Wade’s again easily but Wade hummed and shook his head, one of his hands pressing against Peter’s sternum, putting a bit of distance between them. “Nope,” he said. “We’re not doing this. For my sanity, but also because you’ll regret this in the morning.”
